As Trump Threatens NATO Exit, Starmer to Host 35-Nation Talks on Strait of Hormuz—Without US | Common Dreams
"The unspoken implication of the focus on diplomacy is that if Trump walks away without reopening the strait and without a deal with Iran, then Tehran holds the cards," said one observer.

Trump has succeeded in destroying our influence in the comity of nations

It's like when Anakin murdered all the Jedi and turned on his friends but at least he had Monsterface McLightninghands to hang out with.

Coincidentally he was also lightninghands' puppet.

And the board (should it be bored?) of peace
1
Hades_Mercedes Apr 1, 2026 +1
I'd say Americans' inability to control their b**** is what got them there.
1
greasy__halo Apr 1, 2026 +1
That feels a bit dramatic, but yeah the shift in alliances lately is hard to ignore
1
Sionn3039 Apr 1, 2026 +1
It's not dramatic. The US was already unpopular internationally due to tariffs. Now it going to cause significant damage to the countries across the globe due to fuel rationing. The US will be despised.
1
Theferael_me Apr 1, 2026 +1
> The US will be despised. It already is.
1
Sionn3039 Apr 1, 2026 +1
It for sure is here in Canada, I've never seen it so bad. Even my right-leaning parents refuse to travel to the US.
1
Fluffy_Marionberry54 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Same in the UK. We love Canada btw.

Titrifle Apr 1, 2026 +1
The rest of the world can solve this problem just by buying their oil in yuan. The US isn't even in the room. I'm not calling time on the petrodollar just yet, but just a couple of years ago this would be inconceivable.
1
Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 1, 2026 +1
The problem is if there's no petrol because of the closed strait, not how you buy it.
1
hymie0 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Iran decides who the strait is open for.
1
MudBloodLite Apr 1, 2026 +1
Outside of military might, Trump destroyed all of America's soft power, virtually everywhere in the world. First through DOGE by cancelling all humanitarian aid to the poorest of nations. And then Trump directly with any & all alliances USA had.
1
sylbug Apr 1, 2026 +1
He's doing his best to destroy America's hard power, too. How many billions in military hardware has been destroyed in the past month? How many countries are thinking about removing their bases? How many won't let them use air space or access intelligence? How many defence assurances have shown to be meaningless? And making their military look like incompetent hacks who can't take on a single, sanctioned middle power probably doesn't help. They have All their Middle East allies including the genocidal monsters in Israel and they can't even keep up air defence, let alone open the strait.
1
Ven18 Apr 1, 2026 +1
The bases are going to be the real death blow. Our entire logistical apparatus functions cause we effectively have military colonies around the globe. Once countries kick us out we will have little to no global influence outside our immediate region. Meanwhile China has been facilitating soft power control over the global south for decades and will fill the international monetary vacuum when the dollar is finally ditched as the reserve currency within the next few years. my bet is 2032-2035 long enough for the rest of the world to be prepared to do it and just in time for US politics to inevitably elect another fascist after the next Dem president does next to nothing in office because his donors and the Israel lobby say so.

Don’t forget what he did during his first term when he called home all of the US diplomats and replaced them with Trump yes-men with zero diplomatic experience. I’m sure Biden tried to replace them, but there’s no way to re-establish those networks the same way once people have been out of the loop for years. Trump’s never understood soft power, why it’s important or how it’s supposed to be used.

We have become the Dallas Cowboys. They truly are America's team

At least you're not the Denver Broncos.
1
Next-Chemist-2 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Ouch. Being the Broncos is a choice, not a lifestyle.
1
stereosalvation Apr 1, 2026 +1
I think being the Denver Broncos is pretty good.

Ahh, so using the Iran War as a pretext to exiting NATO.  These treasonous chumps think we can't see through all their stupid plans.
1
Rare_Paper4473 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Always was. Somehow people are still choosing to pretend they don't get this.

thats why people have to stop saying its because of epstein files. they dont give a shit about the files as there will be no consequences because of whats in the files

Seeing hundreds of actual, innocent people being killed by the American apparatus getting brushed away as a 'distraction' has been legitimately infuriating. Like you said: it's just fascism and imperialism. They want to exert power this way.
1
MarcusSurvives Apr 1, 2026 +1
Using the Iran War as a pretext to anything implies that the people steering this country are planning their moves ahead of time

Watch in 3 weeks; all ships except for American ships may pass. Ships from America or going to America will be shot at
1
Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 1, 2026 +1
This would be glorious.
1
OniWarthog Apr 1, 2026 +1
Man I live in the US and imma keep it 100. I think so too
1
Ok-Chapter-2071 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah, I feel bad for you the good ones, but your country really needs a tough wake up call.
1
Hades_Mercedes Apr 1, 2026 +1
'The good ones' wouldn't have ridiculous, embarrassingly weak excuses for why 300 million people can't do anything about a pedo in their highest office bombing little girls to steal their oil.
1
Ancient-Bat1755 Apr 1, 2026 +1
US ships already don’t use it though.

Honestly, good. The US has completely mismanaged foreign policy the entire 21st century. You could argue further than that, but our net influence on the world has been pretty inarguably negative & outright evil for as long as I can remember. The sooner everyone re-aligns without us, the better for everyone. We've got so many internal problems our country is falling apart. Let's just take a step back and work on those.
1
Titrifle Apr 1, 2026 +1
trump can sulk and spit his pacifier out and throw his toys out of the stroller, but the US ain't quitting NATO. Losing all that infrastructure, forward bases, logistical nodes, intelligence - it would just make American interventions vastly more expensive and bloody; unless they quit the petrodollar altogether of course, and the MIC were content going broke.
1
Sminahin Apr 1, 2026 +1
I more meant the hosting talks without us. The sooner everyone stops acting like the world revolves around us, the better.
1
No_Future_7878 Apr 1, 2026 +1
This is probably the actual end of American global supremacy. Buckle up folks, we're in the wild west era of global affairs now
1
Ven18 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Not really China will just fill the vacuum the same way the US fill the post WW empire vacuum from the British along with the USSR. The global hegemony is just bouncing between east and west. The real problem will be once they do fill the vacuum and the dollar is not the global currency anymore our country is liable to collapse
1
Wgh555 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That won’t happen, US primacy was a historic aberration. We’re moving back to a multipolar world that the British empire before it existed in. Britain in its prime in the 19th century was first amongst equals rather than a hegemon like America was and that’s exactly where we’re heading back to, where regional blocs counterbalance each other.
1
No_Future_7878 Apr 1, 2026 +1
China does not have near the level of military or economic power to fill the vacuum
1
sneekyleshy Apr 1, 2026 +1
yet
1
No_Future_7878 Apr 1, 2026 +1
it's gonna be decades before it gets to that point. In that time, the US could fix itself, the EU could get its shit together, aliens could invade and anally probe everyone, etc
1
Hades_Mercedes Apr 1, 2026 +1
Well be fine. If The US could just hurry up and f*** off, already.
1
Cerraigh82 Apr 1, 2026 +1
The US has proven they make things exponentially worse by being involved.
1
ZonghZonghZongh Apr 1, 2026 +1
>Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Wednesday that Britain will host talks involving 35 nations—but not the US—on reopening the Strait of Hormuz via diplomacy. Did the "winning" that we were promised with Trump's victory involve prominent nations having summits to determine global affairs and not sending the United States an invite? Is that the winning MAGA was voting for? Is America great when it loses its superpower status? Is acting like an unpredictable, rogue nation that no one wants to be associated with, winning?
1
Routine_Bit_8184 Apr 1, 2026 +1
yes, that was abundantly clear before his first term...he said as much. it is just that idiots thought that was a good idea and would make us stronger...because they aren't smart enough to tie their shoes without risk of accidentally asphyxiating themselves.
1
Significant-Self5907 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yes! This is what the world needs to do. Do not reward bad behavior FFS!
1
Theferael_me Apr 1, 2026 +1
The 35 nations then need to approach Iran and agree to replace the petrodollar with the petroyuan if it allows transit of non-US ships through the Strait.
1
DKDamian Apr 1, 2026 +1
Well, or the euro, which is more likely
1

1
Semajal Apr 1, 2026 +1
America leaves NATO, America must leave every EU base. We should (speaking as a Brit) be very clear to him about this.
1
SoftHazee Apr 1, 2026 +1
Trump’s threat to exit NATO adds tension to the geopolitical landscape these talks might be a response to that.
1
Additional_Quiet2600 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Might be? We are leaving NATO, all part of the plan. They know it so they are shunning us. Have you heard what we have been saying out loud about this? We are gone from the new trade agreements. Bye bye.
1
orangesfwr Apr 1, 2026 +1
As they should
1
CozyHazee Apr 1, 2026 +1
It signals a move toward multilateral diplomacy, possibly reducing reliance on the US in critical international issues.
1
Away-Ad1781 Apr 1, 2026 +1
All, or a vast majority of these nations, have gladly supported the United States meddling with sovereign nations around the globe in the name of free trade and capitalism. If the US just wants to spray shit everywhere, then pack up their toys and leave I don’t think Iran needs to play friendly with the rest of them. Thousands dead, and hundreds of billions of infrastructure destroyed. Without actually landing ground troops and conquering the nation, well someone’s gonna have to pay for that. Seems like a permanent levy on all ships sailing through the Gulf is more than understandable.
1
9_to_5_till_i_die Apr 1, 2026 +1
Winning.
1
Additional_Quiet2600 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Obvious outcome. Trump let Russia give Cuba oil but threatened the world about it. He said sanctions and heavy tariffs, but suddenly he is fine with Russia doing it. He's shown Russia (or been commanded) that he is afraid of them and will do nothing directly to them. He even lifted sanctions.
1
GlitteringRate6296 Apr 1, 2026 +1
