A couple nights ago, I was dreading a work dinner with a new client. He had chosen a cheesy restaurant that tourists love and that I would never consider if money wasn't on the table. Just before I reached the restaurant, he called and canceled with profuse apologies and I was suddenly very excited for dinner. I walked across the street to my favorite steakhouse and had a ribeye at the bar. It was fantastic.
getting canceled on and upgrading yourself to a solo ribeye is honestly a win not a loss. quiet bar seat, good steak, no small talk sounds like peak main character energy to me

You're honestly describing the perfect night, sounds weird to say but a solo dinner and no small talk makes me the happiest.

Once solo’d a ribeye and half rack of ribs at a texas roadhouse bar in Topeka, Kansas. The guys at the bar said it was “impressive”, and that they were “waiting to see if i’d finish it”. Never would have got that interaction if I wasn’t solo. Win it!

About 20 years ago, I was summoned for jury duty, and it wasn't cancelled the night before. So, I had to take the day off from college and go to a neighboring city for it. It was absolutely pouring rain that day, and I'm a wheelchair user who doesn't drive. I was soaked by the time I got to the courthouse, only to find that my jury duty was delayed for a couple hours. I went to a nearby Target to browse and pass some time, then went back. It was cancelled. So, I went through all that for nothing.
It was lunchtime by this point, so I decided to try a nearby diner that I'd been curious to try. The waiter who served me took one look at me, left, and came back with a cup of coffee. After that morning, that was probably the best coffee I've ever had. After browsing the menu, I chose a soup and sandwich combo. I honestly don't remember what either the soup or the sandwich were, but that, along with the coffee, was exactly what I needed that day. Plus, by the time I finished and paid, the rain was nearly over.

I totally get it. One cold rainy day in Portland Oregon, I stepped into a little Thai restaurant on N Killingsworth, was seated immediately and brought hot soup. It was amazing, best soup ever! Something wonderful about a cozy restaurant on a cold day with free hot soup!

That kind of meal just hits different not even about what you ate, just everything lining up after a rough morning. that coffee probably carried the whole day tbh ☕

I always go to kbbq with my friends (it’s our every few months lunch ritual) so I had never considered doing it alone. Genuinely sounds fantastic.

I was in Seattle for work and I went down to a restaurant in Pike Place Market. I had some salmon while looking over the sound and watching the ferries go back and forth. It was great just sitting there by myself having great fish and a great view.

Ribeye has to be one of my fave meals I've eaten alone. I get the grass fed prime ribeye, so amazingly tender. With a side of corn I made on the stove with butter. Yum
Close contender is a filet bc of how tender it is. But I love the fat from the ribeye. And thay grass fed prime can be just as tender!

I love a little French cafe. Get a glass of wine, a crispy salad, maybe a cup of soup, and dessert all to myself…lovely.

Probably not the best, but since I just made it it's fresh on my mind and in my belly.
My husband and daughter are out of town, so I made myself some creamy roasted red pepper soup, but added roaster jalapeños to it because I love anything spicy.
It is delicious and I can't wait to eat more

Same! It was so nice to think about what to make for dinner tonight and not have to decide if anyone else might like it. I miss them and can't wait for them to come home, but I'm going to enjoy a few days of cooking just for myself

hmm, sat at a tiny ramen place in Tokyo at like 10pm, dead tired after walking all day. Just me, a beer, and the best tonkotsu ramen I've ever had. No phone, no distractions. Just sat there slurping noodles and zoning out. Sounds sad maybe but it was genuinely perfect.

There have been so many, I can't pick a favourite. Daily travel was part of my first career, and I always loved having meals in hotel restaurants. Just me, my book, and some wine or Guiness. Good times, good times.

lunch at the "cafeteria" of a culinary school in my city, whenever other things take me out there. all the run-down population of that area eat there.
down market and basic af, but so peaceful. I love it. roast beef with gravy, potatoes, vegetables. nothing fancy. just cafeteria tables in a wide space at the back of one of those old stone buildings with big windows, view for miles of more old buildings, then water then mountains.

honestlyyy some of the best meals I’ve had were the ones I ate alone without planning to there’s something nice about not having to make conversation and just enjoying the food and the momentt I once ended up grabbing ramen by myself after plans fell through and it turned into one of the most relaxing nights I’d had in a while. no pressure no small talk just good foodd and a quiet break from everythingg

Once after I got a good workout in, I was craving something healthy which is not like me at all.
I got a pokebowl, with mango, cucumber, seaweed, tomato, advocado, orange, tofu, rice, crispy onions and chilli mayo. The beach was close by so I ate it there on a bench while having a crispy, cold Pepsi and listening to David Bowie.
It was an excellent meal as I felt very content and at peace. Also chilli mayo just hits the spot every time with rice 😋

I had a really bad root canal done and had to be on antibiotics for a few days which meant my husband went on a camping trip just with his friends. Our roommate was gone for the weekend. So I had the house to myself and it was just my 3 cats, my bowl of locally made Alfredo sauce and ravioli, Norco and Riff Trax. Aw yeah.
