Jeez, it was known that he was working on an animation but I didn’t expect it to seem so… family friendly. Btw, the guy who’s collaborating with Bong on the screenplay is Jason Yu, the director of Sleep (2023), which is an excellent thriller. Highly recommended.

Just a reminder who produced Babe and who directed Babe , anf the Happy Feet movies.

> who directed Babe Chris Noonan? I don't really see how that's relevant to anything, his body of work isn't exactly robust or shocking in any way. I guess he did that movie on Beatrix Potter with Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, but that wasn't much of a departure from Babe.

Think they meant wrote babe/directed happy feet.

TARMAN!?!?!

That would still be Chris Noonan, he wrote Babe with George Miller. What he meant was Babe 2: Pig in the City, which was directed, written, and produced by George Miller. But given Babe 2 was a pretty terrible movie, most people probably try to avoid mentioning it.

SatanIsYourBuddy Apr 2, 2026 +12
Right, but Miller \*did\* write it with him, and directed Happy Feet. What I said made perfect sense, this is just splitting hairs.

That's great, but I wasn't responding to you. I was responding to the guy who implied George Miller directed Babe, which is incorrect. He directed Babe 2. You replied that you think the other guy meant "wrote Babe". Which is fine, he cowrote it. But that's not what the other guy said, he typed out "directed". George Miller didn't direct Babe. He directed (and produced) Babe 2. Wouldn't you say it makes more sense that guy confused the two movies? Instead of you, an entirely different person, changing what he wrote to make it right?

Is it actually family-friendly, or is it like [the upcoming *Animal Farm* film](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNRRnJV51IE) being initially marketed as if a regular children’s film?

International-Sky65 Apr 2, 2026 +78
The upcoming Animal Farm film has already released and it is a children’s film. It’s a horrible adaptation that trades any meaning for phoned in fart jokes.

Easy-Tigger Apr 2, 2026 +30
Do we *know* how Orwell felt about fart jokes?

ScramItVancity Apr 2, 2026 +15
Adapted by Nicolas Stoller, which is funny because it felt like what the fictional Kool Aid movie was in The Studio when he played a fictional version of himself.

My local independent has it right now. I don’t intend on even giving it a shot.

The director-provided synopsis does describe it as a family adventure, so I suppose that’s simply what it is. Also, if I remember correctly, it was funded almost entirely with South Korean money, and as the most expensive locally produced film ever made, I doubt it’s pulling a bait-and-switch. Would be pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong though.

To be fair the upcoming animal farm IS a children’s film, that entirely misses the point of the original book so much so that it almost seems like anti-Orwell propaganda

Oh shit I loved Sleep. This is upping my interest for sure.

Bong Joon Ho always trying something new, massive respect to the guy. He's made two of the finest movies of all time, so I will always check his shit out.

Now I'm curious. What are the two? I haven't seen all of his movies but I really liked Parasite, Memories of Murder, The Host and Mother.

Typical-Blackberry-3 Apr 2, 2026 +8
The first two. Host and Mother are good as well.

I also thought Okja was amazing. So if this comes close it'd be awesome to see

**“Parasite"** Oscar w***** Bong Joon Ho unveils his debut animated feature "Ally," which is eyeing a 2027 theatrical release. > **The story centers on** a piglet squid named Ally who inhabits the little-explored depths of the South Pacific Ocean, harboring ambitions of reaching the surface and one day featuring in a wildlife documentary. Her world is upended when an aircraft goes down into the sea, setting her on an unlikely journey upward alongside a mismatched group of companions.

Bong doing animation was already enough for me, but that first image makes this feel even weirder and more exciting. 2027 cannot come soon enough.

I really liked Bong's first steps into work with animated elements on Okja, so I'm open towards a fully animated film from him, & I won't be surprised if he's capable of going full prime Pixar in building the emotional feel with this (which makes it perfect that someone on his team for this movie worked on several Pixar films).

Why did I think he was working on a movie about the Korean subway system? Did I totally make that up?

It's a Goodra.

Morphchalice Apr 2, 2026 +3
This is the film he said he was going to do before he does his horror movie that John Carpenter agreed to do the music for right?
3
Only-Chicken-6345 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Probably, but Marco Beltrami is doing the music. I was looking forward to Carpenter so it's a shame, but I'm still going to watch this when it comes out

Rexskel Apr 2, 2026 +2
That’s a Goodra

If John Carpenter does the score for this I will be so happy.
