I thought she wanted to wait until she was 50 and then adopt a set of creepy adult twins from Romania.

Oh wow! Chris Abbott from Girls?! Congrats to them! She went through it last year and I’m glad she found happiness!

Me either! I was a little shocked when I read the article lol.

Kinda quick, no? I’m so confused lol Edit: I thought about it and who knows wtf was going on behind closed doors and what she’s had to deal with or how “done” she was before the official separation. It was probably exhausting dealing with addiction, mental health issues etc.

She's almost 42 and he died over a year ago. Life is short
419
MollyRocket Apr 8, 2026 +360
They were also separated before that.
360
dawn9476 Apr 8, 2026 +187
They had been seperated for four months before he died. And it's not like she got involved with a total stranger. This is someone she collaborated with for an off-Broadway play in 2020. They have probably been longtime friends.
187
Adavanter_MKI Apr 8, 2026 +93
Also... am I crazy, but they were already having problems? They were separated when he died. So she may have already been feeling distanced from it, but you don't ever expect that person to die. Even an ex can still hurt emotionally. So I'm not down playing that. Just that I can see why she was more than ready to move on.

swisssf Apr 9, 2026 +5
Six months after he killed himself they were photographed making out in a park. She clearly left her husband and moved to NYC to be with Chris Abbot.

She’s a hottie
4
amuday Apr 8, 2026 +64
Grief is weird and there’s no timeline for it. Patton Oswalt remarried a little over a year after his wife died in her sleep. Life is short and we should be happy that Aubrey Plaza and Patton Oswalt found the strength to continue living. I’m sure the year after each of them lost their spouse felt a lot longer to them than it did to us.
64
fractalfay Apr 8, 2026 +6
Add to this that even Hollywood is still bound to the biological clock to some degree, and if she wants to have a kid, it’s basically now or never. She worked with this dude on The Bear, which came out in 2020 and was a great film. Her husband openly struggled with mental health issues for years, and I’m happy for her that she chose to keep living.

Eh, pregnancy and babies don't always come at the optimal time in life, but it is what it is
2

Not at all! Men move on faster. Good for her. She's 42. She wanted a baby and she is living her life.
13
Jane-CR Apr 8, 2026 +5
They were separated for four months. She had already moved to NYC in September, four months before he passed.
5
Outside-Parsnip-7619 Apr 8, 2026 +131
Same considering that her husband died last year.
131
Neeeedtosleeep Apr 8, 2026 +321
They were already separated before then
321
PastimeOfMine Apr 8, 2026 +257
Ok, I feel like this should be somewhat cleared up as someone who's experienced separation. That doesn't mean fully estranged. They were separated only 4 months before he killed himself and she had been worried about his mental health in that time, she sent a wellness check over once that we know of. She was the last person he contacted before he was found by his dogwalker. It was a little over a year ago. She also gave an interview 7 months after about their relationship and the depths of grief she'd been feeling and what that experience is like. All that said she can move on and deal however she well pleases, but I can't help feeling annoyance at people asking about her dead husband and everyone responding with estranged husband as if emotionally that makes all the difference in the world. We have no idea if they were heading for divorce or what was going on for them emotionally, and she spoke with great love and affection for her husband and referred to him as such which matters the most. That's just me clarifying though. I'm personally happy for her. Aubrey plaza strikes me as someone who wouldn't be having a child with someone if she wasn't excited/very happy to.
257
Kikikididi Apr 8, 2026 +147
I think people are saying that not because they doubt her depth of emotion, but because it's being said with an implication that she "moved on quickly" or whatever.
147
PastimeOfMine Apr 8, 2026 +7
I don't necessarily think you're wrong about the reason for the comments but I think they're maybe the worst argument against "she moved on fast." ETA for me the argument is just that's not a thing. There's no factual pace that's too fast. You move at whatever pace is right for you in grief, whether divorce or death.
7
Kikikididi Apr 8, 2026 +16
Yeah, completely agree. I think though that people are being well-intended rather than trying to diminish that relationship specifically.
16
No_Skill_7170 Apr 8, 2026 +1
It took me like 5 years to get over a breakup. I just don’t understand how people move on quickly.
1
prettyboylee Apr 8, 2026 +44
That's fine as long as you not understanding doesn't come with you looking down on them
44
grandmillennial Apr 8, 2026 +6
I have the completely opposite take. They may have only been separated for 4 months, but how long were one or both of them unhappy in the relationship? It's actually pretty rare in adult relationships that everything is going great until, BAM, something happens to quickly end the relationship. Were they in therapy for years trying to make it work? He obviously suffered from immense mental health problems. Was she perhaps afraid to leave him for years but finally had the strength and support to put her needs first? That also doesn't mean that she didn't deeply care about him as a human being. They were married for over a decade. Of course she is going to have deep feelings about that person ending their life and the guilt that comes with being a survivor of such a selfish and sad final act. But being legally separated for 4 months doesn't mean everything was hunky dory up until that point. By all accounts she was the one that initiated the separation. She could have been checked out on romantic feelings for her husband years ago while still caring for him as a friend/person. We don't know any of this information and it's frankly not our business. But it's weird to pretend that legal separation was the actual end date of their marriage when it realistically occurred before that.
6
Outside-Parsnip-7619 Apr 8, 2026 +19
She moved on quickly. It's okay to state that fact.
19
Johnnadawearsglasses Apr 8, 2026 +86
She’s 41 dude. If she wanted kids, there was no 5 year mourning period wearing all black.
86
chocolatecoconutpie Apr 8, 2026 +3
How is after 1 year moving on quick?
3
PastimeOfMine Apr 8, 2026 +31
She did what was right for her. There is no factual fast or slow point in grief (maybe just whatever subjective number is in your head that wouldn't be fast). Whether someone dies or it's just divorce.

The chain of events here certainly points in 1 direction. I’m not gonna come to any definite conclusions without definite evidence but it’s funny how a celeb Listnook dislikes will get torn apart over far less evidence of wrongdoing than this

I kind of love this for her ngl. I hope they have a happy life
29
Sunshine030209 Apr 8, 2026 +9
I've heard a theory that people who had a really good relationship with their spouse when they died tend to seek a new relationship faster than people who weren't happy, and that the new relationship is typically more successful. So beyond the practicality of it, it could be that her emense love for her first husband helped her to move on and find happiness, and I think that's really sweet. I'm sure he'd want her to live a full, happy life.

What other choice do you have if you’re 40 and your goal is to have a baby with someone lol
46
NastyMothaFucka Apr 8, 2026 +32
You’re getting too adult for Listnook right now.
32
New_Condition_1405 Apr 8, 2026 +11
So judgy! It's not standard, but that doesn't really matter as long as they're happy together/with their choices.
11
natawas Apr 8, 2026 +5
Most people don’t show you who they are within the first 6 months or even year of a relationship. Tying yourself and a child to a total stranger who can have all sorts of mental or other issues that you don’t know for at least 18 years is reckless and desperate - if it works it’s just dumb luck
5
New_Condition_1405 Apr 8, 2026 +8
Well I'd say that we don't know pretty much anything about them or their relationship. Maybe they had all the right conversations, planned it out, and hit all the correct milestones to feel secure about each other in a short amount of time. Or maybe she said "Hey I'd like a relationship and to have a child with you, but if things don't work out, I'll take full custody and have the resources to be a single mom." I have no clue. But either way, they'd be far from the first couple to get serious in a short timeframe. Even if it's not how I'd do things, it's really not my place to judge, imo.
8
OtherwiseAlbatross14 Apr 8, 2026 +7
Your judgement of someone you don't even know is the only yikes here.
7
ChuckFinleysBrewski Apr 8, 2026 +65
Not that I would judge either way, but I believe they were separated a bit prior to him passing.
65

14
Outside-Parsnip-7619 Apr 8, 2026 +20
She was with him for 13 years, separated for 3-4 months before he did the thing. Then she started dating a costar few months after. I don't know why some ppl here are allergic to that info.
20
gangrenegod Apr 8, 2026 +11
No one is allergic to the info but you sure are making a concentrated effort to make sure everyone knows it to the point of being distasteful as a fellow woman
11
SaintGrobian Apr 8, 2026 +6
Would you give a man the same grace, if his long-time wife separated from him due to cheating rumors, she killed herself over it, and he knocked someone up the next year? Or would you feel that says something about men as a whole?
6

The fellow in the picture. He’s an actor, currently on Broadway in Death of a Salesman with Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf.

I’ve been trying to catch him on Broadway for years and I’m seeing DoaS next Thursday 🙌🏼. Christopher Abbot was a huge draw for me lol (but obvs Nathan and Laurie are up there too).

My mom and I met him at a play on broadway and she was so embarrassed that she couldn’t place him (she thought he played John snow but was too afraid to say). His friend said he was in girls and she near shit herself. He seemed like he wanted no attention but was very polite and kind

4
NastyMothaFucka Apr 8, 2026 +15
He was in Possessor which was directed by David Cronenberg’s son and is a f****** brutal film but he’s really, really good in it. He did this small indie with Jon Bernthal I think called “Sweet Virginia” or something like that. He’s a good actor.
15

He was an annoying character in Girls
41
flubberjamman Apr 8, 2026 +110
They were all annoying
110
CubitsTNE Apr 8, 2026 +28
I thought that was the whole point of the show. I remember the unique way the characters were all annoying, but he is the only one I can't remember *at all*. Was his sin that he was massively boring?
28
Fun-Yogurtcloset1084 Apr 8, 2026 +18
Does failed tech bro turned heroin addict ring a bell?
18
Perfect-Zebra-3611 Apr 8, 2026 +7
He was Marnies first BF so yes he was massively boring and thats why she left him lol
7
ladymadonna4444 Apr 8, 2026 +4
Maybe because he was a golden retriever boyfriend and Marnie left him. But he got infinitely more interesting in what is one the most popular and acclaimed episodes of the show when him and Marnie cross paths again and it almost feels like its own movie (Season 5 ep called *The Panic in Central Park*). He showed his chops in that one I became super intrigued by him as an actor.

TLDR: * Aubrey Plaza is pregnant! * A source tells PEOPLE that Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, [Chris Abbott](https://people.com/christopher-abbott-chewing-leg-wolf-man-gross-but-delicious-8774475), and is due this fall. * “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source says, adding that “they feel very blessed.”

I’m shocked, I didn’t know she was dating anyone. But, I’m not here to judge. When my brother died, I was insane with grief and made the unexpected choice to get back with my ex and immediately got pregnant (had never wanted to be a mom before that). I’m separated from my ex now but my son was the best thing that’s ever happened to me. He saved me from myself. I wish Aubrey the best ❤️

5
percypersimmon Apr 8, 2026 +112
It’s been a little over a year since his death. However, they were estranged for at least half a year prior to that.
112
Outside-Parsnip-7619 Apr 8, 2026 +28
No, they took time off at end of 2024 and he passed in Jan 2025. Not a year or more prior, people need to stop spinning these stories.
28
percypersimmon Apr 8, 2026 +19
I thought he had died in March, so I had that wrong. Not trying to “spin a tail.” Regardless it’s been about a year and a half since it was public that they had separated. None of us know any details beyond that, but I’d assume that they didn’t go public on the very first day they split up.
19
wankthisway Apr 8, 2026 +6
The f****** irony. You're here bleating facts heavily hinting at your own narrative. You're a deeply unhappy person if you're so invested in celebrity culture you have to snark like this. Have whatever opinion you want and move on. Or are you jealous or something?
6

Everyone in this thread clapping for this baby must be!
4
Ok_Advantage_5147 Apr 8, 2026 +6
What’s the alternative? Going after the baby for the circumstances of its birth? Where does that end and what does that achieve? It’s a baby, they have no control over any of it.
6
MaraTaru Apr 8, 2026 +68
They had separated a while before his death, so it's not that sudden. Very, very emotionally complex, I think. She really deserves some happiness and stability.
68
Baelish2016 Apr 8, 2026 +5
Ah yes, the stability of rushing into a relationship and having a baby with them.
5
Nick-Bemo Apr 8, 2026 +85
The entire thing is weird. Aubrey Plaza acted alongside Christopher Abbot in a 2020 movie called black bear then she was in an off broadway play with him in 2023 right before she took a “break” with her husband who killed himself shortly afterwards. Now it’s been a year and a half since her husbands death and she’s already pregnant?
85

She finished her off-Broadway play with Chris Abbott in January 2026. When she separated in September of that year, she immediately moved to NYC, where Chris Abbot lives. She had already established a romance before leaving her husband IMO.

Good for her. A partner or ex partner's suicide is extremely violent and lonely. I'm glad she has him, either because they had feelings before, or if they found love after this time

There is a photo of them from 2020 the nypost included. I don’t think it takes a body language expert to see how she felt about this man. Then finally marries her partner in 2021? The OTT Instagram posts about him. All definitely weird

16 months ago since her estranged husband from whom she was separated, committed suicide

He died a while back like a year. The biological clock is unforgiving though. Even if he died a few months ago i don’t blame a woman for fast tracking having a child if she feels she’s running out of time. Once the window closes, it’s closed forever.

So very true. What if the separation had something to do with her wanting kids and him not wanting kids? We see this all the time. Partners without kids separate after many years, and one of them moves on real quick and is/gets someone pregnant right away, and they seem happier in their new relationship. It’s not rare.

Didn't you JUST not read the article? Her husband died last year. People are allowed to live their lives without your judgement.

Genuinely happy for her and wishing her all the best. I’m going to also choose to believe the pregnancy is going well since she’s publicly announcing.

Being with someone for so long with chronic depression and suicidal tendencies is so difficult. It’s amazing she was able to prioritize her peace and happiness and leave the relationship. Grief is complicated especially regarding suicide. I’m glad she’s moving with her life

The suicide of a partner is extreamely violent and cruel. And very lonely. My ex killed himself to spite me, because I didnt want to be with him anymore. Not saying that's teh case here. I'm glad she find someone to go through this with her, and she's starting this new chapter.

Thank you, that's very kind❤️. It happened some years ago , time and a lot of therapy helped me to  process it all, the best I could

She wasn't in a relationship with him when he died. They separated the year before but headlines are misleading.

Didn’t her husband just die less than a year ago from suicide?
9
kentgrey Apr 8, 2026 +17
He died over a year ago, and they had been separated for a number of months prior to his death. When you're in your 40s, if you want kids, it's sort of do it now or don't. She didn't have years and years to wait.
