We send 0.1% of our annual defense budget to Israel, the idea that Israel aid is stopping us getting universal healthcare or free college or quality infrastructure is fact-free slopulism at best and borderline Nazi-ish antisemitism at worst.

The health ministry lost the ability to accurately count deaths less than a year into the slaughter. Many experts do estimate that the true number is in the hundreds of thousands. >When our citizens have universal healthcare and free college, then we can talk about aid to countries with a higher standard of living than our own
My SIL had IVF done spent close to $35k. Another woman she talked to in the waiting room was from Israel and had her embryos transferred from Israel to USA and get it all done here all free because her insurance from Israel also provided funds to be covered in the USA.
My SIL was seething because she's a veteran and her insurance wouldn't cover all of the process because her infertility wasn't "related" to the service, yet an Israeli living on American welfare can afford free IVF in both countries and to also think that some politicians wants to give the same benefits to IDF in the USA as well...... that's an absolutely f*** u to Americans.

Our tax dollars subsidize free healthcare and free college for Israel by basically making sure they don’t have to spend any of their tax money on their military. Let that sink in. We pay for so much of Israel’s expenses they get to have free healthcare and college while we’re robbed of those things more and more.

This BS statement sounds like it's against the right, but is actually supporting one of their key positions: The lie that you have to pick between military and social services.
Israel spends a larger percentage of their government's budget / GDP on their military than the US\*\*, with US military aid being on top of what they're already spending. Let THAT sink in. They can manage free healthcare even while spending a larger percentage of their budget on military endeavors than we are.
There is no either/or - the US being so far behind on such matters is pure, very intentional, mismanagement of our tax dollars. That's the long and short of it.
\*\*Source: Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
(This has nothing to do with with the funding we shouldn't be giving them, I would just like people to stop spreading this false idea that we can't have military if we have social services)

Adding that the US *already* spends the MOST public taxpayer dollars per capita on healthcare of ***any country in the world***, despite obviously not having universal healthcare on top of the worst care accessibility metrics and worst health outcomes of any developed country.
Never let anyone tell you universal healthcare is too expensive, because it is far more EFFICIENT than the current for-profit, privatized system filled with administrative bloat and countless middlemen who all want their cut. Meaning that US taxpayers would in fact SAVE money if we went to a single-payer universal system.
1
escapefromelbaApr 3, 2026
+1
There are other countries with universal healthcare that have a similar mix of non-profit, public, and for-profit care - the difference is they regulate pricing.
In Japan or Germany, if you have a broken arm, the hospital gets paid X regardless of which insurance company is paying. In the US, every insurance company negotiates its own private "discounted" rate with every hospital, creating a chaotic web of prices where one person pays $500 and another pays $5,000 for the same X-ray.
1
protomenaceApr 3, 2026

This is completely false. Look at the amount of US aid to Israel, and look at their government budget (both are freely available). They spend significantly more on both than what the US sends them. And the money we send them would certainly not be enough to pay for our own healthcare. They spend plenty of money on both healthcare and military.

She had one dog shit vote on an amendment to a bill which she ultimately voted against. There's never been a bill to send weapons to Israel that she's voted in favor of because they all included "offensive" weapons. I don't like how she voted on that one amendment, but now she's improved her position and she is among the best lawmakers in Congress. It may not be a high bar, but she's not a villain.

That's precisely the reason. Its unfavorable *now* because of the sudden rise of anti-Israel sentiment so they have to pretend to be against this war.
I keep saying this the only reason Democrats are against this war is because Trump didn't sell it convincingly like Bush or Obama or Biden. He should've done a consistent WMD approach like Bush or "beheaded babies" like Biden. (Obama did it for the love of the game discretely while keeping a charismatic facade)
Democrats were using double speak at the start of the war and now their tone has shifted. Same with the European allies. They were strong supporters of the invasion of Iran but now they have to oppose it.
1
blazesquallApr 3, 2026

They'll "oppose" it.. but not rein in any of the mechanisms used to do it, materially investigate anything related to it (boat strikes, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, etc.), and then fund all the replacement munitions / upgrades / repairs / expansions..
It's just tacit approval with a finger wag.

There is a sample size of 2. Clinton did win the popular vote by 2 points and millions of votes. Harris failed, but she was set-up to fail; also, "Bidenomics" as a brand did her no favors.

The funny answer is, they do. Israel spends a significantly greater percentage of its GDP on defense than the percent the US spends on its own. A lot of the issues the US has with budget aren't entirely down to amount, but also mismanagement and bloat.
Like, the South African technocrat nazi was *almost* onto something when he said the US government needs stuff rearranged for efficiency. He just so happened to see it as an excuse to fire career civil servants, instead of looking at the black hole of corporate subsidies that leaves us spending more, per capita, on healthcare than any of our peers.
But for the record: yeah. With the exception of Iron Dome and other interceptors, I'm pretty much against military aid for the foreseeable future.

Hezbollah launching rockets from and fighting in the area below the Litani river right now is proof that Hezbollah and Lebanon did not follow through on their part of the cease-fire agreement. They were supposed to disarm and remove all Hezbollah from that region. The Israeli "violations" of the cease-fire were against Hezbollah still in the region. Ita kinda hard to claim that Israel was "violating" the cease-fire and launching strikes for no reason when Hezbollah is literally still there right now.
You can't call a cease-fire and then keep doing hostile things and then claim that the other side is violating the agreement when they react.
Why is Hezbollah still there? How could Hezbollah launch attacks from the border if they/Lebanon was following the cease-fire?

Also end our military relationships with Egypt, KSA, and the UAE. Is it any surprise all three nations are good friends with Israel, war crimes and crimes against humanity is all their governments do. No more tax dollars to murderous regimes and their wars, use it to improve the lives of Americans. And end all the protection at the UNSC we give them.

She would never get elected in a national election because a national election would require her to win votes from some of the most racist, misogynistic places on the planet.

Those people are enough to stop her only because too many are too disillusioned to vote at all. But of course the 2 parties are just going to fight each other as always and pretend this large group of people who have given up on voting doesn’t exist.

"win votes from some of the most racist, misogynistic places on the planet."
Yes, you are correct in saying she would never win an election because people are too misogynistic. Democrats say a woman can't win an election because they put forward the 2 worst candidates possible in previous elections and lost. H******* Dems seem to attribute this to their gender and not their horrible performance as candidates (despite the fact even despite how horrible they were, Hillary STILL almost won), and this blatant misogyny does mean she would never win the primary. All despite the fact she would likely win the general.
People seem to love pointing to Biden as an example of how "a white man can win!" except he won by extremely thin margins. Against the candidate who just killed millions of people by mishandling covid, Biden still almost lost. The issue is the platform and messaging, not the candidates gender.
For aslong as you attribute the Dems losses to gender or race, you will continue to lose. They will never improve.

Racism and misogyny isn’t why Trump won, it was a factor, but not the primary one. Every single poll talked about the economy as a top issue, something progressives are very strong on

It's a scam. The US gives military aid to Israel who themselves are the world's 9th largest exporter of weapons. Israel pockets the difference in cash.

I agree, the US should not give military aid to any country. Nor any aid.
And Israel shouldn't listen to the US, because the amount they give is negligible.

...which leads to more *policymakers* who support funding them.
...which leads to more funding for *candidates* who support them.
