If it's a show where people run, jump and throw things against bigger, stronger and faster people than them, it'll be a blast. If it's 10 minutes of human interest b-roll on the contestants and snippets of the competition it'll suck.
166
McFlyyouBojo Mar 18, 2026 +45
Yeah I hate that human interest c***. Give us a brief background run down and let's move to the good stuff
45
powerlesshero111 Mar 18, 2026 +52
That's the whole reason i hate Ninja Warrior. The Japanese version, just run the people through, the American version, 10 minutes of backstory that no one cares about, and 38 second of them doing the course and failing.
52
AmySchumersAnalTumor Mar 18, 2026 +28
And it kept getting worse with each season. "While we were on break, that guy you know from every last season had his run, he fell, tune in next year for him. Now, heres 15 minutes about a single mom that has diabetes and lives in a car and lost custody of her kids! Lets talk about her for 10 minutes until the next commercial break"
28
sybrwookie Mar 18, 2026 +6
Yea, I could deal with fast-forwarding through a lot of it at first, but once they hit the point where the people who were actually really good before, but had less interesting stories were fast-forwarded for "this lady just finished chemo 15 mins ago, here's 10 mins on her, now lets see how she do-....oh, she fell within 3 seconds", I was out. Also didn't help when the best athlete they had was found to be trafficking underage girls across state lines to SA behind the warped wall.
6
AmySchumersAnalTumor Mar 18, 2026 +4
Yeah... I think that came to light shortly after we already stopped watching luckily

LMBH1234182 Mar 18, 2026 +4
It’s on at the allergist office every week when I go for my shot, and it’s crazy how they’ll show a whole background video for someone and then they fall immediately lmao
4
ScottyThompson Mar 18, 2026 +3
Am I crazy or do I remember there being a Japanese ninja warrior episode where everyone failed on the first course and they were just like, well, we’ll see yall next year. And that was that.
3
Eternlgladiator Mar 18, 2026 +4
I do too but the difference is the old American gladiators was basically like wrestling with “characters” where ninja is supposed to be “normal” people. But yeah it’s a slog.
4
verrius Mar 18, 2026 +8
Sort of. The Gladiators were supposed to be "characters", but the contestants were still supposed to be normal people. And I could be wrong, but it was set up to be an actual competition, rather than scripted content like wrestling.
8
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Yeah. In the current UK version, Legend got injured. But he's one of the more popular (in a love to hate way) and best characters, so they have him appear in skits between some of the events. Normally, he'd be bragging about how good he is when he wins an event, or making excuses when he loses. How much of that is ad libbed by Matt Morsia, the guy playing Legend, and how much is actually scripted, I don't know. But the events certainly aren't fixed.
2
TheMurderCapitalist Mar 19, 2026 +1
Dude is legit so funny, they were smart to keep him doing these skits while he's injured. He's half the appeal of the show for me
1
georgecm12 Mar 19, 2026 +1
It was. American Gladiators is, at it's core, still a game show. The contestants are regular game show contestants, and because it's a game show, it falls under the rules that say that while they can edit the show, they cannot script or edit the outcome of the competition.
1
Blochamolesauce Mar 18, 2026 +25
The NBC reboot from 07-08 had so much potential, but they took away everything that made the late 80’s-early 90’s run so great. I just wanna see roided out body builders and ex college football players shoot tennis balls and have Q-tip fights against quasi-athletic to relatively athletic average joes for cash and prizes. Is that asking too much?!?! 😂😂
25
qb1120 Mar 18, 2026 +3
My goodness, that reboot was such a disappointment. I'm so glad we had DVR because it was 80% commercials and filler
3
penguinopph Mar 19, 2026 +2
My friend's brother was on that one. We worked together at Geek Squad, so all of us set up an open box TV and antenna on the counter at we could watch it at work.
2
MayorofTromaville Mar 19, 2026 +2
We turned it into a drinking game where every time they showed fire, Hulk Hogan said brother, and they cut to the contestants' families, we would take a drink. Made the show much more exciting... but I can't tell you shit about a single episode.
2
Blochamolesauce Mar 19, 2026 +1
My condolences to your liver 😂
1
georgecm12 Mar 18, 2026 +13
Agreed. I wish they'd go back to how the original was, and shoot it like a sporting event with a professional PxP announcer and color commentator. A little disappointed to see that they're doing the stupid thing like the last reboot and using a wrestler as host. As far as the b-roll thing, If the announcers want to mention a fact about the contestant that might make them more interesting, likeable, etc. as an off-hand comment, then fine, but don't cut to a "heart-tugging" 10 minute segment on the contestant. Also, don't go overboard with the concert-style lighting. Just make it feel like an arena sporting event.
13
natedoggcata Mar 18, 2026 +7
The thing about the original American Gladiators is they would have a portion of the show dedicated to the contestants struggles, sob stories, personal lives etc... but those segments were about 30 seconds long and intercut between events as sort of an intermission. Not 10 minute mini documentaries like they do on American Ninja Warrior now.
7
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +1
The current UK version has Guy Mowbray as commentator and Mark Clattenberg as referee. Both are known for doing the same job in soccer. The presenters are an established game show host (Bradley Walsh) and his son Barney (who was only known for a travelogue series they did together, Breaking Dad). The original 90s version was hosted by an ex-weather presenter and an ex-soccer player.
1
Agile_Land_9951 Mar 18, 2026 +4
Battle Dome was my favorite. 6’10 beefy monster dude against 5’8 athlete.
4
m_Pony Mar 18, 2026 +3
Clydesdale vs Thoroughbred
3
Agile_Land_9951 Mar 18, 2026
Yessss
0
LazloHollifeld Mar 18, 2026 +8
You can blame NBC Sports and D*** Ebersol for that. Apparently he thinks that the back story is more interesting than the sport itself. I’m all for a feel good sports story, but not every person needs to have one especially if they don’t have one to begin with.
8
Silverward Mar 18, 2026 +3
It’s pretty easy to fill time to the next commercial if you have someone tell their life story over b-roll of them playing with a dog
3
LazloHollifeld Mar 18, 2026 +4
Yeah but not everyone has a backstory that is worth telling. Especially if you’re about to flame out two minutes later.
4
BigLan2 Mar 18, 2026 +3
I think it's the same production that's been running in the UK for a couple years now. They usually start with a couple minutes introducing each contestant and then into 4 or 5 events followed by the "eliminator" obstacle course. They'll have a quick reaction interview after events, and sometimes the gladiators will be included to gloat or just add some character. It's been decent, though they've had some terrible contestants. The gladiators are a decent bunch and play their characters well.
3
smurfsundermybed Mar 18, 2026 +2
They'll definitely do the human interest bit, but that will be followed up by getting shot at with tennis ball cannons and beaten up by roided out men and women.
2
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Tennis ball cannons? That sounds like Danger Zone, but that event isn't in the current UK Gladiators so it's probably not in the new American Gladiators either.
1
UXyes Mar 19, 2026 +1
Ninja Warrior did it right. Run 40 contestants through the course in 30 minutes. Let’s go.
1
IamChicharon Mar 18, 2026 +109
I wish they’d bring back Nickelodeon’s GUTS but let me compete…as a 40 year old
109
Demerzel69 Mar 18, 2026 +41
Still hosted by Mike O'Malley tho! F*** yeah. Win a piece of the AGGRO CRAG! 90s kids unite!
41
BigCityBoogs Mar 18, 2026 +23
Let go to the leaderboard, Mo!
23
I-Have-Mono Mar 18, 2026 +8
Or better yet, his son, Connor O’Malley!
8
WhoStoleMyBicycle Mar 18, 2026 +2
Aggro Crag sped up!!!
2
Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn Mar 18, 2026 +1
Or better, better yet....MMA fighter "Suga" Sean O'Malley! (or not)
1
WhoStoleMyBicycle Mar 18, 2026 +3
By the way, Global Guts DESTROYS Double Dare. Mike O’Malley could kick Marc Summers ass.
3
Saitsuofleaves Mar 18, 2026 +3
I have to ask though... Do You Have It?
3
rmr236 Mar 18, 2026 +14
It’s a shame legends of the hidden temples reboot for adults failed. GUTS could do well.
14
Silverward Mar 18, 2026 +14
It was twice as long and had less temple games. It was a disaster and deserved to fail.
14
Kujen Mar 18, 2026 +4
Oh no I didn’t even realize that was a thing. I loved all those 90s Nickelodeon competition shows
4
IamAWorldChampionAMA Mar 18, 2026 +6
I'm on Reddit a decent amount. It must have been a really shitty reboot if I didn't hear about it. And not even a "it's so bad it's good" shitty.
6
bloodyturtle Mar 18, 2026 +2
It was on post-collapse CW for like 2 months
2

*D-d-d-do ya have it?*
2
MD_FunkoMa Mar 18, 2026 +2
Nick did this with 'Legends of the Hidden Temple' on The CW. Didn't turn out too well in the ratings.
2
Panikkrazy Mar 18, 2026 +2
Bring back ALL of the Nick Gas shows

ghrayfahx Mar 19, 2026 +1
W-W-W-Wild and Crazy Kids!!!
1
Grabthar-the-Avenger Mar 18, 2026 +1
Last year I found out one of my brother’s best friends was on Guts and won. I spent a childhood with this guy randomly around playing SNES in the basement and had no clue he took home the Crag I told my brother off when I found out, I could have gotten a polaroid picture of the crag and been the coolest kid in 3rd grade
1
MattTheSmithers Mar 19, 2026 +1
We’d die, bro.
1
IamChicharon Mar 19, 2026 +2
But it would be good tv. And a lot of fun
2
MattTheSmithers Mar 19, 2026 +1
But Mo will judge us so hard.
1
mephnick Mar 18, 2026 +26
Hopefully they make it more balanced this time Last reboot ended up suffering because the final challenge and most of the regular challenges were dominated by skinny fast guys. So many wall climbs and sprints. I don't want to see some 160lb dude win American Gladiators every week. You got to give the more well rounded athletes a chance to win.
26
thekevingreene Mar 18, 2026 +33
The documentary was pretty fucked up. They exploited the shit outta that first group of gladiators. I hope they pay and treat this group better.
33
stonertboner Mar 18, 2026 +33
I’m sure capitalism has learned its lesson.
33
mrpopenfresh Mar 18, 2026 +4
It learned that it can shot the Mr Beast way and make silly amounts of money with even less effort.
4
Big-Soup7013 Mar 18, 2026 +13
Interesting they left out that American gladiators wasn’t shot in America.
13
JaqenHghar Mar 18, 2026 +28
What’s more American than sending the gladiators to a foreign country and destroying the place? Filmed it for free!
28
IamAWorldChampionAMA Mar 18, 2026 +7
Outsourcing to a foreign country is the most American thing you can do without blowing something up.
7
Stingray88 Mar 18, 2026 +8
Just so it’s clear to others, you mean this new reboot. The original and the 2008 reboot were both shot in LA.
8
DaveShadow Mar 18, 2026 +2
Oh? Where was it shot?
2
captainb13 Mar 18, 2026 -4
Cergy, France. They couldn't find any Americans capable of walking to the end of their driveway so had to outsource it
-4
WestleyMc Mar 18, 2026 +6
The UK reboot is on series ~~2~~ 3 and proving very popular!
6
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +2
It's on series 3, actually.
2
Robtimus_prime89 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Renewed for a 4th too
1
adsfew Mar 18, 2026 +8
For wrestling fans, is that Rick Boogz? I might watch it just for him.
8
BoringAccount4Work Mar 18, 2026 +2
Yep that's him
2
ShepPawnch Mar 18, 2026 +2
Hell yeah it is. Professor Girth himself.
2
MadEyeMood989 Mar 19, 2026 +2
There’s a ton of wrestlers in that. Wardlow, Kamille, Jesse Godderz, I might be missing some more.
2
k4kkul4pio Mar 18, 2026 +8
Another reboot for this? The show used to be fun way back when but lost charm as it went along and got reworked over the years so hope this works out.
8
DaveShadow Mar 18, 2026 +12
If it’s the same people doing this as doing the current UK version, I think it will be good.
12
spaceninjaking Mar 18, 2026
Yeah, that’s been strangely popular over here. I feel like there’s probably good hopes for US version
0
DaveShadow Mar 18, 2026 +3
I watch it cause my brother loves it, and it’s really just harmless, family-friendly fun.
3
Demerzel69 Mar 18, 2026 +9
I remember the original, and I watched the early 00's reboot that had "Crush" aka Gina Carano and thought she was the hottest fuckin thing. What a shame how she devolved over time.
9
FlopsMcDoogle Mar 18, 2026 -2
She's training now to fight Ronda Rousey on netflix
-2
Demerzel69 Mar 18, 2026 +10
Doesn't make her suck as a person any less.
10
FlopsMcDoogle Mar 18, 2026 -13
She has some dumb opinions but does she really suck as a person?
-13
ShepPawnch Mar 18, 2026 +13
She compared not wanting to wear a mask sharing a global pandemic to being a Jew in Nazi Germany. So yes.
13
FlopsMcDoogle Mar 18, 2026 -7
That's not even what the post that got her canceled was about. I have friends that voted for Trump and we argue about it a lot but they aren't bad people and I don't disown them over their misguided opinions.
-7
sybrwookie Mar 18, 2026 +2
There's a good chunk of people who are good to those directly around them and/or when people are looking, and are happy to be utter pieces of shit to everyone else.
2
FlopsMcDoogle Mar 18, 2026 -1
Ok
-1
ascagnel____ Mar 19, 2026 +1
She had Pedro f'ing Pascal try to talk with her about why being transphobic is harmful, trying to save her Star Wars role.  She came out of it doubling down on the transphobia.
1
FlopsMcDoogle Mar 19, 2026 +1
How did she double down?
1
Panikkrazy Mar 18, 2026
Personally? She sucks. As an MMA fighter? She’s great.
0
wallyrules75 Mar 18, 2026 +3
How many times has this been rebooted?
3
jjc927 Mar 19, 2026 +1
This will be the second time, though I like to pretend the 2008 NBC version didn't exist.
1
magictoasters Mar 18, 2026 +4
The bread is running out... i guess the circuses will have to suffice
4
frankduxvandamme Mar 18, 2026 +6
Contestants ready!!! Gladiators ready!!!
6
aircooledJenkins Mar 18, 2026 +4
I haven't seen the original in probably 20 years... why can I hear this?
4
BoukenGreen Mar 18, 2026 +2
Finally a premier date
2
JMDeutsch Mar 18, 2026 +2
This show could be amazing if execs had the balls.
2
Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn Mar 18, 2026 +3
Powerballs!
3
Interesting_Sea5569 Mar 18, 2026 +2
I’m optimistic that this reboot will not rely on sad backstories of the competitors and Gladiators and rely more on the competition.
2
HankSteakfist Mar 19, 2026 +2
It's 1991. Baywatch and American Gladiators are on TV. America is invading a middle Eastern country starting with "Ira" It's 2026...
2
SaveTheAles Mar 18, 2026 +2
They will kill it like American ninja warrior and just have 20 minutes of background on some kid that's dyslexic and struggled through life but went to the gym and now he is here.
2
frankduxvandamme Mar 18, 2026 +3
I'll give it a try, but there's just no way in hell this'll match the original. The reboot with hulk hogan was c***. I hated that they filmed and edited it like a reality show rather than a sports competition.
3
AlluringRocketry Mar 18, 2026 +2
Is that Mr Pectacular in the front? (Hi fellow BB fans! 👋
2
kurisutian Mar 18, 2026 +2
Yep.. you can spot another BB alumn on the picture, too: Fessy, right above Jessie
2
ILoveLamp9 Mar 18, 2026 +1
Oh man, I was just watching old episodes of this on Amazon Prime the other day and telling my wife they need to reboot this show in the same format again. I’m glad to see this. Hopefully it stays true to the original and not obsessed with the human interest angle.
1
corkysoxx Mar 18, 2026 +1
Bring Back BATTLE DOME lol
1
facedownasteroidup Mar 18, 2026 +1
omg hopefully they do it justice! best news ive heard all year
1
slickrickstyles Mar 18, 2026 +1
Host of wrestlers attached to this...Miz should be good casting.
1
VinylmationDude Mar 19, 2026 +1
Hey hey, I saw someone ask about this the other day. Was worried that WWE & AEW got into a fight about its talent being on the same show and that delayed it. Perfect timing too as Glads UK is about to wrap S3.
1
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Yeah, two episodes left, so it finishes on 28th March. That makes it a three week gap.
1
NumberMuncher Mar 19, 2026 +1
Will one of the gladiators have a background in p*** like the NBC version?
1
jjc927 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Finally a premiere date, it feels like forever ago since it was first announced. I'm looking forward to it personally as a big fan of the original series, I just hope it's better than the 2008 NBC version. The Gladiator uniforms in the picture look great, they're reminiscent of the ones worn in the first two seasons of the original.
1
Aevum1 Mar 19, 2026 +2
God bless ozempic, they can put fit people on screen again.
2
OperationSnoringCat Mar 18, 2026 +1
And it’ll only cost you an extra 4.99$ on your already 100$ a year prime membership account plus your first born child needs to be signed over to Jeff bezos
1
HowardBunnyColvin Mar 18, 2026 +2
Don't forget paying 5 dollar extra for no ads. I would be interested in watching...but it's on Prime. Other than Fallout, why would anyone have Prime?
2
Demerzel69 Mar 18, 2026 +1
I pay for Prime Video only for $9/mo. and use adblockers. No ads.
1
Accomplished-Head449 Mar 18, 2026 +1
If The Rock couldn't save this show, nothing can
1
PejicFilip Mar 18, 2026 +1
We got wwe and aew wrestlers as the gladiators on the show

wwfmike Mar 18, 2026 +1
The true Forbidden Door all along!
1
Wazzoo1 Mar 18, 2026 +1
Don't like that it's hosted by The Miz. I've seen him host Challenges and he's pretty rough. I like the guy, but not as a host.
1
HowardBunnyColvin Mar 18, 2026 +1
counterpoint :MizTv is awesome
1
ouchdathoyt Mar 18, 2026
All out of ideas again, I see.
0
rmr236 Mar 18, 2026 +5
Within a few years of every writer’s strike they bring gladiators back.
5
DJ1066 Mar 18, 2026 +3
There have been 3 series of a reboot already in the UK and its going strong. This was undoubtedly prompted by that.
3
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +2
Definitely was. The new events mentioned in the article, The Ring and Collision, are from the UK version. The UK show had Duel (which is called Joust in the US), The Wall, Gauntlet, Hang Tough, The Edge, The Ring, Powerball, and Collision in the first series of the current reboot. Seasons 2 and 3 added Atlaspheres, Crash Course, Unleash, Everest, Destruction, and Suspension Bridge. The Ring hasn't appeared at all in season 3 and there's only two episodes left, so I think that may have been dropped. I would assume most of the UK events, at least from our first revival season, will be in the American one.
2
mrpopenfresh Mar 18, 2026
Skip this and go straight to hunger games. Society is at that point.

These losers filmed American gladiators in Paris.
-2
Digifiend84 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Probably cheaper, as they can use the same equipment for the French version too. It may even be borrowed from the UK.
1
AlexTorres96 Mar 18, 2026 -2
The Miz is the best ass kisser in sports entertainment that knows how to play chess when everyone else plays connect four. Tobey Maguire won best kiss at the MTV Movie Awards back in the day but not even his lips could kiss the way Miz does. Fanboys suck off Miz because he got hazed and buy into the utility guy schtick but ignore that he's an a****** who never catches people on dives. People love saying what a safe worker he is but dude refuses to catch anyone on a dive. Anyone with common sense knows that in any field, you need to play the game and kiss a ton of ass. That's why Ryan Seacrest is a mercenary because he knows how to kiss ass and play the game. He's the wet dream of any exec and he knows it which is why he's a top dog.

Prime is doing this? bezos is gonna turn it into real life hunger games…
-5
Virtual-Nose7777 Mar 18, 2026 -12
Let me guess, Trump asked for them to remake it.
-12
DJ1066 Mar 18, 2026 +1
Or...... Crazy as it sounds- They saw how well the UK reboot has been doing for the last three years and gave it the green light. It's not that deep.
1
HowardBunnyColvin Mar 18, 2026 -13
>The physical competition series, which is hosted by WWE and Real World alum Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, will launch on April 17. Good to see they continue the tradition of WWE figures hosting. I remember Hulk hosting the original "It's american gladiators, brother."
-13
WintersDoomsday Mar 18, 2026 +12
The original? You mean Mike Adamle and Todd Christiansen?
12
georgecm12 Mar 18, 2026 +2
I went back and watched some of those early episodes, and I was surprised that Mike Adamle wasn't always the lead host. The best episodes of the original run were with him as lead PxP and Larry Czonka as color commentator. They had by far and away the best on-air chemistry.
2
rmr236 Mar 18, 2026 +2
You forgot Joe Namath and eventually Nitro hosted.
2
DJ1066 Mar 18, 2026 +1
Well, Mike Adamle is technically WWE alumni, though he was on commentary in WWE long after Gladiators was done.
1
HowardBunnyColvin Mar 18, 2026 -5

2008, brother. Gina Carano was "Crush" on it.
4
OdepiusNecks Mar 18, 2026 +7
The 2008 version hosted by Hulk was a reboot, actually. The original aired in the late 80s/early 90s.
