As an Iraqi I don't think this war is winnable for the US. Shia Muslims are almost fanatical when it comes to defending their homelands, whether thats us against ISIS, hezbollah against the israelis, and now the IRGC against USAF.
They will fight to the last breath if they have to.

Because that's what people do when they believe in their cause. When a population's homeland is attacked and their relatives killed, a fairly large part of that population will tend to take up "defending their home" as a cause they believe in.
It's nothing new - Soviet propaganda about a workers' paradise did far less to motivate Russians to fight Nazis than the Nazis did themselves.

The reason comes down to a battle in the early days of islam (battle of karbala), where Imam Hussein was outnumbered 72:50,000. They were killed and knew that would happen but refused to surrender
For shia muslims, Imam Hussein is kind of like Jesus Christ. If they die like him (martydom against impossible odds), it guarantees heaven.
And of course as others have pointed out, the fact that their homeland was attacked is motivation enough

Worse? He's making out like a bandit with oil over $100/barrel. He got the Iranians to close the strait so only his oil flows. He also jammed up mass transit so that everyone has to drive instead, with gas at $5+/gal. Soon he'll take Cuba and sell them oil at top dollar.
