What's the point of digging out this movie out of obscurity just to throw shit at it?

They post articles on their website to generate discussion in r/movies? I don't think that's how it works

The more people comment on this thread, the more it appears to different people, which turns into clicks.

Probably just nostalgia clicks mixed with hot takes, some people love dragging old movies for fun.

With that attitude Mystery Science Theater 3000 wouldn't be a thing.

Yes, the movie is a bit of a mess and, as is Snyder’s fatal flaw, he got lost in the spectacle and his intended message was either lost or poorly put across, to the point of banality.
But even setting aside the question of *why* we need to drag this movie out of the Memory Hole for lack of a punching bag, when the article starts like this:
> Fifteen years ago, Zack Snyder set out to end geek culture sexism forever. He’d already made the ultimate male power fantasy in 300, adapted the unadaptable Watchmen, and brought to life The Owls Of Ga’Hoole to boot. Why couldn’t he be the one to finally solve the problem of hypersexualized female characters in the action genre?
It gives me zero faith that there will be anything worthwhile in the paragraphs below.
If the author needs to set up a straw man in order to take some shots *at Sucker Punch*, I doubt the criticism will be any less muddled or banal than the movie its trying to springboard off.

For me, this film asks the question: "Can you have a proper opinion of a movie that you turned off after half an hour?"

Movie isn't terrible but it's also not good. Asthetics are cool, I guess??

This movie suffers from the paradox of satire even more than Starship Troopers. The people who understood it was a deconstruction of sexism hated it because of how it exploited young women. The people who wanted to see young women exploited hated it because it called them out in a nasty way. The bottom line is that Snyder is a mediocre director who got lucky a couple of times. He didn't have the chops to pull off what he was going for with this one so almost no one actually likes the film.

I think he’s got great cinematic vision, he’s great with actors and crew, he’s got a lot of neat ideas and seems to be the consummate collaborator.
In that sense, he’s *kind of* a great director.
But he’s *not* a good storyteller, in that he loses focus and tries to have everything at once, which, when he doesn’t have guardrails like he did with Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen, can result in a messy or compromised final film.

No, sir.
But this is an absolutely trash movie. It’s only remembered for how bad it is. Points for audacity I guess.

Adam Qigley (RIP) made a [great video ](https://youtu.be/qQm1rBqh53Y?si=RVH8Ac6kvahWNRdJ) on this movie. I still though don't think it was anything great (the movie)
