Hell, they'll probably start blaming Congress if the Dems take it over after November.

They won’t. We’re at the “lost cost fallacies”. They *cannot* admit regret or reflection upon their candidate after supporting him for so long and pushing that line of “what is acceptable” from a political official let alone a president.
In short, they cannot be wrong. For example, some of them may not themselves actually be racist or bigots, but to admit that the guy they’ve backed this entire time is? It would bring that label closer to them as a direct correlation of their choice at the ballot box.
No. inconceivable.
This is why identity politics is a zero sum game. Have a party, sure. But don’t wrap your entire life and ideals around it. You’re still an individualistic, autonomous person.
Ultimately, the fault will always be passed onto the democrats. Especially when, in four years time, during the middle of (I assume) a Democrat’s first presidential term - the consequences of the Trump administrations actions, inactions and policies will be felt fully. I can already see the “this is the Dems fault” beacons being lit. Akin to Trump “saving” tik tok when he himself was the one who installed the legislative timeline to ban it.

Don't we produce primarily natural gas in the US, though, not gasoline?
16
chainer3000Mar 30, 2026
+21
A ton of natural gas like methane but we also export a ton of refined crude oil. We’re the number one producer for both. We export light and import heavy, this has to do with our older refineries being set up for that more than anything. Gas prices will rise because it’s a global market and it’s more expensive for us to use our light oil to make gasoline, but not because we’re in danger of running out.
Not an industry expert just something I’ve looked into, also stoned

How do you think the market works? If American companies can sell it for twice the price in other countries, they will do that, which means that the domestic price must also rise, so yes, if the rest of the world experiences a shortage, then so will America.

The USA needs to import gas for its cars as there is not enough refining in the states, particularly the north east, so lots of gas is imported, even while you export more unrefined stuff leading to USA being a net exporter of all oil products

We were about 90% certain we were going to go visit family in Asia this summer, but ticket costs have gone up to the points we're only about 70% certain. Doesn't help we also have to pay for a pretty costly home repair as well, but about 3-4 months ago prices were workable, possibly even for premium economy for all overseas flights, but now if we go it'd have to be economy all the way, and that's starting to fade as well.
Told my wife if we can't make it happen this year we should make a concerted effort to go next year, but at the same time who knows how things will be and maybe we just bite the bullet and try to make it happen while we know what's what?

We don't refine our own oil. Our domestic refineries are set up to refine heavy crude. We produce mostly light, "sweet" crude. So, bizarrely enough, we sell our oil internationally and buy heavy crude from elsewhere to refine into fuels and other petrochemicals. It's kinda insane.

Yes, because oil trades on the global market, so a supply issue somewhere else in the world raising prices here at home too! Hope this helps!

> but the global market and corporate margins are whats actually driving the price at the pump
Wonder why that is and who is the one single person responsible for this mess.

I only know of staycations these days. My paid time off work is spent saving money and staying at home. Just doing chores and watching shows and playing games I already own. It’s survival at this point, vacations are a thing I don’t know I can afford again…

Gas prices put a damper on our intended road trip to NY this summer, with stops in DC and Philly. We considered flying, but with the current airport situation…no thanks.
We are saving the money instead, lord know what’s going to happen in the next six months.

Wait isn't that dirt c****?
In europe (germany) I paid pre war about 1.50 - 1.60 € per Liter and now 2.10 € - 2.30 € per Liter.
That would be about 8$ per Gallon for you if you were living in Germany.
And even I still go on vacation lol.
In all honesty... it's a lot of money that the gas is going up, even worse for me. But in the end I am still "only paying" dunno 15 - 20 € more per full car. That price didn't sky rocket high enough to make me cancel my vacation... I'll just eat a pizza less?!
So just to showcase what I mean:
The cheapest price was 1.50 €/ L, my car has 40 Liter Tank. To fill that up previously it was 60 €.
Now the highest price is 2.30 €/ L, my car still has 40 Liter Tank. To Fill that up NOW it is 92 €.
Thats "only", yeah "only" 32 € more. It sucks, but it's 32 €. It's not enough to make me cancel my vacation plans lol.
And in both cases (1.50 € and 2.30 €) I am talking about the CHEAPEST PRICE PREVIOUSLY and the HIGHEST PRICE NOW, which is rarely the case. I try to get gas around 2,00 - 2.05 € and before it was more like 1.70 €.
Ya'll american have bigger tanks, SUVs and Trucks. Okay, thats a bit more expensive.
But come on... 4$ a Gallon. Thats maybe 72 € for a 80 Liter Tank? Thats even less than filling up my 40 Liter Car lol and you got 30 Liter more to fill.
So americans can basically fill a car twice as often and thats considered "expensive" while I am paying almost 90 € to fill my small toyota yaris lol.
I'd take american prices for our prices. Honestly, I'd even be happy with 6$ a Gallon cause thats how much our gas cost before the war.

The issue becomes how spaced out we are with how populous we are, and most places here have little, if any, public transportation. When I lived in Texas, my commute was nearly an hour one way by car, and while there was a train that fit something like 200 people, it had 5 lines with dozens of stops and took over 2 hours. If you rode the train you'd still need to drive another 20 minutes to get to work since the county covers something like 2500 Sq Km. My county had over 2 million people in it. Plus at least in the part I lived in, there were no busses so if you want groceries, etc. You have to drive, if you need to mail a package, you need to drive. If you have kids, you have to find a way to get off work, and pick the up, so most people drive. You want a cup of coffee, you make it yourself after you drive to get it with the other groceries or you walk 20km to get one, or you drive. If you go to church, you drive there with the exception of the smaller towns that have the one church. Not to mention they only operate at specific times. Used to be something like 5:30am to midnight, so if you don't get off work in time for that last train you get to sleep at work if you're lucky,

I have to cut back on just traveling for leisure/friends stuff locally now. I live out in the eastern parts of my city so it's always a good drive to get anywhere. With Diesel used to be at low $4s it was manageable to travel and hang out more often. Now I have to be limited because of Diesel at around $6+ a gallon now.

1. Approaching? We are there and passed $4 awhile ago.
2. A large amount of working class Americans can’t and never have been able to afford a vacation anyways. Too many people are burnt out wage slaves just trying to get by.
