>The TV series will tell an original story nor covered in the games which will be set in Rome 64 AD. The year, associated with the Great Fire of Rome, falls during the reign of Emperor Nero. Saved you a click.

St. Peter and Paul are said to have died in 64 AD in Rome. I could see them incorporating that

So does that Make Judas an Assassin or Part of the Hidden Ones from AC: Origins? I haven’t brushed up on my AC lore.
18
pasher5620 Mar 20, 2026 +12
Siwa and Bayek established the Hidden Ones just over 100 years before this so it’s likely that they are still referred to as that. I don’t think they become the Assassin Brotherhood until they become established in the Middle East since that’s where the word assassin comes from.
12
TheEagleWithNoName Mar 20, 2026 +3
Soooo everything after Julius Caesar gets Assassinated by Siwa and the Senators to Basim in the Islamic Golden Age are part of the Hidden ones. Is the next game gonna tell us when they become Assassin Brotherhood during The Third Crusade? Cause I will be honest the last AC game I played was Odyssey and I stopped after the Olympics Chapter.
3
pasher5620 Mar 20, 2026 +4
I just went and looked up more specifics because it’s been so long since I played the first game, where this info is most relevant. While we’ve never actually seen the founding, the Brotherhood was founded around 1090 in Masyaf, Syria (notably the home of Altair in AC1).Apparently there are in-game notes that described the order as the Hidden Ones as late as 862 AD, where it is discussing establishing the Masyaf headquarters. So they will definitely be known as the Hidden Ones in this new show given the timeframe. Do kinda wish they’d go a little more modern again. Be cool to have a game set in the 1800s again or even WW1 with how prevalent melee combat still was in that era. Edit: called it a game by accident. Definitely a tv show.
4
TheEagleWithNoName Mar 20, 2026 +3
There was gonna be a game set in the Civil War but it was canned as it was “Too Political”.
3
pasher5620 Mar 20, 2026 +8
Which is utter bullshit. Assassins Creed never shied away from getting political prior to Origins. Ubisoft is just scared of all these right wing losers online to actually say anything of value in their games anymore.
8
FX114 Mar 20, 2026
To be clear, this is a TV show, not a game.
0
pasher5620 Mar 20, 2026 +1
It has been fixed.
1
Brandhor Mar 20, 2026 +2
I'm not 100% sure since it's been a while but in mirage and valhalla they are still hidden ones, they are assassins in ac shadows but that's many centuries later
2
BlazeReborn Mar 20, 2026 +6
IIRC Jesus was just some dude who found an Apple of Eden. Not sure if he was a Templar
6
pasher5620 Mar 20, 2026 +8
Given that he empowers the people and doesn’t seek to amass any for himself, I’m pretty sure that makes him at least Assassins adjacent, even if he never actually killed anyone. The Templars would’ve later usurped his ideals and taken over the church and turned it into a method of control they prefer, best seen with the Borgia’s.
8
TheEagleWithNoName Mar 20, 2026 +2
It’s over, Rodrigo. No more Tricks, no more Ancient Artifacts, no more weapons. Let us see what you are made of Old Man.

That sounds a little too religious to easily create a big controversy on an aspect or another Especially since the whole Christian religion is fake in the AC universe (the whole Adam and Eve and such existed but it's the Isu ancient civilization, not linked to God)

Seems shows like fallout and this are learning there’s no pleasing the game players and better off just doing something original in the universe than having the gamers nit pick everything that’s different in the show story. Could’ve saved The Last of Us people a lot of headache
39
DaveShadow Mar 20, 2026 +58
The thing is, Fallout and AC have always traditionally focused on different settings, times, characters with each game. Fans then will be 100% happy to accept another fresh take, cause the fresh takes are built into the expectations. Whereas TLOU doesn’t. It was a set story, in a game that was all about the story and those specific characters. TLOU was specifically the story of Joel and Ellie. Same happened with Halo, which is the stories of Master Chief.
58
Mrchristopherrr Mar 20, 2026 +12
Exactly. It would be really hard to do TLOU without telling the story or else it will feel like any other zombie show
12
MrBVS Mar 20, 2026 +12
Halo does have other games that aren't centered around Master Chief that have done pretty well (Reach, ODST, Halo Wars). I think if they had made the show about some other Spartans and at least TRIED to keep the lore somewhat consistent, it would have been better received (at least by Halo fans). The problem was they took an established story and changed it completely, and not for the better either. From what I've heard, season 2 was a little better but by that point it was too little too late.
12
Turbulent-Let-1180 Mar 20, 2026 +2
Lol man i'll die on the hill that the second season of that halo show was actually very good and they deserved a third season for such an incredible turn around from season 1 to season 2. It was like coming back from being down 3 - 1 in an nba playoff series
2
DaveShadow Mar 20, 2026 +1
As a Halo fan since game one, I thought it was fine. I saw the issues, but watched and enjoyed it. The second season, moving into the Halo 1 story, had some great nods to the game too. Would say that my mother, who never was a gamer, absolutely loved the Halo show. She loved season one and continually asked me when it was coming back. And was annoyed as f*** when it got cancelled. Yeah, she didn’t know what it was based on but she loved it as an alien sci-fi show.
1
Turbulent-Let-1180 Mar 20, 2026
Yeah i think that's how it usually goes lately, sometimes you'll get a Fallout that both gamers and non gamers like, but it's rare. I only ever played halo 3, just cause i had a gamecube and then a PS2, then when that died i finally got a 360. So i never really knew the halo lore like that, and that's probably why i liked the show
0
Reylo-Wanwalker Mar 20, 2026 +4
Well the Assassins Creed movie already did this in 2016 (and was still terrible).
4
Tabnet2 Mar 20, 2026 +7
Last of Us was still a success though
7
signe-h Mar 20, 2026 +6
Season 1 definitely was.
6
Zalvren Mar 21, 2026 +2
> Could’ve saved The Last of Us people a lot of headache TLOU is a very different series and if you don't adapt the game story, then you don't do it, there's no other interest than those characters and their story (it's a generic zombie world if you remove that). Fallout and AC are literally already anthology series where each installment tell their story in their corner and are thinly connected. Makes sense for the shows to do that. This is just a game by game basis what to do on this subject. Also, TLOU was very well recieved in S1 when they did that so it's not like that's the problem.
2
MrBVS Mar 20, 2026 +3
I think most Fallout players do enjoy the show though, it's more of a vocal minority that decry it. Even though there are some changes to the lore they've made that I'm not the biggest fan of, overall they've done a good job at replicating the setting and feel of the games and have also had plenty of great Easter eggs from the games. From what I've seen, most Fallout fans tend to agree with that sentiment.
3
capitalsfan Mar 20, 2026 +2
Fallout pleased all but the most nitpicky of fans.
2
tomrichards8464 Mar 20, 2026
I haven't watched it because AFAICT it's essentially based on the Bethesda games, which I never really warmed to. Interplay/Black Isle for life.

BusBoatBuey Mar 20, 2026 -3
I have zero faith in anything related to Assassin's Creed that takes place before 1000AD. F*** "The Hidden Ones" and retconning bullshit. This is just another IP churn property that no one working on actually cares about beyond being a job. It is just an excuse to have a pseudo-historical setting with modern day lingo.
-3
dedfrmthneckup Mar 20, 2026 +2
I could care less about the integrity of the assassins creed franchise. I’m more annoyed about an Ancient Rome show having to be tied to IP like assassins creed to get made at all these days.
2
TheEagleWithNoName Mar 20, 2026 +100
May the Father of Understanding Guide them into a Good show and not be boring as the movie. Making a PG-13 Movie on an M rated game with no blood, bad editing, and a forgettable protagonist.

Like he was so blank in the movie. He was “Executed” cause he killed a Pimp; that’s it. And the Animus is just this weird Robot Car Arm Machine rather than a chair. Honestly I wanna watch the 2009 Ezio Short films made by Ubisoft now.

No, he doesn't. Also you are acting like every actor has all the best opportunities infornt of them when in reality that is so very actors that do. Most of the films he has been in are good. Eden Lake, 300, Hunger, Shame, Fish Tank, Inglourious Basterds, Jane Eyre, A Dangerous Method, X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of future Past, 12 Years a Slave, Kneecap, Frank, Steve Jobs, Macbeth, Slow West, The Light Between Oceans, Next Goal Wins, The Killer, Black Bag. Also TV series like The Agency and Band of Brothers.

TheSecondEikonOfFire Mar 20, 2026 +3
I haven’t seen the movie since release, but I remember enjoying the assassin parts a decent amount. It was all of the modern day stuff that sucked
3
TheEagleWithNoName Mar 20, 2026 +1
Which takes place most of the movie.
1
pixlplayer Mar 20, 2026 +1
They recreated the game experience quite well in that regard
1
DarthTaz_99 Mar 20, 2026 +1
The Assassin parts were by far the best parts of the movie, they were done so well, shame it was like 10% of the movie and the rest 90% were boring current time stuff
1
BaggyOz Mar 20, 2026 +41
I haven't kept up with the game lore in a while, but isn't it a bit odd to set the show in a time period before the Assassins and Templars were the organisations? Surely for a mass appeal product you'd want to go with the basics of the original lore.
41
kermitor Mar 20, 2026 +70
Origins and odyssey had proto templars and assassins, so I suppose either there going to carry on with those groups or retcon it
70
itsjustben13 Mar 20, 2026 -37
In other words take inspiration from some of the worst AC games in terms of story. GG.
-37
sexandliquor Mar 20, 2026 +31
What? Lmao. Origins is probably one of the best games in the entire series. Definitely has one of the best protagonists and storylines.
31
Repulsive_Ant_2466 Mar 20, 2026 +11
Yeah i loved the f*** out of the story and world building, they did a great job incorporating Egyptian mythology and Bayek was given a lot of depth. Great performance too
11
overtired27 Mar 20, 2026 +3
I dunno, it was a pretty standard revenge story, and the link to the modern day was weak compared to the early games. Those had way more intrigue and complexity around the Templar/Assassin storyline and its link between modern and historic eras, which is what set the series apart from any number of historical stories. Agree though that Bayek was charismatic, and I liked how his relationship with Ana played out. Enjoyed the game, but no denying that they simplified the storytelling (and gameplay) to increase the appeal to new players. I hope the TV show manages to capture some of what made the early games so weighty and isn’t just a historical adventure.
3
tfhermobwoayway Mar 20, 2026 +2
It definitely feels like a post-GTA V game, in that all of the open-world is lots of flat space to ride around in instead of lots of tall buildings to climb up. The gameplay is a generic RPG. Don’t get me wrong. I liked the game. But I’m kind of sick of every single AAA game basically converging into the same thing over and over again because it appeals to the broadest audience. I want them to take risks. Old AC was a lot less popular but it was a lot more unique. It really feels like modern AAA has “solved the problem of gameplay” so they can tell a better story without much friction. Which is all backward because gameplay is the appeal of a game. I play games for interesting game mechanics and interesting implementation of those game mechanics into the world and story. I don’t just want to play an open-world RPG while a story is narrated to me.
2
tfhermobwoayway Mar 20, 2026
It’s a good game but a bad AC game. It feels more like an RPG. The stealth mechanics are poor and the parkour is lacklustre. The map is lots of flat desert, with a few small cities defined by short, far-apart buildings. It moved away from the roots of the series to appeal to a wider audience. Also, you can’t assassinate people if their level is too high. Which is really stupid.
0
eloquenentic Mar 20, 2026 +4
”Stealth mechanics are poor” in Origins? Brother did you play Unity or some of the other earlier games?
4
tfhermobwoayway Mar 20, 2026 +3
I did play Unity. I didn’t like it very much. I don’t think it should have been rehabilitated. It was clear when I played Origins that they didn’t want me doing stealth stuff. I was supposed to just fight my way in the front door using all the cool new RPG mechanics they had added. This was best embodied in the “you can’t assassinate someone who’s above your level.” In the past, their level just meant they were harder to sneak past or stronger in combat. The problems were solved by just getting better at stealth. But the game clearly wanted me to just grind and grind until I had the right equipment to assassinate them properly. It was a hard boundary, such that I felt I was being railroaded and not rewarded for my skills. Plus, (although I might have misremembered because it was a while ago) I remember I was able to kill those enemies in combat long before I was able to assassinate them. Combat was almost always the easier route. That’s not how a stealth game should be.
3
eloquenentic Mar 20, 2026 +1
I’m playing Unity now and the stealth mechanics are so atrocious I’m wondering if I should keep playing. Sneaking is almost impossible. Game forces you to use ranged weapons or bombs basically, there are not other options. You can’t even distract enemies. I used stealth in Origins all the time. Was amazingly fun. And yes you had to make an assassin build to one-shot high level enemies, but that was part of the fun.

StarGaurdianBard Mar 20, 2026 +5
Odyssey i can agree with but Origins is commonly praised as the best post Black Flag assassin's Creed
5
Brandhor Mar 20, 2026 +5
origins story is probably better but I think odyssey is a better all around game
5
Ek_Chutki_Sindoor Mar 20, 2026 +2
Odyssey perfected the formula that was created by Origins. Problem is that Odyssey's open world is also way larger than Origin's open world and not in a good way.
2
Brandhor Mar 20, 2026 +4
it's big but I really liked it, greek mythology is always great and the side quests were really good the only thing that I think they could have done better is explaining the difference between the infinite white side quests and the story gold side quests, a lot of people thought that the white ones were the only sides and got bored pretty fast unfortunately thanks to that feedback they removed the side quests from valhalla and increase the number of main quests instead
4
pixlplayer Mar 20, 2026 +2
I absolutely loved that odyssey had so much of the Ancient Greek world. I never once got tired of exploring it, and ended up 100% the game more or less by accident. Valhalla on the other hand gets old pretty quick for me

So I've only kind of seen bits of friends playing them but there are two games that are set before this time period using Ancient Greece and Egypt as setting. So I think they are going with the assassins who have been around protecting us since the dawn of man.

AC Neanderthal.
3
BaggyOz Mar 20, 2026 -4
I played the Greek game so I'm aware there other past organisations wanting to control mankind amd people trying to stop them. It just feels like less of a hook than Templars vs Assassins. I understand why they'd want to stay far away from the Crusades but they could have done plenty of other time periods.
-4
Andybabez20 Mar 20, 2026 +5
There are 4 mainline games that are all set before the existence of the Assassins and Templars (Origins, Odyssey, Mirage and Valhalla) Instead they use the Order of the Ancients and the Hidden Ones who are proto-organisations.
5
qchisq Mar 20, 2026 +8
Nah. Both AC 1 and 2 establishes that the fight between Templars and Assassins dates back to the literal Adam and Eve. Until Alfred the Great, the Templars was called the Order of the Ancients and the Assassins wasn't a real thing until Cesars death. The Assassins was called the Hidden Ones until the mid 800s
8
PhilhelmScream Mar 20, 2026 +11
The original lore, Desmond's bloodline, has been ended and it's independent of modern setting & animus.
11
BaggyOz Mar 20, 2026 +2
Right but the modern lore and everything post Crusades is still Templars vs Assassins isn't it?
2
PhilhelmScream Mar 20, 2026
Yeah they're still core to it but they've mutated into difference groups/companies in the modern timeline. I'd say this is going to try flesh out a different form of them again in the past. Possibly to open up their options for storylines.
0
BoboSmooth Mar 20, 2026
What game did this become established? I thought they directly referenced Desmond Miles and the events of his timeline at least through to the Layla Hassan games
0
SablenoKiri Mar 20, 2026 +2
People get really caught up on the titles of Assassins and Templars when the actual war of ideals between the parties were fighting long before the crusades
2
Bubba1234562 Mar 21, 2026 +1
Nah, origins and odyssey focused on the groups that would become the assassins and the templars. It works
1
tfhermobwoayway Mar 20, 2026 -2
They retconned the lore for Origins. Which I’m still mildly annoyed about. Also Odyssey is set right at the start of the Templars.
-2
Galahad_the_Ranger Mar 20, 2026 +3
They didn’t retcon. AC2 already had a statue of Darius in the Auditore Crypt, showing the Assassins were much older than the Levantine Order
3
tfhermobwoayway Mar 20, 2026 -2
The story is a soft reboot. It’s a different setting. For example, the modern day is a lot less bleak than it was in the original games.
-2
Tenshizanshi Mar 20, 2026 +16
Us French find it hilarious that they casted Ramzy Bedia. He's from a humoristic duo Eric et Ramzy and it's really funny that somehow he ends up in a Netflix adaptation of a serious video game

5
Lvl1bidoof Mar 20, 2026 +3
According to AC Brotherhood, Henry Kissing Kissinger was a templar (had to be a little vague about it though bc he was alive at the time)
3
Hamntor Mar 20, 2026 +12
Man, why don't they just make a series of Ezio's story?
12
Andybabez20 Mar 20, 2026 +15
I much prefer when video game media tells original stories in the universe (Fallout, Arcane, Cyberpunk Edgerunners). It gives them more creative liberties. There's exceptions like Last of Us season 1 but usually when adaptations go more beat for beat they always seem to either not understand the characters or are limited in where they can take the story.
15
samsaBEAR Mar 20, 2026 +2
For a premise like AC, it seems silly to retell existing stories when they can pick literally any time in history and do an original one that fits into the universe
2
BusBoatBuey Mar 20, 2026 +1
That just sounds like an IP that lost its purpose. Assassin's Creed used to be more than an excuse to s*** in any time period in any location to do whatever.
1
Cletus_TheFetus Mar 20, 2026
The motto for the series is literally “History is our playground”
0
Hamntor Mar 20, 2026 -1
But the entire idea of retelling existing stories (which has happened since practically the dawn of time) is to introduce them to new audiences.
-1
tfhermobwoayway Mar 20, 2026 -2
Video game stories are always shit. A good showrunner will make their own story and elevate the setting.
-2
Hamntor Mar 20, 2026 +5
Spoken like someone who's never played a good video game
5
tfhermobwoayway Mar 21, 2026 -1
RDR2 doesn’t count. The gameplay is shit. A good game is defined by its incredible gameplay, not its incredible story. Game devs are trained in creating gameplay, not in creating Hollywood tier stories.
-1
Hamntor Mar 21, 2026 +1
Well, I never mentioned RDR2, but since we're spouting off games at random, God of War Mass Effect Baldur's Gate 3 The Witcher 3 Outer Wilds Disco Elysium Hades Halo the fuckin old Call of Duty Modern Warfare games had Hollywood tier stories. f*** outta here.
1
In_My_Own_Image Mar 20, 2026 +9
I think this series has potential. I've always thought the best way to handle and Assassin's Creed show would be for their to be a main, present cast and every season can have a new historical setting with a new cast to surround it. So, if this season does well enough to warrant a second, the next season can take place in 100 Year War Era France or some other location.
9
midnightmoose Mar 20, 2026 +6
Do the show like American horror story - an anthology series taking place in different times with new characters but allow actors and actresses to play new characters

Viriato181 Mar 20, 2026 +2
It's set in the Roman Empire and will involve Nero and the Great Fire of Rome. St. Peter and Paul died around this time, so I wonder if they'll also include the subsequent local persecution and execution of Christians by Nero.
2
PeterGoochSr Mar 21, 2026 +2
There's so much potential if they get this right. Like the series has a built in plot device which allows you to not only jump between time periods but reboot the cast whenever you want like an anthology series. Retain the modern day cast but lots of flexibility in what you do with historical settings. Like doctor who you can do a new assassin protagonist every few years if you wanted and it would work
2
