It also depends on your reasoning. If you dislike Israel because the IDF keeps being reckless and cruel and their government is acting like dictators that’s not antisemitism. If you hate Israel because they exist as a state that’s annexing their neighbors and terrorizing the West Bank that’s not antisemitism. If you hate Israel because “all the Jews are just European colonizers” that’s antisemitism and very incorrect.

The term antisemitism specifically only refers to jew hate because in the late 1800s the German word "Judenhass (Jewhate)" was deemed not scientific enough. Thus the term Antisemitism was brought into use. It has always and only ever meant Jew Hate. I am really weary of when people say things like "there are other semites", because the term really only ever comes up in reference to language or when someone is specifically disputing the meaning of the word antisemitism.

Depends on where they stop. If they take the Litani then that's 10% but the evacuation orders extend out to the Zahrani, which would be about 15% or so. Although to secure the Zahrani properly they'd need another 10% to cover the flank. So yes, Israel's maximalist objectives in Lebanon are about 35% of the country, if they decide to go for everything they've indicated that they want.

It seems like the UN is just stationed there to prevent NON WESTERN NATIONS from conducting military ops. If israel kills UN soldiers or workers there is nothing that will happen. If Iran or Hezbolla kills UN personnel this is on every news station and used as a justification for ramping up violence. So they basically only prevent violence from one side.

The CBC shouldn't just make up the answer because they figure they can guess pretty well, or because they think that Israel is most responsible for the broader geopolitical situation. People who have problems with trends in Israel's behaviour have years and years of reporting to look at, they don't need new statements made up on March 30th, 2026. Do you have an actual problem with this specific reporting, or is it just some kind of pattern-matching thing where you think that reporting about Israel is bad in general, so may as well accuse every outlet/article?

There are [plenty of European countries](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Interim_Force_in_Lebanon#Contributing_countries) providing troops to UNIFIL, in fact 4 of the largest 10 contributors are European. Irish and French peacekeepers have suffered the most human losses since the inception of UNIFIL. Indonesia is the largest troop contributor (by 1 personnel), not sure why you'd assume Europeans don't take part in the mission.

FYI the officer in charge of the French contingent and his driver were held at gunpoint by Tsahal ssoldiers just after they killed the 3 indonesian blue helmets. And they shot a French convoy. UNIFIL should retaliate at some point, this is pitiful.

The UN is the biggest waste of time, money and energy. They neither stop, nor contribute to the cessation of hostilities in any war and most of the time, they get in the way and end up being shit or blown up! They're not an Army, they are army personnel acting in an observer's role only. They will not and cannot engage anyone attacking them, so they're basically just there to report who blew up what, if they're being shot at, they report who shot at them! They're basically football referees, but with no whistle, no red cards and no sanctioning power!

Yes, essentially. They're there as independent witnesses, and to enable successful prosecution at any future war trial. It's actually a very important job that they do however, it frustrates me that when they can help save lives, they stand back and do nothing! The people from the Red Cross and Red Crescent are the ones that go into these war zones, put themselves in danger, but actually save lives. I have so much respect for these people, as they're the true heroes.

This is the problem. If they were peace keepers, then I would be all for it. They would be useful and serve a vital and valid role. The problem is that they do nothing other than log what they see. They don't protect anyone and they don't provide solutions or mediation! Nothing! As for who blew them up, I'm sure that it will all become clear at some point however I've known times when the UN soldiers have been taken out by both sides and particularly if they wander into a location that is particularly sensitive or they see something that one side didn't want them to see! I have friends who served time with the UN and they actually have much less favourable things to say about the organisation!
