"Mr Smith goes the the wrong Washington which is almost 3000 miles from the state"

Lemesplain Apr 2, 2026 +12
Maybe he’s secretly advocating DC statehood.

kaidenka Apr 2, 2026 +11
Kansas City is in Missouri. I don’t know if the ones with people’s names should really count either.
11
jimbobdonut Apr 2, 2026 +13
There is also a Kansas City, Kansas.
13
FX114 Apr 2, 2026 +5
That's not the one in the movie, though.

steveofthejungle Apr 2, 2026 +6
Indiana Jones doesn’t live in Indiana

ManufacturerBest2758 Apr 2, 2026 +6
We named the dog Indiana!

skunkman62 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I guess it just has to have the name of the state in the title. Come on, Hannah Montana.

Travelgrrl Apr 2, 2026 +20
Blue Hawaii (1961), featuring Elvis spanking a teenager, surely is the one.

Slight_Mousse5643 Apr 2, 2026 +7
Wait, Blue Hawaii is way better than Hard Ticket to Hawaii for representing the state. That Elvis flick actually takes place there and has the whole Hawaiian vibe throughout, while Hard Ticket feels more like a generic action movie that just happens to be set there. Plus Blue Hawaii is actually watchable without needing several drinks first OP's list is pretty solid overall though, some deep cuts in there I haven't seen. Three Billboards for Missouri is a great pick - that movie really captured small town America perfectly. Also props for going with the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre instead of something more obvious like Giant or Urban Cowboy

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop Apr 2, 2026 +14
I think OP was just going by titles with the state name in them and not an actual title that gives the vibes of the state. As an example, #26 they have Hannah Montana for Montana and #14 Indiana Jones for Indiana even though neither of those films have anything to do with the state, lol

Travelgrrl Apr 2, 2026 +3
It is better, that's why I suggested it.

tetoffens Apr 2, 2026 +6
FYI, Looking For Alaska is a show, not a film.
6
MeaninglessGuy Apr 2, 2026 +9
Mystery, Alaska. Boom, there ya go.
9
asl052 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Or.....Alaska (1996)
1
vaisatriani Apr 2, 2026 +6
I'd swap out MYSTERY, ALASKA.

ahorrribledrummer Apr 2, 2026 +4
Never heard of Iowa 2005. Looks to be a real stinker.

Vikingboy9 Apr 2, 2026 -3
Should have been Bridges of Madison County! Or Music Man.

DamonLazer Apr 2, 2026 +6
“We named the dog Indiana.”
6
vaisatriani Apr 2, 2026 +1
'Got a lot of fond memories of that dog.'

Happy_Nihilist_ Apr 2, 2026 +13
Are we counting #47 as Washington state or DC?
13
AlstottsNeckGuard Apr 2, 2026 +11
It's supposed to be for the state and technically it serves OP's purpose of NAMING every state through movie titles.
11
SereneDreams03 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Yeah, it fits in their framework, but as a Washingtonian, I found it annoying that they used a movie about DC for my state. Then again, just looking at imdb, I can't find a movie with Washington in the title that is about the state.
6
AlstottsNeckGuard Apr 2, 2026 +2
I honestly don't think one exists, because of exactly this issue. People hear Washington and 7/10 of them think about DC first
2
SereneDreams03 Apr 2, 2026 +5
Yeah, it's ironic that Congress rejected the original name that residents here had picked for the state "Columbia," because they thought people would confuse it with the District of Columbia. Then they went and named us Washington instead.
5
SPEK2120 Apr 2, 2026 +2
tbf, that may have made things even more confusing with it also bordering British Columbia.
2
Ready_Corgi462 Apr 2, 2026 +2
I was wondering if it was a similar situation for Kansas. It’s a movie titled Kansas City, and I would think it is most likely a movie about Kansas City, Missouri and not Kansas City, Kansas. Never saw the movie though so can’t say.
2
runhome24 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I think it'd be fine if the "Washington" in the film title is referring to the (or a) person. So, if [Wikipedia's Films about George Washington category](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Films_about_George_Washington) is anything to go by, there's just one option: [*Young Washington*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Washington)

horsenbuggy Apr 2, 2026 +1
As someone from Georgia, our movie is not set and was not filmed in Georgia. It's the name of a character. So, get in line.

itsathrowawayduhhhhh Apr 2, 2026 +4
I love Georgia Rule! That’s all. Lol

Plenty_Firefighter40 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Never heard of "California Split" but Altman directed and Segal/ Gould starring? I'm game.

Diello2001 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Would Kalifornia count?
4
mdmnl Apr 2, 2026 +5
It would Kount

Thancs.

It’s really good. If you like gambling movies/buddy movies, you’ll love it.

HoodsBreath10 Apr 2, 2026 +1
I know South Carolina would be virtually impossible

geddy76 Apr 2, 2026 +1
Way to represent, Maryland. At least Oklahoma put an exclamation mark in their’s… and Nebraska has Bruce Dern.

RedditWhileImWorking Apr 2, 2026 +1
"Kansas" (1998) would be better for Kansas since Kansas City is mostly in Missouri and this sticks out for those who know.

Honorable Mention: DC Cab (1983)

TrevorDangler Apr 3, 2026 +1
American Movie is the far superior Wisconsin movie. It even came out the same year.
1
FlinFlonDandy Apr 3, 2026 +1
I've put movies that have the name of the state in the movie title.
1
Ok-Entertainer-6290 Apr 2, 2026
Kansas City is Missouri, still need a Kansas one
0
veronicamae2 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Kansas City is in both Kansas and Missouri.

Big miss on what OP is doing - he's listing every state by using a movie title that contains the state name, not picking movies to represent each state.

t_huddleston Apr 2, 2026 -10
Can we switch Mississippi Burning for O Brother Where Art Thou please
-10
horsenbuggy Apr 2, 2026 -7
Georgia Rule has nothing to do with the state of Georgia. Georgia is the name of a character. This list is poorly constructed.
-7
FlinFlonDandy Apr 2, 2026 +6
I think you've misunderstood. I was just putting films that have the name of the States in the film title.
6
horsenbuggy Apr 2, 2026 -7
I think you've misunderstood that it's not the name of the state, it's the name of the character.
-7
FlinFlonDandy Apr 2, 2026 +6
Hannah Montana, Indiana Jones, Virginia Wolf? Are you okay. I've just put films that have the state name in the film. It's not literal. How are you not understanding?
6
Ready_Corgi462 Apr 2, 2026 +5
People are really struggling with this prompt for some reason lmao
