Truly peak comedy and satire. Their latest season was okay but man do I miss their prime episodes from back in the day. The console wars and WoW episodes are forever in my heart.

This seems to be the way of newer South Park. I remember people HATED the season where South Park gets a Whole Foods and there’s sentient ads, I think it’s the one right before the trump garrison one. Looking back though I genuinely think it’s one of the best in the show, and it’s actually insane how much shit they covered, long before even mainstream media was covering it. Self aware ads that disguise themselves as content, the gentrification and pricing out happening in low income neighborhoods, PC/woke culture too which it feels like people are still fighting about today. Makes me wonder if the newer South Park seasons are actually bad or if people will look back on them as masterpieces lol.

Yeah it's been the one show that I have followed religiously - watching every new episode immediately - since season 1 aired when I was definitely younger than most would deem it was appropriate to watch. Would have been 11 or 12 iirc.. 39 now.
Sure, it's gone through changes and had ups and downs. I get why some didn't like the change from purely episodic to ongoing arcs.
Pretty much every season had haters talking about how previous seasons were better. Rinse and repeat every season.
IMO the worst south park episodes are still much better than most other even good shows. But it's all subjective, I just love Matt and treys comedy even if it's on things I don't agree with. Orgazmo and baseketball are gold too.
I just want a parker/stone and hammer/publick Collab. Venture bros are my other goats, just didn't literally grow up on it and there's much less of it than SP
Your post made me think more about their ads episodes. At the time it felt topical, now it feels ahead of its time. Ads went from trying to be hidden to just being false. The amount of shorts I've seen that are pure "hey look at my handmade thing you should buy it!" and not hiding that it's an ad.. but actually hiding that the person in the sort isn't real.
The fake person is the ad.. hidden inside an ad..

I was one of those haters talking about how the older seasons were better. I still kinda liked the continuity and trying new things. Now looking back in hindsight, again they're ahead of their time.

The reason we don't find the new stuff funny isn't because of their execution. It's because the material they're making fun of has gone from "Yeah, that 'insert cultural event here' sure is wacky!" to "Man, 'insert cultural event here' is actually f****** my psyche/life up."
Their jokes are the same it's just our lives have gotten worse. Before, our living climate wasn't so bad so the jokes were just.. jokes.
