We should end all aid, not just military. No more money for Israel. No more funding genocide
625
funk_addict Apr 3, 2026 +1
Those are OUR tax dollars going there, when we NEED that money at home.
1
thisisme1221 Apr 3, 2026 +1
It’s been spent at home, military aid to Israel is buying American weapons on behalf of Israel
1
mfkutlay Apr 3, 2026 +1
You could invest it to infrastructure and have the same effect in addition to having better …well infrastructure.
1
OldBridge87 Apr 3, 2026 +1
We send 0.1% of our annual defense budget to Israel, the idea that Israel aid is stopping us getting universal healthcare or free college or quality infrastructure is fact-free slopulism at best and borderline Nazi-ish antisemitism at worst.
1
an-invisible-hand Apr 3, 2026 +1
If we're buying weapons and not getting them but Israel is, the money is being spent on Israel.
1
Dee_Vidore Apr 3, 2026 +1
Yep. Your tax dollars have killed [edit: or injured] 50,000 children. https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/unimaginable-horrors-more-50000-children-reportedly-killed-or-injured-gaza-strip?utm_source=copilot.com
1
Ridry Apr 3, 2026 +1
The last estimate I heard from that conflict is 70,000, 20,000 of which are children.
1
CanaryRegular5487 Apr 3, 2026 +1
That's only confirmed casualties. Hundreds of thousands lie under the rubble.
1
_Administrator_ Apr 3, 2026 +1
That’s not true. Not even Hamas claims that.
1
SerfTint Apr 3, 2026 +1
The health ministry lost the ability to accurately count deaths less than a year into the slaughter. Many experts do estimate that the true number is in the hundreds of thousands. At one point Netanyahu spoke of a plan to migrate about 1.8 million Gazans from the region. There were generally believed to have been 2.2 to 2.3 million Gazans on October 7th.
1
SgtSlaughterEX Apr 3, 2026 +1
And I really don't have the ability to not clock in tomorrow. I hate that part of my time working is funding mass genocide and making me pay more for everything simultaneously while not being able to do anything about it.
1
_Administrator_ Apr 3, 2026 +1
Hamas has longer tunnels than the London subway system. But they don’t let kids in there. Also 50k is exaggerated. Hamas claims 65k dead people. This includes natural deaths.

FireTyme Apr 3, 2026 +1
so far daycare, TSA and recently food pantry’s have been stopped or scrapped. the cost of this ‘not a war’ could have paid all 3 for about ~3 years and counting

When our citizens have universal healthcare and free college, then we can talk about aid to countries with a higher standard of living than our own
1
AslanPahar Apr 3, 2026 +1
>When our citizens have universal healthcare and free college, then we can talk about aid to countries with a higher standard of living than our own My SIL had IVF done spent close to $35k. Another woman she talked to in the waiting room was from Israel and had her embryos transferred from Israel to USA and get it all done here all free because her insurance from Israel also provided funds to be covered in the USA. My SIL was seething because she's a veteran and her insurance wouldn't cover all of the process because her infertility wasn't "related" to the service, yet an Israeli living on American welfare can afford free IVF in both countries and to also think that some politicians wants to give the same benefits to IDF in the USA as well...... that's an absolutely f*** u to Americans.
1
Agreeable-Agent-7384 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Our tax dollars subsidize free healthcare and free college for Israel by basically making sure they don’t have to spend any of their tax money on their military. Let that sink in. We pay for so much of Israel’s expenses they get to have free healthcare and college while we’re robbed of those things more and more.
1
Dusty-Spiral Apr 3, 2026 +1
This BS statement sounds like it's against the right, but is actually supporting one of their key positions: The lie that you have to pick between military and social services. Israel spends a larger percentage of their government's budget / GDP on their military than the US\*\*, with US military aid being on top of what they're already spending. Let THAT sink in. They can manage free healthcare even while spending a larger percentage of their budget on military endeavors than we are. There is no either/or - the US being so far behind on such matters is pure, very intentional, mismanagement of our tax dollars. That's the long and short of it. \*\*Source: Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (This has nothing to do with with the funding we shouldn't be giving them, I would just like people to stop spreading this false idea that we can't have military if we have social services)
1
Pyju Apr 3, 2026 +1
Adding that the US *already* spends the MOST public taxpayer dollars per capita on healthcare of ***any country in the world***, despite obviously not having universal healthcare on top of the worst care accessibility metrics and worst health outcomes of any developed country. Never let anyone tell you universal healthcare is too expensive, because it is far more EFFICIENT than the current for-profit, privatized system filled with administrative bloat and countless middlemen who all want their cut. Meaning that US taxpayers would in fact SAVE money if we went to a single-payer universal system.
1
escapefromelba Apr 3, 2026 +1
There are other countries with universal healthcare that have a similar mix of non-profit, public, and for-profit care - the difference is they regulate pricing.  In Japan or Germany, if you have a broken arm, the hospital gets paid X regardless of which insurance company is paying. In the US, every insurance company negotiates its own private "discounted" rate with every hospital, creating a chaotic web of prices where one person pays $500 and another pays $5,000 for the same X-ray.
1
protomenace Apr 3, 2026 +1
This is completely false. Look at the amount of US aid to Israel, and look at their government budget (both are freely available). They spend significantly more on both than what the US sends them. And the money we send them would certainly not be enough to pay for our own healthcare. They spend plenty of money on both healthcare and military.
1
Sideshow-Bob-Ross Apr 3, 2026 +1
They're basically charging us protection racket money to not nuke their neighbors.
1
carlboykin Apr 3, 2026 +1
But how else will the taxes I pay not in any way represent or help me or any other American?

Day late and a dollar short. I liked AOC but she really screwed the pooch when it came to Israel. *Now* she opposes all military aid to Israel? The genocide they were committing wasn’t enough? Or had to wait until she was certain it would play in the polls?
1
WowChillTheFuckOut Apr 3, 2026 +1
She had one dog shit vote on an amendment to a bill which she ultimately voted against. There's never been a bill to send weapons to Israel that she's voted in favor of because they all included "offensive" weapons. I don't like how she voted on that one amendment, but now she's improved her position and she is among the best lawmakers in Congress. It may not be a high bar, but she's not a villain.
1
AfterCatch1930 Apr 3, 2026 +1
That's precisely the reason. Its unfavorable *now* because of the sudden rise of anti-Israel sentiment so they have to pretend to be against this war. I keep saying this the only reason Democrats are against this war is because Trump didn't sell it convincingly like Bush or Obama or Biden. He should've done a consistent WMD approach like Bush or "beheaded babies" like Biden. (Obama did it for the love of the game discretely while keeping a charismatic facade) Democrats were using double speak at the start of the war and now their tone has shifted. Same with the European allies. They were strong supporters of the invasion of Iran but now they have to oppose it.
1
blazesquall Apr 3, 2026 +1
They'll "oppose" it.. but not rein in any of the mechanisms used to do it, materially investigate anything related to it (boat strikes, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, etc.), and then fund all the replacement munitions / upgrades / repairs / expansions.. It's just tacit approval with a finger wag.

every right wing media will say that no matter who wins if its a democrat
26
BarkerBarkhan Apr 3, 2026 +14
That's right! It doesn't matter who they run, the narrative will be the same. What matters is the narrative that the Democrats can produce and promote. AOC has a great narrative and she has been consistent in her values. She's incredibly media-savvy, relatable to many different people, and seems to be a genuinely kind, funny person on an individual level. She has also done an excellent job of balancing her work within the Democratic system and her work to completely transform it.
14
crowhops Apr 3, 2026 +14
They would paint literally any dem as a radical commie leftist regardless so I really really need the "threat" of it to stop being an excuse as to why we need to run milquetoast lame-asses
14
jpastrychef Apr 3, 2026 +1
They already say these things about all Dems. So, not that they would, they do, every single day over and over and people wonder why we're divided? Because if your fed lies long enough people believe them. The 1st amendment guarantees them the right to say anything they want without consequence.
1

Unfortunately, there are too many of those in the Democratic coalition for her to actually do it.
1
Tall-Firefighter-904 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Honestly her coming out against Israel will probably pull a lot of MAGAts out of their TDS stupor.
1
svrtngr Apr 3, 2026 +21
She's been making moves that show she's at least considering it.
21
Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Apr 3, 2026 +12
I doubt this time. Unfortunately the political climate is too hostile and the smear campaigns against her have worked too well. She would have a hard time getting swing voters because she has been painted as a radical.
12
ToastCapone Apr 3, 2026 +22
Maybe but they paint every and any candidate as a radical though. It’s just becoming white noise at this point. They called Biden a commie, lol.
22
Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Apr 3, 2026 +3
While you may not think it matters, people really do see that stuff and vote a certain way because of it. Sounds dumb but here we are 😬
3
ToastCapone Apr 3, 2026 +7
Ehh, it goes both ways. Everyone thought Trump was too radical, insane, dumb or all 3 yet here we are. Voters want populism. That much is clear.
7
zubbs99 Apr 3, 2026 +3
I would agree except I wonder if Trump has broken norms so much that maybe a term like 'radical' won't scare off as many centrists as before. I mean the Dems really need to prosecute the case against the GOP that they themselves have been campaigning and governing as radicals already.
3
evanwilliams44 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I think she will run in the primary at least. No reason not to, unless she is playing a very long game. It would be valuable experience and who knows what could happen. It's probably going to be total chaos.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 3, 2026 +1
The existence of Donald Trump continues to make these dumbass centrist takes look hilarious, plus the fact that polling showed Sanders beating Trump a decade ago. She’s already one of the most popular politicians in America and has higher favorability ratings than basically anyone in Congress not named Bernie. This is despite her own party fighter her constantly and refusing to let her shine.
1
Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I dont see how that is centrist. She is one of the most popular online but the average voter is the one that needs convincing.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Do you think these professional pollsters only poll people online?
1
Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Apr 3, 2026 +1
No, not at all.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 3, 2026 +1
It’s because centrists are the only people dumb enough to still fall for that hilarious logic despite over a decade of Trump
1
zernoc56 Apr 3, 2026 +1
They, meaning conservative media (aka most republicans’ entire political thought process) would paint anyone the Democratic party put forward as a radical commie. The only way they wouldn’t is if the Dem candidate was literally to *right* of *Hitler himself*. So, f*** it, run the actual radical progressive, at least then it’d show the party still has a f****** spine.
1
ahkian Apr 3, 2026 +11
I would love it. I just don’t know if she can win the general election. We haven’t had a great track record with women being the Democratic nominee. Though AOC is way more charismatic than Clinton or Harris so maybe there’s a chance.
11
BarkerBarkhan Apr 3, 2026 +17
There is a sample size of 2. Clinton did win the popular vote by 2 points and millions of votes. Harris failed, but she was set-up to fail; also, "Bidenomics" as a brand did her no favors. Maybe folks will recognize what an absolute disaster Republican governance has been and vote for someone like AOC. She absolutely is so much more real than Clinton or Harris, and that's what people want. When people talk about appealing to the mythical center, I think they underestimating how much politics is defined not by policy, but by vibes, and the AOC vibes are excellent.
17
ExpressDog4526 Apr 3, 2026 +10
When it came to Harris, honestly you have to take in account how little time she really had to run. Add the racism and sexism on top of that. She honestly did really really f****** well with the time she had.
10
BarkerBarkhan Apr 3, 2026 +4
That's it, she was set-up to fail... and she still almost succeeded!
4
def_indiff Apr 3, 2026 +6
She's 36, so she qualifies. Let's go! (I'd like her chances better if she did a stint as Speaker of the House or as a Senator first, but if she runs she's got my vote.)
6
Moccus Apr 3, 2026 +2
Speaker of the House isn't traditionally a good path to the presidency.

1
Vegetable-Error-2068 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Neither was being an actor (Reagan) or a reality TV host moocher (Trump). I don't care what someone did anymore. I care about whether they actually want to do good things and have the spine to do it. AOC is that.
1
Ridry Apr 3, 2026 +1
At this point being a celebrity is absolutely a path for a Republican.
1

4
PhoenixTineldyer Apr 3, 2026 +2
Israel, obviously. The very core of their beliefs is the supremacy of white men.
2
Vegetable-Error-2068 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Democrats give the presidency to Republicans every time they run a centrist who excites no one and falls over themselves to placate Republicans. AOC is not that.
1
heroman3 Apr 3, 2026 +2
At this point Republicans are exceeding my expectations on how shit they can be so I wouldn't be surprised if a woman won the presidency. Honestly Bernie should try to do one last run as president if he can and AOC as his vp so when Bernie dies in office she will become president. That way we finally would get a woman president.
2
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 3, 2026 +1
No that would be running another value-less , do nothing centrist would do
1
nowhereman136 Apr 3, 2026 +1
She should take Schumers seat in the senate. That would do more good than staying where she is and set her up nicely to run a serious campaign in 2032 or 2036

18
papaHans Apr 3, 2026 +1
So why doesn't Israel just pay for it?
1
DaemonG Apr 3, 2026 +1
The funny answer is, they do. Israel spends a significantly greater percentage of its GDP on defense than the percent the US spends on its own. A lot of the issues the US has with budget aren't entirely down to amount, but also mismanagement and bloat. Like, the South African technocrat nazi was *almost* onto something when he said the US government needs stuff rearranged for efficiency. He just so happened to see it as an excuse to fire career civil servants, instead of looking at the black hole of corporate subsidies that leaves us spending more, per capita, on healthcare than any of our peers. But for the record: yeah. With the exception of Iron Dome and other interceptors, I'm pretty much against military aid for the foreseeable future.
1
dooooonut Apr 3, 2026 +1
I think Americans were ok with funding Isreals Iron Dome when the perception of Israel was that it was an ally that needed help. The last 2+ years have made people realise that Isreal is not America's ally, people have seen through the public face to understand it's a genocidal country that is stealing land and starting wars. A wealthy country with a higher standard of life that America And they don't want to be responsible for it any more
1
Spartyjason Apr 3, 2026 +1
How do you feel when you see Israelis celebrating the death of Palestinian children? Since, as they say, there are no innocent Palestinians?

Lebanon probably should’ve enforced the ceasefire and disarmed Hezbollah If that was too much, hezbollah probably should’ve learned a lesson from getting absolutely destroyed in a war they started.
1
Only-Physics-1193 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Hezballah joined after Israel bombed Iran and constantly violated ceasefire in Lebanon.
1
Jermainiam Apr 3, 2026 +1
Hezbollah launching rockets from and fighting in the area below the Litani river right now is proof that Hezbollah and Lebanon did not follow through on their part of the cease-fire agreement. They were supposed to disarm and remove all Hezbollah from that region. The Israeli "violations" of the cease-fire were against Hezbollah still in the region. Ita kinda hard to claim that Israel was "violating" the cease-fire and launching strikes for no reason when Hezbollah is literally still there right now. You can't call a cease-fire and then keep doing hostile things and then claim that the other side is violating the agreement when they react. Why is Hezbollah still there? How could Hezbollah launch attacks from the border if they/Lebanon was following the cease-fire?
1
Only-Physics-1193 Apr 3, 2026 +1
All your rambling aside - Israel violated Ceasefire and Hezbollah didn't initiate any fire. Only so much of Phsycopathic aggression can be taken.

Love to see it. Stop funding Israel, hold lawbreakers to account, and universal healthcare. Dems would easily win if they would just get rid of the old guard and actually build a platform instead of just trying to be the least offensive option. Most Americans are at a point now where we are historically ready for someone to actually stand up and fight for things we care about.

I know there's been some people who were upset that she ever did support military aid to Israel, but remember that people's views can change and evolve. People can, in fact, learn from mistakes. That should be applauded, not judged.

1
cozy_gremlin Apr 3, 2026 +1
“I have not once ever voted to authorize funding to Israel, and I will never,” Ocasio-Cortez said in response to a question about whether she would support an arms embargo. “The Israeli government should be able to finance their own weapons if they seek to arm themselves,” she added. [At DSA forum, AOC pledges not to vote for any military aid to Israel](https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2026/04/dsa-forum-aoc-pledges-not-vote-any-military-aid-israel/412544/)

This is not a brave position to take. This is the opinion of the average American. Our political elite class has been corrupted by bribe money and we obfuscate it behind "PACS".  They do not even attempt to represent the constituents who vote them into power.  Every action can be directly drawn to a monetary donation from a nameless PAC that funnels money from one of the 12 wealthiest families in the world into a charade of controlled opposition vs unapologetically evil.

She’s years too late on this. She’s the best mainstream progressive we have but good lord.

Also end our military relationships with Egypt, KSA, and the UAE. Is it any surprise all three nations are good friends with Israel, war crimes and crimes against humanity is all their governments do. No more tax dollars to murderous regimes and their wars, use it to improve the lives of Americans. And end all the protection at the UNSC we give them.

She would never get elected in a national election because a national election would require her to win votes from some of the most racist, misogynistic places on the planet.
-2
GeshtiannaSG Apr 3, 2026 +6
Those people are enough to stop her only because too many are too disillusioned to vote at all. But of course the 2 parties are just going to fight each other as always and pretend this large group of people who have given up on voting doesn’t exist.

Sea-Entrepreneur2372 Apr 3, 2026 +1
"win votes from some of the most racist, misogynistic places on the planet." Yes, you are correct in saying she would never win an election because people are too misogynistic. Democrats say a woman can't win an election because they put forward the 2 worst candidates possible in previous elections and lost. H******* Dems seem to attribute this to their gender and not their horrible performance as candidates (despite the fact even despite how horrible they were, Hillary STILL almost won), and this blatant misogyny does mean she would never win the primary. All despite the fact she would likely win the general. People seem to love pointing to Biden as an example of how "a white man can win!" except he won by extremely thin margins. Against the candidate who just killed millions of people by mishandling covid, Biden still almost lost. The issue is the platform and messaging, not the candidates gender. For aslong as you attribute the Dems losses to gender or race, you will continue to lose. They will never improve.
1
GoggleDMara9756 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Racism and misogyny isn’t why Trump won, it was a factor, but not the primary one. Every single poll talked about the economy as a top issue, something progressives are very strong on

It's a scam. The US gives military aid to Israel who themselves are the world's 9th largest exporter of weapons. Israel pockets the difference in cash.
1
DrScience01 Apr 3, 2026 +1
She didn't before?
1
NexexUmbraRs Apr 3, 2026 +1
I agree, the US should not give military aid to any country. Nor any aid. And Israel shouldn't listen to the US, because the amount they give is negligible.
1

Israel deserves nothing. They have destroyed our government.

AOC is the only presidential candidate that excites people right now. Democrats can choose to listen or lose. And I know that they'll likely choose to lose.

I really dont understand what we get from them.
1

*You* get nothing except higher taxes. Political *candidates* who support them get funding & extra support through AIPAC & affiliates. ...which leads to more *policymakers* who support funding them. ...which leads to more funding for *candidates* who support them. ...which leads to more *policymakers* who support funding them. ...which leads to more funding for *candidates* who support them. ...which leads to... ...etc. Your tax dollars at work.

Don't really understand her justification for not doing this in the first place. Her funding the Iron Dome and other "dEfEnSiVe sYsTeMs 🤪" has really lowered my opinion of her.
1

She never funded defensive systems or the iron dome

Pretty sure AIPAC is just a money laundering scheme. Officials vote to send money to Israel and they send it back to officials to vote for them and get the money back in their pockets. Just saying

2 and a half years after a live streamed genocide. A position she knew was righteous yet refused to do until now that she found it politically expedient. Not a leader.
