It almost makes it look like you're implying American politicians will only act on financial incentives or the lack of it...

Can we take away their healthcare too?

Ive been saying for years that congress should get only the benefits that the basic public get. Minimum wage, medicare for health coverage, etc.

I think theres a strong case for their pay...but the pension and Healthcare benefits are absolutely unreasonable.

Or said a different way, they only start caring when it impacts them.

They should be on the No Fly list. And all the cabinet members too.

Good deals have been offered many times. Republicans aren't chasing anything.

IRONY: GOP say waiting in line to catch a plane is intolerable, but waiting in line to vote for 4+ hours is not a problem.

What exactly are those benefits that are given to members of Congress?

Priority boarding, less security scrutiny, probably access to private lounges and first class amenities without paying.

Members of Congress fly back their districts constantly and commercial air travel is the most efficient way to do it, but they wouldn’t dare mingle with their constituents in ^shudders Economy.

Screw it, take away their air travel and force them to take Amtrak. Maybe we'll see some more funding of rail in the US.

Why the US hasn't modernized nor develop a proper mass transit system for every individual to use reliably and affordably just boggles my kind.

The sad and quick answer is that the system isn't built to be affordable for every individual.

When Texas tried to build a modern high speed rail between DFW-Houston-Austin back in the late 90s- early 2000s under Rick Perry it was cancelled because Southwest threatened to cancel all routes and leave Texas completely

Eh I lived in DC until last year and flew a lot out of DCA, and work adjacent enough to politics that I recognize a lot of members of Congress. Seen them in economy more than a few times.
