Artemis II Launch chat

Posted by beyeg

Who plans to watch the launch today? Does space travel still excite you (assuming that it ever did)? I love launches and am very excited to watch the show today!

I’ll definitely be watching, launches never get old. It’s one of the few things that still feels like “we’re actually living in the future.” What gets me is the scale of it… like that rocket is carrying humans past the point where Earth just becomes a tiny dot. It’s exciting, but also kind of surreal when you really think about it. Artemis especially feels different too, like we’re not just visiting anymore, we’re trying to actually go back and stay.

The kids and I will be watching. We just went to the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center last weekend to see the Atlas V in person, then came home and built the Lego version together 👍 🚀

Yup! Astronomer here (meteor physics), and always a joy to see humanity reaching for the stars. And hopefully we'll have humans set foot on the Moon in 2028 if all goes to plan.

in the hospital with an infection but I’m watching from my hospital bed, it’s a perfect day for a launch

Yes, I live in Florida, about 50 miles away from it, but we can see all the launches very well from our yard. This one will be extra cool. I pray for their safety and that all goes well in general.

How wonderful - my wife is from central Florida and always shares launch stories from her days in school.

Shameless SpaceX fanboy and have been dunking on SLS for a decade but I’m watching from a tent in Ireland with the full moon in the sky and am very excited.

Watching from Ireland after randomly turning the news on. This will be the first launch I have seen live, which is cool.

What a waste of money and resources, what does anyone on earth benefit from this?

Gradual understanding of what can go wrong, improvements in communications and fuel economy, something to look forward to when everything else sucks?
