That's a genuinely insane list of people. I can't even imagine what Ad Rock, Willem Dafoe, and Adam Sandler would look like in a scene together.

And Steve Zahn

Steve Zahn is one of those guys that could just show up in any context and I wouldn't even blink.

Scott Cooper maybe the most 6/10 director working today

He really is. And the issue is his movies always sound interesting and have great people attached. Then it comes out and it’s the most mediocre movie you’ve ever seen

Crazy Heart is really good but yeah everyone of his other movies is just fine.

He must be because I didn't realise who he was until I read your comment.

With the potential for an occasional 7/10

Whoops, I always get this guy mixed up with Scott Frank (Godless, The Queen's Gambit) and I just did it again until I read this comment.

I thought Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace, Black Mass, and Hostiles were all good-to-great. Haven't seen anything he's done afterwards.

Man Crazy Heart was so good. He's just had a weird career since.

Zestyclose_Ad_5815 Mar 25, 2026
That's best case scenario (Crazy Heart). His last three were huge stinkers.

Sandler with Scott Cooper and Willem Dafoe is not the kind of combo I would have guessed, but now I want to see it.

Didn't realise anyone wanted to see a Scott Cooper film.

I remember watching watching the French one many years ago, it was a good movie

IrvinIrvingIII Mar 25, 2026 +1
Is it a comedy? Sounds boarderline bleak. But that is French humour tbf.

pedroktp Mar 25, 2026 +1
I didnt get the impression that it was a comedy at all, it's a man who got laid off from work and decided to keep it from his wife and parents. To earn money on the side he gets involved in some illegal schemes

I like majority of coopers films makes mid budget dramas and tends to deliver for me. I personally liked antlers out of his most recent films didn't expect him to do that film. Hope this turns out good

PowSuperMum Mar 25, 2026 +2

Sandler's having the career we all assumed Jim Carrey and Mike Myers would have.
3
hhl9982 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I still think Carrey could come back and get at lease an Oscar nomination if he really wanted to. But I don’t think he really cares. Myers could have done more if he would have just acted in other people’s movies more often. I’m an unabashed fan of So I Married and Axe Murderer, but he got such shit for that one which was him playing a normal person in no makeup that I don’t think he ever did it again. He was always a “character” or behind some type of prosthetics. I also think that a film’s financial success was judged a bit differently back then at least with respect to A list stars. If we had streaming then to the extent that we do now with Netflix and Apple throwing money around, Carrey could likely have had a number of well funded prestige projects without the pressure of a massive opening weekend. Though I am glad Sandler is trying to do real work now even if just to see what all he is capable of.

Not a big Cooper fan (who is?) but any time Sandler does one of his more serious movies, I’ll be in to check it out. They don’t come around often and he’s usually doing interesting stuff in them or being used in an interesting way.

Damn I was hoping for another Cooper/Bale joint.

gaby hoffman? _the_ gaby hoffman? the very same gaby hoffman who [defended louis ck](https://www.the-independent.com/arts-entertainment/tv/news/gaby-hoffman-louis-ck-eric-b2552470.html) when he was being cancelled for sexual abuse against 5 women? that he openly admitted to the accusations? and she still said "cancel culture nonsense is hugely problematic" and belittled what he did as just "flaws"? _THAT_ gaby hoffman?
