That worked out really well for Ukraine’s deal with Russia!

Sadly, the only real guarantee any nation has against attack from countries like the US and Russia is having nuclear weapons. You could demonstrate that the consequences of any attack will far outweigh the benefits, which I think is Iran's strategy right now but even then you only have to look at Russia's war in Ukraine to see even that might not be enough. Expecting these countries to obey a piece of paper though is just f****** copium.

Even then is that really enough? The threat is that you destroy yourself and the rest of the world if they are used

Yeah you're right, I mean there's no ultimate guarantee but it does at least put way down at the very end of the target list.

It’s worked for North Korea

Considering the Budapest memorandum was toilet paper in the end. Nukes are the only guarantee of protection these days.

This posturing tells me that the UAE and the Gulf states are screwed in the medium term.

Donnie is happy to break every agreement signed by America. It doesn't matter if he was the one who agreed it in the first place. Remember USMCA agreement where the Orange Moron said "“I look at some of these agreements, I’d read them at night, and I’d say, ‘Who would ever sign a thing like this?’". It was, of course, him.

They mean like in Ukraine?

It means they don't want to uphold their end of the deal, and assume the other side will.

I'm not sure how you'd get agreement from a fanatical fundamentalist regime who not two months ago massacred 35 thousand of *their own citizens*, attacked civilian infrastructure of neutral countries (as well as their ally), have funded and armed terrorist groups for decades causing untold death and misery, and are literally trying to hold the entire planet hostage just to cling to power.

The same way you’d get agreement from a government that overthrew over a hundred democratically elected leaders, funded right wing paramilitaries and death squads and fomented civil wars leading to the deaths of millions of civilians (USA). Both sides have rational self interests and can reach a deal. The USA surely doesn’t care about civilians dying not sure why you think that is relevant when we ally the UAE and Saudis among others

Do they mean that the United States and Israel won’t attack Iran in the future?
