About the little red "NSFW" that appears next to posts...

Posted by KeyserSosa

We just added a [preference](/prefs) to turn it off if it makes your eyes bleed and/or offends your sensibilities. It's under "content options"

What does 'make safe(r) for work' do?
19
KeyserSosa Dec 15, 2009 +21
Hides thumbnails of NSFW content (whether it has NSFW in the title or comes from an over 18 sublistnook).
21
j-mar Dec 15, 2009 +10
Why thank you.

3
[deleted] Dec 15, 2009 +1
i don't want to add to anyone's workload, but i can't get this request "voted up" enough as a post to get it noticed. it would be so freaking great if on a listnook admin page the "spam" link would be a different color or something if there was new spam there. icing on the cake would be some way to remove from view spam that's decidedly spam, just so it isn't re-thought about every time one visits the 'spam' folder. ThAnKyOu!

Any chance you can "make safe(r) for work" change the blazing red NSFW to listnook blue NSFW? Blazing red NSFW kinda sticks out as... well... NSFW while at work. Great feature though.
2
geekdad Dec 15, 2009 +1
Hey raldi... can you look at [this post](http://www.listnook.com/r/listnook.com/comments/a92n6/listnook_admins_if_i_am_logged_in_and_i_have_i_am/) I made a week or so ago? since we are on the topic of NSFW and all
1
raldi Dec 15, 2009 +1
That's a question / suggestion for KeyserSosa.
1
VulturE Dec 15, 2009 +1
Thanks. It was annoying as hell to have TrueListnook displayed as NSFW every time cause the admin arbitrarily used it for poor reasons.

[ ] Hide thumbnails that are not safe for work (NSFW)
7
KeyserSosa Dec 15, 2009 -4
Yeah, I agree: that makes more sense than "make safe(r) for work". We'll probably tweak that on our next deploy.
-4
captainron Dec 15, 2009 +1
I saw a sponsored link a week or two ago with some serious NSFW content on the thumbnail and it wasn't flagged NSFW. The option would still be very helpful to have but I'm way too concerned people will submit NSFW content without flagging it now, especially with all the "angry" Listnookors that apparently don't take breaks at work.
1
emc2rae Dec 15, 2009 +6
Maybe I'm the only one who wants this, but as long as things are able to be tagged NSFW, is there a way for me to just...not have them show up on my listnook page at all? I tried claiming to be under 18, but that just affects my ability to subscribe to certain listnooks.

Paste this in the address bar: javascript:void($('acronym').each(function(){$(this).css({'text-decoration':'blink'});})) **UPDATE:** Chrome-friendly version: javascript:void($('acronym').each(function(){var el=$(this);el.blink=function(){el.css({'visibility':el.css('visibility')!='hidden'?'hidden':'visible'});setTimeout(el.blink,500);};el.blink();}))

How about a way to make it not red. It's the red that kills me.
7
KantLockeMeIn Dec 15, 2009 +4
But the red makes everyone realize that the mail icon color is orange and *not* red. Isn't that reason enough?
4
Ron_Santo Dec 15, 2009 +2
I'd like it there, just so long as it isn't bright red. Shouldn't there be a compromise option?

SirChasm Dec 15, 2009 +1
Could we have more options regarding NSFW content? I'm just not sure the current customization options adequately protect those of us at work who have co-workers constantly watching over our shoulder as we're browsing listnook.
1
kloo2yoo Dec 15, 2009 +3
Who / what determines whether the NSFW flag is set? I've made submissions and haven't noticed a nsfw checkbox.
3
[deleted] Dec 15, 2009 +3
Is checks if NSFW is in the text of the title and, if so, puts the red thing there too with css hackery.
3
kloo2yoo Dec 15, 2009 +1
Actually, I can't find the post now, but I came across one this morning that had a red tag on it, but was not nsfw and the magic letters weren't in the headline.
1
caleb555 Dec 15, 2009 +3
If it's in a NSFW sublistnook it will be marked as NSFW.
3
[deleted] Dec 15, 2009 +3
I don't believe you.
3
acmecorps Dec 15, 2009 +1
And, if I'm not mistaken, it also tags the posts from sublistnooks that set themselves as NSFW.
1
smeenz Dec 15, 2009 +1
Who even thought that a bold red tag saying NSFW would be a good idea has never had a manager shoulder surfing their session. A better idea would have been to display the story in a pale grey on white or something so that their eye is not drawn automatically to the only bold red tags on the page.

Is there a way I can mark my comments as NSFW? The preference "i be over eighteen years old, an' be willing t' view adult content (be required t' view some listnooks)" should then apply.

I couldn't click this link and read your announcement that I can turn off the NSFW tag because this post is NSFW.

This reminds me, why is it that when I'm at work, the top posts of the hour are full of p***, with thumbnails and everything, even if they are marked as NSFW, or are from NSWF sublistnooks, and even if I disable adult content on my preferences? Why doesn't any of it work?

That seems odd. Can you post the relevant sections of your prefs?

I appreciate this. New features are fine for those that love them but the ability to NOT 'upgrade' is great for those who like listnook just the way it is!

I'm not sure if you said WTF before you came or if you accidentally ended up in a p*** video, but hey, here's an upvote.
