Ahh yes, Congress, that American institution that is so famous for protecting jobs… lol.

Republicans are decimating manufacturing jobs there’s no way they will lift a finger for Hollywood.

mgoflash Apr 4, 2026 +23
But trump appointed Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone as liaison to the industry to fix this. So we’re all good. /s Oh, and I’m serious. He did this.

shutter3218 Apr 4, 2026 +3
Trump said he was going to use tariffs to bring film jobs back then didn’t do shit. 💩
3
wpbfriendone Apr 4, 2026 +6
You are not giving them enough credit, they have decimated tech jobs too

MentalDisintegrat1on Apr 4, 2026 +2
To be fair people like mel Gibson and John vought went to trump and asked him to end the wokenes in Hollywood and make it more mainly and pro America.

Future_Brewski Apr 4, 2026 +3
Just their own jobs, benefits, pay raises, and abilities to trade stocks.
3
DearBurt Apr 4, 2026 +1
And for complaining about “liberal Hollywood elites.”
1
Future_Brewski Apr 4, 2026 +44
There’s like 400 things the Hollywood executives can do to make the industry more sustainable first but we all know they won’t.

myhouseisabanana Apr 4, 2026 +3
there is? like what?

HopefulSurveys Apr 4, 2026 +19
Not straddle their entertainment companies with huge amounts of debt trying to buy a competitor that’s a start. Oracle had to lay off so many people as did Meta.

*saddle

Congress cant wipe their own ass. They cant even save democracy, let alone an entire industry.
38
Oleg101 Apr 4, 2026 +3
And the one in control of both chambers seems to want to take a giant shit on democracy and the entire industry.
3
Greensentry Apr 4, 2026 +2
There’s however one thing they are extremely good at. Enriching themselves with insider trading.
2
walrusbwalrus Apr 4, 2026 +10
Congress accomplishing…anything? Seems like a real hard ask at the moment. I’d look for alternative solutions.

Irish__Rage Apr 4, 2026 +11
Who knew letting PE buy up and consolidate all the studios would stifle creativity, jack prices up for everyone, and kill jobs.

Bobbie_Sacamano Apr 3, 2026 +32
Sorry, I canceled all my subscription services due to th getting less while paying more each year thing.
32
PieTighter Apr 4, 2026 +4
I still would have kept them except for the fact that my raises have been less than the rate of inflation for the past 5 years.
4
Bobbie_Sacamano Apr 4, 2026 +3
Apple TV is the only one worth the money. Not a lot of content but it is all consistently good.
3
midniteslayr Apr 4, 2026 +4
Video Game industry as well. Sooo many unemployed Americans.
4
Fluid-Bet6223 Apr 4, 2026 +4
Isn’t it “stanch”?
4
DerangedFerret Apr 6, 2026 +1
No it’s staunch

BulwarkOnline Apr 3, 2026 +8
The movie business is bleeding jobs, California is losing ground, and Trump wants to fix it with another tariff fever dream. Sonny Bunch on the cost of treating every problem like a chance for more political theater.

sweetangeldivine Apr 3, 2026 +3
They won't, because they won't enforce the antitrust laws that are ALREADY ON THE BOOKS
3
Fitz_2112b Apr 4, 2026 +3
Lol, this congress?
3
kinotravels Apr 4, 2026 +3
Congress?! You mean the people elected to represent the people who act as if they’ve been on high doses of Valium basically forever? Those do nothings don’t care about us.
3
RunningPirate Apr 4, 2026 +1
Now that’s a bit judgmental. Have you considered the feelings of big money donors? /s for those that need it.
1
Algae_Mission Apr 3, 2026 +5
Unfortunately, any studio accountant will look at the numbers and decide that if they can reasonably shoot in England or Vancouver and not have to pay taxes in LA, why shouldn’t they shoot in those other locations? It’s sad. But that’s the world we’re facing.
5
CheesyPotatoSack Apr 3, 2026 +2
They don’t care to
2
CPLWPM85 Apr 4, 2026 +2
They are too busy ceding their power to the fuhrer.

BFsMomsCancer Apr 4, 2026 +2
sag could show solidarity and not take jobs out of the country. Sag holds every production hostage including indies. Above the line people make way too much money.
2
DidAnyoneElseJustCum Apr 4, 2026 +5
That's really the only thing the US has left in this industry is their star power. Every other thing about a film can be sent overseas and done just as well for a fraction of the price. So yeah, it would take whatever big stars there are left to refuse to film outside the country. Unfortunately you're more likely to see these big stars *leave* the country because of all the other shit going on, and nobody would want to make such a jingoistic proclamation.

BFsMomsCancer Apr 4, 2026 +4
Its just irritating when sag wants to strike IATSE always has their backs and helps fund their programs. I work in a small industry city that maybe gets 2 shows a year if lucky. Half my work comes from non-union productions and sag always cripples those too. A 3-week movie may have a 1 million dollar budget but half of it is gone immediately to the star, executive producer, director, and the writer. The star is usually a Candace Cameron tier actor. 3 weeks of work and they will make over 6 figures. Then sag also wants residuals up front too. How do you make a movie with 30 crew members, feed, house and pay them for under 500k? The tax credit system needs an overhaul. Georgia is in trouble because of it. You have all these credits to sell but not enough buyers. These actors get their ass kissed for everything. They're not on the working classes side. Dont know why everyone sticks up for them.

_AmericasSweetheart_ Apr 4, 2026 +2
Iatse went on strike to support WGA and SAG/AFTRA but how is our sacrifice repaid? They just step over us on their way to the airport.
2
treypage1981 Apr 4, 2026 +2
There have been, what, 60 superhero movies in the last 15 years? Do they expect charity or something after that?
2
Darkdragoon324 Apr 3, 2026 +1
If they wanted to, but they only seem to desire destruction.
1
bluehawk232 Apr 4, 2026 +1
We're letting right wing rags post here now and have accounts?
1
ginjamchammerfist Apr 4, 2026 +1
Congress would kill all of us and replace us with robot drones if they could.
1
PopPalsUnited Apr 4, 2026 +1
I’d rather see them put average Americans back to work.
1
Longjumping-Air1489 Apr 4, 2026 +1
Would they if they could? Sounds like these jobs are either bleeding heart liberal actors, or blue collar flyover programmable meatbags who would rather cut off their own heads than vote democrat. /sarcasm but not really. Why would Congress care?
1
MastersOfNoneShow Apr 4, 2026 +1
No. Next question

I just scrolled past a video featuring a lady “free bleeding” in a park and now I have visuals in my brain

There are Americans worried about their jobs, do you think we care if entertainers are worried?
-9
sweetangeldivine Apr 4, 2026 +19
The entertainment industry (of which I am a part of) employs hundreds of thousands of craftspeople, camera people, caterers, drivers, costumers, builders, electricians, writers, etc. It's a whole industry that is literally being destroyed by tech bro billionaires who took a money printing machine and broke it for a quick dollar and are now throwing it in the trash while the rest of us literally can't get hired at Macy's.
19
_AmericasSweetheart_ Apr 4, 2026 +3
As a Costumer, we use Studio Services at department stores like Macy's. If we aren't working, Macy's employees lose their jobs too.
3
sweetangeldivine Apr 4, 2026 +2
I'm a scenic artist/set painter, paint stores have lost a ton of revue because of the loss of studio income, and some of my favorite Mom and Pop places have been forced to close. This affects a huge chunk of our economy here.
2
_AmericasSweetheart_ Apr 4, 2026 +2
Absolutely. I don't think people understand how much the economy in this city is stimulated by this industry.
2
DrAnchovies Apr 4, 2026 +10
There are plenty of regular ole Americans who work on TV and films. I’m one of them. Not everyone is a high dollar actor. We just want to do the job we’ve been doing. Thats all.
10
myhouseisabanana Apr 4, 2026 +8
imagine being as dumb as this guy
8
GriffinFlash Apr 4, 2026 +4
You know normal people work in media right? Example, not American, but I'm an animator. I have worked on kid shows. I am far from wealthy. It pays bills like any other job.
4
At0mJack Apr 4, 2026 +4
I'm an American who works in film. I'm worried about my job.

BYoungNY Apr 4, 2026 -1
This was right under another story today about Hollywood havingits best boxoffice quarter since 2019... Pick one.
-1
CaliggyJack Apr 3, 2026 -5
Good. The industry needs to burn and be rebuilt from. The ground up.
-5
myhouseisabanana Apr 4, 2026 +7
why is it good that people are losing their jobs?
7
At0mJack Apr 4, 2026 +1
Guess I'll just go f*** myself then. Are you hiring?
1
CrustyTh3Punk Apr 4, 2026 -2
A pound of ground beef costs more than the federal minimum wage. Let it burn with us in the fire. Unless Hollywood wants to pool their money to help us.
