The fact that they gave Taron the Australian accent and had the South African born Charlize do an American accent is weird to me lol.

And now I'm thinking it would be more fun if the actors switched roles with Charlize playing the psycho predator.

not sure you could call it full on villain (before the inevitable have to fight together with one of the "family" to make it out of a different villains trap), but she was an antagonist in the F & F films

I erased her hideous hairstyles in those movies from my mind. Guess she's played a bunch of villains in her career.

She plays a serial killer in the movie Monster and she’s basically unrecognizable in the role, really great performance.

I don’t think that would be better for the vast majority of the general audience. There’s a clear difference in the way people feel about a creepy guy following a woman alone in the wild vs the other way around.

Waste-Scratch2982Mar 25, 2026

Charlize doesn't have an South African accent from all her interviews, if she does she code-switches and hides it from the public. It's like how Eva Green only speaks in a British accent now despite being French
12
DrGarriousMar 25, 2026

You are right. Had a family member work on this and she doesn't have an accent anymore at all.
3
DoomguyFemboiMar 26, 2026
+1
iirc she doesn't have one. She didn't know any English when she came to the US and she learned it without developing a South African accent. Which is wild because English is really prevalent there..
..Which makes me wonder how true this is. Why is this rattling around in my head. One of those things I may or may not have heard/read at some point over the last few decades so it wedged into my brain like a tick.
EDIT googled it. Could've done that beforehand. But here we are.
> Theron was born in Benoni, a suburb 40km (25 miles) east of Johannesburg, and moved to the US almost 30 years ago.
> She said she didn’t speak English until she was 19 because “nobody” in her predominantly Afrikaans neighbourhood spoke it.
