Adam Scott does the rare thing of complaining about something only after having experienced it firsthand

Had the pleasure of hitting Bonnaroo (06,07,09) a few times in my 20's and to think of going now, the lineup would have to be pretty ridiculous to get me out on the farm at 40 lol.

I didn’t go, but I somehow inherited the 2009 tie dyed tshirt. That shirt has been in my possession for nearly 15 years now, I wear it every now and then and I’ll get stopped to be asked about it. I was way too young to go, I bet it was lent to me at a friend’s sleepover who has an older sibling and I just never gave it back. We probably didn’t know its significance.

I just got home from my first time at Coachella at 38 y/o. Hit Bonnaroo for several years in my early 30s too. Coachella was super fun and looking forward to doing it again in the future. The internet is really in a weird place right now where commenters glorify hating everything, staying home all the time and experiencing nothing life has to offer but the couch. I hope I never become like that. There’s so much to see and do out there.

I used to love going to festivals and would still be interested if it weren’t for the ridiculous prices to get in + food + merch + travel +… you get the idea
I can technically afford to go to these things, but I can’t justify that cost.

You're responding to somebody who agrees with you and trying to point out a minority as a whole. Why generalize something unprovoked? Maybe what you perceive as blind hate is masking the legit criticism that surrounds it.

I went in ‘13 and ‘14 when it was already starting to get really corporate. Still had a lot of fun, but I don’t know if I’d go back these days. The lineups have been pretty shitty, and good god GA is astronomical.
3
HalfEatenBananaApr 23, 2026
+5
Same!! I went back in ‘24 though and the magic is indeed still there. Once you’re in, it’s pretty easy to avoid noticing how corporate it may seem from the outside.
Except for the lemonade stands. Mother effing $15(?) for a damn lemonade that’s really just 70% ice. But they’re so damn strategically located and you just can’t help yourself. The lemonade beckons on your trek from one side of the Polo Grounds to the other

I'm all about that "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from Company B"...
When I was in the fourth grade, we did a tribute to our principal who was retiring and each grade did a musical number of one of her decades. Our class was the 1940s, and we sang and "Over There" and did swing dance to "In the Mood". Because we were kids we giggled while singing 'in the n***'. Memories lol

Nothing can replace the sonic pleasure that comes from outdoor speakers and their volume levels. Feeling the earth beneath you vibrating with every bass hit.
You can’t get that from a tv and live streamed events usually have a really poor mix.
But the mainstream ones are expensive. Coachella isn’t my cup of tea. Far from it. I can spend less and travel to Europe for a festival + sightseeing days. I putty those who have to go to Coachella to catch a a favorite act.

I think Coachella specifically is its own thing. Like besides being a festival it's this weird Influencer/Entertainment world thing. It's never sounded appealing to me.
There's still tons of great festivals out there, at least. It's pretty impressive how many decent ones there are across the US (and the UK from what I know. But the UK has been doing it for a while)

I am in my mid forties as well. I have done different types fests since probably 06. Starting with Ultra in Miami and basically a fest of some sort nearly every year. The older I get the less I enjoy 90 percent of them. I worked pitchfork (rip) and Lolla. Both were exhausting and reminds me how old I am. The one that has me coming back year after year is Riotfest. Its designed for alternative and punk people in there 40s

I could curate the musical acts, the venue, the foods, the environment, control the weather… just about everything for my own personal festival and probably not have a great time anymore. I’m talking gatekeeping the shit out of the crowd, having regularly spaced lounges for just me and people I approve of… It would be a waste. Sitting on my couch or lounging on my bed with earbuds with my eyes closed streaming my favorites or changing vinyl is as good as it gets anymore. I can’t recapture 40 years ago.

*From Far Out Magazine’s Tom Taylor:*
Adam Scott has shared his experience of attending Coachella, describing the festival as largely unenjoyable — with one notable exception.
Speaking about the event, Scott said he “hated everything” about the festival environment, from the scale and atmosphere to the broader culture surrounding it. However, he singled out The Strokes as a highlight, praising their performance amid an otherwise negative experience.
His comments reflect a wider divide in how Coachella is perceived. While it remains one of the most prominent music festivals in the world, it has also faced criticism for its size, cost, and reputation as a social media-driven event rather than a purely musical one.
That tension — between spectacle and substance — continues to shape how the festival is discussed, even as major acts like The Strokes draw strong reactions from fans.

I don’t want to be the old person screaming into the void, but I went to Coachella in the early 00’s. I was trying to explain to someone that having Bieber, Sabrina etc, would have been like having n sync or Christina Aguilera there back then. It just wouldn’t have happened. There were always mainstream acts (beastie boys, the cure, etc.,), but you didn’t really have The Biggest Pop Stars in the World there headlining.
I actually do love pop music now, I enjoy watching the live streams, it was just a different vibe back then.

This is the general sentiment for anyone who …. hasn’t been to coachella.
Anyone who’s been and goes regularly understands that these people makeup a very small minority of the festival. Everyone is frequently welcoming, kind, fun and there for the music and vibes (which covers nearly every genre btw). I got to see NIN, Hugel (w/ Snoop Dog), Major Lazer (w/ MIA), The Strokes, the XX, Disclosure, f****** MOBY, David Byrne, Jack White, Foster the People, & Fatboy Slim this year…
Don’t let armchair listnookors have you believe that it’s a superficial performative experience…. It’s simply not. It’s nothing but a beautiful experience w/ varied music nearly every year.

That’s what I always tell people. So many different artists and fans you can’t really generalize the people going. Had an amazing time when I’ve gone. I haven’t gone in a few years because I live in San Francisco and can walk to outside lands from my apartment. It requires a lot less planning haha

I went my first year in 2010 and I met a lot of festival vets that were lamenting that it was the beginning of the end but I was still having a blast so I decided to go back the next year and I experienced it firsthand. Went from accidentally locking eyes with strangers and getting offered drugs to begging for a cigarette to the point of offering $5 and still getting denied. lol
The next year they did the two weekend thing and I decided I had seen enough. Funnily enough I only went both years for Julian Casablancas and The Strokes, respectively.

All I see is people complaining about Coachella every year. Maybe don’t go if it’s that bad. Like no one is forcing you to go. No one is forcing you to look at Coachella content if you don’t go. In fact I’d never know about it if it wasn’t for the constant complaining. Also if you’re part of the entertainment elite maybe stop whining and organize your own “better” festival.

I'm always perplexed at these opinions. He didn't just go find a microphone and start talking about it. These articles are 99% the result of someone asking the celebrity a question, on a podcast or interview or whatever, and they answered. It might have been as innocuous as "oh you went to Coachella? What did you think?" And then someone else made this click bait article.
Is he not allowed to have an opinion? Should he not do interviews where people ask him questions? Where exactly was the wrong doing here
6
ceej_22_Apr 23, 2026

Not even just talking about him. The negativity on Coachella is everywhere every year from anon Listnook comments to celebrities and when a celebrity answers a question the haters amplify it. It’s like the thing to do, go to Coachella and complain about it. Repeat the next year.
I don’t even know what it’s about but based on the internet I get the impression everyone hates it but somehow they keep selling tickets.
