Ignored or went along with? It’s been known.

"ABC tantalized by warnings from disgraced Bachelorette's 'Mormon Wives' decides to develop another show to really cash in on those warnings. Is disappointed when video becomes widely available."

TheRealStubb Mar 20, 2026 +31
that's exactly this, IIRC they literally had the secret lives of mormon wifes crew there when the police got called. They brushed over the whole thing as a 'drunken' mistake and then the whole show spent painting the victim Dakota in a horrible light.

BlueLikeCat Mar 20, 2026 +18
Disney - as American as exploiting people and apple pie

poorperspective Mar 21, 2026 +1
Wait. Mormons can drink?
1
TheRealStubb Mar 21, 2026 +1
no, but if you watch the show that's kind of their thing. Her family says this all happened because she lost her connection with 'god' They make a lot of mentions on how Mormons aren't supposed to drink but they don't all follow that 110%
1
poorperspective Mar 21, 2026 +1
So she figured out how to make money with her alcoholism? Got it.
1
UPnAdamtv Mar 20, 2026 +2
If you know anything remotely accurate about what’s going on you’d never call that vile man a victim. What she did was horrible but both can be bad. Do not paint this man in any positive light whatsoever. He stayed around and did everything he could to completely berate, abuse, and disgrace this woman from the moment he entered her life. Everyone surrounding them both have said this. Literally in the video itself you can hear her yell that he threw her down.
2
AvocadoRecipes Mar 20, 2026 +4
I ain’t a fan of her but you’re correct. That man is no f****** victim. The kid? Yes. And him releasing it online to spite her and bring the kid more drama was excellent timing. My sympathy is short and that’s reactionary abuse that unfortunately affected the kid physically and mentally for awhile.
4
Capt-Crap1corn Mar 20, 2026 +1
I agree with you because it always takes two to tango and yes, there are nuances to that, but I don't think anyone is saying that he's innocent. At the same time, she doesn't make herself look like a victim by her behavior, especially with her child present.
1
UPnAdamtv Mar 21, 2026 -1
The comment I replied to: > …and then the whole show spent painting the victim Dakota in a horrible light. Edit: also what is a victim supposed to paint themselves as? She has been consistently abused. How would you like her to act to be more “abuse victim” to you?
-1
TheRealStubb Mar 21, 2026 +1
Its kind of silly that your defending Taylors actions on the basis of not acting like the "perfect victim' yet you flame Dakota's actions. How is Dakota supposed to act? Do you expect him to be the 'perfect victim' I won't defend Dakota as a person, but its not a hot take to say no one deserves to have a chair thrown at them, and no child should be put in the position that Taylor put her child in. Makes you wonder why her ex doesn't want his children to be part of that show at all.

ExplosiveBrown Mar 20, 2026 +56
Her drama was good for ratings until it wasn’t It’s all fake PC, they love taking in cash off her mental and/or personality disorders and only now that there is a bogeyman out there that’s got people are they pulling back
56
Capt-Crap1corn Mar 20, 2026 +1
100% they have people that do pseudo psychological makeups and they know the type of people that are gonna be good for ratings. We also need to check ourselves. If people really liked normal people doing normal things, these shows would never be popular. They are popular for a reason.

The Venn diagram of people watching Mormon Wives and The Bachelorette is a circle
22
AvocadoRecipes Mar 20, 2026 +9
I’ve never watched either, not even the bachelor and was going to watch this out of morbid curiosity. They knew what they were doing.
9
MagnetoWasRight24 Mar 20, 2026 +9
I've never seen an episode of either show and even I remember hearing about this shit months ago.
9
Professional-Fee6914 Mar 20, 2026 +2
On the other show it was framed as, she was arrested, faced punishment, sought counseling, quit alcohol and is on the path to trying to be a better person in a TV magic-suspend your disbelief kind of way. I think their mistake was assuming that whatever trust they had built into her from that show would port along to the batchelorette, in the face of video evidence. Obviously, without the video evidence, there was a vast amount of interest in the show, even though everyone know what happened. So its not not like ABC was going to put out a show that people weren't going to watch because of past domestic violence. The public was going to eat up that redemption story. In fact, if ABC put out a statement saying that "they believe in power of growth, accountability and redemption, the way sports teams do" I'm betting most people would still tune in.
2
AvocadoRecipes Mar 20, 2026
Oh absolutely. The timing of this video struck a cord and more importantly the importance of their child in it.

Weeks before ABC [abruptly canceled *The Bachelorette*](https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/abc-abruptly-cancels-taylor-frankie-pauls-bachelorette-3-days-before-premiere/)*,* its lead’s TV co-stars tried to warn the network of her disturbing past, including the newly released video of her domestic abuse. Taylor Frankie Paul’s fellow cast members on *The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives* told multiple ABC and Disney executives about Paul’s “distressing” and “upsetting” video in a 30-minute meeting, audio leaked to NBC News revealed. In the Mar. 7 meeting, one of the *Mormon Wives* said it was “concerning” that no executive was interested in the details of the newly released footage that showed Paul, 31, throwing metal barstools at her ex, Dakota Mortensen, 33, in 2023, one of which appears to possibly strike her daughter, who was just five at the time. “I don’t know a lot, nor do I want to know too much,” Rob Mills, the executive vice president of unscripted and alternative entertainment at Walt Disney Television, told the *Mormon Wives*. “This is not me putting my head in the sand, but it’s not me—you know, I don’t want to inquire, because I don’t know what that does,” Mills added. Later in the meeting, one cast member asked the Disney executive if he was “aware she’s hurt a child,” to which Mills replied, “I don’t think, for us, getting into it is right.” “I want this to continue, and I want everyone to continue really being successful, both with this show and beyond it,” Mills said, “But I think really, just navigating through this thing and taking care of each other is the most important thing right now.” Read the full story, [here](https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/abc-ignored-warnings-from-disgraced-bachelorettes-mormon-wives/).

Claims he's not putting his head in the sand, then describes putting his head in the sand. These people are so incredibly stupid.

blenderdead Mar 20, 2026 +26
He’s literally saying, please stop telling me about this because the decision is made and I don’t want to responsible for this knowledge.
26
newalias_samemaleias Mar 20, 2026 +41
They're not stupid, they just have absolutely no compass outside of driving profit. There's a huge distinction between that two that needs to be acknowledged.
41
Ok_Builder_4225 Mar 20, 2026 +21
Except that they ignored a potential landmine that could cost them profit. I'd call that stupid.
21
Focusun Mar 20, 2026 +9
Short-term pain for long term profits...perish the thought.
9
ExplosiveBrown Mar 20, 2026 +11
Oh yeah. In fact, I would venture they bet on her propensity to explode as being good for the cameras. The only reason they’re pulling back at all is because of negative publicity which they don’t want affecting their shareholders
11
BirdMission7341 Mar 20, 2026 +3
Or advertisers. That’s the real story. Advertisers pull $ and it becomes a problem.
3
Imaginary_Coast_5882 Mar 20, 2026 +10
shitty. they’re so incredibly shitty.
10
ExplosiveBrown Mar 20, 2026 +5
It’s more that they think we’re all stupid. They’re not wrong. A lot of us are.

No stupidity just moral bankruptcy in the name of capitalism

CloseToMyActualName Mar 20, 2026 +29
*In 2023, Paul was charged with assault, criminal mischief, and domestic violence in the presence of a child, according to NBC News.* They didn't need the meeting or video, even a basic background check would have exposed the problem. Fact is, reality TV likes drama. They select for people who generate it.
29
TheRealStubb Mar 20, 2026 +7
IIRC the Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives camera crew was there when the police were called. I believe that was during Season 1. Season 4 just aired.
7
ten_year_rebound Mar 20, 2026 +8
March 7th was way too late for an intervention. The season was shot months ago and about to release. ABC wasn’t going to cancel the season based on whatever the cast was saying in a closed door meeting. The video was the turning point.
8
TheRealStubb Mar 20, 2026 +5
The same ABC that films Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and was WELL aware of the entire situation
5
happyscrappy Mar 20, 2026 +3
Technically ABC doesn't film it. They buy it from another company that produces it. that company is Warner Brothers Discovery. My understanding is that WBD filmed the mormon wives show and filmed the bachelorette too. They had to know. And if Disney didn't know then I would suspect this is at least partly a product of not wanting to find out. aka plausible deniability.
3
ten_year_rebound Mar 20, 2026 +2
Sorry I worded this poorly. I meant that the video going PUBLIC was the turning point for them to scrap the show since there was zero plausible deniability left. I had no doubt that ABC knew more than enough about her history before they signed her for Bachelorette, they just weren’t going to scrap the season unless it went nuclear (which it did).
2
rockness_monster Mar 20, 2026 +3
These executives are acting like nature photographers filming a documentary in the Serengeti.
3
vox4penguins Mar 20, 2026 +2
that's basically what i figured had happened as soon as i heard it was cancelled. there was no way the execs didn't know, so i just assumed it was a 'cover your ears and go LALALALALALALALA' kind of situation
2
PhD_Pwnology Mar 20, 2026 +31
Trash Tv executives not willing to do anything when one their TV stars act like trash. More news tonight at 10 after our riveting story about how water is wet.
31
Zombie1642 Mar 20, 2026 +20
They knew. People who watched the tick toks knew. People who watched the show knew. They ignored it to make money. The film does make it much more damning to poeple out of the know. The best part: taylor and Dakota are still on again off again on her show. She even slept with him the night before going TO FILM THE BACHELORETTE. The season of SLOMW ends with them asking if Taylor is PREGNANT with Dakotas child!
20
happyscrappy Mar 20, 2026 +6
This show sounds like trash.
6
Zombie1642 Mar 20, 2026 +2
It is. Lots of drama. Most of the girls are fine but the stand outs really stand out. Just awful people
2
bonestamp Mar 20, 2026 +1
> People who watched the tick toks knew. What was in the tiktoks?
1
Zombie1642 Mar 20, 2026 +1
Thats how it started. The original group is call mom tok cause theyre a bunch of dancing Mormon moms. Taylor shared a ton of her mess there. The arrest, the swinging, the cheating. She post everything
1
cinciNattyLight Mar 20, 2026 +51
Looks like a lot of bachelors just dodged a bullet… and possibly a chair.
51
Shermanator92 Mar 20, 2026 +23
Y’all don’t understand that this was already filmed lol, she got engaged to one of the guys on the show. Allegedly she went home and screwed the guy in the DV video while engaged with this new guy.
23
headhurt21 Mar 20, 2026 +6
That doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
6
TheRealStubb Mar 20, 2026 +5
She literally slept with the DV guy (Dakota) the day before she flew out to film too. And she slept with him during the beginning of season 4 of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Season 4 was a big lead up to her leaving to film Bachelorette
5
Unlucky_Welcome9193 Mar 20, 2026 +28
I mean, they're lucky she didn't try to harm any of the Bachelorette contestants. They knowingly put those guys at risk of harm
28
jrh1128 Mar 20, 2026 +11
How would we know whether she did or didn't? The entire season is complete, we haven't seen *any* of the footage from it.
11
Ordinary-Leading7405 Mar 20, 2026 +4
If she did harm anyone in the show it would probably drive ratings higher. Maybe that’s why they left her in after the 2023 incident.
4
bonestamp Mar 20, 2026 +2
I was thinking something similar... the exec still encouraged the other cast members to speak out on the show, which makes me wonder if he knew this would happen and it would generate a ton of publicity for Mormon Wives too.
2
Unlucky_Welcome9193 Mar 21, 2026 +1
I guess technically we don't, but I feel like it would have leaked. That's a leaky show to begin with and I'm not sure NDAs coved being assaulted
1
natali9233 Mar 20, 2026 +2
It probably won’t, but I hope this kills the show entirely, and all of the stupid spin-offs. Put the trash out where it belongs.
2
wrongsock_42 Mar 20, 2026 +9
When we wonder why no one speaks up in the entertainment industry, please think of this executive. They chose to avoid details so the network would have a show to sell to advertisers.
9
ninfan1977 Mar 20, 2026 +14
How did they ignore it? Did they not even know this was brought up on her own show? They hoped the video would never come out. ABC knew and are just pretending they did not know. I didn't watch the show and I knew about it.
14
ExplosiveBrown Mar 20, 2026 +6
Reports of domestic abuse and violence perpetrated by women really are not taken seriously by society, in fact, I’m sure it was seen as a personality quirk that would drive ratings The only reason they feign concern here is because of bad publicity.
6
IANALbutIAMAcat Mar 20, 2026 +4
She was arrested that night and pled guilty idk what you’re on about with this.
4
ExplosiveBrown Mar 20, 2026
And kept her highly publicized career which most men would have been immediately canceled
0
IANALbutIAMAcat Mar 20, 2026 +1
I can think of very few men who were ever truly cancelled, for DV or worse. Look at Chris Brown. Look at the NFL. Look… around.
1
ExplosiveBrown Mar 20, 2026 -1
Hilarious
-1
IANALbutIAMAcat Mar 20, 2026 +2
Dismissive. Engage or don’t, but you’re not arguing in good faith here.
2
TheRealStubb Mar 20, 2026 +2
Yeah this happened in 2023, they knew about it. They also knew about while filming the Bachelorette. They literally ONLY canceled the season because the video came out. They had this video before, they knew what happened.
2
nikonwill Mar 20, 2026 +1
They didn't care, and they probably hoped the case would bring more ratings. The people who make these shows are the worst people in media, so just imagine the most vile explanation imaginable and you're probably close to guessing the truth.
1
Standard-Radish-9805 Mar 20, 2026 +4
Saw the video. Very sad how the daughter starts crying
4

Great job Disney!! Enable a domestic and child abuser.

What does it take to become a TV executive? No talent? Connections? Certainly not intelligence.
4
ninjaface Mar 20, 2026 +5
Everything I know about this person is 100% against my will.
5
somehowintelligent Mar 21, 2026 +5
I think the strangest thing is that there were apparently 22 men who found this woman attractive. I supposed it’s all an act and publicity stunt but could you imagine if you actually won? 😬
5
Dangerous-Change2136 Mar 21, 2026 +4
Fun fact: The guy who “won” is her victim’s doppelgänger and they have the same initials
4
thedicknavis Mar 20, 2026 +2
They didn’t ignore it. They just hoped you wouldn’t notice.
2
Purring4Krodos Mar 20, 2026 +2
...Mills encouraged the Mormon Wives to speak out about their concerns on the show, emphasizing that the company is “never going to hide anything that is wrong for the sake of business,”... Which is whackadoo because I back in 2023, I LOVED Mormon mess and it was a known all over socials and media that TFP had beaten Dakota, chased him down, threw the stool, and hit her daughter. We saw the arrest videos from the body cam waaaayyyy back then. TFP should have been fired THEN but ABC/Hulu/Disney+ *also love mess* and it makes them a ton of money. Mills should lose his job. Any staff member who knew about this and ignored it should lose their jobs.
2
see_blue Mar 20, 2026 +2
Over the long haul, this show succeeds about as well as The Biggest Loser. Stick a fork in it already.
2

Those executives need to be f****** fired. They just lost so much ad revenue because of his determination to learn nothing.

Regardless of who is at fault in this failed relationship an innocent 5-yr-old is the real victim. A mother who would then blame the 5-yr-old for the violence is in need of serious mental health intervention. Need I say that this is not the time to hook this particular bachelorette up with anyone. She's into too much violence. Without the benefit of treatment any bachelor getting involved with this bachelorette is in serious trouble.
