> Unlike the first “Devil Wears Prada” movie, where fashion brands hesitated to have their clothes featured in a movie that was an unknown wild card, the sequel filmed with the support of several high-end fashion brands and the cast even attended actual runway shows during Milan Fashion Week. It was a wake-up call for Streep, who returns to her Oscar-nominated role of Miranda Priestly.
> “I was struck by how not only beautiful and young — everyone seems young to me — but alarmingly thin the models were,” Streep told the magazine about attending fashion shows. “I thought that all had been addressed years ago. Annie clocked it too, and she made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show that we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal! She’s a stand-up girl.”

It really is shocking to see that the 90s wafer-thin human hanger look is coming back into fashion. I thought we'd moved beyond that. Now you're not even allowed to comment on how shockingly unhealthy it looks without being slammed for body shaming. I've seen so many stories of young women who are already underweight getting prescriptions for Ozempic and Zepbound to aid in maintaining the look too, it's so sad.

It’s all awful, especially for young girls and women. There were so many eating disorders in the late 90s. My teenage friend group used to share tips on starving ourselves and complimented other girls for being thin. There are probably tons of stories similar from women who grew up in that era. With the today’s meds and surgeries it gives a bad feeling.
Thank goodness Anne Hathaway put a stop to that mess in the movie. She’s a good role model, and I truly hope not hiring ultra skinny models has a positive effect for the younger generations for girls and women. Christina Ricci says it best, “there is more to life than being thin.

It's honestly worse now tbh. I think then a lot were relying on whackjob diets by trainers but the body had a limit where starvation was happening to stop it. With Ozermpic or whatever they're they're taking the seem to bypass that. And probably have more doctors that can give them a cocktail of drugs to get them through public appearances

It’s insaneee to me that we can’t talk openly about how damaging it is to hold ‘extremely thin’ as a societal beauty standard. And it is damaging! There is a myriad of solid evidence to support this! And I say this as someone who does fit the beauty standard in this particular way! It should be okay to talk about how dangerous it is to encourage women (whether directly or through implicit social pressure) to shrink themselves as much as possible and how the pursuit of this often damages the body

One of my close friends was anorexic back in the 90s and early 2ks - her health is SHIT now in her 40s.
My aunt was anorexic as well, she died at 42 from an infection post-op after she had to have heart surgery - the years of improper nutrition really took a toll on her heart and immune system.
These young people are damaging themselves in ways they don't understand yet.

Not shocking to me. Ozympic hits the market and the entire fat-acceptance crowd vanishes overnight. Just like the excess pounds on all the celebs who pushed the movement. Sorta like how certain other agendas seem to disappear from media and entertainment once the companies pushing for them stop turning a profit for grifting said movements.

As someone on a GLP-1, yes, most people have to stay on it when used as directed (just like any other med treating a chronic condition). Obviously many people are not using it as intended though, which helps add to the stigma of taking it in the first place too.
3
Cimorene_KazulMar 25, 2026
Not necessarily. Ozempic is being used in addiction treatment generally. Like any medication, there’s a risk of tolerance if you’re on it too long, so you can’t stay on it. It’s supposed to help you develop better habits and no longer be tormented by cravings and addiction itches. That behaviour has to continue after the drug is no longer being taken, but it seems that for many people, just having that time away from their addiction helps them reset and live healthier lives.
People addicted to Ozempic are obviously using backwards.

I hit a major plateau with my weight loss for 9 months after changing up as much as I could. Thanks 40s!
I started on Zepbound (OMG the GI side effects!!!) after I had some good talks with my weight loss doctor (not primary care doctor). I'm staying on 5mg for as long as I possibly can and hopefully for long term. I average losing about 2 pounds per week which is perfect for me because I still want to be maintaining and hopefully growing my muscle mass as a lady in her 40s who just had a hysterectomy.
A med to help the biological side of things and therapy to help the mental side of things has been awesome! My overall goal is to nix the GLP-1 in about 3ish years. It takes 18-24 months to "clear" a brain after an addiction and then another year of normal habit.

This stuff never works. And acting kind of necessitates that you...well, depict something you are not.
Public backlash is guaranteed.

While Anne Hathaway is definitely not a large woman, skeletal is not a word youd use to describe her. If she's shocked, that's kinda saying something. And looking at a lot of runway photos, it seems to be trending towards the "Twiggy" era for body type again, which has always been problematic because it's not a natural body type for the majority of women.
It can also be a trend towards designers getting lazy, not necessarily aesthetics. It's easier to work with smaller models without curves because they can always add padding to make their outfit look the way they want. It takes more time and skill the larger/curvier a model is to tailor a look and keep the same effects.

I didn’t mention her BMI and BMI itself is an outdated measuring stick. And large is still a fine descriptor by definition. At 5’10”, Anne Hathaway is a large woman. Just like how a man, at 6’3”, is a large man. She is not fat, rotund, obese, or unhealthy. She is still, however, large.

You might win the world record for being the most pedantic on this site. First BMI is only inaccurate when dealing with muscular body types like body builders but that’s besides the point. They were obviously using “large” as a way of talking about fat/ body mass. A tall lady at 160 is not the same as a short lady at 160, I believe you to be a genuine and earnest person so this is a blind critique on this one interaction but If this is the energy you bring to the world you may be finding yourself getting into spats with more like minded individuals than need to be and if that’s due to neuro divergence take this asa friendly tip to probably not dig in as much, but if you straight up typical. Stop being so pedantic please, ok have a good day
19
Past_Wallaby_9435Mar 25, 2026
+5
"BMI is only inaccurate when dealing with muscular body types like body builders" sorry but as a bmi hater i have to jump in - BMI's biggest issue is its origin. It was designed in the 1830s by a mathematician using data from Western European white men, meaning it often fails to account for the diverse bone densities and fat distributions of different ethnicities and sexes. Beyond bodybuilders, it also misses "skinny fat" individuals who have a "healthy" weight but high body fat, and it doesn't adjust for the natural loss of muscle mass as we age. Ultimately, it's a better tool for tracking large populations than it is for diagnosing an individual's actual health.

Also don't make Meryl Streep so mean, she's nice in real life. And don't make them so obsessed with fashion, it's not healthy. Especially not brands like Prada, it's not a realistic attainable brand for most young women
By the way, do we really need "devil" in the name? That's not being a good role model, idolizing a demon of the underworld.

There are plenty of women that are very tall and skinny naturally . These days they wouldn’t be considered quite as desirable due to instagram models setting the tone. Now you need tons of plastic surgery, fake hair and photoshop. I understand the backlash with the skinny look. I just don’t think that we’ve evolved into a better situation with all the fake and phony “curvy” women. Going under the knife to remove ribs and inflate your butt is pretty dangerous too. Not every skinny model is anorexic.
