They need a sequel about covid. Make it a saving private Ryan parody where Jones is drafted and has to find the anti-bodies behind infected lines.

is there a death epidemic going on or what?? Take a day off death.

Andy Warhol once said that everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.
With the rise of pop culture in the 60s, cable TV in the 80s, and the internet in the 2000s, the number of "famous" people exploded. Eventually those famous people die. Now, a day doesnt go by without someone who has influenced pop culture dying. It really just comes down to how slow of a news day will it be in general that news of that person's death makes it to the front page? Yesterday, the man who invented the website banner ad died, and you probably didn't notice

> Yesterday, the man who invented the website banner ad died
There is actually a ton of [mildly] interesting history on this, flash and people figuring out using flash for animation beyond websites that connects to Ren & Stempy

It's not really an epidemic, just a natural consequence of time.
For example Chuck Norris was Walker Texas Ranger 30 years ago.
The man was in his 50s still doing his own stunts in the 90s.
People are seeing these famous people die because these people are dying of old age and complications from old age.
edit: With an addendum that I actually don't know Chuck Norris's listed cause of death, but I'm sure he's getting a rematch with Bruce Lee.
It's not always natural causes, but you'll probably see celebrities kick the bucket 20-50 years down the line because they were getting older, even with advances in medical tech.
Also some of the famous people probably had access to drugs, that complicates things a bit because we may not see the long term results of something like the nose candy until decades later.
edit2: Also smoking and alcohol have been done heavily for decades, there's probably some lung damage and heart damage in some celebs.

The medium of television really exploded after WWII so there were obviously a ton of boomers who were really the first crop of "television famous" and they are now at the age where it's not uncommon for them to die. 20 years ago there weren't as many "celebrity deaths" because 60+ years ago there weren't that many celebrities relatively speaking.

Sure.
My main hunch though (which follows what other people have said in the thread) is that celebrity deaths are generational.
All these "Celebrities" are dying because they were relevent when listnookors were teens or kids, and now it's 1, 2, 3 decades later. There's a new batch of relevent celebrities and those celebrities probably won't kick the bucket for another 20-40 years, and when they do it'll probably feel like a really small timeframe but in reality they all just got old.
I mean it's only especially painful when it's a younger actor like a Paul Walker (setting aside the fact that he was dating a literal teenager for a while) or Chris Farley.

What do you mean? Generations tend to die in waves. Celebrities are no different in this respect.

People in their 40s-90s are dropping like flies that's not a single generation.

Famous people in their 40s-90s have always died earlier than we would like. People do not uniformly live to 100 and then die.

We live in the unhealthiest time to be American in over a century. Life expectancy is dropping.
I’m 38 and like almost 10% of my high school class is already dead. Many just dropped dead for no real reason.
