$961.6 billion in the DoD's budget this year and they can't pay for training. These people are an absolute joke.

AutoDefenestrator273 May 13, 2026 +4540
Right? They can't pass an audit and now they can't pay for training. Where the shit is the money going?

We’re already an Oligarchy, we’re only deciding if it’s a _fascist_ one or not

AppleAtrocity May 13, 2026 +606
Oh it absolutely already is, they just haven't put the pedal to the floor yet because they're saving that for the midterms.
606
alexacto May 13, 2026 +290
What do you mean? The pedal is very much hitting the floor. Louisiana election cancelled, Virginia redistricting cancelled while red states redistricts went ahead. It's pretty obvious we are soon to be a one party state with a king at the top.
290
FreeUsePolyDaddy May 13, 2026 +74
King is just what they are willing to make jokes about. WFC God-Emperor is the ultimate goal. He just needs a little more time to soften up the Evangelicals so they warm to the idea.
74
kingjuicer May 13, 2026 +28
They are already softening. His gold statue recently unvailed was justified by the presiding pastor because "it's not a calf"
28
Acceptable-Bus-2017 May 14, 2026 +8
I don't think the fact it was a calf was the problem, but I'm no theologian

If the midterms still have weight that they are concerned about, then we're not there yet.
80
Painbow_High_And_Bi May 13, 2026 +64
This. If it was a foregone conclusion they wouldn't be fighting this hard. It WILL be a foregone conclusion if they can convince enough people to stay home bc they believe their vote doesn't matter. The defeatist mindset itself should be one of our primary enemies going into the midterms.

Churchill? What have you been smoking. It was Oscar Wilde. I looked it up. Earliest published instance verified is Leonard Lyons, cloumnist for the New York Post in 1936.

28
amdufrales May 13, 2026 +15
Fascism and authoritarianism are used interchangeably by a lot of people, but iirc the term fascism was coined to mean a total merge of corporate interest and state power.

We are quite literally post-Soviet already.

Surely it's coincidental that Trump also juiced the budget for the US drone program by 24 THOUSAND percent, from $226 Million to $54 Billion...
80
hotinhawaii May 13, 2026 +29
And it is also coincidental that Trump's sons are now part owners of a domestic drone company that supplies the US military, whose focus is on purchasing domestic-built drones.

Lucrative contracts for businesses aligned with the Trump family. Also in some cases businesses owned by the Trump family: [https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/drone-company-stock-soars-appointing-donald-trump-jr-advisory-board-rcna181987](https://www.nbcnews.com/business/business-news/drone-company-stock-soars-appointing-donald-trump-jr-advisory-board-rcna181987)

According to recent reports it's lobster and steak dinners, grand pianos, and one of a kind flutes. This is corruption on a level that throwing more money isnt going to fix - the problems isnt not enough, the problem is too much to sensibly use.
87
SofaKingStewPadd May 13, 2026 +27
Gawd I hope the orange shit stain expires before he can issue blanket immunity. Not that any subsequent government would bring any of these criminals to justice. Gotta heal and move forward and all that. But it's nice to dream sometimes.

And have wrecked our cybersecurity while they ruin any legitimacy we had. It’s amazing how stupid these people are. We got some smart people but they clearly enjoy being on their knees too much
25
VelvetElvis May 13, 2026 +15
There's a long tradition of giving enlisted troops on deployment a fancy dinner as a morale booster occasionally. Given that most of their cafeterias are contracted out Aramark, the same people who do food for a lot of schools, hospitals and prisons, I have zero problem with giving them a break from the slop every now and then. That's assuming that's actually where it's going, of course.
15
digger70chall May 13, 2026 +17
On the ship that was usually a sign that they were about to drop some terrible news about extending deployment over the 1MC.
17
0b0011 May 13, 2026 +50
From my experience shitty contracts. We had a big inspection for my ship like a decade back. I got stuck on some stupid work crew going around checking every rack (bunk style bed) to make sure they still had all of their screws. We reported to the ship's XO (executive officer. second in command) that there were like 40 missing and he came in the next day with a box from home depot with the missing screws and told them to put them in the missing spots but keep quiet because he paid 10 cents a piece for the screws but when he looked into ordering them after I told him it turns out we had a contract saying we had to buy them from one specific company and they wanted $11 each for them.
50
yamsyamsya May 13, 2026 +28
It's because the contracts are a scam to enrich defense contractors
28
tehlemming May 13, 2026 +20
This is not necessarily the fault of the contractor charging this much for the screws, but the regulation that requires the screws be bought from them and the 14 layers of bureaucracy that have a hand in the transaction as well. People will shit on contractors all day, and that's fine, but the dod welfare program isn't 100% outward spend. A lot of government jobs also exist only to be jobs.
20
Narrow-Chef-4341 May 13, 2026 +7
Which probably worked on bunks, but is how people find c**** contractors that use drywall screws on outdoor siding, only to see it fall off after two years… *sigh* The gap between ’yeah, that’s legit’ and ‘trust me bro’ is sadly wide.

Well, Republican voters wanted them to run the country like a business, and they got exactly what they wanted. It turns out, none of them thought it would be run like a Trump business.
372
AdjNounNumbers May 13, 2026 +161
Might be even worse than that. It looks like it's being run by a private equity firm. Run like a trump business would just involve going bankrupt, but this looks a lot more like they're stripping the corpse by taking anything of value on their way out
161
deathrictus May 13, 2026 +20
Or worse, a private equity firm run by Trump.
20
Liizam May 13, 2026 +9
Dude it be better at this point. This is just fraud.  In business there is at least some accountability
9
FlirtyFluffyFox May 13, 2026 +15
They just wanted all the opaqueness and executive profit of running a business, not the risks of bankruptcy!
15
JaneksLittleBlackBox May 13, 2026 +5
>It turns out, none of them thought it would be run like a Trump business. You'd think after the government shut down twice a year apart during his first ~~administration~~ dumpster fire, they'd remember how fuckin' awful he was at running profitable businesses. But they also "forgot" how much they hate pedophiles once the obvious was made public with the Epstein files, so I guess I shouldn't expect too much
5
redyellowblue5031 May 13, 2026 +127
They’re asking to increase that to 1.5 TRILLION for next year. In a single year more than 50% increase. No doubt it’ll pass.
127
QbertsRube May 13, 2026 +35
And the people who voted for No New Wars and good old "Republican fiscal conservatism" will no doubt defend that budget increase angrily and loudly if you question it.
35
redyellowblue5031 May 13, 2026 +17
Been that way as long as I’ve been alive at least.
17
UnluckyAd27 May 13, 2026 +44
Which is disgusting because we all know how much of that will effectively be used while vets sit homeless on sidewalks and people are going over the debt waterfall just to eat and be housed. Too bad that budget will get eaten up by all the inflation numb-nuts has caused. Oh and the bad math they seem to be so accustomed to applying to things
44
Nukemanrunning May 13, 2026 +205
The issue is its due to who payed for all the National Guard Deployments: the DOD or the National Guard Bureau. The NGB had its normal training, events and other stuff planned out like normal with some money lefted over for riots. It wasnt expecting so much used of the NG with the Feds not paying a cent. So the NGB is broke until next year when they get a new budget.
205
pyyyython May 13, 2026 +185
Man, nothing says “we support the troops” like making them do someone else’s work and then stiffing them when it’s time to pay out. Trash behavior.

20
unfunnysexface May 13, 2026 +11
Story time the continental congress had no way to pay the soldiers in the revolutionary war so they were given IOUs. After the war ended the articles of confederation also made it basically impossible to create federal taxes. Veterans of the war sold their papers to try and get something. Once the constitution was ratified and we had a real country there was debate on how to pay out: pay both parties and make everyone "whole" or pay the holder. Guess what won out? Thank you very much Hamilton.
11
Nukemanrunning May 13, 2026 +7
Well people got payed! Its just who doing the paychecks: the states or the feds. Its like your older brother needing your truck, returning it and making you pay for the gas and taking it to the shop even tho your budget cant afford that. To the gas and shop trips are payed... just you cant do anything now.
7
Sabertooth767 May 13, 2026 +47
Can confirm as a Guardsman I had a school s*** yanked by the NGB. Granted that I can't say for certain that was because of budget, but it happened.
47
Nukemanrunning May 13, 2026 +8
Yeah. Our training year got gutted. I glad due to just getting back from a deployment but still.
8
derangedplague May 13, 2026 +20
It's a feature, not a bug. Also a big bulk of the budget is actually for the defense contractors and arms manufacturers, not our troops.
20
aradraugfea May 13, 2026 +28
Training might include that “the military code of conduct” that they’re denying Kelley his pension for bringing up.
28
Arctic_Chilean May 13, 2026 +23
The Russofication of all aspects of American society is well underway.   US military power will suffer as a result
23
OrangeRadiohead May 13, 2026 +5
Yeah but most of that is being used to help Israel to claim Gaza for themselves and for Trump's holiday resort. Dark times!
5
Wi11Pow3r May 13, 2026 +4
Well our President started a ~~war~~ conflict without getting congressional approval or funding. So I imagine that is draining the Department of War’s funding more than they budgeted for. But it is ok. The ~~conflict~~ war ended at the 60 day mark. So there shouldn’t be a lot more unexpected spending.
4
SofaKingStewPadd May 13, 2026 +2328
So put lackies and sycophants in positions of power, drive out experienced generals and colonels because they won't blindly fall in line, start multiple wars with no clear goals and no exit strategies, expend top tier armament, weapons and equipment without funding to replace them and now give less training to the front liners while simultaneously creating a society made up of poor and desperate people who will join up out of necessity rather than desire or aptitude. The speed run to empire collapse is well ahead of schedule.

Hitler followed this playbook. He centralized power around personal loyalty, weakened and removed senior military leaders who constrained him. Hitler started wars driven by ideology. Especially the invasion of the Soviet Union. On manpower, it’s accurate. Hitler depended on teenagers in the late war, drafted in the 16-60 age range for the final months. You’re describing Hitler.
54
katpillow May 13, 2026 +9
Yes but I feel like it’s insulting to the Wehrmacht to compare. They at least had some competent people running military strategies and operations in the beginning. Not trying to praise Nazi leadership, but even they were more effective than these jerks.

There were three old fashioned, 80s style arcade video game cabinets yesterday in between the World War 2 monument and the Korean War monument, in a little pagoda. They were titled "Operation Epic Furious" with a little plaque with language about how "Trump knows the best way to sell war is to turn it into a video game".  I played it a little. You control Trump and go around and talk to people. When you talk to RFK Jr. Trump says, "Hey Bobby, how's it going" and RFK responds, "I am worm operating this empty Kennedy vessel". Looks like this sub won't let me post pictures of it in the comments.

Kinmuan May 13, 2026 +68
End of the day it’s gonna be a variety of factors. The army submitted a bullshit budget that didn’t properly pay attention to training costs to start. And then we’ve got National Guard, Iran, the border - and the associated increase costs of jet fuel to get people to these trainings. But to be out of money at the end of April? That’s just absurd.
68
FoxyInTheSnow May 13, 2026 +819
Turns out you can't run one of the world's biggest bureaucracies on haircuts, machismo, and vibes alone. Turns out experience running a large organization helps, too. I wouldn't trust this drunk fascist to run a Starbucks. He'd fire all the lgbtq staff and ban lattes (a woke beverage) in the first twenty minutes and the doors would be shut before the morning rush even started.

Im not maga but I genuinely thought this was actually it. I am a veteran and it's almost expected to have something like steak and lobster before a large operation or other major events. So just to be clear… We started a war against all advisement, by every agency and branch of military, without a strategy of any kind. We blew past our budget deadlines, revealed to the world that our version of military is outdated and ineffective, alienated our allies, and now we are saying we don’t have the money to retrain troops with modern military technology (I.e. drones)? Is that about right? So is our plan to just give them a gun and say *”Godspeed”*?

Don't forget wasting ordinance on fishing boats, abducting maduro, deploying national guard to places that it didn't need to be ( they are still standing around in DC ),
68
clycoman May 13, 2026 +26
And the giant waste of money military parae last year.
26
BrothelWaffles May 13, 2026 +19
Giving away that we have a top secret weapon that we used during the Madura operation too, just like when he tweeted out that f****** spy satellite photo during his first term. I'm 100% convinced there are no aliens in any secret military bases because that dumb b****** would have blabbed about it the second he found out.

Da_Question May 13, 2026 +6
Don't be ridiculous. Only one guy gets a gun, the rest of the squad get magazines. When the guy with the gun dies the next person picks it up and continues.
6
Bootytapper420 May 13, 2026 +4
The complete dismantling of a nation. We must make them pay.
4
Stormcloud217 May 13, 2026 +5
Wouldn't be surprised if we went with the Russian plan. For 100 troops they need maybe 30 guns, the other comrades will have to pick up guns as their teammates fall.
5
ThePensiveE May 13, 2026 +137
It's important to note that the Trump family has their grift machine built into the military itself these days. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-04-30/trump-family-backed-drone-firm-signs-weapons-deal-with-us?embedded-checkout=true Every taxpayer dollar this administration gets for the military is being split into two pots of corruption: 1) Corporate welfare for the defense industry (billionaires). 2) The Trump family's pockets.

RainDownAndDestroyMe May 13, 2026 +42
Isn't it amazing how after all the DOGE bullshit, in which many of us were removed from our federal positions that were *actually* helping citizens in order to "cut government waste," these dumb cunts in DC still don't have the money they need? Lmfao. Who ever could have seen that coming?
42
acvcani May 13, 2026 +40
All that f****** money and they still don’t have Enough? 🤬
40
burgundytouch May 13, 2026 +133
Cant make this shit up.
133
aaronhayes26 May 13, 2026 +99
That sucks for the soldiers but they were given a gigantic budget by Congress and they decided to use it to attack Iran and invade US cities. We can’t respond to unauthorized overspending by just writing them another check. Enough is enough.
99
Sunna420 May 13, 2026 +26

nuke_em_danno May 13, 2026 +98
Well the golden ballroom & Israel are a priority
98
geekworking May 13, 2026 +33
These people are shitty enough to cut things that could trigger sympathy for troops as a political ploy. Setup for "If you don't give us $$$$ that we will use to start more illegal wars then you want to see troops die from poor training. Either support this or you hate our troops"
33
Closefacts May 13, 2026 +16
I know an easy way they could have saved $10billion+. Not start a war with Iran.
16
MichaelHunt009 May 13, 2026 +9
No less than $100 billion before it's over.
9
Moon_Archer_0927 May 13, 2026 +61
So the majority of our tax dollars go to military spending…only for the military to still be short. This is intentional.
61
Good-Grayvee May 13, 2026 +12
Holy shit. Someone is siphoning off TONS of taxpayer dollars.

11
PasswordABC123XYZ May 13, 2026 +12
He is running out of those too, because we need rare earth to produces new ones. Who controls the worlds supply of rare earth? BTW 620 patriot missiles were produced last year. I wonder how many we have used.
12
66Hslackerpro May 13, 2026 +9
And the troops will most likely still vote maga
9
Bencil_McPrush May 13, 2026 +22
I can see why this administration loves Putin so much. He's their rolemodel. Who here remembers that old Soviet Era joke about an American diplomat visiting his friend, a Russian diplomat at his mannor? "Buddy, how can you afford this place on your salary?" The Russian points outside the window: "Tovarish, do you see that new bridge over there?" "What bridge?" "Exactly!"
22
Sweaty_Marzipan4274 May 13, 2026 +8
Send ICE to the fronts
8
Se7en_speed May 13, 2026 +8
Read the article, it's somehow worse than the headline implies. The most insulting one is that apparently they have money for flybys of celebrities houses but not for actual training
8
xynith116 May 13, 2026 +8
Republicans with the “We support our troops!” bumper stickers. What a load of horseshit.
8
True_Dragonfruit9573 May 13, 2026 +9
Cool, just announce to our enemies that our troops will be inadequately trained. Awesome
9
another-smelly-hound May 13, 2026 +15
They cut SNAP benefits along with other benefits because they are “waste” yet our $1T military budget can’t pay for Army training? Maybe they should look at the waste and fraud there instead.
15
Mixer-3007 May 13, 2026 +11
Based on recent data from 2025, over **20,000 active-duty military families** and roughly 1.2 million veteran households use SNAP.

jamesvabrams May 13, 2026 +7
You mean "Aaaarmy training, Sir!"?
7
lodemeup May 13, 2026 +7
It seems to me like something as fundamental as troop training shouldn’t be possible to cut back on. Like, food and transport and medical care.
7
sayerofstuffs May 13, 2026 +6
The US really becoming like a Russia 2.0 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️
6
adario7 May 13, 2026 +7
Are saying Musk and DOGE lied? I’m shocked I tell you
7
EightGlow May 13, 2026 +6
But let’s definitely prosecute a war against an enemy on the other side of the planet that cannot reach us, blow up world trade and the oil market, and spend billions of dollars a week to do that.
6
No_Recover8842 May 13, 2026 +7
Lmao “join the army but we can’t train you and you’ll most certainly be deployed to a war you don’t agree with and be killed” great f****** advertising

None of these idiots should be anywhere near these jobs.
6
Spacebotzero May 13, 2026 +6
This is what poor management, leadership, direction , and orders look like. But isn't this to be expected given the current administration? Are we really all shocked that nothing is doing well, in general? I cannot for the life of me think of anything good that has happened since this administration has basically, taken over.
6
FusRoDontEven May 13, 2026 +7
Quickly becoming Russia 2.0
7
mklptrk May 13, 2026 +6
Yeah, who needs training? Or vaccines? Or women soldiers? Or trans soldiers? Or any other “woke” volunteers who may want to enlist when all branches of the military are struggling with recruiting more than ever? This admin is weakening our military at every turn. Regular, everyday citizens, and especially our troops, are more unsafe now than we’ve ever been since… maybe WW2? Even then you could make an argument. Just absolute incompetence, arrogance, and corruption at the highest level. Shameful.
6
LMurch13 May 14, 2026 +5
Man, this administration is just robbing this country blind, and nobody will/can do anything about it.
5
h4ck3r_n4m3 May 13, 2026 +10
Pretty soon they're going to pull a Russia and just use inmates with no training

4
SqBlkRndHole May 13, 2026 +4
>Additionally, expansive National Guard missions, including the ongoing deployment in Washington, D.C., which alone is projected to cost roughly $1.1 billion this year, according to estimates from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Let's not forget these Guards are losing money by not working their normal civilian full time jobs, and the companies they work for are possibly losing money not having them at work.
4
GVArcian May 13, 2026 +6
Imagine having a defense budget bigger than the GDP of most countries and not being able to train your soldiers.
6
rekniht01 May 13, 2026 +9
It's amazing how fast we can go from the world's elite fight force to Russian military level in only 5 years of Trump leadership.
