Are they really Australians? Do we even *want* them back in Australia? > Prime Minister Anthony Albanese saying he had no sympathy for their plight Neither. If you wanna go join a terror/hate group... Then go! We don't want you back.

Hate Group is a mighty generous term for ISIS

>Are they really Australians? If they hold an Australian passport, then yes they are >Do we even want them back in Australia? I'd imagine that most of us don't. I certainly don't. However - denying entry to citizens is extremely problematic. Undermining the value and power of an Australian passport is extremely problematic. This causes all Australian citizens to be worse off. If these people have committed crimes then they should be arrested and prosecuted for those crimes, as they will be if they return. Edit: Evidently many people here think the cost of prosecution and incarceration of these terrorists is greater than the benefit gained by Australians having an inalienable right to return. Instead preferring for this to be solely at the discretion of the Minister of the day. Just to save a few bucks. Wow.

Management has the right to refuse entry. Bringing them back sets a worse precedent than allowing them back in.

>Management has the right to refuse entry. No, this is the whole point of an inalienable right to return. >Bringing them back sets a worse precedent than allowing them back in. Nobody is being "brought back". However if they arrive at an Australian border control point under their own steam - there is no precedent to be set - denying entry to Australians would set a precedent. Free passage through national borders is the status quo. You want a politician to decide which Australians can come home and which ones can't. I disagree fundamentally, and think it's crazy to afford government ministers this power.

Why would someone who willingly joined a terrorist organization want to return to Australia now?

Splinterfight 12 hr ago +45
Because the organisation failed, and now they’re up shit creek

To spread their ideology.

Exactly. If they wanted to be a part of a hate/terrorist group... then go! We don't ever want them back here in Australia.

Why Australia? If living under fanatical Islamic law was what they wanted, why not pick the Taliban, ISIS-West Africa, Boko Haram?

If you think they were part of isis why not prosecute them? Why dump your citizens in another country?

Onepackfatness 14 hr ago +29
So you can protect Australians from another Bondi ??? Why would they be allowed back

firstinlinex2 13 hr ago -12
As he said to prosecute. Send them to jail for terror laws i guess. Would you rather them free or in jail?

Pani_ki_bottle 13 hr ago +12
I would assume life in Syria is worse than life in Australian prisons
12
Tel_Janen 13 hr ago -28
Nah the simple answer is there is no evidence for women and kids being guilty of anything but guilt by association
-28
Pani_ki_bottle 13 hr ago +14
Kids yes, women no. Unlike in sharia law, Australia treats women as people. That includes being held accountable for your actions.

Tel_Janen 10 hr ago +1
Lmao dude what's sharia law got to do with this?

Women and children are going too do a bondi?

Because they committed an offence in another country, probably. Nobody dumped them there. They actually went to some effort to get there.

It's not a defence to be overseas when you commit the crime of joining a terrorist organisation. They are the wives and kids of ISIS fighters, it's not clear if the wives signed up.
-11
Tel_Janen 13 hr ago -28
Where is the evidence? Being the husband of an isis fighter or the child of one doesn't make you guilty unless u have evidence they did something wrong. In which case u prosecute them. Not dump them somewhere else This is what i call second class citizenship

These are the lunatics lefties I mentioned in another comment, ignore them, they live in little fantasy worlds of their own indignation.

alba_Phenom 13 hr ago +5
They dumped themselves in another country.
