These news outlets targeting bot driven social media reports, are bot written and driven on social media, circle jerking it's lifecycle

It’s the dead internet theory playing out

OhScheisse Mar 28, 2026 +19
I agree. I've literally seen brand new bot accounts on Instagram replying to each other. It's always same type of account with no pics, posts, or followers.
19
Cold-Crab74 Mar 28, 2026 +21
Meanwhile we have actual bot armies driving division and bullshit culture war stuff yet they report on those things as if they are legit. But this this is the real bot activity right??? Fuckin complicit scum

RabbiTheHellcat Mar 28, 2026 +9
haven't seen one post about all the r/HarryPotteronHBO bots or all the politcal bots but something like this happens and all of a sudden the msm are bot experts

Crazy when I pointed out that this was a smear campaign people told me I was being a cat fan even though she only has one song I even like. I think the scariest part is people are so quick to immediately believe anything with out even a little bit of evidence
3
Pinksamuraiiiii Mar 28, 2026 +4
I don’t buy it anyways. They say it was a bot-driven smear campaign, but then why was the wife doing a video against her, and the husband posting stuff online hatefully, this was clearly more than that. Then the security guard came out and said he wasn’t even part of Chappell’s posse, that he was with Sabrina Carpenter lol. Just a messed up circle and no one knows what’s what.

She has a pattern of being an a****** to people at events. "Bots" feels like a super lazy excuse

There is only so mad you can be at someone who has had no interaction without you or even the person the story is about

Or Brexit. Turns out UK internet streams were absolutely flooded with Russian bots in the run up to the election to spread lies to supercharge votes to leave the EU and make the UK weaker economically. Do that next too.

CrustyTh3Punk Mar 28, 2026 +15
2016 on Facebook was insane. Gabbard accounts trying to poach dissatisfied Bernie supporters after the DNC pushed him out of the primaries was when I stepped back and went “Whoa”. All these “new” news sites popped up just absolutely flooding my feed. Not subtle with the “.ru” link, either. Wasn’t until a few years later that I learned about Cambridge Analytica and their O.C.E.A.N. program they ran using the FB data they got that gauged how susceptible you were to different forms of propaganda that I realized it was like a penetration test for people’s minds. Given America has a population that averages a 6th-8th grade reading level with the same level of critical thought, that terrified me.
15
Level_Improvement532 Mar 28, 2026 +10
The book Mindf*ck is a terrifying read about Cambridge Analytica. Nothing was done about it and it continued. Here we are.
10
K-Tronn3030 Mar 28, 2026 +7
It wasn't just Facebook. This place was a f****** cesspool and, the irony of it is, even if you go to a comment section now where Bernie is mentioned, you're going to hear the same bullshit pushed by those bots claiming that "the DNC pushed [Bernie] out of the primaries" when he f****** lost by millions of votes because he targeted the youth vote even though primaries are won by winning older voters who actually show up on election day.

This happened I believe last year with her as well.  I remember Listnook being just absolutely flooded with garbage articles about her.  I wouldn’t doubt that the studios these people work with pay these bot farms to plug their people.
17
GoldDoubleCup Mar 28, 2026 +8
That’s a simple factor I’ve pointed out which has led to her fans losing it on me The article provides an estimated amount of traffic created by bots for the story. But we need a control group to see base level bot activity on a popular artist.
8
shindig0 Mar 28, 2026 +2
I did a class project on the top 10 comments on videos posted by news outlets on TikTok and trying to decipher if they were bots (didn’t use tech to figure it out, but could usually look at the username, photo, and reposts and quickly tell). Could also tell from the content of the comment which often was trying to sell a product which was also made by ai. I found that over half the comments were usually bots, and it was worse for videos with very low view counts because I think the majority of those views were from the bots commenting
2
Hairy-Summer7386 Mar 28, 2026 +13
You can really tell who read the article here and did other outside research. • 4.2% of the users found contained “non-usual activity”. • The company that’s behind this analytics is a relatively new company with no real background or history. So, it’s hard to tell how authentic and accurate these findings are. • Also the company utilizes AI to analyze these users behaviour. So, again, unreliable. I genuinely can’t believe people are just reading the title and rolling with it. Holy shit.
13
Big_Asparagus_581 Mar 28, 2026 +7
It's insane. The company that does these purity tests was pretty much made to be a PR crisis firm. The first notable thing they involved themselves in was the newest Taylor Swift album. They said all the hate around that was inorganic yet anyone with eyes and internet access could see that it was organic. The bot traffic they find happens to every piece of pop culture news but they try to play it off as a targeted attack to whoever paid them.
7
james-HIMself Mar 28, 2026 +12
They concluded 22% could be bots. That’s still 78% potential authentic. These posts are so desperate to exonerate someone without proof
12
devilsbard Mar 28, 2026 +79
This feels pertinent: “The data analytics company GUDEA looked at 100,030 posts across social media platforms from March 20 to March 22. The posts were generated by 54,334 users, but GUDEA found that 4.2 per cent of them, or around 2,282, were ‘non-typical’ – in other words, likely bots.“ So according to research only 4.2% of the users talking about it were bots. That’s seems pretty low all things considered.
79
alsoaVinn Mar 28, 2026 +178
More pertinent is the following sentence you left out: "These bots made up over 23 per cent, or 23,007 of the posts." So a small minority of bot accounts, but posting multiple times to make up a large amount of the actual activity. A much more relevant number than amount of bots
178
SoftwareAny4990 Mar 28, 2026 +87
Also, there is an implication that those bots dupe other people in to outrage.
87
MarsRocks97 Mar 28, 2026 +30
Yes. Especially if they are the first ones to engage. I was noticing a pattern that all the negative posts were at the top before any of the positive posts were listed.
30
Scruffylookin13 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Per cent?
1
sally_says Mar 28, 2026 +44
I agree, however they accounted for almost a quarter of the 100,000 posts they analysed, so there is that.
44
SehtTheGreat Mar 28, 2026 +36
Also depends on when they posted. If a quarter of the posts are bots but the first say, 1000 posts are 95% bots, then it can definitely get real people worked up enough to continue posting
36

Bots are meant to stir shit up. They are automated ragebait. 4% is likely enough to trigger far more rage if they bait tastes good. Why would someone want to attack her? No way to know for sure, but I’d bet she was not specifically targeted, but rather conveniently. Many bot drivers are simply out to stir up rage in our communities they don’t care about what so much.

satanssweatycheeks Mar 28, 2026 +1
Yeah I’m a human. Don’t delete my post history so you can tell. I hate Chappell because she claims to support us queers but told everyone Harris is the same as Trump. Harris wants us to have rights. Trump wants gay people to not exist. You can call out Israeli and the democrats without glazing the right or without urging people not to vote because “both sides” are the same. Wanna talk about bots and propaganda? Anyone who preached both sides and didn’t vote are the main reason we are in this mess. Math isn’t hard. Majority of Americans didn’t vote. And the GOP is open with the fact less voter turnout out helps them win. We even have Supreme Court cases that prove this.
1
u2aerofan Mar 28, 2026 +10
This is a huge problem we need to legislate or do SOMETHING about. It’s taken truth and democracy from us. This is just a small and perfect example.
10
Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Mar 28, 2026 +66
This story is crazy. So many people jumped on to hate her. Tiktok, Instagram, YouTube, all full of videos mocking her and how she treats fans. I have not seen a single video with the actual story. This smear campaign clearly worked.
66
Iwona_Klich Mar 28, 2026 +18
And after we get a full story there are still people who demand her to apologise... Erm shes not even a part of the incident, so apologise for what?
18

she expressed condolences / sorrow as well. there's no pleasing some people.
6
Diredr Mar 28, 2026 -3
She has a reputation for being the "Karen of Pop". She constantly puts herself in situations where she looks unpleasant to be around. That's why so many people jumped on the story. She's annoying and a lot of people love to hate. She honestly needs to hire a better PR team.

I don’t like Blake Lively. Never have, at least since she put out that antebellum-worshipping lifestyle blog. When Baldoni’s PR team started their bot campaign against her, I became convinced she lied and made up the entire sexual harassment case against him. Then it came out that they were using bots and orchestrating a very expensive smear campaign against Lively, more facts of the actual case came out, and it became clear that the sexual harassment case was very real despite Lively being an obnoxious human. If I was able to recognize that a bot campaign persuaded me to unfairly pile onto someone who I already didn’t like, then I have faith that you can recognize the same. We can dislike someone for real reasons and *still* fall for a smear campaign against them.

9
Iwona_Klich Mar 28, 2026 +5
And what you actualy know about her behaviour? You don't like her, you only know the bs stories :)
5
DenseTiger5088 Mar 28, 2026 +2
What behavior towards other queer people? Genuine question, I don’t know what she’s done against other queer people except that some people think she’s a “fake lesbian” which is just gatekeeping queerness. Or the way she refused to back Harris, which I did find extremely frustrating but also was a mentality I heard reflected in a ton of progressives I know personally. I’m not going to resent her forever for following a political trend that half of the progressives I know fell into. Was there something other than those two things that she did against the queer community? No one is asking you to like her, for the record, just to recognize that there is a reason women who don’t “play nice” always get ripped apart. See also: Sinead O’Connor, Courtney Love, etc

We seriously need to stop speculating, I have to repeat this until people learn: It’s because she left her manger who was all over the Epstein files.. He then hired PR firms to smear her.. This is well known inside the industry, people are just reactionary and believe every headline without realizing how entrenched and powerful corporate PR firms (billions of dollars industry) is.. This has everything to do the Epstein files.. Just take a look: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/feb/10/chappell-roan-drops-casey-wasserman-epstein-files-maxwell-emails People need to realize how huge this is..

BlueLikeCat Mar 28, 2026 +16
It’s an accusation used to offend the genuine hater versus the bot, but the trolls running the bots will also sub in on the accounts. If you’re offended, you’re letting the focus of your ire win.

I'm not "offended." I'm pissed off at this rich culture vulture turd from my home state with her shitty family and life of privilege going everywhere and acting the victim at every f****** turn. She loves to use trans people as props for her career and then our politics shifted and all of a sudden she changed her ways. Because this lady is a piece of shit. She proves it at every turn. Edit: Aww looks like some people don't like that people dislike this rich a****** from Missouri. Edit 2: And to the person who called me a "man" who is upset at this rich douchebag culture vulture - I'm a woman, so eat me.

23
zizyzizyziz Mar 28, 2026 +3
you haven't given a real reason to be this venomous and hateful. you have just stated she's privileged (something she was born into and cant change) and is an artist with a community behind her (as all stars do lol). just seems shallow take. does this amount of hatred come from an insecurity of some kind? honestly baffling haha
3
Alpaca_Stampede Mar 28, 2026 +4
She has publicly claimed in interviews to "know what it's like to be poor and live in a trailer park". In reality she was never a "starving artist" she comes from one of the richest families in Missouri and lived in her families 5br 5ba 6k sqft home. She cosplays as poor. She also claims to be a lesbian but it's come out that most of her songs were written about her ex boyfriend and the pronouns were switched so she would appeal to the LGBT community. She's an industry plant who's family sent her to Grammy camp for years. So be so f****** for real about defending this con artist.
4
CheapWeight8403 Mar 28, 2026 +2
>just stated she's privileged (something she was born into and cant change) It's not her fault she was born so privileged. It's her fault that she embodies that so fully as a person.
2
Hungry-Atmosphere22 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I love you. This is my exact take. I’m a woman too and I don’t like her at all. She will always get the side eye from me for her “both sides are bad” stance during the election.
1
SharMarali Mar 28, 2026 +7
It’s so weird that people are so mad that you dislike this specific celebrity. Like, people are behaving as if you kicked their puppy and all you did was say you dislike this person and gave your reasons. People are so bizarre with their insistence that everyone must think exactly the same way they do about everything. Social media is for sure a big part of it. But something else is going on with the way people attack each other and form “teams” over benign opinions. I’m not sure what it is. It feels sinister to me.

It seems to be the case. I think Chappell has her own little bot army. Their accounts don't make any sense.
7
Bikinigirlout Mar 28, 2026
Right? I like her music but as a person? If she keeps having outbursts in public, the antics won’t keep me around. And I hate how her fans constantly defend her and use actual problems like “There’s a war in Iran and you’re focusing on Chapell Roan” as a way to shrug it off. Because it feels like fake activism.
0
RogueTampon Mar 28, 2026 +16
You saying “she keeps having public outbursts” and “the antics” is weird when in this scenario, she literally was just existing. That’s coming from someone who is not a Chappell Roan fan.
16
BlueLikeCat Mar 28, 2026 +5
I got into this post because I love the song Pink Pony Club and I have been reminding people emotional baiting is the tactic of bot accounts. Now I know there is a GWAR cover and couldn't be happier about that.
5
Illustrious-Okra-524 Mar 28, 2026 +19
But she didn’t have an outburst in public that’s the point of this story
19
ZAWS20XX Mar 28, 2026 +1
don't really give a f*** about her one way or the other beyond "some of the songs she's made are kinda catchy", but “There’s a war in Iran and you’re focusing on Chapell Roan” sounds like a reasonable take. I'd even argue that you don't even need a war in Iran for that sentiment, if everything in the world and in your life was perfect I would say "there's a beautiful, sunny day outside, and your family and friends love you, *and you're focussing on Chappel Roan?*". Like, if you were a big fan, and you had the underdeveloped brain of a teenager, I would kinda understand dedicating some mental bandwidth to your favorite artist, but as a hater and a grown adult? that's just baffling. You dedicate your time and your energy on anything you want I guess, but you can't be mad if people think *that* is the weirdest shit.

It’s both. Online MAGA communities refer to Chappell haters as “useful idiots”. She’s an easy target for them to rile people up and drive distrust. It’s a very very successful tactic for them.

To be fair, Soccer/Football is huge globally, and the fans can be absolutely insane. So, the idea that there were genuinely a lot of fans bandwagoning the whole thing because a famous soccer player made the fiasco public isn't entirely out of the question.

Bot-driven? Or bot-powered?

Right but also she’s super unlikable.

She’s annoying and so are her fans. She has a few good songs but she ain’t changing the world. Fucks sake.

sketchampm Mar 28, 2026 +4
You can feel that way and it’s totally valid, but there have been multiple fake stories pushed about her. So if we don’t like her, it’s cool to just keep pushing and celebrating weird smear stories that aren’t true?

No f****** shit. Especially since there were multiple witnesses who said that the child repeatedly went to the table and the mother refused to help keep her away BEFORE the guard intervened.

I'm in my 50's and know next to nothing about her music and career. I have literally no feelings about anyone involved in this. But the security guy coming out and claiming not to work for her or the hotel is absolute bullshit. I've had work related security in foreign countries a number of times. No random security guy is breaking off from his job (with a protectant who has no part of this) to get involved with an 11-year-old walking past some star. He'd never work again. The security guy is lying to cover for her. I don't hate her. I'm no bot. I literally don't care. But I'll tell you there is ZERO chance that's the real story.

This is the same security guard Kim Kardashian had when she got robbed.

Pretty obvious he got a bag to take the heat.

That photo cracked me up for some reason. I think it’s because every photo I see of her is 😒😑 and this is 😳 by comparison.

a_happy_future Mar 28, 2026 +1
Well yea. Everything I saw from real people was pretty reasonable takes yet all I saw online is how everyone was trying to "cancel" her. It was extremely obvious something was fishy

Journalists sold out first and then the world collapsed

No shit. That’s the news nowadays. The “news” finds some angry nobodies on twitter with 42 combined followers and bam! You have your news cycle for the day.

THIS HAPPENS WITH LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT COULD DIVIDE AMERICANS. Sorry to shout, but it happens with everything that is a flash point in American culture. Bot driven discourse and propaganda are being driven by China, N. Korea, Russia and god knows who else. The point is to piss Americans at one another. A divided America is a weak America. A weak America allows more room for China, N. Korea and Russia on the world stage. It's that simple

Bot driven smear campaign? The article identified that less than 25 percent of post were from BOTs. That means that over 75 percent were by people. 75 percent is a pretty damn high number.

Rhino-Ham Mar 28, 2026 +13
People just regurgitate and believe what they read in bot posts. You don’t need more than 25% of posts to drive a narrative.

Illustrious-Okra-524 Mar 28, 2026 +12
25% bots is low to you?
12
Tibbaryllis2 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Honestly? Yes. Anything I see posted to multiple subs or posted multiple days, or anything involving anyone famous, I assume it’s about half bot driven. Especially if you don’t just limit it to comments and also include upvotes for engagement. Also, I didnt see in the article that they identified that all 25% of the bot activity was against her. Which I think people here are assuming.
2
Meat-Dimension Mar 28, 2026 +7
25% seems like a giant amount I assume it’s a case of bots just trying to farm engagement off whatever a current trending topic is.

Why do you feel the need to use misogynistic words?

I’m still going to sing Pink Pony Club at the top of my lungs. Just an added bonus that I find kids to be mostly annoying idiots seeking attention.

This is insane. I mean even worse case scenario is really not that bad given what is going on in this country.

Shoe_boooo Mar 28, 2026
23% were bots. 77% were real people.

HappiPipo Mar 28, 2026 -12
All the thousands of people who heard about a bodyguard bullying a little girl said, "that is quite alright". But the bots said "hell no!"
