Beck Bennett is so underrated as an all time SNL guy

the way Beck says "well it wasn't me, I use the bathroom all the way down the hall" was like a dead giveaway that Tim Robinson wrote this one

So true! Beck is awesome!

One of my favorite sketches. The increasingly unrelated b-roll is great. "Beer is all I need."

Beck and Kyle did a handful more of them in this style, they keep the b-roll bit going as well

If you were really a friend, you would've posted links (cut to WW2 footage)

Ccaves0127 Mar 28, 2026 +3
There's one with Ryan Gosling called Cool, there's one with Chris Pratt, there's one with that British lady who I've never seen in anything but I'm sure is famous. Also look at their "The House" reality show parodies

"Cousin CJ can I ask you a question?" "Of course, I am your cousin CJ after all" gets me every time

I quote this all the time. “What was I supposed to do again? Oh that’s right, have a blast!”

Justice4Pinsir Mar 27, 2026 +67
"one for you, five for me!" "Let me guess, snack time for mario?" "I can't believe you'd ask me that...of course I will." "It's a very exciting time for cousin CJ, he just got to town."

I grew up with Beck Bennett and this sketch is my favorite thing he was ever a part of.

Hard disagree. This doesn't come close to [Outrageous Fun](https://youtu.be/21ImmTL05SM?si=ie-DR7Lf4z74jtUM), [My Mom's a M***](https://youtu.be/OdXry79EifM?si=YJKzAq6wyLX3mqyR), or even the [Baby Boss](https://youtu.be/OMJ-39TwHVE?si=MqX-FtftoUZPwz-X).

iveo83 Mar 27, 2026 +18
lol that baby boss skit is great, never saw that before. I love these ones too [Drinking Game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo2LL_of9So&t=1s) , [Toast](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaYtFLGELB8) and I have to mention [Sporty by Kyle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdwchohlMjI) 🤣

It's because Larry David is in it. I love Beck, but Larry is the GOAT.

kevlarbaboon Mar 27, 2026 +2
harder disagree, that M*** sketch is one of my least fav Good Neighbor sketches (but it's still great!). Still ain't got nothing on Beer or my favorite sketch of all time: First Impressions https://youtu.be/tDUv59Yu04Y?si=9YyxU_riaWmY4W2l Yes, very handsome.

Like, you grew up watching him on SNL? Or you grew up in the same town and went to the same school as him?
4
ye_olde_green_eyes Mar 27, 2026 +33
Same k-12 schools. Stand-up dude. He moved into the theater crowd in high school, but we went to each other's birthday parties as kids.
33
skag_boy87 Mar 27, 2026 +3
Oh that’s awesome!
3
froops Mar 27, 2026 +2
Do you listen to his podcast with Kyle? It brings me joy

New Trier! My college roommate went there and knew Beck as well. Said he was pretty nice and obviously very funny. Ya might even know him too (last name Roberts)
1
Dovis_Dough Mar 28, 2026 +3
Did you watch his Venice beach street commentary back in the day?
3
Alternative_Gas9010 Mar 27, 2026
I agree. I grew up watching this sketch, and Beck Bennett is my favorite?

Larry David effortlessly throwing the chairs lmao I love the Kyle and Beck bad acting skits.

travio Mar 27, 2026 +37
I love the cheesy sitcom style. Cousin CJ is kind of like [Uncle Ned](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlLvS1vH9Tk) from Family Ties. Thankfully, Tom Hanks didn't stab Michael J. Fox.
37
LurkinsteinMonster Mar 27, 2026 +8
But didn't Uncle Ned toss Alex across the room after he tried to burn the newspaper clippings about himself that Alex had been keeping in his wallet for some reason?
8
hiro111 Mar 27, 2026 +35
If you haven't seen many late 80s - early 90s sitcoms with "very special episodes", you may struggle to understand what they're going for here...
35
asdf0909 Mar 27, 2026 +9
This is so opposite of what Larry does, it's funny in the weirdest way to me, watching Larry try to tone down his instinctive reactions to be under-acted for laughs. It's funny watching him be bad at being a bad actor

FoolOnDaHill365 Mar 27, 2026 +13
I miss this type of SNL comedy.
13
Hobear Mar 27, 2026 +2
Feels like it could be part of too many cooks.

Couldn’t get through it. I guess it’s humor I don’t get.
2
Snarling-Gnarf Mar 28, 2026 +2
I loved this era of SNL so much. It kinda changed my sense of humor, now I watch ITYSL to put me back in that happy place.

I’m hoping I’m too young to get this
4
worksnake Mar 27, 2026 +2
Well, it could very well be that. It could also be that you don't like the sort of zany absurdism that the skit really leans into. Or a little Column A, little Column B.
2
Ccaves0127 Mar 28, 2026 +1
It's a parody of 80s/90s sitcom tropes, specifically a Family Ties episode where Tom Hanks plays an alcoholic uncle. But if you've seen any sitcom that aired from 1985-1995 you probably recognize most of the tropes. The joke is that they're mostly not even exaggerating for like 90% of this video, and the music, editing, acting, and production design are spot on.

Beck Bennett is an all timer. Dude was hilarious

Not as good as "Wings" but still pretty funny.

Tayoo-huwat Mar 27, 2026 +1
Man it’s funny, but also just a blatant lift off of Beef House

this was not funny. at all.
-1
weirdeyedkid Mar 27, 2026 -3
Yeah. I can understand what they're going for and why they are presenting every line ironically. It doesn't make it less lazy or played out.
-3
Dhh05594 Mar 27, 2026 -26
I struggled to get through this. It must not be my type of humor.
-26
LifeOfHi Mar 27, 2026 -6
Even if this was a YouTube skit it would still be very disappointing, let alone a team of writers. The satire doesn’t work. No jokes, no punchlines, just shrugs from the performers that ironically fit the feeling of this skit. 3min 40 seconds and the only humor was the randomness of including a clip of a dinosaur.
-6
worksnake Mar 27, 2026 +3
Could you at least entertain the idea that you didn't get the joke? I think there's a fine line between "this doesn't work" and "I didn't get it".
3
cjohn90631 Mar 28, 2026
I actually don’t get it and thought it was painful to watch. Could you explain the joke?
0
Ccaves0127 Mar 28, 2026 +1

What is funny about this exactly?
-42
Vulgarly_dressed Mar 27, 2026 +18
The stabbing
18
Soup-a-doopah Mar 27, 2026 +12
They’re spoofing tv sitcoms of the 60s-70s. If you didn’t watch it, then the joke isn’t gonna land properly for ya.
12
SonovaVondruke Mar 27, 2026 +43
Closer to 80s-90s TGIF style sitcoms.

This is very much a take on the Full House/Step By Step/Boy Meets World era of sitcoms. I'm not sure they could be any more on-the-nose about it.
8
Ccaves0127 Mar 28, 2026 +1
It's almost literally a specific episode of Family Ties where Tom Hanks plays Larry David's role here
1
superhappy Mar 27, 2026 +2
Like I was there it still just kind of doesn’t land. I’ve seen a lot of Kyle Mooney sketches and it should totally be what I’m into (meta subversion) but it always feels a little bit too by-the-numbers with no real actual punchlines. With this one I get the b roll being wacky is funny (really the only decent part) but then the rest of it is just a monotone one note spoof. It’s just not… funny? Like maybe it would have been funny 20 years ago when we hadn’t already spoofed these things to death? To me, this aspires towards _Too Many Cooks_ meta absurdity but just kind of misses the mark completely.
2
worksnake Mar 27, 2026 +3
I did like the sketch, but I appreciate your explanation of why you didn't find it funny.
3
Dio-genies Mar 27, 2026 -15
I watched them its just... not good

Shit, now i regret laughing. If only id known it wasn't good!

If you don't think it's funny for sitcom characters to "talk in private" by taking one step away I don't know what to tell ya.
