I know this will annoy some. But I think there is a reason Bernie could relate to people you never would expect to root for him. He was one of the few always consistent with what he said. I don't like that things are shifting in the hands of the worse people ever. But at the same time the left needs to stop constantly contradicting their selves. One thing I can see people's points on Dems have just turned into a party against everything Republicans are for. Kind of like they are loosing what it is that they stand for. So how are people expected to take them seriously?

What? I think your argument holds water for the Republican side. They certainly have demonstrated time and again they just are against anything the Democrats are for, especially when they call out "Them dems" and not the policy itself. I would not make the same statement for the Dems. But let's be real here, part of that is going to be what happens when you have a two party system. Arguably the largest issue they have from an identity perspective is that they have over-extended with their diversity language and have not touched base with white (specifically male) voters. They have made some really good strides in the local area on this, but are still struggling at the national level.

>the largest issue they have from an identity perspective is that they have over-extended with their diversity language and have not touched base with white (specifically male) voters. When you have enjoyed privilege for most of your life, seeing less privileged people elevated to equal status will seem like your "rights" are being degraded. Rights denied to _any_ of us are rights denied to _all_ of us.

What you're saying about not reaching white male voters is true. I can see the struggle to though. Besides more birth control options their issues really aren't anything politics can fix. I had a white male group I hung out with for years I know what they would say to all other ideas I can think of. Programs for a men's get together they would say sounds ...lame. If they sent male mentors with strong self confidence they would have a laugh. Probably joke the government is sending perverts to groom them all.

I feel like this is the inevitable consequence of a generation raised on 'partisan entertainment' over genuine civic engagement. Its really the "iPhone effect". We've been conditioned to crave the dopamine hit of outrage, rather than the nuanced discussion of complex issues. The result is a populace that's increasingly disconnected from the actual mechanics of governance, and a political landscape that rewards tribalism over pragmatism. Its not that people dont care; they just care in entirely the wrong way

While I appreciate a good "both sides" effort, your desire to appear to be enlightened completely misses the fact that you can't, and shouldn't, find middle ground with people who lack empathy or an interest in the truth.

And you just proved their point. The lack of self awareness is evident.

Your idea that any two sides must be legitimate because they are held by a significant percentage of the population, is the epitome of stupidity.

All true but let's not normalize things, both sides are not the same. The social media landscape has led to a culture that can't tell the difference between rubbery overcooked steak and a steaming pile of dog faeces so we inevitably oscillate between the two. This is not a both sides problem.

The only threat to democracy are people insisting on meeting nazis half-way. All of history tells us that **never** works, and yet people like you somehow have the gall to emit an air of intellectual propriety insisting there is something good about tolerating and negotiating with nazis. I hope there's a draft in the US, because the US desperately needs a new, military-trained, radicalized generation to replace the sanity that was lost when the WW2 generation passed away. People with clear-minded morality need to replace the broomhandles of the world who think that there's ambiguity to evil.
