That is such a long time in baby years :(

I was just thinking about how such a big part of their development was missed by their parents. 2 years is a lifetime in baby development. Imagine losing your six month old and getting a 2.5 year old back.

I spend to much time stressing over not f****** my kid up that I would spiral if I was in this situation.

It's heartwarming to see a mother reunite with her child. Never birthed a baby but that feeling of having your baby back must be precious.

While heartwarming because there's a happy ending, I cannot fathom losing the first couple years of my child's life and not having those amazing memories. I have adult children now and those days were some of my absolute favorite. The kids won't remember, but those poor parents will never forget.

This is exactly why I got out of the military. I've seen father's miss an entire year of their baby's life. That's a lifetime and you basically have to reintroduce yourself to your own child. When I met my wife, I knew I was done. I wanted to be part of everything and didn't want the uniform to get in the way.

The kids may not specifically remember, but this is absolutely going to be coded as trauma for them. It's heartbreaking.

You sound like a wonderful mother. I am sure your babies must be happy adults.

As a mother I would be crawling out of my skin to get to my child. I can’t even imagine the relief they feel but it breaks my heart that they’ve been apart for so long

Losing the baby during that time must have been torture

Indeed. I agree.

Dystopia news disguised as a feel-good story.

Look at the joy in her face, as a parent I can't imagine the pain this mother must have gone through.

Why weren’t the parents allowed to go with them? Even if they couldn’t have gone during the initial evacuation of the babies, surely at some point in the ensuing two years Egypt could have facilitated their parents joining them. I can’t imagine how hard that must have been for their parents to be separated for so long. Especially considering they were premature and needed medical treatment.

Mainly security concerns. Egypt has been very concerned about insurgents entering the country under the guise of being refugees.

That’s true, but I don’t buy that it would have been impossible to vet and allow in the parents of those babies specifically at some point during those 2 years.

Clearly Egypt disagreed, they have a long conflict with Hamas and terror groups in the north Sinai region of Egypt. As such they leveled tons of homes, built a wall and destroyed underground tunnels to seal out Hamas insurgents. The problem for them is how do you identify who is Hamas and not? And do you also risk destabilizing your own country to let it potential terrorists across your border? What if vetting fails and someone kills your citizens? This wasn’t a great solution, but it was likely the only one that didn’t risk endangering their people as well.

I'm happy they were reunited

I wonder how they will fare in Gaza after living all their lives in Egypt.

You people are irredeemable ghouls. I hope you never get a moment of peace in your life.

How can you be pro Israel and pro peace? They're war mongers.

It's a bait comment.

As long as it's not a master comment too.

And Hamas isn't?

Dalisca Apr 1, 2026 +9
The families and children of Gaza, Iraq, and Lebanon are ***not*** Hamas. It's like bombing Trenton and claiming victory over the Sopranos.

How so? It's their government, is it not? Why is every family and child in Israel responsible forntheir governments actions but the Palestinians are not? Get off your high horse.

Israeli citizens are openly for what their government is doing. It's documented. There is nationalist fervor, and it's not hidden even a tiny bit. Most Palestinians alive today have never had a choice in their government, have no way of holding their government responsible, and have been bombed literally to pieces. Anyone with even an ounce of empathy can see how this can lead to further radicalization.

Israel claims to be a Democracy. Gaza does not. If Israel drops the facade that it's a democracy (since it really isn't anyway) the Israeli people might get a pass for being victims of a government they can't control. But as long as Israeli leadership can say "hey, they voted for this" and the populace says "yeah, we voted for this" they're deserving of criticism.

TR_Pix Apr 1, 2026 +6
So you're saying Israel is a terrorist organization on par with Hamas?
6
FriedRice2682 Apr 1, 2026 +6
It's possible to be critical of a government policies and the actions it ensues, while wishing it's people to live in peace. That being said, Israelis past and current actions and polling are really sucking more and more empathy out of the equation.

A_Nonny_Muse Apr 1, 2026 -10
But it is not possible to criticize a government without bigotry against it's citizens. According to at least one government.

This should be an indictment on Israel for you. The Israelis separated the mother and babies while exterminating thousands more. They murdered over 1,000 babies in Gaza under the age of 1.

The Palestinians are an occupied people, Israel is a supremacist state that is occupying Palestine. Hamas didn't "murder Jews" they murdered Israelis, it's not the Palestinians fault their oppressors are Jewish.

I wish for you and your family the same level of comfort, dignity and ease that you wish for Gazans and their families.

It's April 1. I read that too quickly, and saw "excavated." Morbid, but plausible.
