The song (and soundtrack in general) is fire though. That house was also my dream growing up. Loved the shots at the beach and on the pier.

My sister would watch the DVDs of the show every summer. I heard that damn song too much. Now she lives in California.

How crypto can be/is being used by oligarchs across the world to sidestep regulation and keep transactions from being tracked on ledgers. Just fascinating overall.

How is this not common knowledge by now? The #1 use for bitcoin not that long ago was to buy drugs and #2 is evading capital controls.
12
rodmandirect Apr 17, 2026
Bitcoin is the only money in history that no one can stop you from using. Every other type of money can be shut down by someone more powerful than you. Not really necessary for people who are financially privileged like me and maybe you. But for people living under capital controls, or collapsing currencies, or governments that treat financial access as a controlling tool, Bitcoin represents economic freedom.

Ehhh.....let's be a little honest here. Is my local grocery store going to accept my Bitcoin when I want to buy bread? No. It's effectively an investment asset, not money. Sure some places might take actual Bitcoin in exchange for services but it's still an investment asset. I think the point is that when Bitcoin first showed up, it's only utilitarian use was for buying drugs and illicit p********** of the illegal kind. It grew, people figured out that they could use it as an investment tool. Now the billionaire class is getting into it for laundering money. We've come full circle again to using it for illicit activity.

rodmandirect Apr 17, 2026 -2
Your local grocery store doesn't accept yen either. That doesn't make yen not be money. Practically speaking, a company called Square that does credit card payment boxes you see in American stores currently facilitates [millions of merchants](https://www.coindesk.com/business/2026/03/30/jack-dorsey-s-square-auto-enables-bitcoin-payments-for-millions-of-u-s-businesses) to accept Bitcoin, exchange it for dollars instantly and seamlessly. Also, you can check btcmap.org that tracks more thousands of merchats that accept it directly. As to it being an "investment asset," that's because of its volatility. The volatility is decreasing as adoption continues to grow. And if you step back and look at the trends, you can see that the value is going up and down a lot but up over time, eighteen years now. Maybe gold is just an "investment asset" too. Does that mean it has no real value? The argument that it was only good for buying drugs and p*** was bogus back then, and bogus now. The dollar has been and is the world's #1 currency for drugs, evading sanctions, and laundering. As for now, Bitcoin is a TERRIBLE tool for serious laundering billionaire criminals, because every transaction is permanently public and traceable, UNLIKE the precious dollar. If I'm not being honest about anything, please let me know.

DirtyBurgerCommander Apr 17, 2026 +6
What I meant about being honest was, Bitcoin isn't money. It's a medium that at the end of the day is exchanged for commonly accepted currency like other assets or commodities. Yes, Square may give merchants the ability to accept Bitcoin as payment but at the end of the day, it's always exchanged for the current rate of currency. By that nature, it makes Bitcoin an asset or commodity. It's not money. It does have value but that value is represented in the currency we have all widely accepted to exchange for goods and services.
6
rodmandirect Apr 17, 2026 -1
Bitcoin does everything money is supposed to do. It stores value, transfers value, and denominates value, without asking anyone’s permission to do it. If you can use it to buy things, save it, and send it to anyone on earth in minutes, what exactly is it not doing (better) that the dollar does? It is money, just money that doesn’t need a bank to exist.
-1
DirtyBurgerCommander Apr 17, 2026 +3
That's wildly simplistic and very childlike view of what money is.
3
dcduck Apr 17, 2026 +2
Works the other way too. State actors use it to avoid sanctions and hide transactions. It's a great way to fund proxies.

What you just described is how crypto was originally marketed to people. It was always a black market currency and the massive effort to normalize it as an investment was propaganda to increase its usefulness to the people that control it

Crypto is _way_ beyond just being a scam.

He can follow a scam but him saying Satoshi wrote to him and doesn’t like him made him sound like he has no idea what he’s talking about
-5
ElBeno77 Apr 17, 2026 +5
If I understood correctly, he said the guy that people are saying is satoshi hates him, not that he thinks that satoshi reached out to him. It’s that the guy that some article identified as satoshi is someone the he knows hates him already.

“Ben McCrybaby, was the worst Commissioner Gorton. He was terrible. So soft on crime in Gotham City. Gotham City has gone to hell! It’s a complete war zone. It’s a democrat city, a sanctuary city and it’s gone to hell. We’re going to be sending ICE in there real soon. Have you seen these drapes? I picked them out myself, like a big boy. They’re gold, and like any cartoon villain I love material things that are also very shiny. Shiny! Also, crypto - they call it crypto - we love crypto. Don’t we? We love it. It’s a real a legitimate source of money making and not at all a digital Ponzi scheme. My sons have done nothing wrong investing in crypto. Also, I know nothing about it. I’ve always preferred Superman over Batman. Such power. He’s like a nuclear bomb in a beautiful body. Superman is beautiful, isn’t he? We love Superman. We love him!” -Donald Trump, probably
