What really is the best game? for me it's RDR2 with it's graphics and details but I always wondered what people's favourites are what is y'all favorite game?
Falllout: New Vegas and Shadow of the Colossus are probably my joint favourite games.

I love Shadow of the Colossus, but that underwater colossi was such an annoying f****** battle. The swimming and horse mechanics were fucked.

RDR1 is perfect. Two is good, but it's too vast for me to enjoy as a man in my 40s.
But the first? It's wonderful.

It's funny, I'd consider RDR2 as possibly the best game ever made, but it's not even close to the game I've played the longest.
Off the top of my head, there's Balatro, Satisfactory, Conan Exiles, Grounded, OSRS and Elden Ring which have at least double the amount of hours played in all of them compared to RDR2.
Balatro is so simple, yet I have 200 hours+ in it. Point-and-click card game based on p**** with pixel-style graphics, and thats able to entertain me for longer than RDR2? It's left me confused a little, but its part of why I love gaming.

By hours played, the best games for me are Halo, Rocket League, and the various incarnations of Super Smash Bros. Counter Strikes as honorable mentions.
Personally, Lord of the Rings Online is is my favorite. Been playing for almost 20 years now.
Also The Unholy War on PSX was endless entertainment.

What content does LOTRO offer that’s kept you coming back for 20 years?

Outer Wilds for me. Went in completely blind and it ended up being one of the most memorable experiences I've had with any game. It's the kind of game where you can never play it for the first time again and that thought genuinely makes me a bit sad. If you liked Journey I think you'd really vibe with it.

Quake arena, Unreal, Warcraft II, counterstrike. I'm considerably older than most gamers (late 60s) but still play stuff like age of empires and a couple of others.

RDR2 is a pretty high benchmark for how good a game should be. It's incredibly deep. So much that it has its own sub regarding its various mysteries and lore (r/RDR2mysteries).
That being said, my favourite game is undoubtedly Witcher 3. I loved the gameplay, story and the characters. The locations were fantastic too, especially Skellige and Toussaint in the Blood & Wine DLC.
I just bought Baldur's Gate 3 in the recently concluded Steam sales. I heard plenty of good things about it. Can't wait to get started once I have the time!

Ultima 7: The Black Gate.
Best game... And if you look at the context of what else was coming out when that game did, it was revolutionary for its time.

My benchmark is how long I continue to enjoy the game after finishing the story. Here are my top 4 based on Steam reporting number of hours played:
1. Skyrim, 1165 hours
2. Fallout 4, 844 hours
3. AC Shadows, 754 hours
4. Starfield, 703 hours
What 3 of those have in common is mod support. Mods can keep a game fresh for a long time.
I have not played RDR2. Watching playthroughs made it seem too slow for my taste.

Story games: All chapters of METRO, however I played only 2033 and last light, but I'll undoubtedly like EXODUS (the last chapter).
About multiplayer games, it's Helldivers 2 (about 69 hours) and Deep rock galactic (about 45 hours)

Doom on PC. First released in 1993, even after all these years, it's still just as fun today and there's always new levels to play with a still very active fan mod community.

Destiny 2. Even if it hit some rough spots recently,\* it is still, to me, one of the most epic immersive and just minute-by-minute fun game to play. While I am not someone that plays only one game, I like some variety, it is really hard to beat Destiny 2 for
\- The quality of the combat - It isn't just great at first person shooting. The other weapons e.g. swords, the melees, grenades, etc. are so precise and deep. It is the most precise, fluent, aerial, game I've played.
\- The story - writing up there with better novels and movies. Including epic voice acting by well known actors.
\- The build crafting - This actually can be a turnoff for some, it is deep, like, people that really make their own builds consult a lot of community made spreadsheets. But the positive of that depth is that you can really play how you like. Imagine a super hero, scifi, or fantasy archetype and you can basically do it, with some leaning into guns being involved.
\- The world - it has a vast total number of planetary areas and missions at this point. And the quality, the interesting out of the way spots, lore, and collectables if you like that type of thing.
\*As a live service game (new content comes out every few months, plus weekly and seasonal stuff) it hit a bad spot late last year with some big updates, but they fixed most of it. It is in a bit of a content drought because the dev just did another game.

Chess
I spent tons of time playing video games of various genres for forty years then got into chess and it’s so good it’s been basically all I’ve played for five years now.
Great for short bursts of bullet games or puzzles. Great for hours at a time. Can involve study if one wants but isn’t needed much at all beyond basic principles.
Runners up:
Civilization series
Smash bros series
TF2, Overwatch

Don't have a favorite. There are WAY too many games that I love, to list a single favorite. All my other favorites would get jealous if I singled one of them out
