AOC Commits to Opposing ‘Any Spending on Arms for Israel,’ Including Iron Dome | Common Dreams
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's bold stance against military funding for Israel is a powerful rejection of oppressive policies. Will other Democrats follow her lead? Ocasio-Cortez's unwavering commitment is the leadership Democratic voters want.

gavin newsom take notes bud
1

Gavin's future is in podcasting, not politics... so he doesn't have to worry about taking these notes.

He wants the dem presidential nom so bad
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
Can’t wait to watch him shit the bed come primary season
1
genescheezesthatpls Apr 1, 2026 +1
We lower/middle class Californians know his game well at this point. All this stuff, the Trump trolling, trying to seem like a voice of reason. It’s all an act. He’s deeply sympathetic to the wealthy and more than happy to capitulate to them.
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah I know I live there. The only people that praise him don’t live here.
1
genescheezesthatpls Apr 1, 2026 +1
You get it
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
I take that back. There was a 50 something year old lady who made many statements that indicated she lived in a bubble who wholeheartedly beloved he was very popular. This was in San Francisco, but still.
1
genescheezesthatpls Apr 1, 2026 +1
There’s a lot of really red bubbles in CA, mostly in the very wealthy areas
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
I wouldn’t call them bubbles, but there are concentrations of historically Republican voters. I live in one of the wealthiest zip codes. People here are very moderate on a day to day basis for the most part. There are diehard crazies from both sides, but they are few and far between. The richer areas are far more civilized and articulate when it comes to politics, at least in my personal experience.
1
_deedeemegadoodoo Apr 1, 2026 +1
I'm a Californian and I know a handful of people who support him, but they all pay attention to politics on an extremely surface level (at best). But yeah, he's disliked by the majority. I've been sick of holding my nose to vote for him, and I'm going to have a difficult time if it comes to that in November 2028.
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why on gods green earth would you vote for him? His policies are shit, through and through. He’s a disingenuous man who’s only in it for himself. He’s a PR nightmare. Do you really want a second trump in office, but this time with a d next to his name instead of in kids?
1
genescheezesthatpls Apr 1, 2026 +1
It’s so exhausting having to always vote for my second least favorite choice
1
Dr4gonfly Apr 1, 2026 +1
Gavin would have to pick a fight with PG&E for me to considered him
1
genescheezesthatpls Apr 1, 2026 +1
Just think if he cared he would’ve done something years ago
1
sociotronics Apr 1, 2026 +1
He will flop harder than Beto did.
1
genescheezesthatpls Apr 1, 2026 +1
At least his hair helmet will help protect him
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I mean yeah, but at least he is willing to piss off the people actively oppressing us, is he my first choice? Come one. Is he a choice? Not at this juncture, elections still have to happen.
1
plightro Apr 1, 2026 +1
I'd rather teach a good candidate how to hire a couple of run of the mill social media people than try to teach a guy with a couple of social media people how to be a good candidate.
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah, weve been doing this charade for over a decade? The dude isn't even polling as a favorable, in fact the people who are favored are hardly even online. The internet and terminally online politically consumed people are not the core demographic when it comes to voting, im sorry, I know we think what happens online matters but half the time the majority of numbers being flaunted are absolute bullshit, bots are everywhere and honestly the tanking of whatever candidate could be before it happens is a bit astro-turfy.
1
a_talking_face Apr 1, 2026 +1
>bots are everywhere and honestly the tanking of whatever candidate could be before it happens is a bit astro-turfy. I actually don't believe it's bots or astro turfing. I think liberals look at MAGA and genuinely think the reason Trump is so successful is because everyone that votes for him must be doing it in spite of him and are just doing it as some form of unity. They ignore two things. The fact that the Trump campaign knew how to message to the average voter and that he won his nomination in 2016 because of this. Instead they're looking at someone doing a Trump impression and think that will be appealing to people.
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Agreed, to an extent I believe theyre riled up by the bots to remain ineffective against actually fighting the great up vs down that literally 299.99Million people want.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 1, 2026 +1
lol he’s currently fighting a wealth tax on the people oppressing us He oppressed homeless people out of all of their belongings He agrees with Israel oppressing their non-Jewish citizenry He loves veto’ing bills to help Trans people fight oppression
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Your last statement there opressed logic. Save the energy for the oligarchs at your door pal.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 1, 2026 +1
You mean the oligarchs that Newsom is big buds with?
1
knucklesuck Apr 1, 2026 +1
Keep up the great work being a keyboard warrior for corporate dems buddy, you're doing great. Hope you're getting paid at least
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Nah, its just hilarious to see how quick the terminally online left will blame everything but the actual problem because purity or whatever.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 1, 2026 +1
What’s the “actual problem?”
1
ThaBigClemShady24 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He's one of the oppressors. The dude literally personally destroyed a homeless encampment with glee.
1
ButtEatingContest Apr 1, 2026 +1
He made a big stink about ICE and the national guard being deployed in California, but when it was the LAPD acting out, he was perfectly fine with that.
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
F*** the homeless encampments. I’m tired of having to step over needles and avoid belligerent tweakers on my walk to work in the morning.
1
ArCovino Apr 1, 2026 +1
I’m all for helping the homeless but people who don’t deal with it regularly have no clue how it works. No one knows how to fix the problem. People have a right to live their lives without having an altercation on the way to work. People think we are exaggerating but last month I had to help a naked homeless man get dressed and pick up all his strewn-about shit just to drive to work because he set up camp against my garage door. Floppy, sweaty d*** in my face while I’m running late to work.
1
EX0PIL0T Apr 1, 2026 +1
I’m all for helping those who want the help. The dregs that come to California to be homeless because of the lenient policies and those who choose to continue to live their lives in squalor despite many attempts to help through outreach and social programs belong in asylums or some other type of incarceration where they don’t have the freedom to continue to choose to be a detriment to decent people.
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Killing and genociding all of the said homeless people id assume right? Right?.. oh. Not like that oppression, got it. Well, how far did he deport them?
1
meTspysball Apr 1, 2026 +1
Is he though? He trolls Trump, but he’s not really interested in taking on the oligarchy that put Trump in place.
1
Bulky_Preparation768 Apr 1, 2026 +1
And his trolling seemingly doesn’t even register with Trump, who is a giant man baby that constantly lashes out against anyone that actually gets under his skin
1
koopa00 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He doesn't even troll Trump, he hires a social media manager to do that. When you hear him in interviews and compare that to what is posted online, they are clearly disconnected and not the same person. It's just marketing.
1
No-Significance5449 Apr 1, 2026 +1
You want a silver bullet? Is he like suppose to be a dictator to and not just one part of a giant system?

Let Israel fight their own wars.
1
notmyworkaccount5 Apr 1, 2026 +1
We need all dems to get on board with this and it isn't even a hard argument to make especially when this issue is polling, what 80/20 with dems right now? The narrative needs to be something like why are we sending this nation that continually drags us into conflicts in the middle east billions of our dollars so they can bomb their neighbors while our same politicians tell us we can't afford to feed children or have healthcare? We should have started pulling back years ago but you know the saying, the second best time to plant a tree is right now.
1
MurtaghInfin8 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Insert is this a butterfly meme: is this America first?
1
ganashi Apr 1, 2026 +1
This is why Israel is one of my two litmus tests for candidates (along with m4a). If they won’t buck their donors on an issue that 80% of the base agrees on, they will NEVER buck their donors for you.
1
notmyworkaccount5 Apr 1, 2026 +1
The Ta-Nehisi Coates quote; "If democrats won't draw the line at genocide they won't draw the line at democracy" has been resonating with me the past few months. I feel like a big aspect of why we're in this mess is the dems have constantly been willing to meet in the middle and be bipartisan with the republicans my entire adult life. If dems genuinely think the republican party is a threat to not just democracy but minority groups; which I do think they are, then they just cannot be bipartisan with them because how can you find a middle ground or a compromise with a group that seeks to destroy you?
1
ArCovino Apr 1, 2026 +1
I’m glad you acknowledge that story you made is is entirely a narrative you want to spread.

>The narrative needs to be something like why are we sending this nation that continually drags us into conflicts in the middle east Um... Are there any other instances? Iraq and Afghanistan were all Bush. Yemen was Saudi Arabia. Syria, I don't even know, Israel wasn't involved. Libya, also not related to Israel. So... You must have many many examples if the US is "continually" dragged in. Right?
1
somermike Apr 1, 2026 +1
You need another 250 or so members of Congress from either party to reject corporate and dark PAC money before things that poll 80/20 have that same support in the Legislative branch.
1
Content-Award-9574 Apr 1, 2026 +1
They are afraid of losing that sweet AIPAC money which is basically our tax dollars anyway.
1
ratbaby86 Apr 1, 2026 +1
And while they (Isr) have free healthcare and education. If Isr wants to go around with their hat in hand, fine. But pretending Americans should sacrifice for Isr's defense when they're not willing to cut their social programs and divert it to the military industrial complex (the American way!) is simply bullshit and idgaf about sending them any defensive arms -- and certainly none for free anymore under any circumstances--for the shitshow they created if theyre not even willing to force their population to do more with less.

1
Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 1, 2026 +1
A bold move in *these* times? - gestures wildly at everything. We are literally seeing genocide after genocide from Israel's side on our phones, I think it's a smart move and one that more democrats will adopt if the US wants to stop being a complicit pariah state.
1

bkny88 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yea this is totally moronic. Iron dome prevents more destruction. Before 10/7, rockets were fired, quickly intercepted, and the IDF wasn’t responding to every rocket fired. This was essentially “managing” the conflict, and preventing operations in Gaza and Lebanon. Post 10/7 there is a different doctrine in Israel, but it’s a different conversation to have.
1
ddr1ver Apr 1, 2026 +1
The amount of money the US spends to enable Israeli war crimes sickens me.
1
ke3408 Apr 1, 2026 +1
It's not just the money you see. The government also passed a tax treaty that allows taxpayers to deduct charitable donations to Israeli organizations. There are only two other countries that have that status, Mexico and Canada. Think about how much money wealthy Americans have been pumping into funding settlers and the IDF. Which in turn means that American taxpayers have to make up for the shortfall in taxes after deductions, so we are essentially subsiding the entire country.

She has never voted to fund arming Israel
1
yeetedandfleeted Apr 1, 2026 +1
She has, she voted for funding defensive capabilities, hence why Iron Dome is called out in the title. She's voted against arms but providing defensive capabilities includes missiles for the Iron Dome and also incentivizing them to pursue offensive capabilities if the US is footing the bill for defense. She doubled down on it. She got criticized for it, and she's taking that criticism and adjusting her stance - that's good. No one is immune to mistakes.
1
blazesquall Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why do you think the 'including Iron dome' is in the title?
1
FrogsOnALog Apr 1, 2026 +1

What would happen if we just stopped sending Israel all money? They might try harder to learn how to live in the neighborhood. They couldn’t possibly get more ugly and violent.
1
Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 1, 2026 +1
They would be humbled.
1
BlatantFalsehood Apr 1, 2026 +1
I want to see a commitment to not spend any money on Israel, period. Not just for arms. Why on earth would we give any funding to a fully developed country whose citizens have universal healthcare when we don't? When they're committing genocide?
1
Triuwaz Apr 1, 2026 +1
It's really important to her that more missiles get through.
1
timnphilly Apr 1, 2026 +1
Good - why should we help fund a nation whose people have free healthcare, to say nothing of its Netanyahu criminal-in-charge!
1
ArCovino Apr 1, 2026 +1
I want to see everyone’s excuses as to why they want to see more deaths. The idea that this is saving lives is naive and ignorant to the geopolitical reality.
1
jankdangus Apr 1, 2026 +1
I actually disagree with this, but given how Israel dragged us in another disastrous war in the Middle East, they should have seen it coming.
1
CzPhantom1 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Hamas fired 19,000 low tech missiles at them in 2023. I don't think I could support cutting off iron dome funding. I would 100% support no offensive funding.
1
dehydratedrain Apr 1, 2026 +1
The bigger question here is why they need American funding. Especially when they've just started attacking Iran.
1
mmmmm_pancakes Apr 1, 2026 +1
They *don’t* need it. We do it mostly as a giveaway to the US arms industry, and partly as a cheaper way to achieve military aims than using our own military. They’re planning on refusing the next direct military aid deal anyway to stop holding back their own industry and because this dependency narrative is so harmful.
1
rhombergnation Apr 1, 2026 +1
yep.. what I’ve learned of late is the deal may actually be way more beneficial to the US than to Israel.
1
ArCovino Apr 1, 2026 +1
Isn’t it interesting that the people who supposedly want peace are seemingly fine with more deaths.
1
Kronzypantz Apr 1, 2026 +1
So Israel gets to avoid actually negotiating peace indefinitely?
1
dazedandloitering Apr 1, 2026 +1
Don’t you think cutting off funding would make them think twice before they try to take over the Middle East?
1
Main-Bandicoot6477 Apr 1, 2026 +1
At the very least, why can't Israel fund their iron dome themselves? Maybe if they had to bear the cost of their own defense more, maybe the hardliners and warmongers in their government might pay more of a political price for their actions.
1
juiceboxheero Apr 1, 2026 +1
Does the Iron Dome not enable Israeli aggression? They bomb with impunity knowing that they are effectively protected.
1
djhab Apr 1, 2026 +1
Israel steal land and kill innocent people for 75 years. I don't think I could support defending those monsters.
1
rupturedprolapse Apr 1, 2026 +1
Iron dome was meant to stop exactly what's happening now which is Israel overreacting and flattening their neighbors. If it's not serving that purpose anymore so I don't see any point in funding it. If they want to wage a forever war, they can pay for it themselves.
1
soalone34 Apr 1, 2026 +1
So why don’t they fund it themselves? Maybe if they had to cut into other things they’d think twice about locking 2 million people in a ghetto and funding hamas.
1
PhoenixTineldyer Apr 1, 2026 +1
How about they fund it their f****** selves. Or, alternatively, if they want our taxpayer money that we could be spending on our citizens, they can stop mass murdering people
1
starliteburnsbrite Apr 1, 2026 +1
Anyone taking Israeli money should register as a foreign agent. Especially now that AIPAC has begun to splinter into unrecognizable PACs now that people are finally catching on.
1
Efficient_Resist_287 Apr 1, 2026 +1
This is it…
1
Competitive-Yak-3785 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I don’t understand why they can’t pay for their own defense? Their people even have free healthcare. We don’t even provide that for our own people.
1
WasteDifficulty5961 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Finally someone with balls
1
KrR_TX-7424 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I would vote for her in the next presidential election. She is correct. The current Israeli government is acting like a rogue nation. See what is happening in Lebanon now - a land grab while the world's attention has been turned toward Iran. Like Russia is doing in Ukraine. We should not be tied to either country.
1
FizzyFuzzyBign-Buzzy Apr 1, 2026 +1

Fair. Honestly I hope Democrats allow a bit more diversity when it comes to some topics. Israel and abortion are probably the two biggest ones in my opinion. It would be great if Democrats could capitalize on the different cultures to win more seats and bring single payer healthcare and a living wage to the country. Single issue voters exist.
1
Count_Backwards Apr 1, 2026 +1
Abortion isn't something Democrats should be compromising on
1
therosx Apr 1, 2026 +1
I personally agree. But at the same time there I believe that there are districts that Democrats can flip if the party agrees to respect their decision. I want more Democrats to be elected. That’s how I think they do it.
1
OnionPastor Apr 1, 2026 +1
It would be a lot easier to be against this if Israel didn’t have UHC. They can afford their own defenses until we have UHC.
