Any recommendations for movies similar to Interstellar?

Posted by sugardaddyaventurine

Recently rewatched interstellar before seeing project hail mary and totally forgot how incredibly peak interstellar was. After those both im craving more visually stunning movies but also would love to be emotionally wrecked. Either or, rec doesn’t have to do both. I would love space movies too, but anything is rlly fine. And yes i have seen the martian lol

Not exactly space, but aliens, Arrival. Still deals with some similar themes from Interstellar.

Arrival stuns me every time. It's so goddamn beautiful in writing, acting, cinematography, and SFX.

For unique visual spectacle and a divisive script: Ad Astra For a feeling of scale in an emotional sci-fi work: Arrival For the beauty of low Earth orbit: Gravity For a meaningful film on making first contact: Contact For me because I read your post and you totally didn’t say it at the end: Matt Damon’s Red Planet Extravaganza

Perhaps Moon (2009)? It's one of my all time favourite space movies. It's kind of a psychological slow burn, and definitely emotional.

This is what I was gonna recommend.

What about connections? Communication? Afternoon reach? Touch base? Notify? He knows about them, doesn't he?

I wouldn’t count on it

Contact is amazing choice, the radio telescope scenes are incredible from visual perspective. If you want something that will destroy you emotionally try Arrival - not really space but aliens and the way they handle time/language concepts is mind-bending. Also check Annihilation if you haven't, very weird and beautiful but also deeply unsettling in best way possible

I can't stand Interstellar but I would recommend Contact and Gattaca

Wait now im curious why dont u like interstellar

I feel like Nolan movies are all style, no substance. Characters and story exist only to maneuvre us from one set piece to another.

yeah i can see that

Not a movie but The Expanse is generally celebrated for being brutally realistic about life in outer space (e.g., not being able to help out in a battle because it took 45min for news to reach you that it was even happening), while also having a great story and excellent cast. As for movies, Moon and Contact are both really solid.

Inspirations for Interstellar, go with 2001: A Space Odyssey or my personal favorite Silent Running.

you should check out "Arrival" if you haven't seen it yet, it’s got that emotional punch with some mind-bending sci-fi twists. also, "Gravity" is a visual masterpiece, might hit the spot for the stunning visuals!

Contact for sure. I've never seen it, but most would say 2001

2001 won't leave you emotionally wrecked.  It kinda tries to, then decides to just confuse the hell out of you, then it ends.

No one's mentioned Closr Encounters of the Third Kind so I'll mention Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It's an oldie but has the vibe. Go in blind if you've never seen it. No trailers, maybe a synopsis at most. Total popcorn lights down kinda movie.

Seconding a lot of the recs here. That whole realistic but depressing tone is kinda rare but hits hard when done right.
