Any of the more obscure Apple TV shows worth watching?

Posted by midwestfeline

Basically shows beyond Ted Lasso, Pluribus, Your Friends and Neighbors, Severance, Silo and Shrinking. I think those are their biggest hitters.

Foundation, Murderbot, and Slow Horses are definitely worth watching. Honestly, I’ve only found two ATV+ shows that I didn’t like (Palm Royale and Sunny), but I didn’t think either was “bad”, just not for me.

Ive really liked For All Mankind too.

Fuckspez42 Apr 5, 2026 +159
Shit, I somehow managed to forget entirely about For All Mankind, which eclipses every other show I’ve mentioned.

Season 5 out now! Also, obligatory; f*** spez!

Just started it and can’t believe I wasn’t watching this sooner. Unbelievably great show.
10
nerfherder998 Apr 6, 2026 +32
For All Mankind started great. This season and the last two before IMO have slipped a lot from the first two. >!Basically anything from Mars forward is weaker.!<
32
gato_taco Apr 6, 2026 +5
I agree. I was hooked until I wasn't.
5
JulioMorales65 Apr 5, 2026 +151
Slow Horses is the best

agnyc Apr 6, 2026 +6
Agree. Love this show
6
ian9outof10 Apr 5, 2026 +50
Sunny I liked a lot, but the end is weak and they canceled it - so I’d not advise people bother with it.
50
jingleheimerschitt Apr 6, 2026 +5
They didn’t end it, but it did get canceled. I assume that’s why the “end” is weak.
5
Nemaeus Apr 5, 2026 +120
Murderbot was surprisingly good and I can’t wait for another season of that.

BiasCutTweed Apr 6, 2026 +32
I have read all the books and I am chewing the walls for season 2 a particular moment I know is coming…

Yep. Also looking forward to her new MB book Platform Decay coming out in May!

DirtnAll Apr 6, 2026 +41
Slow Horses is why I subscribed.
41
BottAndPaid Apr 6, 2026 +24
Slow horses is easily one of the best shows on apple TV it rivals severance and silo for me.
24
JoshDM Apr 5, 2026 +38
Murderbot is very slow but fun.
38
Fuckspez42 Apr 5, 2026 +65
This is an attitude that I (as an elder person) have some difficulty with; ~8 episodes/season never feels “slow” to me because I grew up with TV shows that regularly featured 20-24 episodes per season.
65
bros402 Apr 5, 2026 +25
It's "slow" because it takes a 150 page novella and spreads it across ~150 minutes
25
Deep_Bluejay_8976 Apr 6, 2026 +6
Yeah it wasn’t slow at all for me. I wish I’d gotten more.
6
wtfnevermind Apr 6, 2026 +5
I gotta say, I’m enjoying Palm Royale. I like a costume period show, & honestly it’s fun to see Carol Burnett (!!!) as a villain. Good casting!
5
FallenAngelina Apr 5, 2026 +527
Foundation if you enjoy Sci-Fi or will watch anything with Lee Pace.
527
fluffy_knuckles Apr 5, 2026 +47
Foundation just looks so good.
47
mmm_muse Apr 5, 2026 +16
Literally wanted to start a rewatch the second I finished. I rationed episodes BC I didn't want it to end.
16
lightspeedissueguy Apr 5, 2026 +108
Omg...  Lee Pace 🤤
108
snowhawk04 Apr 6, 2026 +36
Please respect and enjoy the Pace.
36
DurtyStopOut Apr 5, 2026 +47
I would let Lee Pace give me a flesh eating disease. And I'm a straight guy
47
OMGBeckyStahp Apr 5, 2026 +52
I’m a lesbian woman and somehow he makes me wish I were a gay man.
52
BD03 Apr 5, 2026 +27
If you like scifi this show is amazing. It's had the budget, it's beautiful, it's confusing. It's excellent
27
jigglehippo47 Apr 5, 2026 +12
Yes and yes...
12
stuartsaysst0p Apr 5, 2026 +316
Not that I would call them obscure but: Pachinko (best show on there), For All Mankind, Drops of God, Disclaimer
316
JoelPilgrim Apr 5, 2026 +102
God I want a third season of Pachinko.
102
stuartsaysst0p Apr 5, 2026 +28
I was on the Apple TV originals wiki page just now and it was so sad to see it listed under ended programming. I do get it bc I can’t imagine how much money they were spending on a show that was (presumably) barely watched by anyone but still so sad.
28
JoelPilgrim Apr 5, 2026 +12
Did they ever officially say it was ending? I thought it was still dangling.
12
stuartsaysst0p Apr 5, 2026 +11
No official statements but I’ve heard it’s all but canceled. The wikipedia page was kind of the nail in the coffin for me 😔
11
Ranjith_Unchained Apr 5, 2026 +9
That's rough, I was hoping for a season 3, felt like there were still some storylines to cover in S3.
9
rahajicho Apr 5, 2026 +18
I read the book last month to find out how the story ends, as I’ve given up hope for season three.
18
Zealousideal_Dog3430 Apr 5, 2026 +21
Pachinko was absolutely their best show and it's tragic that it was so underwatched.
21
bodyreddit Apr 6, 2026 +4
Loved Pachinko, I had read the book years before and didn’t want to watch, but I finalky did and it was beautifully done.

I came late to it, but this is my favorite series that I’ve watched in the last couple years.

2/10 basically no bits about horses being slow
128
noburdennyc Apr 6, 2026 +13
Literally unwatchable, i come from a family of horse girls.
13
Lonely-Stick-7676 Apr 5, 2026 +76
been meaning to check that one out after hearing good things in few podcasts lately. gary oldman really doesnt miss does he
76
thestenz Apr 5, 2026 +57
He does not. He is amazing as usual.
57
Named_after_color Apr 5, 2026 +38
He turns being gross into legitimate spycraft. My favorite example is when >!he's sent off to Mi5's headquarters, burping and reeking of alcohol sweat, and he's like "give me a room with an open window" and I'm pretty sure it's only so he doesn't go to a basement f*** you cell to be disappeared.!<
38
thestenz Apr 5, 2026 +15
I'd love to see him in his prime, but no one could do a spin-off like that justice. He's just too good!
15
hungaryboii Apr 5, 2026 +30
Gary Oldman's character is my favorite one in that show
30
thoruen Apr 5, 2026 +14
some might say[Tiptoes](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0316768/) was a miss. Not me, but some might...

Obscure?
11
devilinthedetails Apr 5, 2026 +46
Down Cemetary Road is also quite good, same production team iirc
46
PhysicsIsFun Apr 5, 2026 +19
Also based on a book by Mick Herron who wrote the Slow Horses books.
19
PhysicsIsFun Apr 5, 2026 +26
One of the best series I've ever watched. I liked it much more than Severance and Pluribus. I believe there are several more seasons in the works.

I laugh everytime I see a Celcius.
16
Luchalma89 Apr 5, 2026 +10
Watched the first episode on a whim and thought I wasnt going to be into it. But I binged the second episode to the end pretty quick.
10
BrazilianMerkin Apr 5, 2026 +31
I started off liking this show a lot, but as they sort of devolved into toxic codependency it lost its humor and became more… anxiety inducing in a cringe way if that makes sense? Could just be me as I’m prone to anxiety Enjoyed earlier on when it was more about their unique friendship, but then as their friendship seemed to unravel the rest of one another’s lives I couldn’t sit through the cringe. Does it get better or worse in second season?
31
Ren_Kaos Apr 5, 2026 +44
That IS their friendship tho. Thats one of the main reasons they aren’t friends in the beginning of the first episode, it’s clear they are going to be toxic and codependent.
44
ResponsiblePatient16 Apr 5, 2026 +188
Dark Matter was pretty good.
188
Technical-Outside408 Apr 5, 2026 +22
Long wait for season 2. Imma do check up on it. Edit: this summer. Hopefully.
22

The book was awesome, the show was fantastic!
11
kevin2fla Apr 5, 2026 +7
Yes forgot about that one. I actually enjoyed it.
7
East_Coast_guy Apr 5, 2026 +430
Murderbot.
430
malin7 Apr 5, 2026 +166
Those little The Rise & Fall of Sanctuary Moons clips are hilarious
166
Mr_MacGrubber Apr 6, 2026 +16
Pretty funny they got decently well known actors to play the roles. Other than murderbot theyre the biggest names in the cast.
16
Tymareta Apr 6, 2026 +10
McBrayer and Skarsgård are apparently besties, and Cho/Gregg/Wise are all fairly nerdy and have quite a bit of Sci-Fi experience, especially for something so camp and over the top, I'd be surprised if Apple needed to "get" anyone instead of having their pick of people clamoring to be part of it.
10
fraspas Apr 5, 2026 +12
I wouldn't mind if that became it's own show on Apple
12
elizalemon Apr 5, 2026 +22
Omg, yes. I should do a rewatch, I binged it all so quickly.
22
VoiceofReasonability Apr 5, 2026 +30

The fact that David Dastmalchian's character is the least weird person in it is funny.

Slow Horses and For All Mankind are great.

Malak_7 Apr 5, 2026 +96

96
leslieknope4realish Apr 6, 2026 +12
A perfect mix of wholesome and ab-workout levels of hilarious (similar vibes, imho, to Ted Lasso and Schitt’s Creek)! I wish they marketed it better so more people knew about it. Truly a gem!
12
YanisMonkeys Apr 6, 2026 +18
Thank you! This one is actually obscure, yet has managed to get 5 seasons. I don’t know anyone who watches it but it’s fantastic. Surpasses Ted Lasso eventually.
18
havertzatit Apr 6, 2026 +6
Easily their best warm hearted comedy. Works even better knowing the two leads are now married in real life.
6
thestenz Apr 5, 2026 +50
For All Mankind. The space race I could only dream about as a kid.
50
-_nobody Apr 5, 2026 +166
Schmigadoon! is fun if you like musicals. especially classic musicals
166
ChronoMonkeyX Apr 5, 2026 +28
I hate musicals, but I love Schmigadoon and Galavant! I just heard a radio commercial yesterday, they are doing a live Schmigadoon stage show. Kind of surprised me, wasn't expecting to hear that name.
28
JuWoolfie Apr 5, 2026 +29
Have you watched Crazy Ex Girlfriend? It’s my favourite of the bunch.
29
Put-A-Bird-On-It Apr 5, 2026 +16
Heh...Bunch
16
xgyu Apr 5, 2026 +9
Crazy Ex Girlfriend is a great show to introduce people who don't like musicals to musicals. Besides being a hilarious show it is like a crash course in musical genres. You get it all and the variety makes it not overwhelming to skeptics of musicals.

Boomdiddy Apr 5, 2026 +266
For All Mankind

Muroid Apr 5, 2026 +24
Season 2 finale is one of my all time favorite season finales.
24
The_O_Nee_Ders Apr 5, 2026 +64
Love this show but it kinda seemed to go off the rails at some point
64
epraider Apr 5, 2026 +62
I personally still enjoy it even though it’s lost some of the magic. At a minimum the first two seasons are worth the watch, those are some of the best TV I’ve ever seen
62
The_O_Nee_Ders Apr 5, 2026 +16
The first 2-3 seasons are fantastic TV
16
VanquishChaos Apr 5, 2026 +13
Up till modern times it was really good, I think that alternate history bit was what made it special
13
solarnoise Apr 5, 2026 +44
Danny. It went off the rails with the Danny situation and didn't recover for like 2 seasons.
44
improbablywronghere Apr 6, 2026 +7
I am a long timer lover of this show and f*** man why did you have to remind me of Danny. That’s absolutely when the show was off the rails
7

The rails are for cowards.

Pluto-Had-It-Coming Apr 5, 2026 +13
I wish it could have fewer instances of  conflict/drama/tension where those problems are massive issues where people die horrible deaths.

Bad Monkey was fun
127
fancycwabs Apr 5, 2026 +38
Scroll all the way to the bottom before anyone likes Bad Monkey. Look, I like Slow Horses and Murderbot as much as anyone but Bad Monkey is better than it has any right to be.
38
superkt3 Apr 5, 2026 +16
I was so surprised to not see anyone recommending Bad Monkey! My whole office watched and loved it
16
Broad-Half3135 Apr 5, 2026 +6
Glad I’m not the only one who liked it 😂
6
I_Like_Quiet Apr 6, 2026 +15
It really was. Maybe for people who haven't watched it, they should go in with low expectations. Its basically Vince Vaughn being Vince Vaughn
15
LordChaosBaelish Apr 6, 2026 +12
I went and expected it to be trash. It was fun for what it was and a stupid good time. I think the narration was the right move for the show.

Not a show but Black Bird was exceptional.
58
CatsCatsDoges Apr 5, 2026 +19
It is a show, but it’s just a mini series isn’t it?
19
LordChaosBaelish Apr 6, 2026 +9
There is a lot of quality on these shows, but Black Bird might be the best of the bunch. Paul Walter Hauser stole the show, very well acted and a tight story.
9
salsblueberries Apr 5, 2026 +55
Emily Dickinson season 1 is a great watch. I didn’t love the other two seasons as much.
55
Locke108 Apr 5, 2026 +13
I thought season two was the best. It also has one of my favorite episodes in the last ten years. Season 3 has another one but overall it’s not as good as 1 and 2.
13
GreenerMark Apr 5, 2026 +26
Slow Horses, Bad Sisters, Tehran, For All Mankind, The Morning Show, Trying, Dept Q, Down Cemetery Road, Murderbot, Lessons in Chemistry

repuselkcip Apr 5, 2026 +61
The first couple seasons were. The final season had a noticable drop in quality
61
Nreekay Apr 6, 2026 +5
I think they got got in s3 from going from setting up a s4 to Nevermind we are done half way through the season.
5
RagnarokNCC Apr 6, 2026 +7
The first season and the Covid specials are absolutely incredible. The first time I’ve ever felt like a creative team had even a passing idea what it’s actually like to make games. And then - despite some banger episodes throughout - it just never makes good on that promise for the rest of the run. But that first season and those two specials - top tier
7
BorkStimpson Apr 5, 2026 +19
It was okay. I say that as a big Sunny/McElhenney fan. Some GREAT episodes in between mostly boring storylines.

It’s one of my favorite Apple shows, but please do yourself a favor and go into it completely blind.
8
bicoolano Apr 6, 2026 +8
Don't read anything about the show and go into it blind.
8
havewelost6388 Apr 5, 2026 +108
Not sure if it's obscure, but Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
108
captain_wetbeard Apr 5, 2026 +35
It has no business actually being that good. Genuinely care about the characters, who'd of thunk that would be the case! Guess all it took was good writing!
35
Another_Stranger_Me Apr 6, 2026 +8
Dude for real. Every episode is like a major motion picture. I didn't think we would get any Kaiju or if we did they would be kind of concealed or something very Cloverfield. But it is just as good as any Godzilla movie. Also I absolutely love that Kurt Russell and his spitting image son are playing the same character.
8
Ssladybug Apr 5, 2026 +11
Just started season 2. Amazing writing and quality
11
Starbuck522 Apr 5, 2026 +36
Murderbot. Which is based on a book series
36
wtfnevermind Apr 5, 2026 +71
Loot!
71
Scutage Apr 6, 2026 +13
It’s disappointing that hardly anyone mentions Loot. It has such a good comedy pedigree. Created and written by a bunch of people who wrote for Parks & Rec, and a few who wrote for 30 Rock, The Good Place, Brooklyn 99, Community, and Superstore. It also has a brilliant cast including Maya Rudolph, Nat Faxon and Ron Funches. Apple TV sucks at promoting its own content, and I think Loot got the shortest straw.
13
crimson777 Apr 5, 2026 +5
As a former nonprofit worker, there’s a lot of reality there too. Some not so much but I felt a lot of it deeply haha.
5
DaveMoTron Apr 5, 2026 +15
We’ve been enjoying Hijack quite a bit
15
Shermanator92 Apr 5, 2026 +87
Just the sheer amount of shows listed in this thread is insane. Apple TV’s quality is unmatched. Never thought we’d get here when it was announced. For the question: I’d go with The Morning Show. Really fun ride.
87
ian9outof10 Apr 5, 2026 +20
I just marathoned The Morning Show. It’s a high-class soap, but goddamn is it entertaining.
20
kevin2fla Apr 5, 2026 +33
It's what HBO used to be.
33
kingcolbe Apr 6, 2026 +5
Well, I’ll be joining that ride for season five but it’s only cause of one person lol
5
junaidnk Apr 5, 2026 +27
The S series- Slow Horses, Silo, Severance, See, Shrinking. For All Mankind to sprinkle some space
27

Add Sugar in there. I was very surprised by it.
10
SacralScenes Apr 5, 2026 +30
Can’t believe no one has mentioned **Physical** yet. Rose Byrne is absolutely killer, the performances are compelling, and the subject matter is visceral.
30

Nobody likes Servant?
29
midwestfeline Apr 5, 2026 +8
i did!
8
theodo Apr 5, 2026 +13
Black Bird for sure.
13
KennyShowers Apr 5, 2026 +24
Slow Horses is probably their most critically acclaimed, fantastic show. Dark Matter and Foundation are more than worth watching if you like their brands of sci-fi. Pachinko is top notch pure drama. Friends and Neighbors I wouldn’t say is a heavy hitter, I enjoyed it fine enough and they clearly have a decent amount invested in it but the reaction has been closer to lukewarm than glowing.
24
CosmosisJones90 Apr 5, 2026 +25
All the suggestions are great. Only one I don’t see suggested is The Studio.
25
Tony__T Apr 5, 2026 +11
Murderbot. Slow Horses.
11
BruteSentiment Apr 5, 2026 +12
Okay, one that usually isn’t among the top “obscure” relies you’ll get: Bad Monkey! By Ted Lawrence (y’know, from Ted Lasso and Shrinking), it’s an offbeat and humorous show that has Vince Vaughn being just the right amount of himself to stay funny and not be unlikable, has a huge cast that are all fun, and a pretty good plot. This one feels more like Scrubs than either of his other Apple shows, if you liked that show!
12
shelwood46 Apr 5, 2026 +10
Slow Horses, Bad Sister, Central Park, Schmigadoon, Still Up, The Afterparty.
10
StuffonBookshelfs Apr 5, 2026 +11
I have such a soft spot for Central Park. Also, I loved The Afterparty.
11
schneid52 Apr 6, 2026 +10
Bad Monkey with Vince Vaughn was surprisingly good.

Sugar was so fun. I love how weird Colin Farrell gets with his characters.

The Studio, Acapulco, Trying, Murderbot, Stick, The Reluctant Traveller, Mythic Quest, ... Honestly, ATV+ has had so many bangers. There are more I really enjoyed, but that are maybe not a guarantee (Foundation had mixed reviews, but I liked it)

Acapulco is such a delight. And the colors—just so fun to watch.

Apple TV is basically what HBO used to be. You have the heavy hitters, but then consistently great quality in almost every show.

Not sure how obscure it is, but I’ve started watching Dark Matter after reading (and really enjoying) the book. It’s been great so far! And surprisingly faithful to the novel. Only a few episodes in though.

Black Bird is good. I enjoyed it. The screenplay is written by Dennis Lehane. He's a pretty terrific writer.

For All Mankind is glorious. The first two seasons are as close to perfect as you can get.

OP asked for obscure shows And the most upvoted replies are mentioning Pluribus and Slow Horses? 🧐

I think Foundation is the best universal-scale sci-fi show currently airing. I know Isamov fans have issues because it significantly departs from the books, but as a show-only viewer, I’m completely sucked in. I think it is bold and fascinating and has wild ideas and outstanding performances. I have loved every season.
