It's been over a year, month after month after month, it's always something new, no one has talked about tariffs, how it's making things expensive, essentially a tax for the poor, the H1B visa, the DOGE, how it's supposed to reduce cost, but now he's funding a war, how the tariff has made it expensive for manufacturers to manufacture materials in the US, the WHO withdrawal and many more.

Then the US tourism industry wonders why us Canadians refuse to go down there for almost any leisure/vacation means and are suffering from it, we were by far the largest volume of foreign tourism for decades and now there's articles and mayors of attraction cities from California to Nevada, Washington, Vermont, Florida etc pleading for us to come back.
Damage is done, even I used to get sent for work and would visit the US often personally for vacation, at least once a year even during the orange psychopath's first term but absolutely not now, when a mother and a 7 year old child (besides many more already randomly detained before this) get locked up under this administration for absolutely no reason other than quotas.

Many Canadians (and I'm speaking for myself here) will go further in assigning blame. I blame every single one of you americans. Yes, the trump voters and the non-voters are the obvious ones. But Democrats in congress entirely failed at their job during Biden's term - if someone tries to end democracy in your country (like, say, by throwing a f****** coup), you absolutely do NOT allow them to participate in democracy in your country. But, like cowards, they f****** allowed it. So I blame congressional democrats, too. And, the democratic voters ALLOWED it, and didn't hold their representatives to task - if they had, maybe things would be different.
You guys like to rag on the french a lot - but the french know how to deal with despotic leaders, and it isn't by allowing them to steamroll your entire country. Hell, the french will bring entire cities to their knees for literally any reason - I went to Paris about 10 years ago, and there was a taxi protest that shut the city down. Be like the french.

In 2015 a rightwing president was elected making meritocracy the justification for the “change”. Chevrolet made commercials about their cars being expensive saying they were “exclusive” and were only for those who merit them… sales plunged as that was very unpopular and the commercials stopped overnight.
It was one of the few instances were the boycotting was swift and instantly noticed, it was also effective, this shows that measures against big companies DO work and the fact that there was a boycott without any coordination is also possible.

And if being a stepfather rather than a bio father is the problem, it seems like the Canadian consulate could help facilitate getting the child to her grandmother in Canada.

I'm not agreeing with the situation but just explaining it - the child is a Canadian citizen and her visa is likely also being shown as "having an issue", like her mother's. The claim is that the child does not have the legal right to be in the US. Again, I disagree with jailing children - in this case, the State is saying they can't release the child to stepfather (citizen) as the child does not have appropriate status.
All that to say, this is a fucked up situation

I fully agree. It's monstrous keeping the child incarcerated if there is a way. That said, given these immigration issues, would the child be able to return to the US after, if she is separated from her mom now? She's been living with her stepdad since age 2, so only likely really knows her stepfather as dad. If she goes back to Canada, and can't get a new visa back to the US, that can also be very difficult for the child too.
It's a complicated and fucked up situation that is occurring because of shitty (and evil) politics.

Not for an admin that views basic human rights as unnecessary and "woke", it isn't. Cells half the size of your bathroom made from chicken wire in the gutted interior of a former Sears and a small bowl of thin oatmeal a day are surprisingly c****. Even cheaper if you're not concerned with "woke" amenities like working plumbing and the occasional access to a doctor.
>The only reason they are keeping her is to to molest her.
Or to traffic her to the rest of the Epstein class. Just because their favorite child brothel was shut down doesn't mean they suddenly stopped being predators who buy and trade kids as sex toys just as readily as people do MTG cards.

Immigration agents are stopping people with irregular visas that want to leave the US and putting them in cages.
For example, a French guy learned by his employer that his work visa didn't get renewed and he was now an illegal. He drove to the Canadian border to leave the US, explained the situation to border agents and got sent to ICE detention for weeks.

Not only that, the step father might not be a legal guardian for the child. For example at the airport, they would not let the child travel with the step father without permission from probably both legal guardians. If you are a mother, you still need a note from the father. A lot of step parents do not legally adopt the step children.

My SO lives in the states. We are planning another overseas trip. Last time I flew to his city so we could fly out together. This time he said "I do not want you crossing the border into this shithole!" We're making alternate travel plans.

It’s not a joke. DO NOT COME HERE. You are NOT SAFE visiting the US. There is no reason to come to this unsafe environment until it’s safe again. DO NOT VISIT, CHANGE YOUR VACATION PLANS and DO NOT CROSS ANY BORDERS OR FLY IN OR OUT.
You are NOT SAFE in the US. WE are not safe here. You might as well be going back in time to 1940s during Nazi Germany but SO MUCH WORSE, because they are doing this out of greed and stupidity.
Just fly anywhere else until this is all over… or come help us. We need you world, you are our only hope.. (insert Star Wars leia r2d2 clip)

Millions and millions of jews and other minorities died and were murdered during the holocaust. I wouldn't say that the US is worse than that right now. The US isn't using gas chambers to kill masses of innocent people.

I know they finally shut the f*** up on here to a large extent over the past year.
And I don’t use Facebook, I’m sure it’s full of ai powered grave accounts of dead people worshiping a giant mango.
But I don’t know how any maga could honestly even, like, deal with social interactions outside of Facebook anymore.
How are their kids looking at them?
It’s bad on like every front, gas is more expensive, food is more expensive. Alienated allies, friends, decimated work forces, removed environmental protections, started a war, made everything more expensive with tarrifs, declared undying love and support for pedos, f****** *this*, the avalanche of shit is so f****** huge I don’t know how anyone could just take handfuls of it, eat it and proudly declare they f****** love it.
Okay well total perverts could so I guess that extreme fascist masochist section of maga will always be around.

They sleep at night telling themselves it could always be worse, if a Democrat was in charge. Kamala Harris would have personally turned every child trans and banned Christianity, on top of jailing everyone who voted Republican and shipping them off to foreign wars with sticks instead of guns because guns would be outlawed. Plus, it's their team, their team did some good things even if they do some bad things too, there's always a silver lining especially if you believe the people who are lying to you about it.

Shit like this solidifies my stand never to cross into the US or buy their products. Their system shows no compassion and is driven money, bonuses and greed. If someone has a fixed address, a job, a US spouse, and a visa, even if it has issues, you give them an appearance date to straighten out their paper work. You certainly don’t take a 7 year old into custody. What a shit hole country the US has become.

ICE locking up a mother and her special needs child isn't locking up "The worst of the worst". The ICE checkpoint needs to meet its quota and they don't care because they've convinced themselves the individuals they lock up aren't people. They are check marks. Their callous attitude is reinforced by a POTUS who disrespects Canadian and Mexican leaders.

Why is anyone coming here? There is a non-zero chance you will be taken away by ICE. That's too high of a chance.
Put off your trip for a few years to see if things get better. If they don't, consider you dodged a bullet by not coming.
