Government pension would be at risk. Even if there were no direct punishments affecting their pension status they’d never get another federal job so may never see the pension if they weren’t vested and if they were it could be a fraction of what they were planning.
There’s likely no job they qualify for that will pay close to what they are making or provide the Sam benefits. Maybe some could get another LE job but if you’ve ever tried to get into LE it’s not something you just apply for and expect to get hired in a couple weeks. It’s a very competitive field.

Brief online search looks like **they can't go to jail or be criminally charged because they're civilian federal employees**. They can be fired over it but nothing about it is inherently criminal.
I don't think there's a legal blacklist but the grounds on which they terminate you could affect future federal employment.
No idea on back pay but I would assume they would still be legally owed what they worked until they were terminated.

So we start a for profit prison, then bid (very low) on the TSA contract, Pay prisoners $0.3 per hour ( that is really what prison labor pays) and an ever revolving staff of minimum wage "guards"
each guard can supervise 20 inmates.
so for $21 you can replace 20 TSA agents.
Now after we get the contract we will "discover" that the airports need extensive renovations to insure "safety", however the government pays for all that, and hires our specialized construction company to do all that work.
So now we have our very c**** labor doing all the work and we have a perpetual contract for our construction company.
Oh and the best part, we don't need any of this to get the contract we just say we can do it then get payed for all the time to ramp it up. we use that money to buy a construction company and get started.

TSA employees are making $55-70k a year.. a lot more than a fast food worker and much better benefits. My buddy has worked for them for ~15 years and makes like $75k
215
GobblewicketMar 14, 2026
+155
Starting pay is $34-40k with variables factoring like cost of living in an area. The TSA also has the highest turnover rate of any federal agency. They've taken steps to reduce that by.... paying more. And its dropped from a 15.7% turn over rate in 2022 to 7.8% in 2025. But what do you think is going to happen when people need to feed their families and pay their rent/mortgage and the one thing that upped retention, more money, just fuckin disappears? If the turnover is that high for the last 3 years, before 2022 it got as high as 20%, it means the vast majority of TSA are the exact opposite of your buddy and are in the bottom end of the scale.
And just to break it down $34k is $16.34 an hour and 40k is $19.23 on a 40hr a week job. Which is fast food pay.
155
Draconuus95Mar 14, 2026

Plus benefits. Plus pretty standard hours. Fast food and other such restaurant service jobs generally don’t come with benefits and also can be very hit or miss when it comes to scheduling or being cut early and such. Not unless your management.
Doesn’t make this a good situation. But. It’s definitely not truly comparable to fast food work when you look at compensation.
21
stay_curious_-Mar 14, 2026
+14
Yeah. The big difference from a fast food job is that TSA gives good health insurance, which is why some people are staying even when the pay is so inconsistent. For some families, TSA is one of the only ways to get solid health insurance without a five-figure deductible.

TittMar 14, 2026

I wouldn’t say *a lot* more than fast food workers. Chik-fil-a in my area starts people at $19.50 - $23/hr. McDonald’s overnight is 21-23.25 start. Shift manager is 22 - 26.25 start.
Benefits and retirement are what gov jobs really have over most others. My dad makes about $5600/mo just from his gov pension with 33ish years of service + 3300 social security.

To add to this. The thing that has actually stopped plane hijacks is the fact that the cabin door to the pilots is locked during flights.
Hell, even putting on undercover marshals contributes to the actual safety of flights.
Letting mall cops power trip, take pictures of your junk, and steal your electronics is not and never has been something that stops terrorists.
The real way to stop terrorists is to stop antagonizing every middle eastern country with a war. To stop trying to install puppet regimes more friendly to our oil companies.

I read comments like this but its just parroting bullshit you hear form people in congress that want to get rid of TSA for private security. They want the contract. The tests you hear of that say TSA misses 95 percent of the prohibited items is not a genuine test in the way you would think it is. It is done by the RED team and these tests are designed to push our tests and procedures to the limit to change SOP and innovate our technology. The tests are designed to find holes in our procedures by people who know them. The statistic that is referenced in itself is also from over ten years ago. These tests are the reasons we have CT scanners now and AIT body scanners.

Former TSA here, it is security theater. The TSA is meant to be part theater. It’s set up that way to discourage anyone from trying anything because they might be caught. And before you say anything, yes, almost all TSA knew this and talked about it when I worked there. Also, the airports will never go back to private security. It would cost the airlines too much. The airlines save a lot of money for their shareholders by having the taxpayers pay for airport security.

Imaging starting an asymmetrical war with a well known sponser of terrorism, when your TSA agents are not being paid because you desperately want your immigration paramilitary goons to wear masks and no body cameras.
We’ve already had at least 3 shooting/terror attacks in America.
Just a staggering level of incompetence.

Bingo. Warmonger Presidents see terrorist attacks as opportunities. A few people die they were willing to sacrifice anyways, allowing them to justify escalation, and the inevitable civilian casualties on the other side. And, the moment an outsider is committing terrorist attacks, news of DHS's own brutality starts to shrink ... because to the average American an Islamic Terrorist is just scarier and grabs more attention than a "police involved shooting". A few failed attempts to blow up an airplane won't much change the largely negative opinions Americans have on this war - but a successful attack may reignite some of the Islamophobia that kicked off the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

THIS^^^
Along with gutting the counterintelligence team tasked with Iran threats and this, they're practically begging for an Iranian based terrorist attack to happen. At this point IMO even if there's a legitimate attack (God forbid) it's fully on the Trump admin with them taking all these safeguards down

Yup, he’s following his buddy Putin’s lead. He’s trying to create the perfect conditions for a terrorist attack here in the U.S.
If that doesn’t work I fully expect them to just do it themselves. It’ll be obvious to anyone with a brain, but it won’t matter.

I mean it's not like TSA actually does much to stop terrorism. If you're going to kill people in an airport you may as well do it in the terminal, since you can't hijack planes anymore because of the only ACTUAL improvement to air safety after 9/11 (armored cockpit doors)

The airports keep the world moving - TSA and air traffic controllers. If enough of you put in your 2 week notices, something might change. With the time training takes, you guys cannot be replaced fast enough to not give congress a nice swift kick in the balls. They’d have to figure this shit out.
That being said, terrible time for this to happen, especially with the job market. I feel for you and your family. I don’t know what I’d do without a paycheck. I wish the best for you and your coworkers. We’re all just people trying to get through the day.

Get through traffic, figure where to park, take the tram to the employee entrance, walk across a giant terminal, deal with random people all day, have to touch them sometimes, explain sometimes stupid policies to people, reverse it all to get home, then do it all again tomorrow. And a couple times each year there is a really good chance that i just wont be paid for some time. For $54K/yr.

I do not know for sure but I'm guessing it's to maintain benefits and retirement plans. I've noticed a large influx of gig drivers in my area and I live near a major airport. I'm guessing a lot of tsa agents are working temp jobs at night or on weekends.
There's also no excuse for the government to withhold bonuses and pay. They spent over $11 billion in a week to start a war. The money is there. But they want to blame bureaucracy to not pay them

This is such horseshit. TSA employees are not wealthy people. They are being forced to report for work without pay, or they get fired. Their rent is due, their kids are hungry, & they’re still in debt from the last shutdown. How much longer do we expect them to keep soldering on while politicians fart around before they start quitting in huge numbers and airports grind to a halt.

Its really funny how every time there is a budget issue, it's the regular people that need to work for free, lose services, or go hungry, etc.
But they somehow always can find money for secret service so the president can golf in another state, or fly their planes to attend their GFs concerts, or make marketting campaigns that have nothing to do with the service they provide, or hand any weapons supplier a blank check for more missiles/drones/bullets/tanks/airplanes.
Funny how that works.
