Man, the memories of being in high-school in Scotland thinking we were hard as f*** listening to Afroman and smoking weed

reedsgrayhair Mar 26, 2026 +73
I remember on a trip to Europe some guy on a bus asked where in the US I was from, and I told him I grew up in Palmdale and he instantly started singing the Afroman song. It blew my f****** mind.

WeBackYeah Mar 27, 2026 +20
Afroman is such an anomaly, I swear almost everyone knows some songs/about him, but he's never had big mainstream popularity.
20
Attainted Mar 27, 2026 +23
It's because he only had like two memorable songs. They were good songs. But they were just two.
23
WeBackYeah Mar 27, 2026 +13
I'd say three big hits: Palmdale, Because I Got High, and Crazy Rap. But The Good Times was full of other bangers: She Won't Let Me F***, Tumbleweed, Let's All Get Drunk, Tall Cans, Mississippi were all on rotation with my friends back in the day.

The trial was wild. Worth a YouTube search. A police officer refused to say he didn’t think the guy had fucked his wife bc of defamation. 🤣🤣🤣
227
tacticalcraptical Mar 26, 2026 +161
The bit where the cop is basically required to say, in court, that he doesn't know if Afroman had sex with is wife or not in order to uphold his claim is one of the funniest things I've seen on the internet in a good while.
161
DaCanuck Mar 26, 2026 +66
He could have said "I don't believe my wife had sex with Afroman" and still stand by their case that Afroman was defaming them or ruining their reputation. It was funny because he didn't and instead replied with a bewildered and "I don't know!"
66
Useful_Homework2367 Mar 27, 2026 +23
Yeah he didn't have to say that he didn't know, but if he had agreed with the lawyer that "we all know" it's not true, it would hurt his case. If he had answered that he didn't believe it was true, the lawyer probably would have followed up with more questions to trip him up into agreeing that it was just obviously not true. His own lawyer would still need to prove that Afroman's claim in the song was false, so saying that he didn't know still hurt his case anyway. If it was true then there was no defamation, and he acknowledged that he doesn't know for sure that it isn't true.
23
DaCanuck Mar 27, 2026 +6
I suppose could see that. As in, admitting that you know it's "obviously not true" gets close to admitting you recognize it as a joke or satire.
6
Another-Mans-Rubarb Mar 27, 2026 +7
No, his uncertainty is what makes it not defamation. If he was sure his wife had not slept with aphroman and that aphroman was lying to defame him, that's his defense. His lawyer failed to coach him properly.
7
DucksEatFreeInSubway Mar 27, 2026 +2
Hope is wife kicks him to the curb for that.
2
JJiggy13 Mar 26, 2026 +36
He said he was with her since middle school, which for an Adams county police officer means 3rd grade.
36
BasicallyIDontWork Mar 27, 2026 +3
Can confirm, Adams County is a piece of a shit place. It isn't that far away from where the Pike County murders took place.

If I was officer Pound Cake, I would lean into it hard. Fix his gate and door for him for free so I can be in his videos. Start my own Pound Cake channel and have afroman cameos. All that after leaving the damn corrupted department of course. Now all at internet fame with no way to cash out.

Literally the only positive human news story in 2026. Afroman beating the police department’s defamation case while not backing down and being hilarious all throughout has been the only smile I’ve got from a headline this year.
292
rahah2023 Mar 27, 2026 +67
Absolutely hilarious when the cop claims he “couldn’t know if Afroman slept with his wife”… I spit out my wine and laughed so hard

Yea his wife can’t be happy about that. Assuming she was ever happy.
27

Ex-wife. They got divorced before the trial took place, and she was a witness for the defense. She stated (under oath) that the song was not related to the divorce.

I remember when I was in middle school, Afroman would routinely be at the Turtle Creek Mall selling that damn CD. Of course we all had a copy or two. It’s crazy to see him go viral all these years later. Hattiesburg legend. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s the hungry hustler Afro MAYNE…
71
Glignt Mar 26, 2026 +16
I'm gonna stop singing this song because I'm high (baby, oh) I'm singing this whole thing wrong because I'm high (yeah, bring it back, bring it back) And if I don't sell one copy, I know why (why? Man)

Canadian here from near Toronto. He was popular here, too. And popular out west when I went there, too, which means he probably got spread around Australia, too (Vancouver and Whistler are the northernmost parts of Australia).

I don't blame them if they don't know. I definitely had forgotten how violent it was. He seems kinda shitty with this and the maga support, but at the same time I love what he did in response to this raid on his house. You can appreciate something someone does without needing to see them as a good person.
11
DOWNVOTES_SYNDROME Mar 27, 2026 +9
oh absolutely. i appreciate any time someone sticks up for themselves against a militarized and unaccountable group of violent criminals like that. i just need people to stop saying "i like this one thing, therefore this guy is a hero!!"

ContextLengthMatters Mar 27, 2026 +9
He's playing the kid rocks festival too. There's a video you can watch of his where he basically says he's a politician/playa (cause politician is just the white PC way to say it according to him.) He very openly talks about being a grifter and how he's all for the Republican agenda outside of hating black people and that he will do business with anyone that helps his bottom line. The dude truly has no redeeming qualities outside of his shenanigans.
9
seanflyon Mar 26, 2026 +6
Did he actually vote for Trump? According to a quick search he says that he didn't vote for Trump and I can't find any source (other than reddit comments) claiming that he did or any show of public support.
6
somanysheep Mar 27, 2026 +16
The interview I seen he gave his support for Trump over trans bathroom issues. He's been on stage with Trump in that same flag suit shaking his hands.

Did he vote for Trump AFTER he was raided by the police? I feel there was some racial profiling going on there as well.

ebonyseraphim Mar 26, 2026 +5
It’s just music, art, opinion. I was the right age when “Because I Got High” blew up and didn’t care for it. I still don’t, but I can clearly see his music is what he intends for it to be and you take it or leave it. Why a particular song resonates with people or not, or if people are sticking with him right now because F the police is whatever. Just know that the unspoken understanding is that his music isn’t really going for Grammy’s or mass consumption. He’s seems extremely aware and accepting of that, and so is just about everyone else. His uptick isn’t getting to his head either. Listen to him on the stand: he knows why some of his stuff is getting more attention (the case/trial). Whatever, he’s a guy trying to get paid. He probably isn’t all that bad of a dude if he trusts his ex-wife, and she is willing to do some for him.

studhand Mar 26, 2026 +5
It's almost "outsider music". Gil Scott heron - rock and roll McDonald's sounds like it could be an Afroman song Edit: Wesley Willis, not Gil Scott heron. I get them mixed up, my bad.

Y’all think he is going to move? I can’t imagine what would happen if he has to call the cops for help.

the_knower02 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Good for him for standing up for free speech but Afroman seems like a huge douchebag honestly
1
KlostToMe Mar 26, 2026 +1
I hadn't heard Afroman's name in probably 15+ years and, to this day, wouldn't have if it weren't for this whole thing
1
No_Cantaloupe_2175 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Well deserved. Should never have happened but at least he's getting something positive from the ordeal.

That first cop on the stand. Dumb as a brick. They lost their suit with the first witness.

I was going to download and listen to all of Afroman's music...but I got high

adrach87 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Huh. I guess they are helping him repair his door. Somebody probably should have told them about the Barbra Streisand effect before they started this lawsuit.

SmashesIt Mar 26, 2026 +1
Striesanded the f*** out of those cops

Yep,  I only knew he'd done 2 songs about it before this trial.  Definite Streisand effect here.

Not gonna lie I was a little afraid to listen to it just in case those whinny little bitches tried to sue me too
1
Hoosier_Hootenanny Mar 26, 2026 +1
They should rename the Streissand Effect. I forgot Afroman existed until the lawsuit. And I never would have known the Adams County police were a bunch of unprofessional whiners if they hadn't sued. If they'd just laughed things off and apologized, it would have died down. Instead, they decided to become international laughingstocks.

F*** the POlice

bstring777 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Interesting signal for artists nowadays. Might just mirror something somewhat revolutionary from the 60s, but greedy and selfish instead of having a real goal. But makes sense for this day in age, unfortunately.

ZombieZookeeper Mar 26, 2026 +1
Lemon Pound Cake is a banger.

twotimefind Mar 26, 2026 +1
He's good to his fans. He hangs out after the shows, drinks and smokes with you. He's down IMO
