Yeah, they prefer to keep their bigotry and racism on the down low.

They all took Lee Atwater to heart.

NotTomPettysGirl Mar 26, 2026 +136
Just before his death, in a February 1991 article for Life, Atwater wrote: “My illness helped me to see that what was missing in society is what was missing in me: a little heart, a lot of brotherhood. The 1980s were about acquiring – acquiring wealth, power, prestige. I know. I acquired more wealth, power, and prestige than most. But you can acquire all you want and still feel empty. What power wouldn't I trade for a little more time with my family? What price wouldn't I pay for an evening with friends? It took a deadly illness to put me eye to eye with that truth, but it is a truth that the country, caught up in its ruthless ambitions and moral decay, can learn on my dime. I don't know who will lead us through the '90s, but they must be made to speak to this spiritual vacuum at the heart of American society, this tumor of the soul.”

Yeah, he talked a good game towards the end. He made the religious rounds, met the right religious people, talked the good religious game. And then after he died, people found the very special Bible that he had been gifted during all of this and talked about finding solace in it. It was still in its original wrapping, untouched.

It's not like the religious keep it a secret. They just don't feel bound by it personally. It's really quite the racket if you can stomach the hypocrisy. Just point and yell "SINNER", and people will give you money. Weird thing.

Do they? Last I checked they happily elected open bigots to the congress and senate and the presidency.

palanark Mar 26, 2026 +16
They used to, anyway. Now they're pretty blatant about it, which makes this title more than a little confusing. They flaunt and parade their racism to appeal to fellow racist, pedophile idiots. I think they're more "on edge" that they somehow can't have their racism without the rest of the country telling them that it's wrong, maybe? I don't know. I refuse to do their level of mental gymnastics to try to make sense of their stupidity.

> Rep Steve King's "We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies" is OK.    Wow, that's unusually mask off for a politician. The fact that they're comfortable saying this shit is a bad sign about where we are at the moment
63
BimboDeeznuts Mar 26, 2026 +45
I don’t know where you’ve been, but this rhetoric has been around the south for so long it predates even my memory. It’s not even new as a political talking point? One of the oldest fear mongering tactics we’ve had since Jim Crowe
45
DeterminedThrowaway Mar 26, 2026 +14
Maybe I'm just naive, but I thought there was at least a brief period where saying something like that would be political suicide.
14
Bobambu Mar 26, 2026 +26
Nah. This country is racist to its core.
26
BUSY_EATING_ASS Mar 26, 2026 +14
To be fair Pat Buchanan spent almost the entire 90s saying this exact same shit to no effect whatsoever; one time notably getting literally zero votes during a poll. It really did used to be at least *somewhat bad* to *say* this shit publicly even if it was always there.
14
calmdownmyguy Mar 27, 2026 +10
That had more to do with Buchanan having no rizz than it did with people disagreeing with him.
10
ETxsubboy Mar 27, 2026 +7
Nah dude, there's parts of the country where saying shit like that will get you elected. The 14 words gets said a lot in rural areas when they feel comfortable. Sadly, most folks don't want to "cause a fuss" so the bigots aren't rooted out. You hear what a swell guy a judge is, right before finding out he has the white robes in the office closet.

It’s f****** wild to me that they say this and then go stand at a picket line outside an abortion clinic, and then go to church and claim they are Christians who are supposed to live a life where the goal is to love everybody. It’s just layer after layer of hypocrisy.
1
TheGreatDay Mar 26, 2026 +33
To them, there is a hierarchy, and when Fuentes says "Jews bad" that's hitting at a group that is higher up on the hierarchy in conservative minds. That's why it's a problem. Everyone else being a bigot to Muslims is totally fine because they are lower on the totem pole though, according to them.
33
LightsaberThrowAway Mar 27, 2026 +5
Hopefully not rude, but while I get your meaning I’d like to point out that a totem pole doesn’t actually reflect a hierarchy.

It’s bad. And the women are just as bad. Like, so I’m a Christian. Like, the kind of Christian who believes Trump is the antichrist (I have issues with Talarico’s doctrine, but I’d be okay with him as president). Met a woman on a Christian dating app. Some of the things I heard come out of her mouth are beyond repetition. Like, she literally wants a worldwide crusade, where the world is made Christian in the manner used by the conquistadors. I take exception to that. That’s not how the Bible reads.

Baileyesque Mar 26, 2026 +6
Was King the same one several years ago who was talking on TV about how much people of “European ancestry” had accomplished and it was much more than “people… from any other group”?

11
SirTabetha Mar 26, 2026 +21
Is it because Gen Z has had too many entertainment choices at their fingertips at younger ages, unlike the rest of us? We had what was on TV, and if you liked it, great. If you didn’t you found something else to do. I’m a Sesame Street kid, also watched a lot of Reading Rainbow & Mr. Rogers. The differences of people (and muppets) and how we live and work together was the point. What kid shows did the 20 somethings of today grow up with? Other than Bluey, which is a more recent thing, did Gen Z just get handed a raw, crappy deal of kid shows to teach them not just decency, but how to handle conflict in a thoughtful way? Also, parents. Clearly parents gotta be the gatekeepers of these things, and I can understand how much harder that is, unless you don’t give your kids a phone. I dunno. I think I’m now firmly in the “get off my lawn” point in my life. I’ll totally own up to it.
21
Baileyesque Mar 26, 2026 +26
Are you saying Mr. Beast and Mister Rogers are not a 1:1 analogue?
26
ScienceGiraffe Mar 26, 2026 +5
I'm also a Sesame street/Mr Rogers kid. I also watched all the Saturday morning cartoons, which were far more violent then today's kid shows. And if someone had cable, Nickelodeon had Ren & Stimpy. Go back farther and you get Looney Toons and Hanna Barbara, which weren't exactly known for kindness and decency and proper conflict resolution. And don't forget about the video games. Mario was family friendly, but others were not. While I agree that parents need to be gatekeepers, I'd say that parents are far more conscious of media then they were in my childhood. Generally, myself and my peers were left to our own devices. Parents were shamed for leaving kids to be brought up by TV and video games at the same time. In short, I don't think different kid's tv shows would have changed anything, nor do I think kid's TV is the cause of this.
5
PuzzledDeal6235 Mar 26, 2026 +11
\>Go back farther and you get Looney Toons and Hanna Barbara, which weren't exactly known for kindness and decency and proper conflict resolution. Yes, most of us knew its not good to hit someone over the head with a frying pan.
11
ScienceGiraffe Mar 26, 2026 +5
Sure, but they still weren't exactly teaching conflict resolution like Mr Rogers or kindness like Sesame street.
5
PuzzledDeal6235 Mar 27, 2026 +1
I think Captain Kangaroo and Shirly and Lambchop were holding that down.
1
LadyChatterteeth Mar 27, 2026 +1
I think the difference is that no one thought of cartoon and video game characters as cool, edgy, and worthy of emulation. Now, there’s an endless number of contrarians, racists, misogynists, and bigots who do everything in their power to make emerging generations think they’re some kind of alluring counterculture that’s a brotherhood of misfits who can become all-powerful if they band together. And they begin brainwashing kids at young ages. That’s nothing like we had growing up. Our misfits were punks in garage bands and geeks in computer clubs at school. The cartoon characters weren’t actually trying to brainwash us into being terrible people.

I honestly don’t even believe that… I work in a field that’s like 99% republican… they’re pretty pro bigotry..like they’re not going to burn a cross in your front yard.. but… they aren’t also going to shy away from most slurs. And if you… ya know act normal… you’re just “one of the good ones”

The libertarians who didnt nope out when he was leaning on private corporations and using the government to censor media? They aren’t actually libertarians just people who don’t wanna be called maga and just can’t stomach high gas prices
56
Rebal771 Mar 26, 2026 +19
Bingo! Libertarians saw the first term and either sat out of 2020 and 2024, or they plugged their nose and voted against the authoritarian. Between the tax cuts for the rich, the Covid checks, the criminal convictions, the impeachments, unilaterally closing the country down for 14 days, and his buddy-buddy system with the Saudis…the Libertarians knew he was the worst option of all of them. Trump also did nothing to reinforce any Libertarian values by appointing Kavanaugh. How any “Libertarian” could vote for him a 2nd or 3rd time is beyond explanation - there is not one single shred of evidence that he has done anything libertarian at all ever.
19
drethnudrib Mar 26, 2026 +18
Yeah, "libertarian" these days just means "MAGA but don't call me MAGA". Their principles always sucked, but now they aren't even standing by those. Bunch of feckless cucks, just like all conservatives.
18
PointedlyDull Mar 27, 2026 +3
Libertarianism as a whole is childish. And Trump doesn’t govern anywhere close to a libertarian
3
andyraylan Mar 26, 2026 +4
I agree. I don’t like to label or put people into a box because it’s usually not that simple. People tend to look at issues like immigration or the second amendment in a vacuum, and those issues are incredibly complex. People tend to critique public figures in a vacuum as well, especially when those public figures make a living on sharing an opinion on politics and current events. But people who have labeled themselves as libertarian? I often find they enjoy the label more than anything, and they don’t actually understand what it means. And it’s easy to distinguish one from the other when censoring media comes up, when they agree/disagree with it depending upon their own secretly held political beliefs. It’s a good litmus test, the censorship issue.
4
Baileyesque Mar 26, 2026 +7
My uncle is Libertarian patient zero, and ten years ago completely changed all his deepest core philosophies to become 100% unquestioning MAGA. Total personality change for America’s stupidest criminal.
7
halfcentaurhalfhorse Mar 26, 2026 +5
Is this person in favor of open borders (ie the free movement of labor)? That’s a key principle of libertarianism that most “Libertarians” don’t agree with. It’s just a label they use to distance themselves from MAGA while Still being 95% MAGA.
5
Hungry4Media Mar 26, 2026 +3
Pfft. They should have left when ice and border control came up
3
Randomwhitelady2 Mar 26, 2026 +5

Kicking a Nazi out as soon as they walk in *(transcribed from a series of tweets) - @iamragesparkle* I was at a shitty crustpunk bar once getting an after-work beer. One of those shitholes where the bartenders clearly hate you. So the bartender and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out." And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a paying customer." and the bartender reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed Anyway, I asked what that was about and the bartender was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all nazi shit. Iron crosses and stuff. You get to recognize them." And i was like, ohok and he continues. "you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too. And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a Nazi bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down. And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people." And then he went back to ignoring me. But I haven't forgotten that at all.
23
Upset-Government-856 Mar 26, 2026 +10
It isn't the bigotry they have a problem with, in fact they welcome it. It's the public bigotry they don't like.
10

They already WERE Nazis. They just don't like the younger version that is loud and public about it. F*** them all.
1
returnofthecursed Mar 26, 2026 +376
F*** that, the conservative movement has been festering with bigotry long before MAGA. They have been called out on exactly this problem countless times. They ignored all warnings and handwaved away all criticisms. They encouraged and excused it at every step on the way. Bigotry IS conservative policy and messaging. They have been saying "bigots belong with us, please vote for us!" for decades. It's one of their core constituencies. ICE is f****** recruiting using neo-Nazi slogans in their ads.

Remember when John McCain shut down racist remarks not once but twice at a Q&A session? https://youtu.be/JIjenjANqAk Not to make anybody feel old but that was almost 20 years ago. That crowd *wanted* a racist response, you can hear the shock and disapproval when he didn't deliver, and he lost that election. Sometimes I wonder if this was the moment that lost him the election too. McCain failed in connecting with the core constituency - racists.

I’ve brought up the Nazi flags being flown next to republican gatherings, typically at counter protests, to my father. All he ever did was shrug his shoulders and get angrier and tell me about what Sean Hannity said last night. I remember following him reading a fact check about that shit and all it did was make him angry. He’s a college graduate who raised me on history channel documentaries about the Nazi’s. All he ever did when I called him out was just get angrier. It’s a sunk-cost-fallacy at this point, these people will not hear that they are wrong for anything. They are literally incapable of accepting any responsibility for any politician they vote for. If history gives us any clues for the future these next two years in the US are going to be very, very, very rough for everyone not at the upper echelon of society. The worst part is that I’m still waiting for him to call me or my mom to tell me that he’s sorry and he never realised the criminal extent of his dear leader; but it’s just fake news and lies. “Can you believe they go after him like that,” there is not any type of free thought in MAGA. None at all, especially among the educated MAGA which, I know, is hard to believe there is any education at all but the ones digging their heels in are college educated I can guarantee that

Institutionalized bigotry has been the central plank of the gop platform since the Civil Rights. The promise of rebuilding the American apartheid state was at the core of the Southern Strategy that completely realigned American party politics.
20
NomadFH Mar 26, 2026 +23
Bigotry against Jews, specifically, bothers Republicans. This is because of how that translates to anti-israeli policy. Normal racism against blacks, hispanics, anyone vaguely arab, and just normal jewish people, has never been a concern of theirs and is openly endorsed.

Calcutec_1 Mar 26, 2026 +6

6
AdHopeful3801 Mar 26, 2026 +9
In the 2013 autopsy of Romney's loss to Obama, Karl Rove and the Growth and Opportunity Project suggested maybe it was time for the Republicans to stop embracing loud racism, and start reaching out to socially conservative minorities to expand their coalition. Three years later, the Republican Party nominated the loudest racist they could find this side of David Duke. And then won the Presidency. The party made its decision then, and anyone getting antsy about it now is just trying to get off the sinking ship of Trumpism.

When I was growing up in the 70s/80s, the so called "greatest generation" had racists on both sides of the aisle, but nowadays every time I encounter a brazen racist, they are a conservative without fail.

No it f****** doesn’t. Paywalled and I’m glad I cancelled my subscription this year. The actually-caring-about-facts public needs to stop accepting these sorts of narratives at face value. Even to the extent some random GOP operative goes on the record to express ‘concern’ and ‘reservations’, it’s not done in good-faith. Bigotry isn’t the special sauce on the GOP burger. It’s the whole damn burger. Donald Trump, a salesman, understood that. It baffles me that much of our public and even many liberals don’t accept this basic obvious truth about one of our two major political parties.

Drakkarim411 Mar 26, 2026 +5
What, is it too low for them?
5
Mr_Pigg Mar 26, 2026 +5
Imagine being an edgelord well in to your 20s
5
Crafty_Ish1973 Mar 26, 2026 +4
Republicans have raised entire generations of children on fire and brimstone evangelical Christianity, purity culture, Fox News propaganda, and talk radio and podcasts that were blatantly bigoted and now they want to pretend they've got a problem with it? OK. 🙄
4
Somethingsims Mar 26, 2026 +5
You mean their children?
5
DwarfPaladin84 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Bullshit, Republicans/MAGA/Conservatives/White Nationalist (that venn diagram is one circle) are totally fine with bigotry.... They are just pissed it's being shown in the open for social media to capture. Make no mistake on that. They are totally fine with Bigotry, Racism, Misogyny and Xenophobia.
3
nuckle Mar 26, 2026 +4
I still can't believe young dudes look up to that f****** dweeb Nick Fuentes.
4
Thorteris Mar 27, 2026 +5
Conservatives have been bigots the entirety of American history. They’re just going back to their pre civil rights era roots
5
AdRepresentative2766 Mar 27, 2026 +4
Lol, no it doesn’t
4
Jonas_VentureJr Mar 27, 2026 +1
That’s how they raised them, how is this surprising.
1
Stardustchaser Mar 27, 2026 +1
Wonder who they learned it from
1
PepeSylvia11 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Huh? Why would republicans be on edge for that? That’s part of their whole m.o.
1
JellyrollTX Mar 27, 2026 +1
“These young-in’s should have had better parenting!”, oh wait…
1
Square-Weight4148 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Republicans are worried that young Republicans are growing up to be...... wait for it...... Republicans.... cool story bro.
1
HandsomePistachio Mar 26, 2026 +7
Nah, they're very comfortable with bigotry behind closed doors. They just don't like how young conservatives missed the memo to keep it quiet.
7
Intel-Source Mar 26, 2026 +3
The whole damn country is full of bigots!
3
nasorrty346tfrgser Mar 26, 2026 +3
Many of them sincerely think that their behavior would get them a trad wife
3
CAM6913 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Closet elected racist bigoted Nazis don’t want the closet door opened because they need non white supremest votes to stay in power unless Trump and his goons fix the midterms in their favor again
3
jrsinhbca Mar 26, 2026 +3
They were raised on cable news, this should be expected.
3
DemandredG Mar 26, 2026 +3
They’re fine with it in older people, they just call them “judge”.
3
evhsrv Mar 26, 2026 +3
Young conservatives and their elders running the Republican Party are in agreement. The Trumpler Youth wing are just saying the quiet part out loud.
3
Emotional-Channel-42 Mar 26, 2026 +3
No it doesn’t. Anyone with a two digit IQ can see what the future of the GOP holds; Nazi podcasters running for office. And tens of millions of conservatives gleefully voting for them.
3
SmoothJazziz1 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Don't know why they are on edge; isn't bigotry a feature set of those in the Republican Party? Listen to Donald Trump, conservative politicians, right wing "pastors", Podcasters and the talking heads in some media outlets, and many others that have been denigrating, scapegoating and calling people names that are not white, Christian, and straight for literally near decades. They are against everything except guns, the bible and raising taxes - on the wealthy. The examples are endless, in your face and as real as it gets. They should be happy that young conservatives are following in their footsteps.
3
HellaTroi Mar 26, 2026 +4
The problem the old bigots have with young bigots is that they continually say the quiet part out loud.
4
HellaTroi Mar 26, 2026 +3
If you built it, they will come.
3
Hacker-Dave Mar 26, 2026 +3
Thats just the parting gift MAGA leaves behind. The GOP as we knew it is dead. As a nation these idiots have sent us back decades.
3
triscuitsrule Mar 26, 2026 +3
Oh no, it’s the consequences of their actions. Honestly, wtf did they think was going to come from elevating Americas Bigot-in-Chief to the white house?
3
ten_year_rebound Mar 26, 2026 +3
Well even Fuentes is turning on Trump now. I think that’s more the source of their concern.
3
Deep_Stick8786 Mar 26, 2026 +3
No it doesn’t
3
wha2les Mar 26, 2026 +3
idk why they are so concerned... what can be more Republican than bigotry?
3
The_Pandalorian Mar 27, 2026 +1
"Why are you saying all the stuff we believe *out loud*?!"
1
JesusWuta40oz Mar 27, 2026 +1
Lol no it doesn’t. They don't really care.

Bigotry among young conservatives has Republicans edging * FIXED.
1
BRUNO358 Mar 26, 2026 +2
They're younger, more impulsive and harder to rein in.
2
Fifth-Crusader Mar 26, 2026 +2
I'm afraid that bigotry is a problem at all generations of conservatism, not just the young.
2
BoomMcFuggins Mar 26, 2026 +2
Like papa, like son.
2
Vilehaust Mar 26, 2026 +2
Well, they're the ones who caused it.
2
conundri Mar 26, 2026 +2
Bigotry is baked into the bronze age immoral code of the Bible. Yahweh had a "chosen people". If you weren't in that group, you could be property and a slave for life. Women were also treated as property. And there was no age limit on sex with a minor. So hello Epstein files and Trump fully depreciated women.
2
WorldMean Mar 26, 2026 +2
Why? Isn’t this part of their plan? Turning Point America, Charlie Kirk, high school integration, isn’t that the whole idea- to make young people confidently bigoted?
2
Potential-Run-8391 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Lmfao these people have always been bigots. The same people who stood outside fighting desegregation joined the tea party movement in 2008
2
DawgPound919 Mar 26, 2026 +2
They.made.them.
2
Lilysils Mar 26, 2026 +2

2
Zulmoka531 Mar 26, 2026 +2
They’re protecting some of the biggest loudest, bigots, pedophiles and criminals on the planet and they are on “edge” becuase now the youth thinks thats ok?
2
Knighth77 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Why? Bigotry is one of the foundations of conservatism within the GOP.
2
_dxegrl Mar 26, 2026 +2
Lol like they aren't bigger bigots
2
colondollarcolon Mar 26, 2026 +2
The Republicans built this House of Racism. That Republicans are on edge is so ludicrous.
2
Phog_of_War Mar 26, 2026 +2
On edge for something you guys nurtured? Assholes....
2
futuriztic Mar 26, 2026 +2
They are edging to it

Bigotry among young Republicans has them in office.
2
Lassagna12 Mar 26, 2026 +2

2
ErusTenebre Mar 26, 2026 +2

2
coinwavey Mar 26, 2026 +2
Oh spare us... as if it's something new on the right.
2
Dexter_McThorpan Mar 26, 2026 +2
No it doesn't. Racists don't have a problem with racism.
2
ophaus Mar 26, 2026 +2
They are all saying various of the quiet parts out loud, young, old, whatever. The mask is off.
2
MxSharknado93 Mar 26, 2026 +2
"Our Nazis are getting too loud, people won't vote for us!"
2
JennJayBee Mar 26, 2026 +2
No, it doesn't. That's a feature, not a bug.
2
pocketjacks Mar 26, 2026 +2
The R word is back, and louder than ever.

2
roadsidefoto Mar 27, 2026 +2
"Republicans edging to young conservatives' bigotry" would be accurate and make far more sense.
2
ChrissWayne Mar 27, 2026 +2
I thought that was essential to become one
2
Prior_Success7011 Mar 27, 2026 +2
Without bigotry, the Republicans would go the way of the dodo
2
Gorlamei Mar 27, 2026 +2
I swear I read this article in 2016. Turned out they weren't so concerned after all.
2
crybannanna Mar 27, 2026 +2
Is “on edge” used here the same way “edging” is used? Because bigotry has been the marketing campaign of the GOP for decades now, and capturing young voters and turning them into bigots is like their wet dream.
2
GoldenboyFTW Mar 27, 2026 +2
Isn’t bigotry the Republicans entire gimmick? They love that stuff it doesn’t put them on edge lol
2
scrubjays Mar 27, 2026 +1
Bigotry among young conservatives is key to the brand.
1
CranberrySchnapps Mar 27, 2026 +1
Reminder that “young” is a *very* relative term in this context.
1
Garin999 Mar 27, 2026 +1
\*edging
1
Significant_Owl8496 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Oh, they’re edging about bigotry alright

Mary Shelly wrote a book about the monster you create...
1
Luckydog12 Mar 27, 2026 +1
That’s on you bruh. Propaganda works.
1
FangornLeghorn Mar 27, 2026 +1
That’s a feature of the GOP, not a bug.
1
daddy4sharx Mar 27, 2026 +1
Oh they're edging about it alright
1
OkMode3746 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Idk republicans dont really seem to have any dignity left so not quite sure what edge they are on. Unless they are considering becoming democrats.
1
needlestack Mar 27, 2026 +1
Let’s be clear - they’re not on edge because they have a problem with the bigotry, it’s because the young conservatives are so vocal about it it might cost them the election.
1
oldlumberman Mar 27, 2026 +1
No, it doesn’t. It’s what they voted for.And protecting rapists
1
SomeKindofTreeWizard Mar 27, 2026 +1
it has them so on edge that they're actively recruiting and promoting them... who writes this shit?
1
Sethmeisterg Mar 27, 2026 +1
And by on edge it means they're highly erect and close to climax.
1
ElysiumSprouts Mar 27, 2026 +1
