As an Australian I just want to say, good for her, and I hope I never ever have to hear from her again. Every time somebody from the military comes up it's for all the wrong reasons. May she have a long and boring career!

\+1 The good eggs are the ones just get it done, she looks solid. Unlike some of the other officers promoted, like that dickhead that had multiple complaints against him, still getting pushed higher up the chain.

She is a good un'

Idk about Australia, but over here in my country, we will hear about them usually thrice. When they assume a high command position, then their step down from said position years later, then a little bit later news about their new position in our politically dominant party. Not many scandals though thankfully.

Sounds like Singapore.

As an Australian, I’d be worried about the glass cliff if I were here (See: Susssssan)

That still doesn't change the fact that there are 49 million kangaroos in Australia and 3.5 million people in Uruguay. Which means if the kangaroos were to invade Uruguay, each person will have to fight 14 kangaroos.

Wait until you hear what the emu can do.

herlanrulz 6 hr ago +7
American here: (sorry) Aren't they the birds that participate in non-consensual love?
7
TowelCarryingTourist 6 hr ago +10
Search for "great emu war". Thr kangaroos have never won a war.
10
herlanrulz 5 hr ago +3
That sounds like some current conflicts. Conventional armies spending their nations into oblivion to combat drones that cost a couple hundred bucks.

EtherealPheonix 5 hr ago +1
Maybe not on their own, but the Canadian's brought hundreds of them to battle the Germans back in the day.

I thought ducks were the biggest offenders there?

herlanrulz 6 hr ago +4
I've spent a lifetime online, and used to have a bunch of Aussie guildmates. It's not always easy to separate fact from "aw I was just yankin' your chain mate".

TowelCarryingTourist 5 hr ago +1
Yep. Just when you think we are taking the piss by pulling your leg, we turn around and take the piss be being straight as.

You need to read up on The Emu Wars ( spoiler - the Australian Army lost ).

you afraid of the roos and emus? it's the drop bears that'll get ya
2
za72 4 hr ago +1
Emus aren't real, that's just a coverup
1
Sans-valeur 6 hr ago +6
Does that mean that next door with 5.3 million, we’re safe because we’d need to fight less than 14 per person? That’s reassuring. Plus the wallabies and laser kiwis would have our backs.
6
poukai 5 hr ago
Excellent, our masterplan luring Kiwiland into a false sense of security has worked. Emutopia for ever! Release the Tasmanian devils! \*evil laughter intensifies\*

Do you think that’s going to be a thing or can I rest easy in my opera house?
3
Trep_xp 5 hr ago +2
If you're in an Opera House you're more at risk from attack by [seals](https://incidentallysydney.com/blog/bennytheseal).

KnotSoSalty 6 hr ago +3
The President of Uruguay probably has a Ned Stark type who reminds him that the Kangaroos have no ships.
3
N0guaranteeofsanity 2 hr ago +1
They don't need ships! https://youtube.com/shorts/g6R-tE_HjQE?si=qo9RZmwUhE1UimcL

squeeze-my-lizard 6 hr ago +3
As a neighbor of that amazing small country, I can confirm you (or cangurus) cannot fight Uruguay. It’s impossible. They are the nicest people, in less than 5min you’d be drinking mate with them and calling them hermanos.
3
Trep_xp 5 hr ago +2
Pffft that's so unrealistic But they *could* invade NZ. It's just across the ditch.

Found Bob Catters sock puppet account right here.

Less eyeliner than couch f*****

herlanrulz 6 hr ago +15
probably? Trump and Kegsbreath could give the cast of Drag Race a run for their money on makeup used.

Facebook dads about to lose their minds between this and their favourite war criminal getting arrested
22
derverdwerb 3 hr ago +6
They’re way ahead of you. My Facebook feed is just full of these mysogynist idiots saying they stand with the murderer and accusing the army of DEI.
6
Uzorglemon 2 hr ago +1
As someone who is on Facebook all to often for work, I'm already seeing a staggering amount of negativity and outright misinformation. It's really sad.
1
ILUVMOVIESSS 6 hr ago +21
But what's her plan for the second emu war?
21
Unumbotte 6 hr ago +6
A pre-emptive strike.
6
beegtuna 5 hr ago +9
They have been 2 months away from making a nuclear bomb for 3 decades.
9
TowelCarryingTourist 5 hr ago +1
Wasn't it 47 years?

Pre-emutive strike

Congratulations from this female US Army veteran!

Sieve-Boy 2 hr ago +1
Just go read General Coyle's experience, leadership and command history, training and education. The General has a lot of experience.
1
vacri 3 hr ago +3
Was wondering why she and her predecessor were 'only' lieutenant generals. Apparently the only full 'general' in our army is whomever holds the post of chief-of-army (I'm used to hearing other militaries having many 'generals')
3
AdventurousDay3020 2 hr ago +1
The rank of “General” in Australia is only held by those appointed to the position of CDF, not CA. Hence why both Simon Stuart and Susan Coyle are “only” Lieutenant Generals. There are only 2 permanent three star positions in the ADF being the other service chiefs who hold an equivalent rank but there are other three stars across the Australian Defence Organisation.
1
vacri 2 hr ago +1
So sometimes we have a 'general' and sometimes we don't, depending on if a soldier is holding that office at the time (rather than a sailor or airman)?
1
AdventurousDay3020 2 hr ago +1
Correct. In the same way that navy only have a four star Admiral if the CDF is navy.
1
GageRoadsGull 2 hr ago +1
Close but not quite, a full General (a four star rank) would be Chief of the Defence Force, while the heads of Army, Navy and Air Force are all three star ranks (Lieutenant general, Vice Admiral or Air Marshal). The previous Chief of Defence was from the Army and was a General. The current Chief of Defence Force was appointed from the Navy and is a four star Admiral, while the Chief of Navy is ‘only’ a three star Vice Admiral.

Go girl! Women are just as capable of perpetuating immorality as men!

drainfrog_92 6 hr ago -23
Genuinely cool milestone, but I’m way more interested in what she does about stuff like veteran care and procurement waste. Maybe media should press harder on those instead of just the “first woman” angle.
-23
derverdwerb 5 hr ago +33
The Chief of Army doesn’t have jurisdiction over veterans’ affairs, and if she did, it’d only be for members of the Army - not the other two services. Those issues are the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
33
AdventurousDay3020 3 hr ago +15
I would recommend knowing what Australia’s Chief of Army does prior to commenting on it if you’re going to make silly comments and disparage her achievement
15
-Striking-Willow- 3 hr ago +10
Maybe you should try harder at knowing what you're talking about before you start looking for something to criticize. Neither of those are things she will be responsible for. If those are topics that you actually care about and aren't just bristling automatically because a headline mentioned the "first woman" angle, which is, as you acknowledged, a noteworthy milestone, you could start by looking up the department of veterans affairs and the minister for veterans affairs and defence personnel, Matt Keogh

Dismal_Animal4637 2 hr ago +1
Army don’t run large procurement projects - CASG exists to do that, and is where you’d be looking for procurement waste (outside of small procurement, but that’s not the main waste). CASG have a civilian head (Depsec CASG) not a uniform one.

That's some prime DEI right there, gj
-32
AdventurousDay3020 3 hr ago +17
She’s been commander of the Middle East AO for Australia, previously held the appointment of Chief of Joint Operations, Commander of FORCOMD and has multiple deployments under her belt. She’s had a distinguished career since 1987, and there are only three out of the nine three star officers in the ADF who are female, so please tell me how she is a DEI hire when she has clearly gotten to where she has on her own merit.
17
derverdwerb 3 hr ago +10
She isn’t a DEI promotion, u/Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 just hates women.
10
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 3 hr ago -20
I do? Ah thanks for clarifying that
-20
joefarnarkler 3 hr ago +12
Are there any conditions for you, under which a woman could have this kind of job without being accused of being a DEI hire?
12
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 3 hr ago -21
That's the problem nowadays, it's so pushed everywhere all the time that we don't know anymore who deserves it or not
-21
joefarnarkler 3 hr ago +16
You seemed to have been able to make up your mind. How did you come to your conclusion?
16
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 3 hr ago -10
What do you mean?
-10
Ohmynamageoff 3 hr ago +1
Surely an Officer who’s been in since 1987 is a person who would clearly qualify, ya gronk Ps worked with her, would do so again
1
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 3 hr ago +1
Plenty of old timers in the army, and plenty have worked with plenty. What's you point
1
Athrul 3 hr ago +1
Yet you know exactly that she doesn't deserve it...
1
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 3 hr ago +1
We don't know who deserves it anymore
1
Highwinter 3 hr ago +7
Saying this right after it came out that the head of the US military blocked promotions of certain people (almost all POC and women) in order to push people who share their loyalties is hilarious. You're being played like a fiddle.

AdvertisingFun3739 3 hr ago +1
DEI is when women do things
1
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 3 hr ago +1
DEI is when you force things to happen because of a bias
1
AdvertisingFun3739 2 hr ago +1
Could you provide an explanation as to why a woman isn’t deserving of this position?
1
Unhappy-Bullfrog5597 2 hr ago +1
Already discussed above. Not saying she doesn't deserve it, the problem is we'll never know
1
Lase189 3 hr ago +1
Yay, more women war criminals. This is the second best news for feminism I've heard after Kim Jong Un's daughter being named his successor.
