Ironic that NPR (among others) have been defunded. Actually it's the opposite of ironic. It was to be expected and it's been on the Republican agenda for a while. Exactly. People have just gotten so used to the fact that votes have unequal weight that they barely even think of it as cheating any more. Republicans have fought tooth and nail to be able to control election outcomes, taking advantage of Democratic unwillingness to go nearly as far. And when for example California adopts mild redistricting with partisan effects, the Republicans melt down like it's the worst thing in the universe despite doing way worse as a matter of course.
America is pretty much stuck in a belief that rules and expectations and boundaries only apply to the Democrats.

Maybe I don’t fully understand your wonderful and modern election process, but why does voter suppression matter if the popular vote doesn’t count for shit?
Can they keep delegates out? And if they can…. How was that not thought of? And if it was, what the f***?
10
MommyLovesPot8toesMar 23, 2026
+13
Popular voting is still the main driver of election. And USUALLY the w***** of the election and the w***** of the popular vote are one and the same. The reason we say the popular vote doesn't matter is because the number of delegates isn't properly proportioned to population. One delegate with one vote sent from California represents 700k people. One delegate sent from Wyoming represents 195k people. So a Wyoming resident's vote has the same power as 3.5 California residents. (This is how Republicans have stayed in power despite being the less popular party - their voters are largely rural and get this overstated voting power where, basically, the cows are getting to vote.)
As for delegates, there is no one in federal govt who can "keep a delegate out" if that delegate was elected or appointed by a state.
The whole situation of the electoral college is further complicated by the allowance of "faithless delegates" who can deviate from the wishes of the people they represent. Most states have laws against this, but not all. This freedom exists as a backstop, in case something happens between the popular election and the certification of the votes 2 months later. It's been used almost exclusively because a candidate died. (I had to look this up but there has been ONE time in 1796 when a delegate voted for someone of the other party) These days, most states have laws that void "faithless votes" cast by a delegate.
13
CabSauceMar 23, 2026
+4
Votes still matter. Most states assign all of their electors based on who got more votes in the state. So if Democratic voters are disenfranchised disproportionately, it's possible that entire states' electors could vote the other way.
Each state has its own laws for exactly how electors are supposed to operate. In 2020, several states tried to claim that Trump had really won in their state (based on bogus claims of voter and election fraud) and attempted to send "alternative" sets of electors.
These were shut down by Congress and courts.

He didn't even need sulfuric acid, the Caribbean Sea has tons of sharks.
A quick bit of research tells me that the majority of those sharks (the Caribbean reef shark and hammerhead sharks being most abundant) could not be able to completely dispose of adult human remains, especially large bones like the femur, but they would have no issue with smaller human remains.
The only reason you would need sulfuric acid to dispose of bodies under those conditions would be to dissolve adult remains.
And it is impossible to justify six barrels of concentrated sulfuric acid being used on a private island for anything else.
I guarantee if a house I was renting had its bathtub destroyed by acid, there would be a murder investigation opened even without a body.
And this was long after breaking bad aired, popularizing further that method of corpse disposal.
The fact that there were no children or corpses at the island when the FBI raided it also tells me that their standard MO was to murder these children and dispose of the bodies.

Ok but there's what, one to two hundred airports at most in the USA that they'll have ICE at? There's tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of precincts they'd need to be at. It's an insane logistical miracle that would need to happen. There are just shy of 100 countries in Virginia, multiply by number of voting locations and you get big fast for just one state. Google is saying there are 22,000 ICE agents. I pulled up something like 50 polling locations in Arlington county alone. Plus, elections are handled at the state level all the way down the counties and cities.
We're a big ass country and you can't occupy us with 22k replacement tier cops.

Great. Depress turnout across the board in swing districts. Trump's not on the ballot. Gas hits $7 a gallon and so many Republicans aren't going to find a reason to go to the polls.
Pass the save act and make it hard for every conservative woman who took her husband's last name and you might as well call it the Elect Talarico Act.
Thinking it's possible to spread 22k agents across the entire US is like all the Germans who think they can just have a quick drive across death valley. It just cannot be done. We don't have to admit defeat. Like it's absolutely hysterical thinking that these clowns could pull off such a complex operation. They pretty much got their shit run out in Minnesota and that was a very concentrated effort. They simply do not have the capacity.
7

Even hearing news that ICE COULD be at the polls will make people think twice about going. If you are John Smith and the pastiest man alive you still might not want to go where Trump's personal masked militia is swinging their long guns around.
Passing the save act will energize some voters but the legislation itself will disenfranchise a lot of voters. I am not convinced these 2 are balanced.
22k agents is not enough to besiege the entire country. But it's more than enough to f*** with select polling places. Get into altercations with protesters there, arrest random people, heck somebody might end up dead.
How effective it will be is anyone's guess. What I can say is that it will DEFINITELY happen. Could lead to nothing. Could cause enough fuckery to swing some races. The Brooks Brothers Riots showed that it doesn't have to be a nationwide operation to be a big deal.

I would have thought that too, but I have been shocked at the resiliency and stubbornness of some of my countrymen so far this year, despite the fear this admin is trying to cause. ICE shows up in MSP and people show up on the streets to protest, Renee Good is killed, and instead of backing down in fear more show up and show out, the same after Alex Pretti's murder.
In my own small community, ICE came and made some arrests, and people showed up to protest, students from the local high school staged a walk out and a 2.5 mile protest march in response. I think sometimes, maybe, collectively we are at our best in the face of adversity. That may be wishful thinking or foolish optimism, but I think that beats accepting defeat 8 months in advance.

ICEs scope is going to expand. You don't fund that kind of money to police up immigration violations. Trump is going to say something dumb like "the 'E' in ICE is actually for "Election""
These are the brown/black shirts of our time.
Hope I'm wrong.

The scale of enrolment they'd need to meet to be able to feasibly occupy every single voting station with enough officers to be intimidating is itself not feasible.
This just isn't something they can do. At all.

Current number of ICE agents: about 22,000.
There are roughly 500 airports for commercial use. If ICE is at all of them, that's 44 at each.
There are roughly 100,000 polling stations. If ICE was allowed at polling stations (numerous states have laws prohibiting armed forces at polling stations), there'd be 1 agent for every 5 stations.
Yeah, closing almost all of the polling stations, I thought of that, too. That'd only make it worse for them. Setting aside the fact that they're not legally permitted to do it, if they *did*, they're still looking at several thousand people for every ICE agent. They'd be overwhelmed in the first 10 seconds of the stations opening.
They're not going to try to control voters by putting ICE at polling stations. It's logistically impossible. The *concern* is the goal. They want you to be afraid to go vote. They want you to not vote because you think your voice won't be heard. They're playing mind games. Don't fall for it. We have the power to end this, don't let them bullshit you into giving up that power. Go vote in the mid-terms.

They don't need to go to as many polling stations as you think.
Just the ones in contested states that are likely to vote Democrat, and then only in Democratic districts.
I would say that if they wanted to use all of ICE, border patrol, and the military, they could easily do it.
Maybe not for 2026, but certainly could be all planned for 2028.

Meanwhile on the left, we are still discussing if the Democrats deserve your votes or not. Sigh.
This is literally the last possible moment to save the country and the world some what (to actually give the world a chance, 2024 was the last moment). And yes I mean the world. As we are probably stumbling into ww3. You hold the power to save the world with your votes in the USA. The evil repubs are trying to take away voting powers from you forever. But people are still questioning if that is enough... F***ing Vote.

I’m just here to point out that ICE has something like 23,000 agents, and there’s 100,000 polling sites across the US. Even if they focused on only 1% of those polling sites and used every single agent, that’s only 20-25 agents per site, to handle thousands of people
Just some food for thought to remember that there’s a lot more regular folks than there are of them

They wouldn't be deployed to safe rural areas with a conservative majority. They would be deployed to urban areas where democrats would be voting.

They literally addressed this comment in their second sentence.
They could send every ICE agent to every urban, Democrat stronghold and it would be a drop in the bucket. ICE would be massively outnumbered in a situation where everyone hates their presence.
I have no doubt that it would convince some non-zero number of people to stay home and not vote, but it won't make a statistical difference and may just *drive* turnout higher as people say "no, f*** you."

ICE has no training, and no jurisdiction to act as airport security. There's literally no benefit or reason for them being there whether there's a TSA funding issue or not.
Thus the only logical conclusion is that they are there to cause problems and to normalize their omnipresence in society.
So they are definitely going to be there permanently.

I've been screaming this from the rooftops. They're trying to install "authoritarian-light" where there is voting, but it somehow comes out to be like 275,000,000 votes for the MAGA candidate and 20,000,000 for the other. The election will be so obviously fraudulent but incapable of being adequately challenged because so many people in power will be made so rich from it. It's so, so obvious. They love Orban. They love Putin. They love Un. This is what they're shooting for and are very close to getting it. ICE will be yanking random people out of lines at voting locations (those brave enough to show up) and even when those detainees are totally, 100% legal, the votes will have been counted two weeks ago. "Sorry, go about your life now, sorry about the not voting thing."
They are locked in, and it will 100% happen.

The deployment to the airports was a massive f*** up if we use the opportunity: those agents "working TSA" are unmasked. We need to photograph them all and build a database to ID and ultimately do them all -- as well as find and of them who committed rights violations in masks. This our best, maybe only, opportunity to ID these brown shirt thugs. Let's not waste it.
If you are in an airport with ICE, photograph them all.

First off, it's just flat out illegal to do this. ICE has no jurisdiction or authority over state level elections, nor does the federal government.
Moreover, they don't even have enough ICE for it. They have 22k officers, and that's nowhere close to enough for this plan of theirs. That's not enough even to just have ONE officer at every voting station.
No matter how you slice it, this just flat out isn't something they can do. They're just trying to scare us into staying home, but it won't work.
7
OccidoViperMar 23, 2026
+6
Yea it is illegal but I don’t think the plan would be to put ICE in all the voting stations. They will put them in areas where it can go either Democrat or Republican. They are betting that ICE agents in those areas can swing it toward the GOP by shaving off a couple of %. Hopefully, Democratic voters don’t feel intimidated and show up to the polls regardless if ICE is there or not

Another point I don’t see people making with ICE presence at airports and polls is I think MAGA is weaponizing our hatred of ICE to their benefit.
At an airport, if we act “disorderly” due to ICE presence, I bet they’re going to try and get lefties on the no fly list as a punishment.
At the polls, if we act “disorderly”, BAM. Arrest with phony charge and no voting for you.

I feel like this is just fear mongering. Legally, the states are responsible for election secure and there would be zero justification for federal government to claim jurisdiction. It also falls outside the scope of DHS. I'm sure they would love to do it, but the federal courts would slap this down so fast. I doubt even SCOTUS would entertain the idea since the constitution makes it crystal clear.
