American held captive in Afghanistan released, Taliban says

What happened the week of Jan 27, 2025 that made the Taliban go after this guy, I wonder. >He first arrived in Afghanistan in the early 2000s, where he worked to survey Afghanistan's linguistic diversity and help communities develop resources in their own languages, according to his family.

This is great news I'm my opinion. It was of course horrible he was imprisoned. But having the Taliban make the decision that he has served enough time in prison and can be released is surprising and a complete 180 from what I am used to. When I grew up any one captured by the Taliban either disappeared or was publicly executed. This is big news for me. It did involve his family his family making pleas for his release. However in the past the government couldn't negotiate a release of a person.

The Taliban treat US hostages better than US police treat US citizens.
