'Be serious... don't speak every day': Macron criticises Trump approach to Iran war
The comments were an apparent jab at the US leader's sometimes contradictory stance on the US-Israeli war against Iran.

Remember that time he went 2 days without a tweet and everyone thought he was dead?

MLJ9999 Apr 2, 2026 +1848
I came close to wasting a bottle of champagne.
1848
Tampert Apr 2, 2026 +453
if a bottle of champagne is consumed, is it ever really wasted though?
453
Mysterious_Camel_717 Apr 2, 2026 +200
By definition is it not no. But it tastes better when f it’s for a celebration
200
backflash Apr 2, 2026 +136
Two days of silence is, in itself, worth a small celebration, though. I'd take whatever I can get these days.
136
KirkDeepthroatGOAT Apr 2, 2026 +71
I remember foolishly thinking when Biden won that maybe we'd at least get a little bit of a break from this f****** moron but no, it's been over ten years nonstop from this pathetic loser.
71
BitRunner64 Apr 2, 2026 +83
He was easier to ignore when he wasn't the president. Here in Europe nobody really talked about him during those years because we didn't think they'd be stupid enough to elect him again.
83
puterTDI Apr 2, 2026 +15
honestly, in the US he was way easier to ignore. Less reporting on him, the shit that spewed out of his mouth actually couldn't be enforced, and I didn't feel like I was failing at my civic duty when I ignored him.
15
Automatic_Actuator_0 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Yeah, he was background noise. Now he’s actually getting a lot of people killed. harder to ignore.
8
fleebleganger Apr 2, 2026 +6
I thought there was gonna be a deal for him to quietly go away and we’d simply never bother him again.
6
Talmaska Apr 2, 2026 +13
You know when you open a bottle it starts to go bad. You have to drink it right away.
13
Tampert Apr 2, 2026 +18
same with vodka
18
Talmaska Apr 2, 2026 +3
I heard that!
3
Zarniwoopx Apr 2, 2026 +4
It's about pairing the right beverage with the occasion. Champagne for celebration, and in this case store-brand vodka in a plastic container.
4
crackrabbit012 Apr 2, 2026 +270
Crazy how it only takes a day or two of silence to think he died. Can we please go back to boring politics in the near future?
270
RhetoricalOrator Apr 2, 2026 +192
That was, in my opinion, the best thing about Biden. He was as boring as a room temperature ham sandwich.
192
crackrabbit012 Apr 2, 2026 +183
He was quietly doing the job he was elected to do, rather than find something EVERY DAY to make it about himself.
183
project23 Apr 2, 2026 +65
Remember when the choice was 'boring policy wonk' and 'guy I'd have a beer with'? Yah, that awful choice got us into a 20 year war in Afghanistan. (the public chose beer guy) To think the US Government had a budget SURPLUS at the time... Geez, what could have been.
65
NYC_Noguestlist Apr 2, 2026 +12
The funny thing is, I wouldn't even want to have a beer with Trump. Genuinely cannot see the appeal - it boggles my mind daily.
12
Guy_GuyGuy Apr 2, 2026 +13
By all accounts, he doesn't even drink and never did. He drinks Diet Coke in quantities that his doctors have repeatedly told him he needs to dial back on. By all accounts he's also absolutely miserable to be around unless you want something from him and are willing to blow sunshine up his ass.
13
brokenringlands Apr 2, 2026 +11
>Remember when the choice was 'boring policy wonk' and 'guy I'd have a beer with'? And then Dubya was a recovering alcoholic, living sober. So it would be cruel to have him drink anyway! When I found that out, my view of the situation changed. What sadistic person would want their political hero to relapse?!
11
LordBiscuits Apr 2, 2026 +22
Remember the good old days when Dubya was the peak of stupidity? Looking back now in comparison with the modern crop, he was a verifiable genius
22
Comedynerd Apr 2, 2026 +10
I really didnt like Biden's approach to foreign policy, but God I miss not having a new domestic or geopolitical crisis every 12h
10
vba7 Apr 2, 2026 +3
He did the right thing - focused on impact, not posting on twitter
3
FemHawkeSlay Apr 2, 2026 +3
I don't think we can afford to go back. Biden didn't have the energy to communicate his will or his wins, hopefully the next president can take some notes from Mamdani about communicating. If you say you want to go back to boring politics you're going to perk the ears of consultants and centrist establishment dems...well look at Schumer. He seems pretty fine about the Iran war tbh.
3
Trustable_lad Apr 2, 2026 +73
He is such an attention w**** that he HAD to do that lamest press release because the whole world was focused on Artemis launch and not him.
73
rafaelloaa Apr 2, 2026 +21
And of course the kicker is, he could totally have been taking credit for it, USA number one blah blah blah. But the simple fact that it was not his name in the headline meant that he was upset.
21
FrostyD7 Apr 2, 2026 +14
It's also NASA. A bunch of lib science bitches to him and his base. They would prefer Musk replace it with SpaceX at this point.
14
rafaelloaa Apr 2, 2026 +11
Also the fact that the astronauts include a black man, a woman, and a Canadian. Gasp.
11
given2fly_ Apr 2, 2026 +6
It's also using a Service Module built by the European Space Agency and Airbus.
6
Johannes_P Apr 2, 2026 +3
Trump knows well that the Artemis II astronauts are better than him and that future human societies will better remember them than him.

Remember when he was banned from Twitter, wasn't President, so we had a nice chunk of time without him? *Pepperidge Farm intensifies*
63
CAD_Chaos Apr 2, 2026 +9
Except that the press had to keep that blasted sound bite machine alive. They wouldn't let well enough alone. We kept having to hear what his ass thought about *everything*.

Is it the thing with the US Presidents in general or only Trump's? Maybe it didn't reach me previously, but I swear, he just rants on camera for no reason at all.
33
Bagz402 Apr 2, 2026 +71
Yes, every single press conference, media event, special announcement, etc he has ever made has always been just 2 hours of him ranting. Other president would usually lay out actual info, and wouldnt have to add how tremendous it is, how nobody's ever heard of it, how powerful it is, or how mean or sub-human the opposition party was
71
quats555 Apr 2, 2026 +44
He’s a narcissist, not a statesman.
44
Cactusfan86 Apr 2, 2026 +18
Only Trump, for past presidents giving a speech or press conference or interview was a big deal as they would only do it when there was something important to say or share.
18
badnuub Apr 2, 2026 +13
Trump is uniquely disastrous. W was kind of unique at the time for his occasional blunder on camera saying some kind of low key dumb shit. Trump cranked it up to a solid 15/10. Obama on the other hand was by and far one of the best public speakers of our time. His campaign speeches were electrifying.
13
Waterwoogem Apr 2, 2026 +23
All other recent Presidents have been coherent and 0% narcissistic, its only Trump
23
helm Apr 2, 2026 +33
Yeah, even Bush Jr, who certainly did not have an issue with lying at times or being self-righteous, did not make everything about him and had to be in everyone's face once a day.
33
onarainyafternoon Apr 2, 2026 +3
Because they respected the sanctity of the office's awe-some power. Trump couldn't give two fucks about the sanctity or respect for America and its institutions.
3
Bagz402 Apr 2, 2026 +27
That one year after he lost the 2020 election and before he started ramping up for 2024 was bliss. Outside of that it's been a decade of nonstop rants and whine fests from this dude. He's just soooo f****** *whiny*
27
Guy_GuyGuy Apr 2, 2026 +5
January 2021 to the start of 2023 or so. He was basically a persona non grata. He was banned from Twitter, Parler was banned from multiple app stores and web service providers, Truth Social was a fledgling pit of ignored lunacy. The news almost didn't cover Trump's bullshit at all. It was mid-2023 that he started getting spotlight again. Around that time Elon Musk bought Twitter and unbanned him, and mainstream news gradually started giving him spotlight and sanewashing him again. Everyone with the power to stop him had the ability to do so, and did, until they chose not to.

I'm glad Trump is finally getting told to shut up by other world leaders instead of the constant tiptoeing around his feelings like they have done for the last couple years. Hopefully more of this from everyone else. It makes no difference if you appease him, he'll just forget a few days later anyway.

> "This is not a show. We are talking about war and peace and the lives of men and women," the French president told journalists upon arrival in South Korea for a state visit. This is what Trump doesn't get or doesn't care about. He thinks his presidency is just another season of The Apprentice and he needs to constantly get attention and boost ratings. Why this is acceptable to Americans as leadership is mind boggling.

30
ReverendDizzle Apr 2, 2026 +19
If he were actually to be quiet and attempt to do his job as President of the United States for even 48 hours, he would have a mental breakdown. He's completely incompetent and completely over his head. He has less grasp over the gravity and importance of the position than a moderately intelligent high schooler. His life is like some sort of tragic Twilight Zone episode where he can only exist if he is creating a spectacle. He is a man of absolutely no substance or value, so only in constantly spewing out things to enrage the world and entertain the small cult that worships him can he continue to exist without collapsing in on himself.
19
gidimeister Apr 2, 2026 +13
After reading this, I realise that we are not getting rid of Trump even after his presidency. He'll not have the power to do any more harm, and that is a fantastic boon to every living soul on earth, but he will keep on this show until he loses his ability to speak. I can just see a dotty geriatric going on about how he "ended 8 wars" and was "denied a Nobel."

This is a watershed moment in the history of the American Empire. The moment when ex-allies openly call you out for the chaos you are causing. It's now riskier to say nothing, you have to speak out - confidence is that low. In just over a year, Trump has completely destroyed America's global standing. Did you know, when he was a kid, Jared Kushner and family used to have Bibi Netanyahu stay with them in their home when he visited America. Now's Jared is the channel for Saudi investments to Israel. Mafia stuff....

Macron is spot-on. Trump and his supporters are not serious people. Everything is for entertainment or personal gain. *The Iran war requires a "serious" approach that does not change every day, Emmanuel Macron has said, in an apparent reference to US President Donald Trump's seemingly contradictory remarks about the conflict. "This is not a show. We are talking about war and peace and the lives of men and women," the French president told journalists upon arrival in South Korea for a state visit. "When you want to be serious you don't say every day the opposite of what you said the day before," Macron added. "And maybe you shouldn't be speaking every day. You should just let things quieten down." Macron was answering questions on the US-Israel war in Iran, which has now entered its second month. France and other European countries have supported some of the US operations in the region, but have so far resisted getting dragged into the war.*

But he has the best words. Some are saying they are the most beautiful words they've ever heard. My uncle was good at words. He was an engineer, you know. He told me I had the mind of. And he would teach me things nobody else knows. My teachers were amazed at my words. Some they never even knew existed.

Nobody in this Administration is serious. Nobody. It's embarrassing and shines a spotlight on the serious lack of judgement on the part of voters.

I look forward to the day when he doesn't speak at all forever.

Ok-Abbreviations543 Apr 3, 2026 +6
Just fyi: 1. Trump is a professional clown. He is incapable of being serious. 2. Trump is a syphilitic, narcissistic, megalomaniac. He can’t shut up.

From this day forward, they will be called Freedom Fries and nothing else. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION!

Sorkel3 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Good advice but Trump won't hear it, he's too busy speaking.

France is America's oldest Ally. You know you should consider things when they tell you they're tired of your shit.

Ooooooh this is going to piss him off real bad. I bet he again threatens to leave NATO citing Macron as the new reason.
4
valthor95 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Finally glad someone told him to shut up !

OctoMatter Apr 2, 2026 +4
He said what everyone was thinking and did so even without any threats or personal attacks.

Hey I’m British. That was beautiful and so classy from Macron. God bless you and your wife sir! 🇫🇷🇬🇧. He will be full narcissistic rage over this and shit orange goo in his nappy. Little baby.

It's crazy. All they were talking about was Biden having dementia. The government was running fine, so that's all they could really come up with because he was aging quickly and his public speaking ability, was taking a big hit. He had a few bad gaffs but overall his mind seemed sound and more of all, he stuck to his principles as much as most politicians will, and things were ss normal as they could be in a broken political system like the US has had for a few decades now. But Trump it's just this huge whirlwind of so much bullshit. Nobody can even focus on one thing. His criminality, his pedophilia, his war crimes, is mafioso style of dealing with everybody, the fact that he's a traitor with Russia, his clearly declining mental ability. The GOP in Congress right now failed to go their job and restrict the executive branch like it's supposed to. Outside of is blatantly criminal behavior, it's understandable that a president that wants to try to do everything he possibly can to influence politics. That's how it's supposed to work when all the other branches are doing the same thing. Use people's hunger for power to fuel the systems operation. But the GOP is just letting him go unchecked... Yeah, he intimidates them and there are death threats. But if they all banded together, even 20-30 of them, they would have strength in the numbers. Failures. Scum.

I saw a sign about Biden that said: They called him “Sleepy Joe” because we could sleep at night.

Good luck convincing an insane narcissist not to speak every day.

ehowardhunt Apr 2, 2026 +8
I would love to see all of our allies talk shit to him. I know that to get what you want from him requires flattery and bribery. But at this point, they should all take the opposite approach. It will trigger Trump. And unfortunately, Trump needs to go even more berserk before people will turn on him here. If even then. I hate to say it, but I don’t think we can wait for elections. I think shit needs to hit the fan and get catastrophic for anything to change.

boersc Apr 2, 2026 +3
I got the impression he speaks at least every ten minutes or so, totally contradicting himself every time.
3
Top-Reindeer-2293 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Those are not serious people. I am constantly reminded of that line in ´Succession’ TV show when the father tells his sons and daughter that they are not serious people. This totally applies to Trump and his sidekicks
3
Puzzleheaded-Leg2647 Apr 2, 2026 +3
This not a serious administration. It's a clown show with calliope music.

The constant stream of bullshit is to keep citizens anxious and slowly normalize the insanity. If he stopped turning up the heat at all, people might notice when it goes from tepid to boiling a little more. We could try to ignore him and take that power away from him but we'd have to do it as a collective. And as you all know we've been trained to dislike and distrust our fellow Americans so this works even while we know we're being played.

Rough_Championship_3 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Careful now RFK might cancel French fries

Macon is asking the impossible, but I'm sure he already knows that.

Republicans really called everyone a pedophile and then voted in the king of pedophiles. Now we're going to war and bombing children just to distract from it. Hard to be a shittier or more hypocritical American than a Republican these days.
3
hanrahs Apr 2, 2026 +3
What better way to try and show you don't "love" children by killing them instead...

It’s embarrassing that the French president has to tell the American president how to act. We will never forgive this disgraceful loser and his idiot voters.

That-Makes-Sense Apr 3, 2026 +1
Trump lives for the cameras. I came to that realization after watching one of Trump's first covid press conferences. He loved just being on camera. He was clearly out of his element talking about anything health related, but he would go on and on, just making shit up, because he just relishes having cameras pointed at him.

looks like someone finally got brave to talk back at Trump in personal level in Europe ...

Thurak0 Apr 2, 2026 +22
Well. I am sorry to tell you that nearly 80 year old people in general do not learn any more or take a scolding from other people. And in this particular case I guess he was that way even way before this old age. It will achieve nothing with Trump, but it's good to hear someone say it out loud and therefore marking it as highly unusual.
22
saulsa_ Apr 2, 2026 +9
>It will achieve nothing with Trump, but it's good to hear someone say it out loud and therefore marking it as highly unusual. I know you’re right, and any response or interaction just feeds his ego, even negative. There is one thing that is not in short supply at the White House and that’s excuses and insults. It’s good to hear push back, and seeing other countries come together. Macron’s response is for the benefit of the sane people in the world.

FigureMost1687 Apr 2, 2026 +6
this should have been Starmer , the amount insult Brits took from Trump is tremendous in last 30 days
6
CowDontMeow Apr 2, 2026 +7
As much as I don’t like Starmer I’d rather he kept quiet to keep some illusion of having ties with the US so they don’t absolutely f*** us with tariffs and/or other trade issues, I’m also a big fan of our leaders not getting into arguments online, Trump is a narcissist and isn’t going to change, I’ve met people like that through work and it’s best to just not engage with their bullshit.

Unfortunately, these snipes at Trump is mostly for Macron himself. To improve his image.

evatornado Apr 2, 2026 +10
Diplomacy isn't about cowardice or bravery, but certainty and uncertainty. They are in control of what and when they say and if they say something that means they are aware of possible meltdowns, but they don't think the outcome will affect the current state of affairs
