Redline (2009)

I was typing this one myself. Redline is one of the most impressive animations I’ve seen. And a fun movie

PhantomKitten73 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Redline and Promare make for a great double feature of non-stop anime insanity.
2
dr_spaceman___ Mar 28, 2026 +1
Well now I have to watch Promare! I haven’t heard about that one. I only learned about Redline a few months ago. Anything to add for a triple feature?

rAin_nul Mar 28, 2026 +1
You can also try Tailenders. It's a short movie, but many people compare it to Redline.

A racing movie where it feels like everyone was on acid, but really it's just the most insanely dedicated group of animators

mr_ji Mar 27, 2026 +2
Wow. I didn't know about this and I'm watching it tonight. Reminds me of the racing scene from Neo Tokyo.

Forgive me for being an anime nerd: Akira: Starts with a legendary motorcycle chase, ends with a legendary rampage. Ghost in the Shell: Thoughtful sci-fi with an ass-kicking cyborg cop protagonist. Summer Wars: Its most intense scene is a card game and not a fight but the fights still rule. Steamboy: The best steampunk movie ever and its not even close. Most action-packed movie in this comment. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie: You don't need to see the show first. The End of Evangelion: You do need to see the show first but that won't make it make sense.

I’d add Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D. And Guyver, even tho that’s a series (or several). Unless you count the live-action American movie pair (which you should).

FourSes Mar 28, 2026 +1
Vampire Hunter D rules! I still haven't seen the sequel, Bloodlust. Or Ninja Scroll. But the animated Fist of the North Star, or the Devilman OVAs? Good stuff.

*The Incredibles* (2004) is the finest animated movie I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen most of the movies you & the other commenters have mentioned.  It’s a perfect movie  The sequel is actually fine but not remotely the equal of the original.

anthonyg1500 Mar 27, 2026 +2
I really think pound for pound Incredibles is Pixar’s best movie. It’s not even my personal favorite but it’s just so well done and tightly made. It really is perfect

When I was a kid if Titan AE was on that means you stop everything and watch it. I loved it so much and you never know when it’ll be on again

The animated Predator movie is pretty good
20
jimmysilverrims Mar 27, 2026 +3
*Predator: Killer of Killers*. Amazing film! Highly enjoyable, especially for the action sequences. The "Shield" and "Bullet" sequences (including "Shield"s stunning long oner) were animated largely by Florida-based Steamroller Studios. Unfortunately they recently suffered layoffs this month...

princess mononoke. Name sounds cheesy maybe, but think of the name like "the princess bride" its not a girly movie. Its an adventure epic.
15
FourSes Mar 27, 2026 +6
I mean the name roughly translates to Vengeful Monster Princess, it's pretty badass and not the princess's name.
6
feartheoldblood90 Mar 27, 2026 +3
"not a girly movie" Are we in elementary school? Lol what are we doing Anyways, OP, Princess Mononoke is one of my favorite movies of all time and is a large part of what popularized anime in the West, can't recommend it enough

The newest TMNT movie had way more style and love put into it than I ever expected, similar to the Puss in Boots and Spiderverse style

The classic '80s film and Transformers One (2024) are both great.

Even if you're not into D&D I felt that animated versions of Critical Roles Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein are pretty decent.

Distinct_Boss656 Mar 27, 2026 +2
if you haven't seen "the mitchells vs. the machines," that's a must-watch. also, check out "big hero 6" and "the lego movie" for some solid animated action!

gotthelowdown Mar 27, 2026 +2
Bubblegum Crisis. TV series, but worth mentioning. Parts of this chase scene feel similar to the Batmobile chase in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. [Bubblegum Crisis Griffon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tBuPwXBCvs&t=430s)

Dofus Livre 1 is a very fun French animation, apparently it's based on a neopets-like game that I've never heard of, so the fact that its so f****** good and beautiful comes out of nowhere. No idea where you can find it though

SCUDDEESCOPE Mar 27, 2026 +1
The Resident Evil cg movies are really good

If you watch the first four minutes of the Korean film Aachi and Ssipak, I think you will be on board. https://youtu.be/oTpHrA77uqc?si=05aUrkh_yxociiFj

Memories is a great Anime anthology. But the one story to check out in this film is called Magnetic Rose.
1
Blues39 Mar 27, 2026 +1
The Animatrix to this day is well regarded.

ZPTs Mar 27, 2026 +1
Not movies, but the animated Star Wars shows are really good- specifically Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Clone Wars has more fluff episodes but both pay off well.
1
Ultimichael Mar 27, 2026 +1
Not a movie, but Attack on Titan is incredible.

K2TheM Mar 27, 2026 +1
Though more short stories, most Love Death & Robots entries have a fair bit of action in them. Your mileage may very though depending on your tastes.

Here's something unique, that I keep recommending: **Ruben Brandt, Collector**. It's a surreal Psychological Action Thriller (with nods to Hitchcock's suspenseful Film Language) about a Psychiatrist who is "haunted" by nightmarish thoughts of 13 famous paintings. A group of his patients, who are all criminals, decided to steal all these paintings in order to free their doctor from his obsession. Check out the action-packed TRAILER on its IMDb page: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6241872/

Scrolled to the bottom and two I'm not seeing: Ninja Scroll and Macross Plus.

A Silent Voice. I heard good things about it before watching it, but wow. I was blown away after watching it. Really emotional movie.

The Transformers: The Movie, if you haven't already. Sure, it's an 80-minute toy commercial for c*** from the '80s, but it's a ***really cool*** toy commercial for c*** from the '80s.
