AI is out of control and the most irritating thing is you can't opt out. Google, Amazon, and Meta are all determined to shove AI in your face, even Microsoft. Microsoft used to be fun with Clippy. Now they throw Copilot in my face at work, and want to know if I want my work email summarized. It's like b****, do you think I can't read?

We have the Jurassic Park problem happening right now. Except the dinosaurs are in government and they cannot grasp how dangerous this tech is, and how easily it can get out of its box. Currently these things are just intelligent search engines. There is another step which once it happens it will be impossible to put the genie back into the bottle.

THAT is a GREAT analogy!

Over on the teachers sub they are struggling with ai. The Trump admin wants to force ai into schools which some support but many oppose

As a newly licensed educator i can say it has been a culture shock for a lot of senior teachers to deal with. Many have over relied on essays and term papers to be reflections of higher level learning on what is called blooms taxonomy. It basically provides evidence we can show to admin and parents our approach is getting students to think deeply about our subject areas without it being simple rote memorization. So the path forward seems to be based more on modern pedagogy (the art or theory of teaching) instead of those forms of assessments. This can be done via PBI's that are project based with checkpoints throughout the semester that demonstrate students are actively working and collaborating on an assessment as their understanding grows instead of force feeding an AI a prompt for a summary of an issue. It allows their fellow students to hold them accountable as they can notice AI slop better than many senior teachers and call each other out if they do not hold up their end of the group project.

It's incredibly naive to think they won't just be using AI for project based learning. Even working in a group they'll take whatever gives them the best grade with least work. Anything that they work on a computer to complete without supervision should be assumed to have ai used.

It's not perfect and I am not being naive about kids taking the path of least resistance. All I am saying is PBI's provide a mechanism to craft meaningful assessments that are not purely writing based which can be completely subverted by a AI. So the deliverable of the PBI should not be something like an essay or PowerPoint. Instead it can be a video that they script and act out, a "podcast" that they record tying subjects from their class to their lives as they interview one another, or a classic trifold poster board where they build connections between subjects and demonstrate how they inform one another. We want students even if they use AI to not be able to simply prompt & submit but still take the time and effort to interact with materials to promote learning.

I went shopping for a new washer and dryer and the LG ones had 'AI' banners plastered all over them.. AI is so hot right now that they calling things that have existed for years 'AI'. Including timers.

Go read about the DoEs project genesis.

On the flip side, I do not understand the dipshits who actuallt use AI regularly like they can't read or do anything themselves. People were upsetti spaghetti when ChatGPT got bad flak in the news because they needed their AI assistants *so* bad. It feels so dystopian. "But it makes me more productive!" No, bro, your work has started *sucking*.

Anybody else ever feel like we’re in the opening montage of a movie about the apocalypse?

**From Lorena O’Neil for Rolling Stone:** Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are announcing their support for two new AI bills aimed at putting a federal moratorium on the constructions of data centers. Sanders is introducing his bill, the AI Data Center Moratorium Act, on Wednesday. “AI and robotics are creating the most sweeping technological revolution in the history of humanity. Congress is way behind where it should be in understanding the nature of this revolution and its impacts,” Sanders says in a statement to Rolling Stone. “We cannot sit back and allow a handful of billionaire Big Tech oligarchs to make decisions that will reshape our economy, our democracy and the future of humanity. We need serious public debate and democratic oversight over this enormously consequential issue.” Read: [https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/bernie-sanders-aoc-bill-stop-ai-data-center-construction-1235536665/](https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/bernie-sanders-aoc-bill-stop-ai-data-center-construction-1235536665/)

> We need serious public debate and democratic oversight over this enormously consequential issue With a dysfunctional congress and pusillanimous media, that debate ain't happening. Nor any other substantive national debate. We'll be slinging memes at each other for the foreseeable future.

It's the 3D tech craze but so much worse, absolutely destroying the environment for something that isn't likely to be profitable but in very niche markets.

Unfortunately, the bill won't stop the US and Chinese military use of AI. I'd rather have anthropic doing it

They should run together. Bernie is probably the only one that can strip away the morons that voted for Trump. Then he can resign in two years and 1 day like Biden should have done in order to back-in the first female president. Then when she kicks ass like no other President in history, idiots that think women can’t run a country will have that tired argument taken away. Then we can legally have her for 10 years (minus one day) as President.

Can Utility providers refuse to hook up power for Data Centers?

Are there two bots posting the same comment in an anti AI post? Through the f****** looking glass

That’s an excellent idea but big money will crush it because unfortunately we as a species are too stupid to survive. We know what we’re doing is killing ourselves but we can’t seem to stop doing it no matter how many people scream stop at the top of their lungs.

Even the most "radical" voices are far too timid for this historical moment.

while i support the idea, that will get them absolutely wrecked by the billionaire class. all the knives will be out, even more so than now. that's one you wait until *after* you get power

I can understand it. When a new technology is displacing jobs, it's only a good thing if people have time to adapt, and AI isn't giving anyone that time. But also, even if WE slow down development, that doesn't mean everybody else will, so we'll just end up technologically behind. And there isn't enough money in the world to bribe China into giving up a technological advantage. I don't actually think there's a good answer here.

ItsAConspiracy Mar 25, 2026 +1
The answer is a treaty, starting out between the US and China. It's not like giant multi-gigawatt data centers can't be detected from space. Enforcement is just like cold war arms treaties, neither side defects because they don't want the other side to defect.

My town was just informed by our local electricity utility that the company that provides 75% of our electricity is pulling the plug because they have too much demand for data centers. We have until EO 2026 to find a new source. everything else about the bill seems great. the only issue is that Sanders and AOC don’t seem to understand that AI is just math, and that the genie is already out of the bottle.  > Sanders is calling for an immediate federal moratorium on AI data centers until national safeguards are in place to ensure that AI is safe and effective and won’t harm “health, privacy, civil rights and the future of humanity.” yeah, i don’t see how. there’s no way to ensure that people use all tech responsibly. piracy is illegal, but that’s never stopped anybody. anyone with a decent PC can run an LLM, SLM, or any of the ML algorithms that make them possible. it’s a nice sentiment, but it’s virtue signaling

Oh nooo I don’t understand what it is it must be bad! Clowns want to let every other country catch up in an insanely tight race to the next generation of technological dominance
