I've been listening to the police scanner. They stopped calling out cleared stores. Sounds like the mall has been fully cleared. No one in custody.

Appreciate the update, that “no one in custody” part is doing all the disturbing. Wild that scanner apps are how we track public safety now. People near there, maybe stick to home tonight if you can.

5 people are now in custody as of 20 minutes ago. Also a 17 year old died from injuries.

I married someone who grew up in the country. A LOT of people listen to the police scanners because they don't have anything better to do.

I live in rural Alabama, and my grandmother still listens to the fire dept/ambulance scanner. She’ll hear it start talking and will mute the tv just to hear it. Heck, she used to always drink her coffee in the kitchen, beside the scanner in the window so she could be nosy 😂

When we were robbed neighbours started calling to ask what was stolen before the police showed up

lol, giving me memories of my stepdad (in very rural Oregon) spending his evenings staring out our window while the scanner just yapped about trespassing and kitchen fires.

Same here in small town southern Virginia. The nosiness is off the scale, lol.

Not to project my OCD on others but sometimes I wonder if this disorder is seriously underdiagnosed in America lol. I read this comment and thought, oh no, another compulsion I need to avoid 😂

Not just America. I'm from the UK and found my way onto online scanner listening during the Boston Marathon bombing manhunt, then settled on listening to the FDNY dispatch radio religiously for years! It got me learning a lot about the city and it was a big part of why I eventually decided to visit New York a couple of years later (to visit some of the places and landmarks I had heard mentioned, and to see the FDNY in action and not just as voices on the radio). It's not just locals that are interested in listening in!

Can confirm. It's one of the ways I figured out rural crime tends to get swept under the rug and not reported.

secret_squirrels_nut 1 day ago +2
i live in a city where the police now scramble their traffic so nothing can be heard on police scanners. we have shootings all the time. they did it so the news can’t report on it. now all we get is a news article with basically no facts information. the only follow up we get is when someone, if they catch them finally appears in court. they say they scramble the traffic for safety, but it’s just to keep news from reporting, and so we don’t scare away tourists.

Not for long, police are moving towards encrypted radio. Enjoy while the window into public safety lasts.

Poverty, lots of crime, lax gun laws, lots of guns, republican leaders that don’t give a shit about any of the aforementioned. Recipe for disaster.

The guy who killed his children was already prohibited from possessing weapons due to a 2019 arrest where he shot at someone in the vicinity of a school. He obtained his new guns illegally. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Shreveport_shooting

What's happening is what's happening all the time in this country - mass shootings in public spaces. They just barely make the news anymore because theyre so common.
17
Secure_Fly_444 1 day ago +7
What do you mean these incidents barely make the news? The news everywhere is literally covering this. I mean we are talking about it right now.
7
dandelionelic 1 day ago +6
There have been 145 mass shootings in the US in 2026. How many have you heard about?

6
BigGayGinger4 18 hr ago +1
both private confrontations. to be perfectly Frank, there is a massive difference between a private domestic dispute and a completely random untargeted act, and the headlines on these f****** articles are trash. Yes, it's tragic that people shoot each other to death and innocent victims get caught up in the middle.  it's a next level type of societal anxiety when it's random teenagers doing random untargeted killings. this is not that, but there are comments in this topic that would have you believe that there have been two  shootings in Louisiana this month that were just crack pot psychopaths losing their minds with an AR-15 because society is crumbling

Guns are the only thing that ties all shootings together. Other countries get it and either ban or have realistic heavy restrictions.

This is really sad. In the past 3 days this is like… the third incident. A few days ago there was a domestic incident and a man murdered 8 children and shot 2 women. Yesterday or two days ago a man was just arrested for planning a mass shooting at French Quarter fest… I love my home so much I hate seeing it like this 💔💔I feel like things have only gotten worse since the bourbon street attack and that really disturbs me.

IT's interesting you mention the past 3 days. The anniversary of Columbine was 3 days ago. I'm reading the book Columbine by Dave Cullen. Looks like one of the long term affects of the mass shooting at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999 is the inspiration it had for other attacks and really is seen as kicking of the mass/school shooting epidemic.

NeitherMidnight624 1 day ago +27
Probably two groups fighting and got into a shoot out
27
TortieTactics 1 day ago +2
but, still at large. how is that not a public threat? eg, those two groups fled... they have beef, they will see each other again, who knows where
2
incognitomus 1 day ago +2
If it's just gang related they would lay low for awhile because they don't want to get caught. Someone going on a killing spree wouldn't cause they'd expect to die from cops anyway.
2
TortieTactics 1 day ago +1
it's not about if it was a killing spree or gang members fighting... there were _more than one_ individuals willing to wrecklessly discharge firearms in a public space and they're whereabouts are currently unknown imo, very irresponsible. "suspects are possible gang members and still at large' is a less exciting thing to have to tweet, but it is what it is. no public threat means you wont gave to worry about them running into each other _at all_ in a public space

It does feel odd to call this a mass shooting, given that most people associate it with deliberate mass killing attempt against innocent people vs a shooting incident where lots of people are shot. I don't know if it's keeping up a narrative though. I think it's just an attempt to get more clicks/money. People won't care as much about "gang violence" as they will a "mass shooting".

Did they use a knife? Or was it one of the times someone used a gun to shoot a bunch of people? I'm starting to think all these guns may pose some sort of danger to people. Nah, we would have done something by now if that was the issue.
