Anyone else relate to skipping to the last season or episode of a TV show?

Posted by Sad_Username_365

Watching the entire show feels like too much of an investment and I get bored. I’ve completed shows before, but often times I skip around to the last season of a show. I enjoy not knowing about every plot point and trying to fill in the gaps or simply laugh at the chaos with no context.

Unfortunately I can’t relate to anything less lol. I love getting lost in shows. I often want *more*. So there’s no way I’m going to skip a bunch of seasons or episodes.

I put in about 12 seasons of Supernatural and love my boys, but don't think I can slog through 60-70 episodes to see how it all ends. And I feel guilty just watching the last few episodes, 'caise I'll miss the trials and travails that got them there. Oh well.

I like to think that the fun of the story just goes on and on, and I really hate bad endings

There was a podcast that did this, but I couldn't imagine doing it myself.

Depends on the show. Some stuff you just miss and it’s easier to jump on at the end. Sometimes I don’t want to do all the back work and just catch up with the popular thing, and then I will just watch the newest episodes.

How old are you? I notice my daughter does this. I suspect it's part of the generation that grew up being able to skip around a TV show. I will say though that I rewatched Dawsons Creek with my wife who's never seen it and I barely remember anything except for the ending. We skipped an episode or two that had nothing to do with the plot and was just some shallow Halloween episode. Also when I rewatch the sopranos I skip the nightmare\\dream sequences they are just boring to me.

Me being Gen Z definitely plays a role in why I’m like this. I’m in my early 20’s and almost every show I’ve watched has come from Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, Paramount, and HBO Max. I don’t enjoy waiting a whole week before I can watch the next episode, it frustrates me. That’s probably not a good thing but at least I save time.

Yea this is my daughter’s age range makes sense. I do agree with you about not waiting week to week for a tv show though. I won’t even start a show until the season is completely done or at least only one episode left. One of the greatest things Netflix ever did was remove commercials and drop a whole season at once for their shows.

I've done it with a few shows, the latest being silicon valley then went back and watched it all. Did it with my fiancee with Seinfeld, she never watched it before aside from a few episodes (I know, I know but loved watching them all with her together, some episodes I haven't seen since it aired originally). One time I did it on accident with the man in the high castle. Watched the first two episodes then somehow was plopped in the last season. I was so confused because I was unaware..I never went back to finish it watch it :(

I feel like most shows tend to get worse in the later seasons, so I'm not sure why I'd want to start there. On the flip side, if it does have a good final season, I'd be going into it with zero investment in the characters and setting, so a lot of the good aspects would be lost. I don't see the appeal outside of maybe a few specific scenarios.

I feel like when I drop a show it's almost always a slow waning interest with me meaning to get back to it at some point so nah I can't really relate. If I ever were to decisively realise I couldn't be bothered continuing then I could see this being fun however.  Reminds me a bit of an old blog where a guy documented his experience watching Breaking Bad for the first time in reverse order. I did once try to watch Scream Queens on a questionable website where the episodes were listed in reverse order. I got about 20 minutes into the final episode of the first season before realising that it wasn't just a very bold example of in media res.

If I don't like a show I don't really care how it ends

I’ve stopped watching tv shows sometimes if I can’t get into them and I’ll lookup the ending

I could never watch a show and then not finish it, what's the point then? I've dropped shows before but that's different than just not finishing something on purpose. However, rewatching I don't always watch everything. I rewatched The OC a few years ago and skipped all of season 3 except the first and last episode (I could probably watch one or two in the middle, to introduce Kaitlin Cooper better since she's in season 4) and if I were to rewatch The 100, I'd stop after the season 5 finale.

I've done this with shows I've given up watching. Skip right to the last ten minutes. House of Cards. Dexter (before Res). Heroes. Arrow The Flash.

Yes I did that with House of Cards, I watched the first season up to the part where he threw Zoey on the train tracks, and then watched the final few episodes of the season. I also tried to watch all of Handmaids Tale and in that case the show just made me really angry rather than bored.

This is like flipping to the last page of a book and then reverse-engineering the plot. If you like that chaos, try watching just season premieres and finales of each season.

I don’t do that with books like I do with TV shows, I’m about to read ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ and don’t plan on skipping. I’m not a big time book reader either, I usually only read non-fiction science and psychology books and rarely read non-fiction for fun. The Hunger Games series is an exception. The build up of the plot is necessary for continuity in book or show but it can make things boring, like omg just get it on already. That’s especially true with relationship drama.
