I hope they're not just toying with our hearts!

Definitely toying with his heart.

Maybe if they get Milius on board it'll be decent, otherwise i'm gonna assume it's gonna be a sack of ass.

He better punch a camel
74
MrExistentialBread Mar 22, 2026 +13
So long as it’s a greying elderly camel so the implication is that it’s the same camel
13

i am waiting since the ending credits frame of the last one
54
despicedchilli Mar 22, 2026 +4
It feels like I just watched it yesterday and went to the video store to ask for the sequel. And of course there was that one kid in school who swore he watched it at his uncle's house.
4
gkn_112 Mar 22, 2026 +3
i also know those rumors lol.

Eupolemos Mar 21, 2026 +92
I hear they're just going to redo the original Barbarian, to play it safe. Jake Gyllenhaal is growing his hair and will play Conan, while Arnie will reprise in Max von Sydow's old role as the king who lost his daughter. Ice Cube will play Thulsa Doom. Millie Bobby Brown is in talks about being Valeria. You heard it here first!

Everyone needs to relax. Arnie has been hitting the gym basically everyday for basically ever. He knows what he’s doing. Also, I’m sure the headline is exaggerating the “brutal” part lol

Are you sure? Because I don't think the multimillionaire, seven-time Mr. Olympia with decades of knowledge and experience in bodybuilding and strength training, who has access to the absolute best health care money can buy as well access to the absolute best coaches, trainers and facilities has *any* idea what he's doing.

average redditor giving health advice: "I'll have you know I triggered the lunk alarm at my local planet fitness once, so I'm basically a legend in the world of fitness. Give me a second and I'll tell you exactly how I'd coach old man Arnie on his fitness journey" *fists a shovel-sized portion of doritos into face hole*
10
LanceThunder Mar 21, 2026 +23
lol you might even be underselling the legendary body builder. i love how reddit seems to think they know better than everyone else no matter how little they know about a topic.if my comments aren't getting downvotes it makes me a little nervous.
23
T-MoneyAllDey Mar 22, 2026 +10
Yeah arnold probably invented half the shit these people think they know
10
Refute1650 Mar 22, 2026 +10
Considering his experience level plus how long he's been doing it and and the relatively short lifespan of a typical body builder, he might be the most experienced body builder to ever live.
10
liam31465 Mar 22, 2026 +4
Top of the mountain for sure. Hard to think of one bodybuilder or even athlete/fitness fanatic that doesn't put Arnold on their Mt. Rushmore. If Ronnie Coleman's calling him the GOAT. He's the GOAT. Undisputed.
4
AshIsGroovy Mar 21, 2026 +19
Arnold is actually a Billionaire.
19
Pink_Fred Mar 21, 2026 +89
Well, it would be brutal for us mere mortals. For Arnie, that's a Tuesday.
89
Daxx22 Mar 21, 2026 +27
Exactly. Brutal for a "normal" 78 year old. Tuesday for Arnie.
27
RadarSmith Mar 21, 2026 +26
I think the brutal part for Arnie might be the PED cocktail. He definitely has the intestinal fortitude to train to his absolute limit for a role, that's beyond question. The question is if his body can take it at 78.
26
SuppressWarnings Mar 21, 2026 +27
He's probably on a less aggressive (than competition training) testosterone replacement therapy and some minor enhancements that he's on all the time.
27
RadarSmith Mar 21, 2026 +20
I sure hope so. He's 78. Being on anything resembling his gear stack at his peak would probably give him a heart attack immediately,
20
SuppressWarnings Mar 21, 2026 +12
Absolutely, but I have to imagine he's already on a regimen that might have been spun up a small bit. He wasn't part of the modern craze, so his cardiac health might be positive enough from being active to make that a smaller concern than other systems, but he's also 78. He's making his choices, and he's not really been shy about doing so before. It'll be an awful day when we lose him, but I hope that he feels the time he has left, however long it is, is spent well. I hope this is a cool reprisal of the character for him.
12
roguevirus Mar 22, 2026 +11
> so his cardiac health might be positive enough from being active He has constantly had heart issues due to a genetic defect, sadly. Three major surgeries, with plenty of other minor procedures. As others have said, if anybody understands these risks and has access to the tools to mitigate them, its Arnold.
11
tehawesomedragon Mar 22, 2026 +6
Here's hoping he will still have time to do the Predator sequel.
6
Emotional-Team3520 Mar 21, 2026 +77
Yeah I’m not sure a bunch of Reddit posters are qualified to give advice to literally the world’s most famous fitness man.
77
EarthTreasure Mar 21, 2026 +77
Every time the topic of age comes up you get a bunch of people insisting that aches and pains from just rolling out of bed at 35 is normal and practically unavoidable. These are probably the same people giving fitness advice.
77
OhNoTokyo Mar 21, 2026 +28
The funny thing is that Arnold was 35 when he played Conan, so he was already clowning those 35 year olds. I'm pretty sure that 78 year old Arnold isn't going to be your average 78 year old Florida retiree either. I don't think that any old 78 year old could or even should try to do something like this, but I'm going to root for Arnold to be successful here. He's put in the time and has the experience to make this workable. And if he can do it, I'm here for it.
28
EarthTreasure Mar 22, 2026 +3
> I don't think that any old 78 year old could or even should try to do something like this He probably has the best equipment, personal trainers and medical staff that money can buy at his beck and call. His fitness history aside, I think most anyone in that situation is going to be alright.
3
Emotional-Team3520 Mar 21, 2026 +35
“It’s just my genetics!” Like genetics makes you drink 2L of Dr Pepper and an XL cheese pizza 4 nights a week.
35
CheeseDonutCat Mar 21, 2026 +29
That's not true. Sometimes it's 5 nights a week.
29
The_quest_for_wisdom Mar 22, 2026 +9
I don't understand how people manage to do that. I can't drink a cheese pizza of any size.
9
Emotional-Team3520 Mar 22, 2026 +6
With a big enough blender, anything is drinkable
6
Electronic_Film_2837 Mar 21, 2026 +15
Some of the guys do actually take it too far. Ronnie Coleman is currently in a wheelchair because he continuously hurt his back and continued lifting very heavy against his doctors advice to wait and recover after surgeries.
15
AshIsGroovy Mar 21, 2026 +18
Coleman's issue was that he didn't listen to his spinal surgeon and started training just weeks after a major surgery, which often took months to recover from.
18
parttimedoom Mar 21, 2026 +12
Well, if a grown man makes the informed decision of harming himself, he should be free to do so.
12
jg379 Mar 22, 2026 +7
For what it's worth, Coleman has stated that his only regret was not training harder. The guy clearly loves weightlifting and bodybuilding, he's all in on it, and if he's willing to pursue those goals even if it breaks him that's his right. In a way, I find it even admirable.

4

He’s also been talking about this movie for a long time and a core concept is basically Conan having to fight and move through the world differently because of his age.
4
stuartullman Mar 21, 2026 +10

I still remember how impressed the world was with the kind of shape he was able to get into well into his 50's for his return to Terminator 3 back in the way. Really blew all of our minds. He barely looked like he had aged since T2 by then.
142
Givingtree310 Mar 21, 2026 +67
He was 56 in T3. 50s is still middle aged. I agree he looked incredible and literally spent from his teens to his 50s looking like a statue sculpted by Michelangelo. But now he’s nearly 80.
67
Expensive_Finger_973 Mar 21, 2026 +24
Oh I'm not saying he is going to be able to get anywhere near that level these days. Just commenting on the fact that he seems to have some really good genes for this kind of thing and I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out the other side looking like a really jacked 80 year old.
24
Swimming_Agent_1063 Mar 21, 2026 +17
Good genes, but Arnold is also open about the fact that he used to use steroids. I wouldn’t be surprised if he used to and still does, especially at his age when his testosterone levels have already severely diminished.  Edit: millions of men his age are prescribed TRT… which is just another word for doctor prescribed steroids.
17
Andy1723 Mar 21, 2026 +16
After the amount of gear he took I’d be very surprised if his body produces testosterone naturally
16
Impeesa_ Mar 22, 2026 +11
> Edit: millions of men his age are prescribed TRT… which is just another word for doctor prescribed steroids. There's still a difference between that sort of regular TRT, and pushing it up well past natural levels or doing all the other stuff in addition. No doubt he's doing the former, the latter seems less likely at this point.

80 year old King Conan action film…. Just why
105
CharlieParkour Mar 21, 2026 +168
The original Conan starts with him as an old man sitting on the throne, crown heavy upon his head, looking back at his life. In the books, he goes from barbarian to adventurer to pirate to mercenary general to king. The better question is why and how much action they expect him to do.
168
nanakapow Mar 21, 2026 +14
I once won a marketing argument with a client using Conan as the example of why their tone of voice should change after they went from scrappy new drug punching horses to sitting on a throne as market-leading standard of care 5 years later. Prompted a couple of weird looks from colleagues but the client got it.
14
roastbeeftacohat Mar 21, 2026 +8
drugs should probably not punch horses?
8
jeobleo Mar 21, 2026 +3
I think MOST nouns should not punch horses.
3
tanstaafl90 Mar 21, 2026 +36
In the first Conan story he was an old king. Done right, it can reflect on the life of a man who did it all, has no more victories to be done, and reflects. Or one last adventure.
36
badger2000 Mar 21, 2026 +16
I mean, didn't the tell us at the beginning or end of one the movies that "that is a story for another time."? That time is now it would appear.

62
Anleme Mar 21, 2026 +23
I agree. I look at where Arnold's life started, and where he is now, and think he must be a workaholic.
23
WollyGog Mar 21, 2026 +15
He absolutely is, he pushes his limits for himself, no-one else.
15
AshIsGroovy Mar 21, 2026 +99
Arnold has never stopped training. Even now at his age he still trains daily. If you have his workout app. Which is great he gives you his exact training program to follow daily. Because of his age it's mostly machines now. So the headline is mostly marketing. His big issue is at his age and with multiple heart valve replacements he can't go extremely heavy so he focuses on lighter weights with higher reps and shorter rest periods. He also likes to release his meal prepared he's doing so I'm sure his two guys that are his assistants will upload his diets at some point. I've been using his app for two years and it works and has a great community that's uplifting and helpful. They like to call it the most positive place on the Internet and it is. Arnold knows what he is doing and has probably some of the best medical advice at his disposal.
99
mutantbabysnort Mar 21, 2026 +17
Fellow Arnold’s pump club email subscriber here! It’s truly great.

6
Violaundone Mar 22, 2026 +3
His workout app is one of the best ones out there without a lot of gimmicks; it's a straightforward plan and simple. The Zoom sessions with his crew/trainers are very informative and worth it alone for the price.
3
nohopeforhomosapiens Mar 21, 2026 +135
Maybe but I think he can do it. He won't look like he used to, of course. But my da (now 86) was still very fit in his late 70s and I saw him pick up a f****** log and throw it on his sawmill, a tree he had chopped down himself. It isn't that much of a stretch to think that a man who has taken care of himself and been fit his whole life could work out a bit to bring it back to movie star level of visibility, even if it won't be very useful in a physical sense. Edit: To those concerned about his heart, he was born with that heart defect. He eventually needed his valve repaired. It wasn't the first time, he had surgery in 1997 as well. This is not going to affect his ability to work out.
135
jambox888 Mar 21, 2026 +47
Yeah there's a guy in his late 60s at the gym I go to, he gives people form checks and spots just for the love of the game. We call him The General because he's got a flat top and a moustache. Massive unit of a guy.
47
TheSweetestKill Mar 21, 2026 +6
That guy sounds f****** awesome. I wish he was at my gym.
6
zoobrix Mar 21, 2026 +22
He's talked about how his training hasn't been anything like it was for long time now because it isn't wise as you get older. So while no doubt he'll work hard to get a decent physique for this I think he'll be sensible about it. And I'm sure Arnold's version of sensible training is still going to end up with him looking ripped enough to play an older Conan given he still looks pretty muscular as it is.
22
Dandan0005 Mar 21, 2026 +238
He’s had heart issues in the past already… Hopefully he’s not taking any….”*supplements*”…but otherwise putting much muscle on at 78 is virtually impossible.
238
an916 Mar 21, 2026 +224
Of course he’s taking ‘supplements’ and is being monitored by a team of ‘medical professionals’.
224
torndownunit Mar 21, 2026 +78
Someone as rich as him can get the best of the best drugs from medical professionals along with a monitored treatment plan. Not saying it's a good thing to do at 78 though. But he's not a gym rat buying questionable substances online.
78
SpaceNigiri Mar 21, 2026 +54
He always did, so...nothing new
54
Dandan0005 Mar 21, 2026 +10
And no real medical professionals would ever in a million years recommend anabolic steroids or HGH to a 78 year old man with a history of heart disease.
10
Lelouch37 Mar 21, 2026 +16
They might need to goose him a bit

It’s an old circus term

Great_Scott7 Mar 21, 2026 +21
He had open heart surgery before doing end of days. It was such a strain on him at that age, the insurance company hired someone to watch him on set the entire filming. It’s wild he’s even considering doing it. I figured he’d do cameos like Killing Gunther where Arnold takes up 85% of the poster and most of his (few) lines are through the telephone.

jambox888 Mar 21, 2026 +6
TBF he does appear to be some sort of athletic freak, which I mean in a good way, like Usain Bolt but for bodybuilding. yes he took lots of steroids but his overall vitality and resilience are huge which helped him get as good as he did.

Great_Scott7 Mar 21, 2026 +7
I’m definitely with you on that. But, realistically, someone that has been through this: “Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone at least three major heart surgeries (1997, 2018, 2020) to replace heart valves due to a congenital bicuspid aortic valve condition, followed by a pacemaker installation in March 2024. These included open-heart procedures to replace his pulmonic and aortic valves, with a 2018 surgery being an emergency” at 78 might not need to undergo brutal gym prep.

jambox888 Mar 21, 2026 +12
I mean "brutal" is the headline in a notoriously trashy tabloid rag. Very likely he invited Ronnie along for a photo op to promote the movie and isn't actually training particularly hard. I mean if he's benching above bodyweight I'd be shocked, looks like he's on the fixed weights.

tiots Mar 21, 2026 +7
Imagine giving fitness advice to the most legendarily fit person in human history. Lmao reddit is the worst
7
IAmKyuss Mar 21, 2026 +8
He’s had two triple by pass surgeries. I would bet if he wasn’t crazy wealthy, he’d have been dead by now. He said in his documentary that his doctor told him if he lifts heavy weights again, he’ll die. Lol really not sure how to feel about this
8
AshIsGroovy Mar 21, 2026 +4
He doesn't do heavyweight anymore. It's high reps, a ton of sets, and short rest times. Often less than 30 seconds, sometimes as little as 10 seconds. Also, remember that what he considers heavyweight isn't what most people consider heavy, but rather stupidly heavy.
4
eipotttatsch Mar 21, 2026 +12
This is almost certainly mostly a publicity thing. Arnold has never stopped working out, and he knows that he can’t do too hard anymore because of his heart - he’s said as much in the past. He’s probably just not skipping sessions and has cleaned his diet up a bit. He won’t be rocking 20 inch arms when he gets on screen.
12
stormdraggy Mar 21, 2026 +6
This is the same man that at 55 spent months working out to become a brick shithouse, and all for a minute of screentime as naked t-800 at the start of t3. And he was even bigger than his t2 self. If Vince Mcmahon can pull it off Arnie's got this effortlessly.

It's really funny honestly. Arnold has been working out all his life. It's not even really "training for the role" when you've never stopped training. The concerns for his health are laughable. Working out _is_ healthy. i understand the steroid concerns, but do they really believe that he's going to run a heavy steroid cycle at 78? Come on. Arnold isn't stupid.

Negative_Hedgehog482 Mar 21, 2026 +12
Exactly!  It's actually a bit worrying how many people think that exercising is unhealthy ...
12
I_like_Mashroms Mar 21, 2026 +3
One of the bigger concerns with age and steroids is the stress it puts on your heart. A lot of the guys from his era are still kicking. They didn't walk around at 300-340lbs for a decade plus. That shit will wear your ticker out.

ELMUNECODETACOMA Mar 21, 2026 +18
There was a time when in order to be the world record holder for the 100m in the 100+ class you didn't have to do much more than be over 100 and make it 100 meters. That day passed a couple decades ago.

LyleTheAdonis Mar 21, 2026 +25
Exactly lol Reddit has the most self proclaimed experts on seemingly every topic you could possibly think of.
25
Richard7666 Mar 21, 2026 +12
Telling Arnie of all people about exercise lol.
12
ReadComprehensionBot Mar 21, 2026 +11
Reddit has the most dysgenic median user out of any social media platform and its not even close. People on here "can't do anything" or however the twitter screenshot goes.
11
TheGiftOf_Jericho Mar 22, 2026 +3
It's funnier that it's in a way that's trying to inform Arnold about it, as if he isn't aware of it himself. His entire life has been about fitness lmao.

>Arnold Schwarzenegger, 78, Scared me after Chuck just passed the other day...

MaxxDash Mar 21, 2026 +45
“Why’d they have to phrase it like that?!”

SmellGestapo Mar 21, 2026 +37
The doctors did everything they could and...she is going to be fine.

Me too

harlotstoast Mar 21, 2026 +661
He’s gonna hurt himself. Take it easy Arnie. In fact he threw his back out making the first one.
661
riegspsych325 Mar 21, 2026 +159
his back shouldn’t be bearing nearly as much load as his heart
159
sbwcwero Mar 21, 2026 +69
No choice. He’s been carrying the whole Conan franchise on his back for years.
69
SurfNTurf1983 Mar 21, 2026 +21
His back has taken some pretty big loads.
21
drunkenfool Mar 21, 2026 +24
So did his housekeeper back in the day.
24
WorldsWeakestMan Mar 21, 2026 +11
He has worked out basically every single day since 1961, I think he’ll be fine.
11
cmerchantii Mar 22, 2026 +3
Dudes out here pounding Cheetos behind the keyboard like “oof he better be careful” 😂
3
psych0ranger Mar 21, 2026 +6
I kinda trust him of all people to know how to not overdo it lol
6
DrKurgan Mar 21, 2026 +10
They probably won't build a real Wheel of Pain this time or have barely trained wolfdogs chase him.
10
WorldsWeakestMan Mar 21, 2026 +3
There are several large ones we use for strongman that he could request readily, small ones too as he is getting up in years 😂 But seriously, Conan’s Wheel is a very unfun thing to actually do, 1/10 would not recommend.
3
henrysmyagent Mar 21, 2026 +67
I think he is already in peak physical condition for a 78 year old man. When is Hollywood gonna ease up on these unrealistic body/beauty standards? /s
67
gdirrty216 Mar 21, 2026 +26
Exactly. He’s playing an aged but still Legendary King, and a minimal amount of prep on what he looked like in FUBAR is perfectly fine for that role.
26
Pyro765 Mar 21, 2026 +16
Nice

Objective_Star_191 Mar 21, 2026 +17
I’ll always and forever be a fan!
17
BigBlackHungGuy Mar 21, 2026 +253
Didn't he have a bypass already? At 78 I would tread with caution. Hey u/govschwarzenegger , take it easy brother. We need you to stick around. 2026 is still out here hunting for victims. That's some good advices.
253
JeanClaudeSegal Mar 21, 2026 +51
He has had only valve procedures from what I can see. He had a Ross procedure in '97 and then the follow up aortic replacement in '20. Apparently he required a separate pulmonic replacement too. So 3 times in the chest. That's uncommon but can restore full function if successful which it would seem is the case
51
EffectiveDandy Mar 21, 2026 +14
amongst a myriad of other things. you dont walk away with that much muscle. most of the bodybuilders from that era did not age well. he looks amazing compared to say ron coleman
14
RiffyWammel Mar 21, 2026 +59
Conan the Sepetagenarian
59
Givingtree310 Mar 21, 2026 +10
He’ll definitely be 80 by the time this is released
10
BeMyBrutus Mar 21, 2026 +8
I assume he'll be playing Conan at the end of his reign?
8
Hungry_Horace Mar 21, 2026 +8
King Conan. If so he’ll be the older narrator and someone else will play Conan when younger.
8
Shooter_McGavin_666 Mar 21, 2026 +22
Umm ackshully, it’s a Conan the Destroyer sequel.
22
TallanoGoldDigger Mar 21, 2026 +7
As long as he's [getting the feeling of cumming in the gym like someone blowing eyah into his muscles](https://youtu.be/-xZQ0YZ7ls4) then more power to him But seriously I don't know if u/govschwarzenegger ever addressed it but I really want to know what he was thinking when he let go of that epic quote it's both funny and inspirational at the same time. For real that movie is what got me taking training real seriously
7
The_Book Mar 21, 2026 +44
lol at the people giving Arnold friggin Schwarzenegger health advice.
44
Louissucks Mar 21, 2026 +10
LET THE MAN GET JACKED. HE HAS LOVE FOR THE GAME.
10
BumblebeeParty6389 Mar 22, 2026 +5
I don't want to see 78 years old Conan
5
TrueLegateDamar Mar 21, 2026 +36
He should made the sequel 20 years ago, now it just seems like a massive health hazard.
36
Jaggs0 Mar 21, 2026 +27
he was the governor of California 20 years ago.
27
Blue_Robin_04 Mar 21, 2026 +9
20 years ago, Christopher McQuarrie wouldn't have been able to get it made. A few excellent Mission: Impossibles later, he can. As long as Arnie knows his limits, it will be fine.
9
Upbeat-Local-836 Mar 21, 2026 +9
I’d feel a lot better if they said “Arnold training Tai Chi daily for his upcoming film”
9
Jerry-Beans Mar 22, 2026 +4
Idk about this. Sure hes in shape, but hes an old man now. Mike Tyson is in shape but he moves like a Grandpa now and it was kind of sad to see. Like Deniro’s fight scene in the Irishmen where he looked like he had rickets.
4
MRintheKEYS Mar 21, 2026 +23
Honestly, if you wanted to do this animated and just have Arnold voice it, that’d be great. Arnold’s already paid his dues. He doesn’t need to burn years for this.
23
Fanjolin Mar 21, 2026 +7
I haven’t been in a movie theater in 8 years. I’d go to watch Conan and Arnie return!
7
themaxx8717 Mar 21, 2026 +4
We finally getting Conan the conquerer.

MrBenSampson Mar 21, 2026 +9
