They were fine with the allegations, charges, probation etc. They are saving face because the video came out where she strikes her five year old with a chair while beating her husband.
Hard to wrap your head around why they decided to even go through with it.

The video happened off-camera while they filmed season 1. Then they showed clips of the police bodycam footage and continued filming as if nothing happened. No one talked about it as much, even the fandom. For some reason, Whitney Leavitt's self-righteous, annoying behavior was a bigger deal to people than Taylor hitting her partner and child with a chair.

It was clear in the episode that something bad happened, but they also let her be the one to explain it and absolutely downplayed how bad it was. I definitely was left with the impression that this girl has problems and the couple had a bad fight, but they just kind of made it sound like an accident that anybody got hurt.
I was still surprised she got cast on the Bachelorette but the video is MUCH worse than I expected.

Yeah on the show she described it as she and Dakota were fighting and her daughter happened to walk in at the worst moment. And then made it sound like it ended after her daughter entered the scene.

Taylor was trying to get back into the church. I think they talked about it last season and again this season when Jessi mentions Taylor won’t be at the Halloween party so it’s okay to serve alcohol since she’s not there.

This is a large part of the Mormon culture, half in half out at any given time. Knew a handful families that practiced it when their grandparents were around and then back to being complete turds the rest of the time. Weird religion from my viewpoint. We just kind of walked away from Catholic routines and just wanted Sundays for family and fun for us, wasn't horrible just very time consuming and we just grew tired of the process .

I’m not saying it’s right - but something about a video really rattles people. Ray Rice had a full police report of punching his girlfriend(?) in the face but faced almost no punishment until the public saw the video — his career was over. Diddy had long police reports from Cassie but until that hotel footage was released it wasn’t real.
Video is powerful.

Because reality tv is trash tv and people purposely tune in for the “drama”. If it was a show about a group of moms filming TikTok’s while bringing the kids to the playground and going out to brunch no one would watch. But throw in an abusive relationship and you just turned it into must see tv.
Most of what you see with reality tv is manufactured but when it’s not you end up with a chair to a child’s head. Something like this should be the end for a reality tv star, but unfortunately in the world of reality tv this just makes them more marketable. The pivot here is for appearances only, Paul will unfortunately be back.

How the f*** did Disney sign off on casting someone with a. Fresh DV felony conviction, two baby daddies, and a reality show involving swinging Mormons as “The Bachelorette“
I know the show is a farce at this point and nobody is actually looking for true love, but it at least kept the facade that the producers were trying to set them up for success.
She’s an awful person. Imagine signing up to be on a dating show and they send you out with a known abuser.

Disney also owns Hulu that has the Mormon wives show. This abuse event from 2023 was in episode 1 where they show police footage (different than the current video inside the house circulating) and there was a clear police report that was public record accurately describing everything in the video.
Hulu kept her on the Mormon Wives show for multiple seasons, ABC (Disney) cast her on Bachelorette, fans questioned this given her history, Disney didn't care, fast forward to now when the video was released and sponsors started to boycott and Disney finally dropped the season and pretended to care.

72
MrVociferousMar 20, 2026

Reportedly in the tens of millions. They finished shooting on the show so all of the expenses for crews, travel, lodging, etc is spent. They have deals with hotel chains, resorts, airlines, etc where they get paid in exposure….ABC/Warner Bros are going to have to pay that back now. There’s also all of the post production people they’ve contracted to edit and finish the season that are now going to lose their jobs. TBD on if they still get paid if the show is cancelled mid contract but most of those are union jobs I believe so seems like they’d get paid.
Then you also add in all of the hours and hours of programming this was going to take up in the air they’d sold ads against. That’s all gone now too.
This could easily be enough to end the entire franchise. Franchise had been shedding viewers for years, gonna be tough to bounce back from this.
EDIT: Oh! And don’t forget lawyer fees! Soooo many billable hours about to happen.

There’s already lots of accusations of who let things slide, but apparently they were so excited for the mess/crossover viewership that they rushed past a lot of the deep dives they’d normally do for a show like this - they never looked for/asked for the video or police report, so all they were operating with was “yeah she’s pretty crazy, she was found guilty but sentenced to probation and she and her lawyers swear it was a mutual fight/misunderstanding that got out of hand, and he had better lawyers”. The chair throwing and hitting her kid were technically still allegations and she swore everything was blown way out of proportion/untrue.
They knew she was a mess, and even the promos were emphasizing what an absolute mess this season was gonna be (her ignoring the format of the show, wanting to go back on her decisions, the men saying “if she tries to keep me I’ll say no”), and hinting at “she’s sweet, but if you get on her bad side she’s really intense” or something along those lines.
Then she was on Good Morning America, and when asked a complete softball question, said a bunch of gibberish about it “being hard on her family” or something.
If just the police report had been all that came out, and she had been able to respond to even slightly coherently when asked to talk about it, I absolutely think they still would have gone ahead. But between the video/full police report being public, and her ABSOLUTE failure to respond coherently on GMA (which was probably gonna be one of the friendlier promo appearances she’d be making), there was no longer any way for them to pass it off as accusations or just talk or taken out of context (though that is still her excuse).

So my wife is a fan of the show and the tl;dr is, they are getting divorced because of his cheating and her chair throwing and similar things. Even though they broke up they kept banging which made things very toxic.
Because on paper they are divorcing and was the hot thing in reality TV she was on the Bachelorette.

She was also part of a "soft swinging" sex group among their TikTok parent and Mormon group in Utah. Your wife needs to sit you down and debrief you on everything because there is so much lore lol.

Yeah, she has been a mess for years. ABC and Hulu were pretty stupid not to conduct any risk assessment or prevention, given how trashy she was. The fight with the chair happened while they filmed S1, too, and the bodycam footage was in the series premiere, so neither Hulu nor ABC can play dumb and act like they didn't know about her abusive behavior.

Yuck. Swinging for Moroni? I know they aren't swinging for Jesus.
Gives me the ick. Reminds me of when my kids were little in the 90s and I worked in a bar. There was a couple that would come in, and the wife and the husband were both pursuing me separately. ( They weren't even good tippers, lol. $50 tab and they would tip me $2-$3 after they had folded one dollar bills into oragami and buy roses from the flower lady, or fold cocktail napkin roses) One night the husband paid me in cash, and deliberately dropped the money, and when I went to pick it up, the wife bit me on the ass. I picked up the money, and a scene was made. I yelled for security.
Not long after, my son was interested in joining boy scouts, and guess who was the leader of the local troop? And apparently they were also active in their church. But also trying to hook up with female bar employees for threesomes.
It's a very specific sort of ick that it gives me.

ABC didn't give a shit about the "allegations" (she took a plea agreement for assault) until the public outcry began.
How tone-deaf do you have to be to continue with this trainwreck of a human in today's social climate around domestic abuse?
Did they think that because the aggressor was a woman that this would just cruise right under the collective radar?
Boneheaded decisions all around on this one.

Look at those eyes! How did they not know, lol.
Anyhow, she's a single mother of three kids by 2 different men, with a domestic violence conviction (sentenced to 3 years probation) who starred in a previous reality TV show where it came out she was a swinger, and yet she is selected to be worth competing for on national TV. 22 men won the right to be filmed vying for her hand in marriage. Hundreds of guys tried to be in that group of 22. That's where American society sits right now.

My wife watches this reality show with this violent psychopath.
I've never seen a group of more obvious sociopaths in my life.
They neglect their children, the couples constantly are manipulating and trying to harm each other in various ways.
They are obsessed with status and money while their marriages all fall apart, and literally cry over losing money more than the dissolution of their marriages, their traumatized children, and their broken homes.
They have kids with multiple fathers, and go around collecting more and more.
I've never seen someone treat their mother the way this woman does hers.
The entire group is filled with the most revolting, self absorbed, talentless, evil, garbage people, I have ever seen in my life.
I think everyone is watching and fascinated with the absolute train wreck, and that fascination has brought fame and fortune to these absolute shit bag people.
It's genuinely not surprising that she bashed her own child with a chair...
She's missing the same parts of her brain Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy were missing, and she should be locked behind bars before she murders someone.
