Mini-series being missing always felt like starting a book at chapter 3. Now I can finally recommend BSG without a 5-minute “watch order” explanation. Maybe time for a full rewatch.

Couldn't agree more. I wanted to watch the show semi recently for the first time, so I started at episode 1, like you do, with shows. And I thought oh ok, it's some in medias res storytelling, sure. But then going back to the miniseries after finding out how important it was completely changed the tone for the entire show. It's not just a dire situation, it's 9/11 era space post apocalypse.

Yup! I forgot season 1, episode 1 isn’t the beginning. I bought the show on sale a couple months ago for like 5 a season. I started that first show and I was like.. ohhhh…
Guess how much the “pilot” episode cost? 15 bucks.
Assholes… the pilot should be included with season 1.
I read the pilot on Wikipedia. I’ll never purchase the pilot for 15.

I grew up on the original. But I was busy with young kids and career when the sequel series came out. I have never watched a minute of a single episode. Been saving it, I guess. So with that said - it may or may not be relevant that I devoured the original series(es) and film - can you share a watch order with me? Or does it work to just do it straight through? I have paramount+. Not exactly proud of that but I can't let go of the Star Trek shows and movies.

Watch the mini series first—when compiled it's essentially a movie. For some reason, Sci-Fi channel decided to cut it into dozens of 5 minute "episodes" and release it that way. After the mini series watch seasons 1-4. You'll see a familiar face from the original series on the episode about the prison ship. Save yourself a treat and don’t spoil it for yourself, I never watched the original series and found out almost decades later the actor stared in the original series.
There's a movie "The Plan" to watch after the series, as well as "Razor" which I think you can watch after season 2 but I'm not sure on that one. There's other media like Blood and Chrome but I can't attest to their quality.

Got it.
But this reminds that there was a sequel to the (original) TV show where the Galactica comes to earth in 1980. It was great for a kid but I don't think critics liked it very much.

That said, 33 might be the best non pilot S01E01 going, catches you up quickly and drops you into non stop drama. You feel the tension and how high the stakes are. Perfect.

Crunchyroll is growing less and less niche as anime popularity grows.
Here in Canada, there's some US services we don't get, so we have alternative services or bundled. Hulu is not available in Canada, but we get Hulu shows through Disney+. We also don't have HBO Max, but we have an alternative service called Crave that is owned by a Canadian Corp that has partnered with HBO to streak their library.

Unpopular opinion apparently but Ive always loved the ending. There are heavy religious themes throughout the whole show, its odd that people would have a problem with such a finale that has heavy religious themes

11
BlinkyMJF20 hr ago

I very much didn't like the religous stuff getting stronger towards the end. But I recognize it's not often an audience that's addressed in scifi settings heavily, so I'm glad for those who wanted it to go that way. For me it was the firends and enemies we made on the way, very strong cast.
7

Didn't mind it personally. I think there are just so many ways it could have ended and the ending we got may not have been the absolute best, but it was fitting.

I’m in the same boat .
It does feel rushed but the actual ending IMHO is consistent with the entire show .
7
ReasonablyBadass17 hr ago

I would say, it doesn't have religious themes, it uses GOD as a literal Deus Ex Machina to explain the disintegrating plot. If your show needs "uh...god did it" then your writers screwed up somewhere.
3
Ridiculousnessmess20 hr ago
+2
I have no problem with the ambiguities of the final episode. Some people have to have everything explained in pedantic detail, though.
2
ITworksGuys20 hr ago
+2
I have tried to explain this to people multiple times.
The wholes show is religious, there are miracles and prophecies.
The weird hate boner some sci-fi fans have for anything religious kinda creeps me out.
I thought it was super interesting because I hadn't seen it before but from the reactions I see online are some "they didn't know what they were doing" takes.
If you paid even a bit of attention, it's there the whole time.
2
nymesis_v15 hr ago
-1
Hate to overgeneralize, but there's definitely a crayon-eating kind of sci-fi fans who don't actually read any sci-fi novels and are there just for "space ships and robots".
Anyone who's ever enjoyed a good sci-fi novel would feel at home in BSG asking themselves who or what God is and what influence they have on people.
Found myself asking the same questions in God Emperor of Dune as with the Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch and many other legendary novels which the crayon-eating fans have no idea about because they just watch movies.
But yeah if you're like "hurr durr lightsabers & science rule" the BSG ending is going to suck hard.
